Talking Futurama is back, baby! You voted (and paid) for it, so we're proud to present the first of ten new Talking Futurama episodes! Our second season premiere brings a truly disgusting story of toilets, emotions, and legendary sub-sewer monsters that's all fueled by Bender learning how to feel empathy by being forced to feel empathy. All this, and also terrifying tales of how poorly Fox mistreated Futurama at the end of the millennium! Find your podcast-listening sombrero and get ready for our second miniseries of 2019!

I almost screamed at work when I saw this!

Best Halloween present ever.

To add to the stories of TV we like being rejected, at the end of high school when I was with my first girlfriend (she finally ended up dumping me soon after this), she was like yeah why don't we watch an episode of that thing you've been wanting to show me. So I was like cool, let's do Futurama! And then she took out some forms for something and was filling them out the whole time, never once looking at the screen. I tried to be like we can watch something else or do something else and she was like "I'm listening yeah". Oh well. Pretty awkward experience.

god, I forgot how GOOD this show was

Great show, guys. So glad Talking Futurama's "back, baby!" That TV rejection story was way too relatable. You feel a sense of deep, personal responsibility for whether or not a show will let you down when you suggest what to watch amongst friends. For example, when I started university, I turned the channel to find Malcolm In The Middle about to start. Luckily, one of my flatmates was also a fan, but no-one else had ever heard of it. None the less, I was certain everyone would enjoy it and proudly proclaimed "It's great! You'll love it!" However, what followed was a very painfully average episode from one of the later seasons which got zero laughs from anyone, myself included. Afterwards, my fello fan and I apologised to the room. "It's normally way better than this" we moaned. You let me down, Malcolm. >_<

(The Vin Diesel defender has logged on) He never claimed to play DnD currently -- he said he USED to be heavily into it a long time ago, but hasn't found the time to get into any of the new editions. Any nerd around our age and older should be able to sympathise. It's hard enough to find time to play video games by yourself -- DnD is a huge time commitment that requires the cooperation of multiple people all at the same time. #ImWithVin #VinIsNotAFraud #TheToothFairy

Ah, I'm so glad Futurama is back! The choices for this mini series were good, but this show is just so good. It works too well in this format that it's hard to choose anything else. I look forward to revisiting season two over the next nine weeks. If you need a guest or are looking for interview subjects, writer Eric Rogers is really approachable on Twitter and very active. I bet he would be an easy get for you guys should you want to give it a try.

The 'it was inside you all along!' discussion reminded me of Last Tap Dance in Springfield, where Homer subverts the joke in the same way by undercutting Frink. I can also report that the term inverted commas has fallen out of use in the UK in favour of speech marks. Full stops are a line we won't cross, though - period.

Part of me kinda wishes you guys put "What A Cartoon!" on hold in favour of just going through ALL of Futurama... but I get it. Great to see this series return!

I am so happy to see the return of Futurama on this here Patreon! Great first episode back, gang. -- I love how much this episode screws around with hoaky sitcom stuff, as you guys discussed, like having the sewer monster be separate from Nibbler rather than a convenient way of solving two problems, and the misfire of Farnsworth saying Bender's chip was off before declaring it was actually on overdrive. -- As someone who doesn't care for the Comedy Central seasons, I wonder if the show could have maintained quality a little longer if Fox hadn't swapped it around so much and screwed it over... Say what you will about Family Guy (and I'm not a 'fan' of it), but it definitely got BETTER when it came back, and I don't think anyone would argue that was the case for Futurama.

I feel Bob's pain about showing the episode and being the only person laughing. I've been in that position before, even offering to watch something else when I realized they were not a fan. I think to a certain group of people cartoons are kid's stuff, even in our generation. I remember someone was baffled to see I owned The Lion King (animated version, of course) on DVD. Having said that, maybe this isn't the best episode to show to a skeptic. The characters spend a lot of time in the sewers with mutants and there are numerous toilet jokes. The plopping sound in particular could be bad. Maybe something like "A Flight to Remember" or "Fear of a Bot Planet" would've played better.

Kudos on the research done regarding Data's emotion chip but wanted to point out that the new Picard series will be on Amazon Prime, not CBS All Access. Don't ask me how or why CBS would allow easily one of the most anticipated new Star Trek shows featuring the return of one its most beloved characters to be shown on another streaming service, when everyone is already joking about how nobody wants CBS All Access. I'd read that they're strategy was to be the all-star trek all-the-time and to have multiple Trek shows running at all times but that only means they're assured of American Trekkies signing up, as everywhere outside the US, such as New Zealand where I live, gets the new Star Trek shows like Discovery on Netflix. It may have something to do with Paramount owning the rights to the Trek movies while CBS maintains the rights to the TV series which has caused no small amount of uproar to pedants like myself about the discontinuity between the films and the series. JJ Abrams movies were legally obligated to redesign the Enterprise from the series to avoid infringing rights. Live long and please keep Quentin Tarantino away from Star Trek.

Depends on the region. Star Trek: Disco was on Netflix in the UK, for example. CBS All Access being exclusive for Picard is a US Region thing. So depending on where you live, the show being on Amazon Prime or Netflix is perfectly cromulent
