Welcome to our second miniseries of 2020! Thanks to your generous patronage, we're closing out this, uh, memorable year with an in-depth tour of the final nine episodes of Futurama's second season. And it all kicks off with the first episode about Hermes, a character who previously existed as a handful of Jamaica references (but don't worry, those are still here). Listen in as we explore the journey from milk to cottage cheese, discuss the dwarf in our book club that keeps stealing our opinions, and, thanks to the episode's writer, get seriously sidetracked talking about Mr. Show. It's one hell of a way to kick off our new miniseries, and we're so happy to have you along for the ride!

It's great how in the newest season Hermes has a flashback to the beginning of the song about the hurricane and his blocks being blown out of order

One possible alternate reading on the X-Ray Specs being stolen from a blind man, just to add to the joke density nightmare of that opening: Since they’re X-Ray Specs, prolonged exposure ruined the man’s eyes.

Hell yes -- this is what got me into Talking Simpsons to begin with.

Oh even still I can’t escape even the little things that covid took from me. After years of trying I finally got tickets for tenacious d back in March for a show in October. Considering it’s basically November I think you can all assume that I did not get to see the d this year. They didn’t even postpone the concert they just canceled it. I just really hope Jack Black and Kyle Gas stay healthy and alive and can eventually tour again so that I can finally see them because Tenacious D is like literally my favorite band and Kyle gas is the reason I play guitar in addition to like Johnny Cash and my uncle.

This was actually my first Futurama episode, and it comes with a kinda funny story. I was randomly going through channels and encountered this show, but it was about halfway through. I pressed the Guide button on my TV to see what it was called and it said "To Be Announced." I never saw those words before so far about a year I literally thought this show was called To Be Announced. Only once it finally had new episodes again did I see ads and recognize the characters and see it was called Futurama.

Just sayin' - this has been enormously funny and helpful on a bad day. Futurama may be a comfort show for me.

Thank you for including Bender's whole monologue, it had me laughing very hard on a very bad day. Something about Dimaggio, as Billy once told me, "he brought a bit of the gutter with him", gives his reads this undefinable quality. It's how he can sell this horrific beating and abuse of the elderly as if he's just bitching about a routine day and make it so hilarimous.

"Here's all America knew about Jamaica back then"... *forgets to mention Bob Marley* That got a chuckle out of me.

When I worked at Target they told me they made your hours based on the income of the previous year. So when I started in 2015 my hours were screwed because sales in 2014 sucked.

I would like to reiterate my Twitter beg from months ago that you not release "War is the H-Word" until such time as the possibility of Election Bullshit has passed

Great episode. Love Bender’s monologue too, especially his use of the word ‘chucked’. I always explode in laughter when I envision the professor flailing in the air.

Guybrush

This episode is so funny. I laughed out loud many times.

Hiiii Talking Simpsons, I said this on Twitter but I figure you guys get a lot of comments there so it might be more efficient to write here (and rest assured this is coming from a place of love!): I noticed a couple incidents of use of the term “an albino” here and it’s been used before to describe characters like Sheri and Terri and Wendell. Could you guys consider maybe cutting back on that and using the term “has albinism” (“Al” like Jean, “bin” like a trash bin, “ism”) instead? As you can see I do not have albinism but have had a few friends with it including one of my favourite teachers when I was young. While a select few people are fine with the term “albino” it’s generally up to them to decide but in general it’s considered an outdated and somewhat demeaning term. I realize it might not come up very much, but was hopeful that if it does, you would reconsider? Again, you guys can feel free to ignore this, or make fun of me (but maybe... don’t make fun of me? I’m a fragile bitch) but I thought it was an important thing to address.

In discussing Cubert, you say he doesn't show up again until Jurassic Bark in Season 4, but he's the star along with Dwight in The Route of All Evil.

Talking Futurama returning is like climbing into my warm, flannel, bed sheets on a cold New England night. I also love that you're doing Simpsons Season 11 and Futurama Season 2 at the same time since they were basically airing at the same time. If you hadn't decided on doing Simpsons Season 2 over again I think it would have been a lot of fun to alternate the regular Talking Simpsons feed with Talking Futurama so we could have tracked the fall of The Simpsons against the (creative) rise of Futurama. Beggars can't be choosers.

Maybe I'm in the minority but IMO - you can throw in all the Jamaican jokes you want. Dibert was never funny. Neither is Hermes. To me Futurama is the Bender & Zoidberg show. Matter of fact they should've re-titled it "Bender's Futurama" a la "Fonzie's Happy Days" as the network wanted to do. :D

Late to the commentary, but I think Morgan's attraction to Fry is so funny because it's just so unexpected from her character, and how comically turned on she is by Fry being a slob. Also, the gem you guys didn't talk about is that Morgan adds that she will deny sleeping with Fry if ever asked. Fry is so pathetic that he just responds with, "Just like every other girl that's dated me." He's just accepted that it's what happens. It justifies his later remark that "he's desperate".

Late to the party here by a couple years but it seems like all SNL is on Peacock now, if Bob is still interested in turning it on ambiently.
