When Bob said she was doing it for America, eating those steaks, I choked laughing so hard. It caught me off guard.

You dare speak the name of WCO in the open for all execs to see? For shame.

The train full of napalm is so close to a Wages of Fear/Sorceror joke that I wish they'd just gone for it.

Great episode as always! -- I'm glad you guys touched upon how backwards this episode was with its approach to self-driving vehicles. They are probably gonna be a huge issue for actually taking jobs away from people, and like Tucker Carlson or whatever Fox news white guy was brought up is already doing, this will be mobilized as a way to make it seem like they care about the poor, OR it'll be ignored since it's an actual thing that can harm white people but is done by corporations that pay off the right wing, so it'll continue to be the scapegoating of immigrants. Sigh.

Hearing about restaurant eating challenges now makes me think of the Final Fantasy 14 KFC challenge in China. Look it up if you don’t know, it is a crazy challenge just to get a special item that stores in others countries gave out no problem

Luke is a good guest.

Frank Grimes

so how is everyone enjoying our Disney Overlords' Simpsons on D+?

Andrew Bouvier

I haven't finished listening yet, so maybe you mentioned it, but the general plot outline of this episode is very similar to Sunday, Cruddy Sunday. Homer and Bart go on a roadtrip, while Marge and Lisa have a relatively lackluster B plot that ends in disappointment for them (by missing feet, or in this case, malfunctioning doorbell.) Though I will say I prefer the Senor Ding-dong B plot to Vincent Price's Egg Craft.

Another Simpsons ep I don't particularly like. There's some good lines, like every Schwartzwelder episode, but the pacing feels rushed, and Homer is just irredeemably horrible as the new normal by this season. Also like Bob, I'm pescatarian, but I was still consistently asked if I ate at Big Tex when I tell people I briefly lived in Amarillo. Like, it's way of the way and is very obviously a tourist trap?

I was shocked by when Marge said "damn it" in indignant rage

The discussion of food defamation laws and the famous Oprah case makes me think of the great King of the Hill episode Love Hurts and So Does Art. It uses the Texas law as its deus ex machina, and given the timing I assume is in reference to the Oprah case.

Oh boy, the trucking episode. Now it's Boomers time to shine! A lot of expediters, myself included, absolutely just use family members for a home address because why bother paying for housing when you live out of the vehicle. So "living with parents until old age" is unsurprising. My grandfather, also a trucker, also uses my moms address. And most truckers generally don't retire, as it really is a tough industry to get out of. Big rig stuff often is a six figure job. So unsurprisingly, big expediting is chomping at the bit to cut out those costly middlemen and automated driving is a huge threat to the industry, and will probably destroy tens if not several hundred thousand jobs in the next few years. And I'm really not surprised garbage people like Carlson are speaking up for truckers. It is a very white, VERY nationalist industry of oftentimes misanthropes who take this job as much for seeing the country that they blindly love and just as often for it's insularity in that people don't put your beliefs in check when you are in a truck most waking hours. But they do have a shitton of disposable income (I use mine on artists). It's a well paying job for societal pariahs who are up for the task until automation runs them all from the roads to the streets. So Fox news would absolutely pander to them, while little Benny once again comes up short on knowing the clout truckers possess in right wing circles. Note: I'm in this industry because a year and a half ago i essentially ghosted my Amazon job but it's really hard to secure job interviews when you drive hundreds of miles on a random direction every day. I'll still take the occasional... frequent right wing scrawlings on bathroom stalls over Karen's in retail any day. Anyway I do wonder how Homer got that lockjaw in the first scene after presumably getting a tetanus shot in season three. I hope someone got fired for that blunder.

