Hello again, Talking Simpsons Network supporters! It's time again to help us choose a film, based on our new schedule (listen to our most recent Talk To The Audience?!?! episode for some more details). As we did with our July poll for The Black Cauldron, the subject of our $10 premium podcast will be decided a few weeks earlier than we've done in the past.

Currently, we're so far ahead in podcast recordings at the moment that we actually have the time in July to not only record July's What A Cartoon Movie! (The Black Cauldron), but also to fit in the recording of our August podcast, so the sooner you help us choose it, the sooner we can record it!

If you're new here, you should know that once a month we release the What A Cartoon Movie! podcast, an extra-long discussion about an animated film, exclusively for our $10 Patreon subscribers. And when we open up the voting for each month's subject, we want all the $5 subscribers to also have a chance to be heard, so those subscribers can help pick episodes they might enjoy down the line!

What will you pick for the August 2020 movie? This month we're going back to the '90s anime films of our youths, covering films that defined Japanese animation for that decade!

Your four '90s anime choices are:

Dragon Ball Z: Broly – The Legendary Super Saiyan (1994), the most beloved of the original DBZ films, which introduced the world to perhaps the greatest fanfic character ever, Broly!

Ghost in the Shell (1995), one of the most influential films of the decade, this comic book adaptation brought cyberpunk animation to new heights!

Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz (1998), we covered the TV series, so let's wrap up the tale with the gorgeous feathers of these lovely mechs!

The End of Evangelion (1997), the incredibly complex and challenging finale to the hit series, and we'll easily need four hours to deconstruct it all!

So please, make your voices heard before the poll closes on the night of July 8! Thanks as always for your amazing support, and know that we're really looking forward to recording August's podcast ASAP!

MENDOZABLE

DBZ Movie 8 was the first DBZ film that felt like a movie to me as a kid and not just a long episode, maybe cuz the Nu Metal and action scenes blew my mind at the time but it felt like the Z fighters were in a huge pickle , but yes it doesn’t hold up and OG Broly is incredibly Dumb.

I'd love another Evangelion podcast, but since Ghost in the Shell seems to be in the lead so far, I'll throw my hat in for that as an excuse to watch it for the first time

Boomer Spacely

Bold of you to even suggested End of Evengaleon in 2020

Frank Grimes

Ghost in the Shell, as it's the only one on the list I've seen

nina matsumoto

I've always disliked Ghost in the Shell (fantastic soundtrack though), but I'm voting for it because it's the only one I've seen

KaiserBeamz

Yeah, it's high time you guys delve into Oshii's oeuvre.

Tyler The Destroyer

Shit I was sure Broly would be the highest Eva is mine of course But Ghost in the Shell is my secret hope! So it’s a win win

Alex Irish

We ain’t afraid of no ghosts in the shell

P.B. and Shelly

Ay I really wanna vote for Endless Waltz but I don't think there's enough interest in it other than myself 😅 Ghost In The Shell it is then!

littleterr0r

Such a tough choice between Gundam Wing (which I just saw) and Evangelion, but I went with Evangelion because Evangelion.

Gabe

As much as I love DBZ, I gotta go with End of Eva. Even with limited research, there's so much drama surrounding it, would love to hear a more in-depth analysis from you two!

Curtis Bostick

I'm glad that DBZ isn't winning. It isn't that I don't enjoy it or that it isn't a good movie. It's just that I'd rather not make them have to talk about Vic Mingona.

Rei Hernandez

I guess none of the DBZ movies are actually *good* but did you have to choose Broly? This smells rigged! (Yes, I know you rig these all the time)

Marcel Turenne

I couldn’t decide between EoE and GITS so I’m glad that it looks like one or the other will win

TruckNuttz 420

These are all great anime selections... by any chance have you guys ever thought of Tatami Galaxy, or perhaps the new series Cells At Work? Maybe I am in the minority, but these are both really cool anime series and I feel like they are kind of unique. (Or maybe I missed someone else suggesting?) Thanks for all you do Bob and Henry!

Kiefer Fulsom

I'm surprised Perfect Blue isn't on here. That being said, I've had Ghost in the Shell for years but have yet to watch in

Richard

Am I the only person who never thought Ghost in the Shell is good? It’s visually stunning, but not a good movie. It’s been a long time so may be it merits a revisit.

thatcamjones

GITS has aged really well, depending on the version. Original theatrical cut holds up *great*, but the 1.5 cgi remix version hasn’t been as lucky.

thatcamjones

It’s certainly some 2012-ass cgi Rob. (Obligatory; “Jurassic Park came out in 1993”, not all old cgi is bad, etc)

James Babbo

Evangelion definitely......so you can explain it to me. :D

lego69lego

evangelion, maybe you can explain the choices they made and what they mean. if not i look forward to a bunch of good natured mockery.

austin jeffers

Its a shame EOE isn't ahead but I love GITS. The only thing that stands out for me is that ive found a lot of great critical analysis of GITS from film channels with huge pull like Nerdwriter I was hoping that an outlet that I feel grabs onto the stuff that matters to my eyes and heart would do that for EOE. EOE is covered a lot but it can be mired in fandom and that tends to kill the analysis for me. either way, im a new patron and ive never felt more worthy of a purchase. I own a pool service company in Las Vegas so podcasts and audio books are my mental fall net, so my consumption is vast! WAC! and WACM! are amazing and make me feel a lot lighter in the heavy air of the modern age, Thank you so much for keeping me on track mentally as I clean pools in 120 degree heat with a virus always looming over my head. You two are the best!

Kat Heagberg

I too am going Ghost in the Shell because it’s the only one I’ve seen!

Jon

How is End of Eva not leading the way here
