It's the season finale of TalKing of the Hill, the Super Bowl of podcasts! This week, Luanne finds her calling as the host of a Christian puppet show, and casts Hank in the role of God. But will her faith be shaken when he opts to host his Super Bowl party instead? Listen in and learn the proper chip dip thickness, whether or not the word "sextopus" offends sensibilities, and how a couch can be used as a giant napkin. All this and Troy Aikman wraps up TalKing of the Hill Season 2 Part 1!

Thanks again so much for supporting us, and please stay on board for more exclusive podcasts coming very soon! And special thanks to our editor, Alan, for doing such a great job on another miniseries.

A+ on the football research, Henry!

The Super Bowl doesn't have a dedicated network or any kind of long-term rights deal. The NFL is basically so valuable for broadcast networks that the organization prefers to basically just go year-to-year because they can set a new rate each year. And since all of the major networks want it, it rotates among them. I think the only one to bow out has been ABC, so it's always on either Fox, NBC, or CBS. In 98 it was on NBC, and the following year it would be on Fox. And Hank rooting for the NFC is probably because he would definitely be a football traditionalist. The NFC is the original NFL while the AFC was once the AFL, a separate league. The two leagues merging is what lead to the creation of the Super Bowl, and at the time, a lot of NFL teams and fans looked down on the old AFL. And you are correct on the sports schedule stuff. The NFL plays 16 games per year (soon to be 17) while MLB plays 162, so literally ten times the amount. That's part of what makes the NFL appear so compelling because with such a small sample size of games it's hard for a team to be consistently good, or bad, and there's usually a lot of turnover in terms of who makes the playoffs and who doesn't. Baseball, for a long time, had a problem where the playoff teams rarely seemed to change. Though, now its major problem is the damn games are too long! The average length of a game is over 3 hours now and sitting through an entire 9 inning game is just such a slog. Congrats on making it through another limited series! This was an enjoyable exercise and I look forward to someday returning to Arlen to finish off Season Two. Though, I'm also rooting for the next limited run to be BTAS, but just in case, I did buy the complete Duckman should Bob's wildest dream come true.

This episode is surprisingly saddening. The Luann episodes this year have been so good, and Brittany Murphy was amazing. She's really the most interesting character in the show. If they are actually rebooting King of the Hill I just don't know what it will be like without her.

I remember seeing "Capricorn One" a while ago and really enjoying it. If you like the sound of it, definitely check it out. ^_^ Thanks again for the great podcasts.

really hope Talking of the Hill goes on long enough to eventually get to the episode where the manger babies go door to door with pro-communist commentary

That alternate ending sounds like it was going for some kind of god in the machine joke but clearly it wasn't communicated well. Thank you for doing this miniseries. I haven't revisited King of the Hill since it went off the air and these podcasts have been bringing back fond memories of watching the show with my dad who has since passed.

Blargh

I loved this miniseries. I want talking of the hill show permanently!!

It never occurred to me that the Manger Babies were Luanne re-enacting her life so thanks you guys for peeling that onion for me

I don't go back to this episode a lot because Brittany Murphy is so good in it that it reminds me that we lost her too soon. She's really good in this episode that it's actually hard to watch at times.

The manger babies song has been stuck in my head for days now! This was a great miniseries! I’ve never watched king of the hill but I listen to every episode of the podcast & as always I’ve really enjoyed learning about this show!
