To quote Homer, "Brilliant. I have absolutely no idea what's going on."

The "FILTHY. But genuinely arousing" moment is maybe my favourite thing to come out of season 2, it just gets me in stitches every time. And it's a mood frankly. Hell, the whole bit with Bart working for Mrs. Glick is great - the World War flashback, and the iodine joke after, and Bart's frustration at how little he earned. This is a DAMN FINE episode of television, even 30 years later. -- Also I know it's to make it attainable for Bart, but my GOD, the first issue of a long-running superhero comic like that would go for a million, easily. I just paid over $100 for a RECENT reprint of 1980s Daredevil stories on ebay and that's the low end of the totem pole for this kind of thing, frankly. And they should really have a damn board in that comic bag. -- Comic book guy's "Looks like you got more than you bargained for" and deranged laughter is also something that pops into my brain a lot.

Somehow this is the most very nice, very evil day of my life

Alex Sheluga

This week's guest could not have been better timed!! I've had not one, BUT TWO surprise danhausen pops within 7 days! Between Talking Simpsons and AEW Dynamite, Wednesdays are my very nice, very favorite day of the week.

SlothIsLegend

30 minutes of kayfabe on the dot! Nice clock management, Danhausen

Matt Q

I was never a big comic book reader growing up but I feel like Evan Dorkin's Eltingville Club comics give me a good enough window into a time where the fandom was somehow much more insular, niche and mean spirited. Part of me wonders how much this episode inspired Evan Dorkin's work with the Eltingville Club comics that later became a pilot for Adult Swim. The whole plot of child men or man children fighting over ownership of an expensive item sold to them by a beponytailed comic book guy is similar. Also Dorkin apparently went on to work on Bongo comics so I assume he was a fan.

Vulpes

Please guys, never do something like this again. The fact that you're moving up in the podcast world does not necessitate getting your very own Bug Mane. Mercifully it only lasted 30 minutes because there is no way I could have listened to a guy talking in the third person doing a cornholio voice any longer.

Justin Gendron

An absolutely amazing guest! Very nice, very evil. I really hope he returns soon!!

Grant Baxter

As a massive wrestling fan, Danhausen joining AEW last week and now showing up on my favorite podcast to talk about The Simpsons is a dream come true.

Andrew Wiley

13 minutes in I don’t know what this is supposed to be but please make it stop and never return

Sean Riley

i dont know who this guest is, but i hate his schtick with my life

James O'Connor

No more guests that are in character and speak in third person please.

bryan

wtf

Shaxbert

Wow, you guys keep getting bigger and bigger guests- can't believe you landed Waluigi

RVG

What a get! Thanks Danhausen!

Chris Dobson

Great episode, this reminded me that when I was 11-12, my mom did send me to an elderly neighbor's house to mow her lawn and take her trash to the curb. I was not paid in nickels, but I remember one time she was like "oh, do you read comics, I've got a few of my son's somewhere," and I had visions of being handed 60's Spider-Man or some rare Batman, and she proceeded to hand me a bunch of issues of "GI Combat" and "House of Mystery" in poor condition.

Lockerus

I removed my earlier comment because it was unproductive. Apparently the guest drops the act around 30 minutes in. A time stamp in the description would have been appreciated for listeners who aren’t up on their wrestling acts.

notsmohqe

what a fun episode! it was nice to have someone interesting (in a different way from previous guests) on. people need to lighten up. i LOVE Leachman’s work in this episode. her reading of “You’re Welcome!” is perfect. I wonder if she and Nancy were together? I also always get a laugh at how quickly Radioactive Man goes from struggling to speak “becoming…radioactive” to fully costumed and giving his mission statement. was it that way in the Hulk origin? TEQUILA!

trasparenti

I also appreciate the timestamp - love everything you guys do and always appreciate a change of pace but I couldn't hang with the character or voice either Delightful guest otherwise

Dan crozier

Love that Danhausen, so many people are begging to get cursed

Ric Mahurin

Is the guest gonna talk like this the whole episode?

Guy Incognito

Please, please never have a guest doing a voice or a character ever again. It was unbearable. If I hadn’t come here and seen that he stops after a while I would have deleted the episode 5 minutes in. Don’t get me wrong, he was otherwise a great guest and this isn’t a knock on him personally, it’s just that this is a show to discuss The Simpsons, not a wrestling podcast.

Betsy Williams

Ok so I’m over an hour in now and super charmed by this sweet dorky wrestle man!

