Requested by premium subscriber ShyRanger, this week we return to Yu-Gi-Oh! for another duel, this time in a cyberpunk future with special guest LittleKuriboh! We chat about how YGO's arrived in a dystopian third series, try our best to understand the timeline and synchro summons, and we go deep into the show's debut episode, "On Your Mark, Get Set, Duel!" So let's rev it up and listen now!

Great podcast. This is the last Yu-Gi-Oh series I watched, because I just couldn't get into Zexal. Speaking of which, 4Kids did dub the first 26 episodes of Zexal, then they lost the Yu-Gi-Oh dubbing rights to Konami. The reason why 4Kids skipped a lot of episodes in 5D's was because they wanted to get a dub of Zexal out by the Fall season to promote the new cards, the same thing happened to the end of Yu-Gi-Oh GX, where 4Kids didn't dub the fourth season just so they could get the 5D's dub out quickly.

I was one of those people who wrote off 5Ds because a motorcycle seemed like the absolute least practical place to play a card game, but once I decided to revisit classic Yu Gi Oh, I reexamined that idea and realized that anything short of a regular ass table is impractical, so why not elevate to the absurd? Once I got over that mental roadblock, I gave it a shot and can safely say that Yusei may be my favorite YGO protagonist.

Great episode, you guys were great, Martin was great, just great. However there is one point that, if Henry and Bob are reading this question later, I would like their brief opinions on. How do you guys feel about so many shonen anime having most if not all their villains being redeemed. Using this show as an example, Henry mentioned Tetsu the corrupt cop does become a good guy. Do you think that is a good message for inspiring that awful people CAN be turned to good, or do you think that is a negative wishy washy message imply "see this corrupt cop wasn't bad after all." Redemption in escapism is something I've been struggling with myself, especially in today's times.

I am one of those who don't know how to play the game in any incarnation. But it's still fun to watch.
