Listen in and learn all about  the plight of Hermes' Manwich, the value of giant suppositories, the tragic condition known as Ocean Rudeness, and the rarity of mermaids with the fish part on top, and the lady part on the bottom. All this, plus real Atlanta facts from our authentically Southern co-host! So sit back and listen to the latest installment of a podcast miniseries recommended by 9 out of 10 poor, demented honkies!

Hey I’m watching Futurama right now. So the best joke other than the sex stuff is the story of Atlanta more jokes need to end with non sequitur like the magician

Paul

Good Lord you guys are wizards with timing here. Or should I say, The Magicians?

And also Jane Fonda was there

You did bart to the future and the Atlanta episode this week and you also announced some more schedule wonking for 2021. What's up your sleeve, gentlemen? What do you know?!

What was the editing error?

I still remember my first time in Atlanta's airport. I look at the signs for baggage claim and follow them. I am sent down a flight of stairs and I see a sign that says baggage claim with an arrow pointing straight ahead. So I follow it, walking for what seemed like miles passing gate after gate after gate. Then finally I get to the end of this endless hallway and now the sign says baggage claim with an arrow pointing right. What is to the right you ask? Why it's a train that runs parallel to the hallway I could have got on in the first place instead of walking 1/2 a marathon. Thanks for that Atlanta.

Season 2 & 3 is peak Futurama! Hope this becomes a regular series!

When I moved to Iowa from Utah a few years ago I thought I was getting pranked by loose meat sandwiches. The sandwich is neither sloppy Joe nor hamburger, and I find it worse than both. It defies all logic that thing!

I will say as a hardcore fishermen, it’s much much much more fun with 1. Friends 2. Booze and 3. Weed. But honestly you don’t even need two and three. The joy of fishing is just shutting the world off for a few hours do you don’t care if you sit there and catch nothing and anything you catch is just gravy because it’s better than being at work or something equally as stupid. Full disclosure I pretty much only do catch and release fishing because I don’t believe in killing the breeding fish but I will occasionally keep and kill the fish but only if I intend to eat it and the only fish I eat is the fish I catch myself which I think should be the rule because commercial fishing is literally destroying the planet and it makes me sad that there will be no fish for future people to catch.

New England snob here, but if you want some good lobster newberg, Bob, don't go to a Red Lobster. I'm guessing they probably get pre-packaged sauce, being a chain and all. It's fine, I worked at a seafood place through college that did the same, but not great. If we're ever allowed to have conventions again and you find yourself at Pax East, then venture out into Boston and find a seafood place that will sell you some of the good shit. I tend to agree with Henry that lobster is pretty damn good by itself, but it's worth it once and a while to do something else with it. Definitely superior to a Manwich.

My favorite thing about the Netflix Lost in Space is that it spawned loads and loads of thirsty memes about their thicc version of the Robot and his well-sculpted butt. So much so that Netflix responded a few times (including a "Y'all need Jesus" tweet) before eventually giving in and actually creating an official "Hot Robot Calendar" for 2020. (On display here: https://www.facebook.com/media/set?vanity=lostinspacenetflix&set=a.2975748462456155). As for the show itself, I liked it okay, but it didn't grab me enough to ever finish the first season. That said, Parker Posey RULES in it. And yes, I think the Robot is hot.

If Fry thinks the mermaid has hair extensions now, just wait until the series makes its Disney + debut; I heard they are planning on digitally lengthening the hair to cover the mermaid’s butt.

The Josie and the Pussycats film from 2001 is completely underrated. Its lampooning of the tsunami of product placement, which has only grown larger since then, confounded critics of the time and became the target of their ire. It also has a great late 90s post-grunge soundtrack assembled and recorded primarily by Kay Hanley of Letters to Cleo fame. It even has one of the two good performances Tara Reid gave in her brief window as a Hollywood starlet. Fuzz-rock throwback band Charly Bliss did an excellent live show covering most of the music. Would love to see it as an option for a What-a-Cartoon Movie in the future, if we can break the animated rule for films based off cartoons.

Love this episode. I’ve visited Atlanta many times usually as a midway point on the way to Disney World on family vacations. As an adult one of my favorite tourist attractions there other than the World of Coke is the Center for Puppetry Arts. They have a ton of Henson puppets on display. Highly recommend it when travel and tourism is actually a thing again. I’m pretty sure the only times I’ve encountered Donovan in media are in this episode and then later the actual song Atlantis as it plays during a pivotal mob beating scene in Goodfellas. Both are very memorable in very different ways.

Today I learned a Manwich is a real thing and not a funny term Futurama made up

As someone who was an Atlanta resident resident for three years, I hope one day I can move back there. It's such a beautiful and cultured city even with all the snarling traffic. I do find it funny in a meta sense that the big tourist attraction that has gone up in Atlanta since this episode aired is the Georgia Aquarium, the largest in aquarium in the United States. It seems like every non-Georgia resident who comes to Atlanta for more than a day always wants to visit either that place or the Botanical Gardens.

Gayest Episode Ever

Okay so Ariel and Umbriel are both moons of Uranus, but both those moons are named for spirit elementals in Alexander Pope’s Rape of the Lock. Specifically in it, they are kind of opposites, so it makes sense that this flip of Disney’s Ariel would be named Umbriel. There is also a moon named Belinda, who is also a character in Rape of the Lock, so I *think* that cements the reference

Last time I was in Atlanta I went to the Coke Museum and I remember one part of the tour the tour guide said "the coke today is identical to the coke of 1886 except for two differences. Does anybody know what they are?" There were a bunch of grade school classes there so I decided not to be a smart ass and yell "It had cocaine in it and didn't have high fructose corn syrup". The corporate approved answer was it was served at room temperature and had 4 times the caffeine.

Loved Atlanta when I visited but good lord avoid the summer if you want to visit attractions. Aquarium is amazing but was super busy.

Pedantic correction: It's the "The FOUNTAINS of Paradise", not "The Foundations of Paradise". Weirdly I think the biggest thing I saw from that Lost in Space series on Netflix is how so many people were horny for the robot in that series, which I don't see too often. Funny you should mention Parker Posey and Kevin Spacey so close together: Both of them were in Superman Returns a few years after this, a movie by a now-disgraced director we all know about. This time was basically the last era you could do Ted Turner jokes, he really exited the spotlight after the early 2000s. There's a similar "reverse mermaid" joke in Family Guy except with a merMAN, where they point out the same thing.

Donovan's Atlantis is honestly a banger. It may be a repetitive chorus, but what a repetitive chorus!

This episode is so much funnier than I remembered even, and Phil LaMarr's delivery on "THAT RAISES FURTHER QUESTIONS" is so perfect it's easily my line of the episode.

PurpleComet

The Krispy Kreme line is an all time favorite of mine.
