This week Conor Lastowka from Rifftrax and the 372 Pages We'll Never Get Back podcast returns for a biblical experience of a podcast! As Homer runs afoul of PBS and Betty White, he heads to a stereotypical island in the South Pacific to not NOT lick toads. So stay tuned for his adventures... or should we say misadventures? Listen now or Jebus will punish you!

I'll start this with a positive, which is that I LOVE Homer licking the toad, and it makes a fantastic gif. But beyond that... fuck this episode. The ending is just the epitome of a lazy "fuck you" to the audience joke that just falls flat completely and reeks so much more of being stuck in the plot and not knowing what to do then trying to be funny or subversive. I know other people have disliked things like "let's say... Moe" and the ending to 30 Minutes Over Tokyo, but MY GOD is this one so much worse than either (I like the former one, even). Also, this episode is... probably the most racist the show had been up to this point? Just an all around yikes from me.

So another super great episode. Who could not love Homer yelling JEBUS. I think the line that resonated me with a kid was GO TO CHURCH TO AVOID HELL? EVERY SUNDAY FOR THE REST OF OUR LIVES.

Bad news related to Are You Being Served: It seems that all of the main cast members from when it premiered in 1972 are dead. Yes, even Wendy Richard, the youngest of the initial main cast.

This ep might be my favorite of s11. Some good moments, and the PBS stuff always made me laugh

Oh man this episode took me back. So as I’ve said before I’m a little younger than you guys so I was still pretty young when this episode aired. Some quick background: My family had been Roman catholic and then Lutheran (tho I’m not religious now, I guess you could call me an agnostic lay pan theist) so when I was very young I didn’t really think too much about god possibly not existing. This is the first time I can remember hearing someone, fictional or real explicitly state “but I don’t even believe in Jeebus”. Honestly, despite the family (the Simpsons) being regular church goers, the Simpsons is probably what planted the first seeds of doubt and free thinker tendacies in my head. Even tho it’s also probably a source of my ocd and panic disorders, so much of my core comes from the Simpsons even this late into the series, and I think the Simpsons is one of the reasons for my persistent doubt, critical default world towards authority, and with futurama is probably why I ended up being a scientist by trade. As far as jeebus goes, I like it. I used it a lot but not to be a dick, but usually as means to distinguish between Jesus as person or concept and jeebus as the son of a space wizard, when having conversations about religion. I think it’s good short hand taking religion or lack there of too seriously.

Also, The Unitarian jokes will continue too. In s16e20 “the father, son, and the holy guest star” homer and Bart convert to Catholicism. Homer asks the priest what he needs to do to be catholic saying “what do I need to? Wail on some Unitarians?” While violently smacking his fists

As a Simpsons fan who was never much online I have to say I am continuously surprised by how many people were really put off by Maude's death. It's something that absolutely was never on my mind watching the show unless an episode was about it. On PBS they were my resource for Red Dwarf so I will always love that Saturday night lineup. But the older I get the more I can't stop thinking about certain episodes of Keeping Up Appearances. God I love that show.

Speaking to the balancing act on the Fast and Furious franchise, Vin Diesel apparently has a spreadsheet where he tracks who has won against whom in onscreen fights to ensure it is all kept even.

Not sure if "Jebus" shows up in the Bible, but "Jebusite" does. I was reading E.O. James's "The Ancient Gods," and took a photo of a passage mentioning Jebus to a fellow Simpsons nerd. "Jebus" is apparently a disputed name for Canaanite Jerusalem. That all said, I remember not finding the "Jebus" joke particularly funny way back when.

My local PBS here in the Bay Area introduced me to Robotech. Every Sunday. Also saw Mr. Bean too

I do not like Family Guy, but I place no blame on MacFarlane or any of the people associated with Family Guy for Simpson Guy being an abomination. Well, I do blame them, but I hold no malicious feelings towards them as it's like handing a baby a fragile piece of pottery and then getting mad at that baby when it inevitably smashes it. I blame the folks who greenlit it on The Simpsons side (Groening, Brooks, and Jean mainly). The Simpsons is not what it used to be, but it's still an important brand that deserves protection. If you hand that brand over to another team that has demonstrated it is only capable of Family Guy then you get what you deserve. And yeah, this episode sucks. I have nothing to add on it so I'll be just as lazy with my criticism towards it as this episode was towards its plot.

I’ve always been fond of this one, but it is just kind of a grab bag of jokes. I always think of Canada’s Red Green in relation to PBS pledge drives because I tuned in multiple times when he was on.

This episode like so many others really does feel like they're in their "Okay Fox is gonna cancel us at any moment" phase. Just doing any bullshit they want and expecting the hammer to come down.

I still say “save me Jebus” fairly frequently considering I haven’t seen this episode in over a decade

Jebus is definitely a line my older brother latched onto and used a lot. But it was only in my recent since Disney+ viewings that I realized that was Betty White. Who she was, was certainly not something I was aware of in that time. I can also tell my Brittish PBS show watching came later as my memories were the shows Chef! Or Coupling.

The modern version of "but first" is a YouTuber stopping to promote a product.

Unitarian here: I just like hearing other people say it. It gives us power, like a tulpa

I still watch, donate and volunteer for my local PBS Station. It has so much quality television. To answer Bob's question, yes, the PBS Passport application has a lot of great free content. However some things are only available if you donate to your local station. Henry, they STILL play the Les Miserables anniversary concert at pledge drives, I watched it a month or two ago. Those British comedies have been replaced by the Downtown Abbey's and other British crime dramas. But their nature documentaries, cooking shows, and the soothing balm of the Great British Bake-Off/Baking show are just a wonderful use of your tax money/donations.

What's the history between Conner and ernest kline? Is kline a dick? I didnt hate his books but I understand the criticism. Lot of energy to devote a podcast to one popcorn book lol

When I was in my late teens, in addition to sharing my cringy takes on the No Homer’s Club forums, my other hobbies included lightly and poorly trolling Christianforums.com. The little tag line that accompanied my avatar was “Save me, Jebus!” And a moderator made me change it because it was “irreverent.” I think of that time with regret whenever this episode, or “Jebus” in general comes up, so I have a similar Jebus reaction to our hosts I think, but mine is mostly related to self-loathing.

A few thoughts: - Bob saying S12 is overall better gave me pause, and looking at the episode guide again, I think he's right, but it didn't matter. I kind of relate this dynamic to The Office S8 and S9: the latter season was a demonstrable improvement but the previous season was soooooo bad (after an already considerable decline with Toby as the showrunner) it scared everyone away. And that holds true for The Simpsons. Unfortunately, in their case everyone wasn't shamed into shutting the production down and admitting they fucked up royal. - Henry needs to check out the B.C. strip from the '50s and '60s when it was anything but passive; cynical and violent as hell, before Johnny Hart found Jesus. - "Save me Jebus" is the only saving grace. This episode blows. - You can give due praise to Scully and MacFarlane for all the union stuff, but no amount of unionization changes the fact that everyone names a Scully episode as the one that made them stop watching or that Family Guy ruined primetime cartoons.

I must say, you are very brutal in your honesty, lol. That's nothing against you though.
