Song 2 by Blur was inspired by The Simpsons. That's why he says Woo-Hoo. No, really.

Aww yiss! Axe of the Blood God in the house!

I dead ass forgot there were any guest voices other than Murdoch and feel moderately bad about suggesting the antideath jingle gets cobwebs this week. Oops. I think I've only seen this episode once, the day it aired. Dolly is a national treasure and deserves a second jingle to protect her even more. I don't know about most stadiums but I delivered pyrotechnics to lambeau field (the packers. My Chicagoan ass felt unclean for a week) a few weeks back and they have those loading docks were on lockdown hard on a Wednesday morning. Why anything would be delivered anytime prior to Saturday is beyond me but if you can get in doing that, congrats?

As for Vincent price in Batman, I am pretty sure but not totally that Egghead was an original character for the 66 series. And Price himself insisted he play him. He was also big on artistry in film and the like, and intentionally stuck to low budget projects for love of the art. Explains why his two VA roles were for a damn near bankrupt Disney in great mouse detective and the absolutely financial bonkerfest Thief and the Cobbler

You guys asked the question I always wondered during your second Scully interview..I could've sworn that the Moe's scene when they talk about what teams were going to win was redubbed/recorded for syndication after the original airing. It's been bugging me ever since I saw the rerun.

Patrick McClafferty

Ah yes. I remember the judge, Seamus Mccaffey, doing that at the Vet for years. He eventually became a PA supreme court justice then resigned in shame in 2014 due to corruption claims involving pornography and illicit legal fees for his wife.

If I can add to Kat's pedantry, the book A Game of Thrones came out in August 1996. It's entirely possible that a fantasy nerd on the staff threw in the "Winter is coming" line as an oblique reference :)

The post office part always triggers a memory of an educational video with John Ratzenberger explaining 9 digit zip codes that I watched in a High School typing class for me.

RE: Rupert Murdoch - Celebrate when he dies, mourn the fact that he lived to old age.

I thought of a couple weird things tangentially related to this episode. First, the half time show. The reason the NFL started putting effort into it was due to another part of the early 90s Fox lineup: In Living Color. The halftime show had sucked for years, and everyone knew it. No one really competed against it though because counter programming a live event is hard. It's a bit easier for a sketch comedy show though, so In Living Color gave it a shot. They ran ads telling people to come watch them at halftime instead for a special (mostly) live episode. 29 million people did. And because the game was kind of boring that year, a lot of them didn't switch back. Given the crazy asking prices for Super Bowl ad slots, the NFL and networks couldn't risk losing that much of its audience again. The next year they pulled out all the stops and brought out Michael Jackson, people stayed, and they've been making (or trying to make) big spectacle halftime shows ever since. The whole In Living Color special is up on YouTube if you want to check it out. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8EY-7OuP8uE

Re: sneaking into games. A Dallas radio broadcaster was arrested in 1997 for trespassing at Lambeau Field a few days before a regular season game against the Cowboys. On a trip to Green Bay while working for the afternoon drive show, Gordon Keith called into the show with a cell phone while walking around outside the stadium. He talked his way past security while live on the radio twice and eventually got onto the field where he started yelling obscure references to old Cowboys/Packers feuds. A Packers fan in Dallas called the stadium and they sent folks to apprehend him, which also happened live on the air. It was pretty wild (you can find the audio online), but Kat and Henry are absolutely right about people being able to just walk into places.

If Moe was one of the Little Rascals, he would be 40 or so when the Atlanta Falcons was created. There's no way he could've liked them as a kid. This show's continuity is full of holes!

The Oakland Roots look neat but they play in the NISL not the MLS. It's a new league where teams play in high school stadiums.

Kat is always such a great guest on your show!

Also. Its becoming increasingly clear going through it that season 10's not all that bad. Definitely pretty lesser but not outright embarassing. We are lurching ever closer to Kid Rock, though...

I came for Bob's reaction to the dirty bird. I left satisfied. Also, according to IMDB, Paul Anka also appeared in Kojak.

My wife is a travel agent and my understanding is the business has changed a lot. She books a lot of trips for Disney, Universal, and cruises and the way the system works now is whoever is going on the trip and thus booking through her pays her nothing. It's Disney, Universal, and the cruise lines that actually pay her a commission on the trip so my wife's job is more like a courtesy position for people who don't want to do the booking themselves. And since they just pay her on commission, it's a way for them to skirt payroll taxes and benefits by just paying an independent contractor rather than create a position at their company to do this sort of thing. I suppose one could make a living off of it, but my wife chose to be a stay-at-home mom when our second child arrived and this is just something she can do from the house and make a little income on the side. And she's a Disney nut so she likes the little Disney perks she gets as a result and genuinely enjoys booking trips there. I am not a Falcons fan, but my understanding is the Dirty Birds nickname is just a reference to the team's logo which is a falcon that's depicted in all black, i.e. a dirty falcon. I could be mistaken though.

Crazy story! But for some reason I remember I stopped watching this episode after the commercial break. So in my mind this episode ends with them kicking Homer in the groin and them going back home to Springfield. So when I hear you all talking about them getting busted out by Dolly Parton and talking to Bill Clinton I just kinda stop and go "What really? That happened?" which is weird for me to have completely removed the second half from my mind.

Richard Green

Hey guys, A Game of Thrones came out 2 years before this episode aired. Homer didn't invent "Winter is coming"...

Dayken

Regarding the MTV Butt Bowl, I THINK think at this point they had aired a Celebrity Deathmatch special instead.

Eve of the Stars

This episode features one of the most enduring jokes of the series for me: Lenny's bizarre noises over the phone when Homer is begging him to go to the Super Bowl. Lenny and Carl really shined in the Scully years, I feel.

Dylan (batmanboy11) Freitag

Awesome to have another appearance by Kat. -- While making the self-aware jokes about how the plot is hokey and the Marge/Lisa storyline went nowhere is a bit of a yikes, I still think this episode is really fun, and that B-plot is worth it for the Vincent Price impression alone.

Christ. Between the Raiders and the Warriors hate, I know you guys don't like sports, but maybe you should keep it quiet if you don't know what you are talking about

Anonymous

What are you talking about? I was actually nice to the Raiders in this podcast lol

Reducer191

Not you Kat, I was referring to those DWEEBS who don't know the difference between an option pass and a pick-and-roll. Any hate you issue out on sports teams is legitimate. (love you bob and henry)
