“It… it will make me commit suicide?” she gulped, almost not believing it.
“Yes. It seems like whoever crafted this spell for you made sure to cover every angle and possibility. The spell is subtle, but strong and, as Aaliyah stated, a lesser woman would have been overcome by it by now. To have held against such a depletive spell and still have a desire to live… your will is… insurmountable!” Dimitrius told her.
“But… is there a way to… remove it? Dispel it? Is that the right word? Dispel?” Jennifer asked.
“It is, but I’ve looked over the spell several times and there’s no way to undo it without triggering the end point of it. If the spell was freshly cast, then yeah, as it would not be so tightly bound to you. But, seeing as how you’ve carried this spell for years now, removing it is… impossible!” Valerie told her sorrowfully.
“How… how long do before this… trigger goes off?” she asked as the grim reality of her mortality set in.
“I can’t—” Dimitrius started before he was cut off.
“How. LONG?!” Jennifer demanded, her voice like iron.
“Tomorrow. Sometime around noon, but that’s my best guess. This is magic, not science, so I’m sorry, but I cannot be more precise than that,” the warlock told her.
“T-there has to be something we can do! Some sort of spell, a ritual… something!!” Sheena barked, not ready to accept defeat just yet.
“I’m sorry, but I’ve seen this kind of spell done before. I’ve also… used it a few times during my tenure as a Dark Father. The only way around it is if the witch or warlock in question left any gaps or holes in the spell. I’ve been analyzing it for the better part of an hour now. Whoever cast this spell took their time, and they knew what they were doing,” Dimitrius stated.
“So… what are we supposed to do?! Just let her die?!?” Jason growled, angered that an innocent was going to die on their watch.
“Maybe… maybe that’s what we do!” Luke said with a snap of his fingers.
“Luke, have you lost your fucking mind?!” Dominique almost screamed, her anger at the man igniting at this suggestion.
“No, no, no, stay with me on this! What if we… ‘killed’ Ms. Ravenshaw? We simulate her death by stopping her heart early, before the spell is supposed to go off! Once her heart stops beating, then the spell that keeps her stuck in a negative loop cycle has no energy to feed off of! At that point, the spell would dissipate and cease to exist! Then, we use our magic to bring her back once the spell is dissolved!” Luke said excitedly.
“That’s… that’s fucking brilliant!!” Dimitrius said out loud as he realized the implications of what Luke was suggesting.
“Wha—are you—” Jennifer stuttered as she tried to follow the logic.
“Luke… you’re a Gaia-damned genius!!” Sheena yelped as she was literally jumping for joy. “Unless… there’s a contingency for that work around too?”
“Not from what I can see! ‘Killing’ her would be the best option to have her be saved from such a fate. While many of the ‘Gods’ that humans worship are false, ending your own life, even when under another’s influence is not something anyone should do,” Dimitrius stated.
“Souls are punished for that sort of thing?” Jason wondered.
“Yes… and said… torments they endure… let’s just say that it makes what Dante wrote about hell… seem like a weekend in Disneyland,” the warlock told them.
“Yeesh! Well, since that’s the case, I think we should finish up here, grab what we need to and head back to the house! With everything that we have set up there, I believe that’s the best place for us to help Ms. R out!” Luke told them.
“I agree! The Nymphs and their magic will also be instrumental in helping us bring her back as she is,” Phalmina replied.
“But, the question is, do you want the help, Jen?” Jason asked, looking at the older woman. She seemed completely stunned by everything she was hearing, but she took a breath and spoke her mind.
“My life has been one massive upside down mess for years! So many things have happened that it makes my worst nightmares seem like a pleasant place to be. I don’t understand any of this, and it’s going to take a while for me to wrap my head around it. But… if it helps me find my way back to a better life than what I have now, I will go along with it. So, yes, I accept the help you are offering!!” Jennifer told the group.