I had to do a quick YouTube search to verify it since the music under The Green Grocer sounded very familar. You pulled the WPVI (6ABC) ad of The Green Grocer. I had to do a double take since I recognized "Philadelphia's Unofficial Anthem" Move Closer to Your World which has been the theme song to Action News since the 1970s. This theme has remained the same without modernizing other than a failed 1996 attempt that made the viewers so angry that it only lasted under a week. Yes, there was a time where I thought Springfield was in PA since Kent Brockman's Action News is also on Channel 6 but then I realize Action News is a generic name for news broadcasts that any affiliate can use. I remember nothing about the Green Grocer since this was before I was born/was an infant. Looking at the comments of that video, people actually thought Joe Carcione was from South Philly so that led me to do some more research. Here is the short of it. He owned and operated a produce import/export business in South San Francisco at the Golden Gate Produce Terminal II. The reports were broadcast on location from the Golden Gate Produce Terminal. The reports were syndicated throughout the US and Canada. He died on August 2nd, 1988 from intestinal cancer.

Homer ordering meatballs to drink reminds of Kowalski from Ren & Stimpy ordering meat to drink.

when you get to the movie it should just be your WAC movie for the month.

Dan Vincent

Funny hearing the name "Mr. Food" brought up because he was based out of my local CBS station. Art Ginsburg (AKA Mr. Food) was a Troy, New York native and a highly regarded chef and caterer before he made his first TV appearance in the late seventies. His segments were produced out of WRGB Channel 6 in Schenectady, the CBS affiliate for Albany and the Capital Region. I always thought of him as one of the last round of locally-produced TV that could still make it into a mainstream, national audience. He was very much an Upstate New York guy who I'm sure could steam a fine ham.

It's hard to imagine automation fully taking away the livelihoods of truckers without major infrastructure changes, something governments are loathe to spend money on as it is. It seems like the inevitable fight will be with producers trying to negotiate lower wages and benefits with unions as automation allows them to basically do what Homer did here on those long stretches of road where little input is needed. Then again, I could be influenced by my location around Boston, a city which wasn't really designed with cars in mind let alone with trucks. Whenever I see one trying to negotiate these cramped quarters I get anxiety on their behalf.

I think the fat judges are there to make sure that there’s not lots of edible steak meat still on the fat. Like leftover chicken on wings. The idea is to have all the meat eaten.

Also I always thought the beef poisoning thing wasn’t cause the beef was poison but because he had to much of it in one sitting. Like alcohol poisoning isn’t from one poison drink but from having to much. I’m sure homer had had alcohol poison many many times throughout the seasons.

Jarrod Hornbeck

It’s actually artichokes in the truck with the migrant workers, not avocados. I’m not sure why, but for some reason that strikes me as being so much funnier. I have no idea why. BUT I will say that this was a big contribution I made to my Simpsons trivia team on a ‘name two’ question, which was “when Homer was a trucker, what two things were his truck carrying?” Very proud moment.

If you guys are struggling to find digital copies in their original format, let me know and I can pass along my DVD rips. They're x265 (high quality and very small), so each season comes out to ~3gb.

Molly Schuyler (pronounced "skyler" I think -- the woman who completed the Big Texan challenge 3x), just 3 days ago, posted a video of her doing a "Homer Simpson challenge" -- consuming 12 lbs of sugar, inspired by the time Homer ate a 10-lb sack of flour ( though I was hoping it was inspired by the sugar episode...) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jFm5Xr9H1HE

Henry’s bias against a Fox News guy is making him believe false info. I have been a trucker for years and have seen way more minority truckers than white ones. I myself am Mexican and the days of the old fat white guy have long been over. A large number of truckers now are black, Latino, and Indian.

I have been a professional driver for almost twelve years. I started out OTR (Over The Road) like most people do but now have a local job for the last nine. I certainly dont miss the loneliness of being away from home or the bad weather, especially the night I picked up a load in Youngstown, OH and drove overnight in a blizzard to make my delivery window in Rochester the next morning (pep pills may or may not have been used). In a bit of art imitating life regarding The Slaughterhouse I was in TX once and saw a combination steakhouse and cattle auction. No word on whether or not they kill it at the table.
