As a woman listener, when you two got to the sex talk, I laughed so hard. Probably a commentary on how unless you study intercourse or sexual health, we are made to pretend we know all about sex to get by because it's still a very taboo topic in 2021. Without going too much into it for Henry, women give birth out of that same place they do snou snou and that all you need to know. 🤣😂🤣😂 Also based on context clues with the more horny episodes, I think Zapp is smaller than Fry but not by much.

They're definitely trying to have their cake and eat it too, but I sometimes wonder if they dialed up the "women be shopping" jokes as part of a deliberate Star Trek parody, with contemporary bad standup observations taking the place of 1960s versions of gender essentialism that were always cropping up in those scripts. With the presence of Zapp and the plot point about a giant computer running the civilization that I swear was in every other episode of the original series, the whole episode is kind of an extended riff on the usual way those episodes went, with death by snoo-snoo being the ultimate reversal on the usual "Kirk seduces the guest star of the week" beat. Granted, as you point out this is such typical SF plotting I might be reading too much into it.

On Paper Mario chat, there was actually a really good indie game called Bug Fables which is hugely inspired by TTYD and I highly recommend it! I was expecting it to be mechanically sound but without much to grab onto beyond that like a lot of indie homage titles can unfortunately end up, but the writing and characters are really fun too. I think it's on Switch and Steam.

I feel the need to say this just so no one's mixed up, Aaron Ehazs is NOT one of the co-creators of Avatar, he was just a writer. He's also apparently a sexist creep who lead a toxic workplace at Riot games and his new studio Wonderstrum. You did cover this in the mission hill episode he wrote but got the details mixed up bringing him up here. I just don't want anyone conflating Ehazs' actions with the actual Avatar duo.

I remember when I first watched Futurama on Netflix in 2011, and they had the episodes in production order. Years later they changed it to broadcast order and the same with Hulu. They had it right the first time, and then they decided to screw it up.

I was disappointed that they didn’t do a callback to Love’s Labours Lost In Space during Zapp’s performance of Lola by having him pronounce the word champagne like “sham-pag-un” again

This is such a fantastically, quotable, episode of Futurama. Listening to this made me quite nostalgic for my college years when Futurama quotes were aplenty among my friends and I. This episode especially is just such a real "joke factory" and the material toes the line of cringe, similar to all of the vegetarian jokes in the poppler episode, only this time it makes sure not to really cross any lines. This one is definitely less interested in being mean to anyone other than Zap and Fry as I get the sense that a room of male writers were at least fearful of angering an entire gender. They apparently had little concern for vegetarians though. I'm very much looking forward to this once-a-month treat going forward!

In 2004 when I was in college I picked up "Has Been" by William Shatner thinking it would be great for a goof and found a shockingly good album. The amount of talent on it is absurd and Henry Rollins tells a really funny story on one of his speaking albums about it.

Hey Bob, sorry but I gotta disagree with you on something. You said everyone like Thousand Year Door the most, and I actually do not I still like the first Paper Mario the most. I say this as someone who's beaten but at least 20 times, including multiple 100% playthroughs. While TTYD has a better story and characters, I dislike that it's battle system has SO much luck to it. Your characters can get hit by random falling things, even confused, and it's all about luck, punishing you for nothing. Also maybe it's just because it's a disk-based game but the loading time between rooms is noticeably larger so time is more wasted. These two factors make it so, while I still love TTYD, I basically have to force and commit myself to replaying it, whereas I literally can just play and beat the first Paper Mario on impulse whenever I want.

Henry i gotta ask why you think the Kinks song “Lola” is “transphobic”? it doesn’t read that way at all to me and, if anything, promotes the idea of gender fluidity. “Girls will be boys and boys will be girls. / It’s a mixed-up, muddled-up, shook-up world except for Lola.” if you have reasons, please share
