SessionFlow 1.2: more room for your game (Patreon)
Content
Hey everyone! :)
This update grew straight out of your reports and requests. I went back through the things you told me were getting in the way, and 1.2 brings quite a few of those changes together.
A lot of them share the same idea: your preparation should be there when you need it, without making you fight for space or rebuild something you already made. Let me show you what changed.
A little more room for the game
You can now dock SessionFlow beside Foundry. There is a new button in the panel headers that gives it its own space, keeping the chat, sheets and hotbar reachable while you work. Click it again whenever you want to return to the overlay.
This was one of the requests I kept coming back to. Having all your notes ready is lovely. Having to close them every time you want to see the game is much less lovely :')
A docked storyline beside the game in my Exalted campaign.
And, on Foundry 14, a window of its own
SessionFlow can also open in a separate window. If you have a second monitor, you can keep your preparation there and leave the game on the main screen. Closing that window brings the workspace back.
The separate window needs Foundry 14's window support, available from build 368. Docking also works on Foundry 13. Both are GM tools.
Keep the important bits with you
The Teleprompter, Paragraph and Dice Tray can now be pinned. That means a piece of narration, a note or your dice can stay on screen while you move between sessions, beats and scenes.
It is still the same widget, connected to where it lives. Pinning is available to GMs for now.
A pinned Teleprompter stays with me while I browse the beat. Sample narration shown here.
A home for longer campaigns
Sessions now have folders. Group them by adventure, story arc, or whatever makes sense for your table. Removing a folder leaves the sessions inside it intact.
One adventure grouped together, with other sessions still outside the folder.
Change your plans without starting again
A scene can now move to another beat with its pages and widgets. If a conversation belongs later in the session, you can put it there without rebuilding it.
You can also move widgets between pages of the same scene, using Move to page or dragging them onto another page tab. This is a proper move, so the widget keeps its identity.
Reordering beats and scenes is easier to aim, and the list keeps its scroll position afterwards. You can also focus a drag handle and use the arrow keys to reorder.
Choose another beat and where the scene should go. Its preparation comes with it.
The quieter fixes matter too
The Dice Tray works without Dice So Nice. The Bones should never have needed another module just to show up. Sorry about that one :(
Steadier saving. Changes are handled more reliably when several things happen close together, and SessionFlow tells you when saving is taking too long.
More forgiving backup imports. Malformed bits of a backup are repaired before anything is saved.
Canvas shortcuts stay where you are working. Copy, paste and Delete inside the SessionFlow canvas no longer also act on tokens on the map.
Copy and paste work after clicking a page tab. You no longer need an extra click inside the canvas first.
Broken saved Character panel widths recover. A bad width in imported data no longer leaves you with an unusably narrow panel.
Session names with quotation marks stay whole when you open them to edit.
A small Exalted Scenes update is coming along too
Exalted Scenes 8.0.1 accompanies this update so the two modules work together more comfortably.
SessionFlow's Characters widget refreshes when you save a cast in the Directing Desk. The Scene Image widget shows how many characters are saved on that scene, and tells you when the Desk is the one playing.
On the Exalted Scenes side, characters added from SessionFlow to a Theater scene now appear on stage. Saving from the Desk also respects cast changes made elsewhere while you were preparing, and tells you which changes it kept.
One useful thing to remember: SessionFlow plays the cast saved on the scene. If you have prepared your cast in the Directing Desk, use Save to scene before starting it from SessionFlow. Update both modules to get the complete set of fixes.
The scene preview and Characters widget show the saved cast together.
Something I want to share with you next
There is another direction I have been thinking about, but it is not part of 1.2.
The look of the Wand & Widgets modules has changed quite a bit recently. I have a clearer idea of how I want them to feel together, and when I look at SessionFlow now, parts of it feel a little too bubbly, a little older than the direction I am moving towards.
I like the new direction, but I want to hear how you feel about it too. I will share some before-and-after previews on Discord first, so you can see what I mean and tell me whether it feels right to you. Does it make you excited? Is there something about the current look you would miss?
I would love to make that change with you.
Thank you for every report, suggestion and bit of patience. They really do shape what these modules become. <3
