Boy, that summer went fast on the Talking Simpsons Network, eh folks? Well, once more it's time vote on the next movie we'll be podcasting about. And as we did with the last three polls, the subject of our $10 premium podcast will be decided a few weeks earlier than we've done in previous months.

Currently, we're so far ahead in podcast recordings that we've already finished the next What A Cartoon Movie! (Return of Jafar), meaning that in September we can record our OCTOBER movie podcast, and we can start as soon as you choose the subject!

If you're just joining us, you should know that once a month we release the What A Cartoon Movie! podcast, an extra-long discussion about an animated film, exclusively for our $10 Patreon subscribers. And when we open up the voting for each month's subject, we want all the $5 subscribers to also have a chance to be heard, so those subscribers can help pick episodes they might enjoy down the line!

October 2020 is time for Halloween, so just as we did last year we're setting the theme for a scary animated film! And yes, most are for kids too, but that doesn't mean it can't be full of horror!

Your four ghastly Halloween choices are:

Coraline (2009), based on Neil Gaiman's book, this is the film directed by Henry Selick that launched the filmmakers at Laika!

Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island (1998), the beloved relaunch of the Scooby franchise that makes monsters real and also is hella anime!

Vampire Hunter D (1985), the trailblazing direct-to-video Japanese animation with gorgeous designs by Yoshitaka Amano!

Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit (2005), the horror throwback that brought the British duo into their first and only feature-length film!

So please, make your Halloween choice be known before the poll closes on the night of September 7! Thanks as always for your powerful support, and know that we're really looking forward to recording October's podcast ASAP!

ali fornias

i am begging you all to pick wallace and gromit

John-Charles Holmes

Ooh is it's Wallace & Gromit's turn to pull a SpongeBob Movie and finally pull ahead???

Frank Grimes

Wallace and Gromit all the way. Although I have some nostalgia for vampire hunter d...i was somehow a member of an anime video club briefly as a kid...and that was one of the films sent, along with barefoot gen and akira.

Boyd Adkins IV

I'm voting zombie island as I feel it is chemically underrated. I also just watched the sequel and it just reminds me of how good the original is. Hopefully it wins out.

Adam Gaudry

Oh dear, looks like Vampire Hunter D doesn't stand a chance.

Matt Deakin

Looks like a case of arson. Someone arson about. Love that gag.

Nick G.

Were-rabbit is incredible, but I have a lot of nodtalgia for Zombie Island. Tough vote!

Derek Williams

If it was the second Vampire Hunter D movie that'd be the easy choice, but from these picks I've gotta go with Wallace and Gromit.

Alex Crumb

You monsters! Scooby-Doo ride or die!

Aric Yakel-Kuntz

Please W&G. I don't know Vampire Hunter D, but I love the other three. I just really want some W&G talk.

Cody C.

I think all 4 are great choices, I think Zombie Island is some of the best Scooby Doo so that’s my vote.

SomeBloke

Solid options. Ultimately I'm kind of interested in revisiting that Scooby Doo movie because it's so goddamn weird. "The monsters are real this time so we threw in like three different kinds and also magic, I guess, fuck it."

austin jeffers

I voted for Scoob simply based on the fact that I wanted to get some info on a few cartoons I haven't really learned about yet. I haven't seen the film even but judging from the comments this one is pretty wild so im in. I think ill watch it tonight with my daughter and see what she thinks.

Lucas London

Coraline is legitimately one of my favorite movies of all time. My wife and I put on nightly kids/family movies to fall asleep to and this one is just about a weekly play

littleterr0r

Oh wow. My vote, Coraline, is tied with Scooby-Doo at 29%

Graphite Shores

Talkin about Scooby Doo's Long ass history would be very interesting, as this movie pretty much saved the franchise.

nina matsumoto

At this point I want it to be a running joke that Curse of the Were-Rabbit never wins

Micah

You know what the D stands for right? Oh Yeah

SilkiePJ

Bob/Henry did say they were planning to do a Scooby Doo episode at some point in the future; so I'd prefer something different so we don't double dip into the lore/creation talk. Coraline though is really underrated and could use some more love, so I'm leaning there.

Frank Grimes

Surprised Scooby-Doo is doing as well as it is

Alex Irish

It’s coming down to Coral versus the Doo

Pumpkinbob

Coraline is the easy pic for me here. I like all of them, but Laika is such an interesting studio and I can watch their stuff just to admire the construction with repeat viewings. W&G is good for that too, but we were a Shaun the sheep house for years so that aesthetic doesn’t feel quite as magical any more.

VGreenGoblinV

Makin’ up a podcast on Coooooraliiiiiine!!!

Mike Mariano

Coraline was the only 3D feature film I enjoyed in that format. The textures on everything in 3D looked amazing.

James

Come on Scooby!

Chris Armstrong

Been waiting on Vampire Hunter D for a while. Damn.

Jon

I hope we get a Scooby Doo Mystery Inc episode one of these days

crystalhearts

Voting for Coraline but honestly, all good picks!

crystalhearts

This will mark something like the fifth time the wallace and gromit movie loses a poll too, won't it? My poor clay boys.

Adam Esat

Since Scooby won, I implore everyone to watch this Stewart Lee stand up routine in which he heavily references this very movie - https://youtu.be/OVPYFsTlp4Y