Carlos Hernandez

I once stayed at a hotel for a techno festival that was hosting a steampunk convention. It was great

Chris Tar

Loved Danhausen during this episode. I get the gimmick thing would be a turn off but I am also a wrestling fan so I love when people keep it kayfabe. In the same vain of Henry and his Spider-Man 33, a few months ago I finally bought a good graded copy of Action Comics 188 the one from The Iron Giant off eBay. I probably paid too much for it but screw it I got lucky on something and was able to sell it to cover the costs. Recently on the heritage auction site I saw the best ever graded copy of Action 188. I was desperate like Bart looking what I could sell, how many weeks of doing doordash would be worth it but when the live auction started and it went to $7,200 I was like nope I am not that crazy.

Ryan Oliver

Thank you for Danhausen!

Pete Johns | Studio Live Today

I feel like that guy that’s nodding along but simply doesn’t understand the joke. Am I Hank Hill now? Nervously chuckling and saying “that kid ain’t right”? Okay, so on a serious note, I think you needed to throw a warning at the start of the episode. Never been more confused and annoyed listening to the podcast, which I usually love. I get it it… I’m an “old” and not a comic book or wrestling guy, but this was rough for me. Absolutely no shade meant for your guest who I’m sure is an awesome dude. Just think a simple “if you don’t get it, fast forward 30 minutes” warning would have been amazing.

Declan Kennedy

I worried a little that I wouldn't get this one as someone who doesn't watch wrestling but Danhausen was great, seems like a very nice and very evil dude

To Boldly Joe... Moore

Wow... Danhausen was on Dynamite last night, and someone in the front row was wearing a Bartman shirt! ^_^

Frank Grimes

As someone who doesn't care about wrestling, this guest was okay...that first 30 he was a little obnoxious but it was kinda quirky, and I get it, that's probably his gimmick. Least the rest of the ep he was a regular guy. Still better than the chapo guys. Still the worst guests, since they try their hardest to be funny, over talk, and really don't contribute to the episode, if only to lament how they haven't watched the show.

Tyler M.

I didn’t realize that there was a wrestler who’s gimmick was to be the Grandpa from Hey Arnold.

Michael Branson

What a great episode. He was fun doing his Kayfabe. You gotta do it. He was knowledgeable and just a big simpsons geek like the rest of us. He was part of the discussion and not taking it over like Geffen did. Thanks for the great show guys and look forward to seeing Danhouser in AEW!!

Tony King

Once he was out of character Danhausen was a great guest! It's always fun when a guest has a lot to contribute to the discussion. I hadn't heard of him before, so was really put off in the beginning, but glad that all took a turn for the better.

Nah, it's the rumpus room. It's not really confounding as much as not a very interesting space to put characters in when there's already a TV room and a den that can serve the same purpose. For the layout of the house (like that matters), it made sense to use the rumpus room since it would directly view the treehouse out the window, but they could have easily done the same shot setup with Homer sitting in the TV room and cheated the treehouse over to be visible through the window next to the back door. Honestly for Magaggie's birthday, I feel like it's only the rumpus room and not the TV room so Maggie could point to that credenza you never see again. Virtually anytime the room has ever been used, they were pretty arbitrary. They were scenes that easily could have been the TV room again. The only time I've seen where the rumpus room is used to good effect was Season 28's "A Father's Watch" where Bart, from the backyard, can see Homer and Marge in the garage through the rumpus room window. Would have been too confusing of a cheat to have it be the kitchen or TV room window that time. Damn it, I wrote so much about the rumpus room!

As someone who used to cross the border frequently for work, I would load all of my spare US currency onto my Starbucks card before returning to Canada. Starbucks will automatically convert your balance to the currency of the country you're in. You'll never get a better rate on currency exchange...unless you're not a Starbucks person, I guess...

"Filthy, but genuinely arousing," is a top 10 Simpsons quote for me. Is it bizarre I associate it with my grandmother? She loved her "stories" and I still have VHS tapes around my house that date back to her that are just filled with recorded episodes of various soap operas. Unlike my mom who had her All My Children and that was enough, grandma was seemingly into them all which necessitated a VCR and one of those proprietary recording devices to get them all. I never really understood the appeal of soaps as a kid. I'd watch them from time to time with my mom or grandma and they just felt slow, predictable, and ridiculous. Now, as an adult, I get it. This was grandma's only socially acceptable way to get a little smut in her life. She wasn't going to rent a porno or even a really saucy R rated affair, so she had her stories for her excitement. She knew they were trash, but they served a purpose, maybe to my grandfather's benefit. I think it was Josh who recently elaborated a bit on the rumpus room on Twitter. In short, it was a space they thought would be utilized more often, but instead was rarely seen. I place it in the same category as the Springfield Elementary clock tower which will just show up out of no where for a scene, then disappear for years at a time. Tragically, it did not make it into the Lego version of the house, but neither did Maggie's room, or the dining room, or the den, or...okay, a lot didn't make it into that set, but at least they got the TV room in there.

