Oh, Bob. One of the funnier things I've heard recently is "my wife doesn't have an accent." She's as Canadian-sounding as poutine!

Sailor Moon was all over Australian TV back in the day. It was on in the morning on 'Agros Cartoon Connection' back in 1996. They'd play things like Pizza Cats too. You can see a whole episode of the block with Sailor Moon and a SM toy commercial here: https://archive.org/download/agros-cartoon-connection-the-book-place-partial-btq-7-1996 Years later another show block on another channel, Cheez TV, would play it later on in 2002 alongside Dragonball Z, Digimon and Pokemon episodes. at 7 or 8 in the morning.

I remember winning a gift certificate at my senior prom to my local mall (this was 2004) and using that to get a Sailor Moon DVD. I believe Pioneer released them. I forgot which episodes were on it. It's fitting because I started at an art college in the fall which makes my love for Sailor Moon justified. Haha.

The DiC dub had some good incidental music. Wish they would release a proper soundtrack. The call out music is one of my favorites

For Henry: The part about Jupiters "acting ability" without going into it, "acting" envy did happen in my friend group as a teenager. As the "best actor" I was on the end of that envy. *This post has been censored for comedic and sensitive purposes*

I have a real soft spot for the DIC adaptation of Sailor Moon. It's a show that I enjoyed mostly in isolation as I only had one other friend who I know watched it (though I bet more did than admitted). Considering the severe time constraints, I think the actors did a very admirable job. Some lines come out pretty silly or with a strange delivery, but it's remarkably cohesive.

Your extremely casual mention that Sailor Moon and Dragonball Z were in a syndication package finally explained how on Earth they wound up airing around the same time as WMAC Masters on some local Chicago TV station well before Toonami ever picked them up. It drove me crazy after I moved and no one knew what I was talking about. Closure at last.

Boob envy among young girls is definitely a thing

It's strange how unavailable this show is (in Canada anyway) since there was no legal way to stream or rent this episode, dubbed OR subbed. I'd be curious to check out more of it after these two WAC episodes, but with Hulu unavailable here, I guess I'd have to hunt down some discs

Oh man. The DIC dub is what got me into anime, even before Toonami started. My DIC dub bootleg DVDs are a real treasure. And I obsessively listened to the official dub soundtrack CD.

As a very insecure nerdy guy, I was a very closeted Sailor Moon fan back in the Toonami days. I remember watching it in my parents room with the door closed and my hand on the cable box in utter fear someone would walk in and catch me watching a girly show. Another very vivid memory I had was for the lost episodes. I remember catching every single one but the final episode. Despite the fact the story arc had ended, I was so curious about what happened in said last episode. Somehow, through family obligations I ended up missing the final episode through 2 whole rotations of the series. Toonami then had a marathon of all the lost episodes one Sunday and I sat and watched the entire thing (yes in complete secrecy and fear), and was completely devastated that the final episode was just a clip show. Just the voice actresses dicking around while watching clips and saying "I'M the leader!". I'll never forget that.

I’m pretty certain my introduction to Sailor Moon was on the USA network, and I think by nature of it being anime I was never worried that watching it was uncool even though I was a boy. As a kid I never noticed the Canadian accents but listening to the clips now I can definitely pick up on them. I tried watching the new dub and frankly it all just sounds wrong to me having grown up on the DiC version. A bunch of the actresses were going to be at my local comic convention in 2020 but then of course the pandemic happened, hopefully they can get them to come to the next one. (I want Susan Roman to tell me I look like her ex-boyfriend in her Lita voice).

one quick notes about sailor moon airing in canada. Thoe the toys didn’t sell well in the US they did sell better in Canada and I feel that was probably the main reason they dubbed the last not so much the poptart campaigns episodes. Also the dumb triva fact that futre daily show corespondits samantha bee and jason jones where both in productions of a live sailor moon show in toronto
