I'm almost to the finish line!
This build has been teaching me so much and has involved a lot of trial and error. I've got some pictures of crafting the tail, and realizing that I need to maneuver my sewing needle around the sequins to not disrupt the look of the fabric. I first made a tail out of some satin, got that to fit pretty tight, and then stitched the sequins fabric on top. I need to add the ruffles and the fins at the bottom.
I also wanted to figure out how to get the scarf - cape - thing she has around her neck to float. I used some wire to construct an arch that would sit on my shoulders and hopefully hold the fabric up. Not sure if I will need this underwater, but it'll be great for wearing to cons.
The wig was the first time I've ever used a wire and glue to make structures like that. I almost gave up a few times. Its not perfect, but thing ever is the first time you do it! Please enjoy the crazy progress photo. I spent this afternoon curling the wig to give it a cute fluffy bounce. If you are new to styling wigs I think that getting a wig head + stand and a steamer really is worth it. It is so much easier to get the shapes I want, AND I can get them much faster, AND I don't burn my hand on the iron!
Tomorrow I'm trying it on to make sure that everything sits correctly. I am nervous and excited to get this done for the underwater shoot this weekend! I will for sure post BTS photos here. :)