If ya'll don't like the guest you can skip the episode :) Not every episode is for everyone. And its okay if you don't enjoy it. But you also don't need to scream at the creators how much this episode isn't for you. Very nice, very evil <3

littleterr0r

The Fall Out Boy thing reminds me of how Capcom named their game Gun.Smoke with a very important period separating the gun from the smoke.

Jason Williams

To whomever provided the time stamp as to when the annoying schtick ended, THANK YOU. Glad I checked here before deleting the episode about 5 minutes in. EDIT: I’m happy I listened to the episode because the first 30 minutes notwithstanding, it was an excellent conversation.

Evelyn Schlick

One of my favorite nerd conventions intersecting with “normal” stuff has always been FURther CONfusion in San Jose, a furry convention that would happen downtown would happen at the same time as a huge college volleyball tournament for women. One year there was also a yugioh tournament, so waking past a sign that had to point in three different directions that said “furcon - yugioh - volleyball tournament” was wonderful

T

I really enjoyed Danhousen! I've never seen him wrestle having been away from the ring for a while, now I wanna see some of his matches.

Kelly Lowe

The bit about the band Fallout Boy killed me, especially the parts about who they were married to, because as someone who was in middle school when FOB hit it big, those relationship details were VERY important to me 😂 Danhausen gets it right, Pete Wentz was married to Ashlee Simpson from 2008-2011. The Avril Lavigne thing got me too though, because I didn’t know she had been married to Deryck Whibley before (they were 2006-2010); so I thought you were confusing Sum 41 with fuckin Nickleback, as she was married to Chad Kroeger from 2013-2015. Oh, the celebrity marriage cycles. Anyway, great episode guys!

Cody C.

Didn’t work for me, kinda rough and appreciated when the voice got dropped but different strokes for different folks I guess. Love the podcast generally

Norman Benford

Loved the episode. Loved the guest. The entirety of the first 30 minutes of Kayfabe tied into the episode. Lots of old men yelling at clouds this week.

twistedmentat

The talk about a convention space sharing space with another event reminded me of Anime North 2017. Anime North is one of the largest fan run cons in North America and we get around 30k+ people on the saturday, which was also the weekend of the Canadian Conservative Party's leadership convention. Because of all the attendees of the con, it was hard to Cons to get to the convention and a number were unable to make it in time to vote. So its very likely that Andrew Scheer won the leadership vote due to people coming to buy Attack on Titan wallets. This also was the direct cause of the founding of the far right Peoples Party of Canada. The con chair was pretty pleased with how well Anime North came off in the political press though

John Taylor

Love that Danhausen! Also love Donovan Danhausen the human behind Danhausen who is genuinely one of the nicest people in wrestling.

glowstickjuice

Guess I'm the lone weirdo who didn't know the guest, but enjoyed him anyway. A youtuber I watch does indie wrestling sometimes, but other than their fights, I haven't seen much of the scene, but I'm slightly more interested now.

RyoGeo

The Danhausen character was, at first, confusing. “In character,” was disorienting. However, it did get me to look him up and goddammit, the guy’s FUNNY and I like what he does with the character. I’m not into wrestling, like…at all, BUT, Danhausen sucked me in and got me watching his content on YouTube. Aside from that, I REALLY appreciated his comments on the episode. The guy’s obviously a fan of all the nerdy things this fan base loves, and I think he was the perfect guest for the comic book centric episode. I’m not a wrestling fan, but I am becoming a Fanhausen.

Phillip

Glad this annoying voice didn't persist during the entire episode, was really looking forward to seeing this one revisited and discussed, its a shame the guest for it has to be some 'rassler. Sorry to Henry who really seems to enjoy the 'rasslin but I just don't get it and never have.

Zeke T

Not a frequent commenter here, but I wanted to offer an enthusiastic "YES" and thanks for the unique, funny, and memorable appearance from Danhausen. On this episode.
