Last week's inspirational dogget pic was on a Friday, but then I thought maybe Wednesdays are better. I mean, not that I'm saying it's definitely going to be a regular thing, but taking pics of my dog and making them into inspirational posters on my phone and sharing them with just a few friends is kinda a hobby already. And it can help focus the flood of dogget pictures into a more meaningful and manageable form.

Still figuring this Patreon thing out. I wouldn't expect to keep up the current rate of almost-daily posts.

Today I am thinking about DREAMS. If this Patreon thing works out better than expected and I am truly able to work on whatever I want, what would I do? In a sense, that's what I'd been doing for four years---working on whatever I want, except with a larger budget, and a team, and equipment, office, etc. Without a team, it limits what I can do in some ways, though there's opportunity to do deep work of a different kind.

Boss responsibilities take a lot of time and energy. I love it when it's going well, but wasting four months of my life on a failed attempt at team research fundraising is making me really feel the draw of dropping it all and getting back to deep work. And thanks to the generous contributions y'all have made so far, I'm starting to really feel the possibilities.

Fall is my favourite season. I love the leaves, the smell, the crunch, the skittering sound of them blowing in the wind, the changing temperature, hot drinks, hot soup, reading cozy by the fire, preparing for winter, holing up and traveling less and taking more time to look inward.

Believe in autumn dreams, my friend!

Suggestion: make posts like this open. This is something I was immediately tempted to share on twitter with a link back to the Patreon. It's good if there's some open content on the Patreon for people to taste. Viral Marketing FTW.

Also (sorry if I'm being too markety when responding to the cute dog), right now it's good that you're making your income public, because it's not enough. But you can hide that, and if your income starts to take off, you should either hide it or, if you are not using it to invest in 50 cadillacs and a mansion in the desert, talk about how you _are_ spending it For Great Justice. :)

I've been trying to figure out what to work on as well. I have a fulltime job but it leaves me with a good deal of free time too and I've been trying to get something independent off the ground so maybe I can break free of corporate slave labor lol. I do coding and creative writing and I've been kinda bouncing between pursuing really big projects that really capture my imagination or smaller projects that I'm more likely to finish. I have a problem with finishing things. I'm great at starting things. If you could make money by starting projects and getting half way through I'd be Bill Gates by now. I always get to a point where the decision is to either continue on a project I've lost all vision, direction, and motivation for or cut my losses and switch to this new idea thats 10x better and I'm super excited to pursue... I always go with the new idea and I never finish anything. But none of that has much to do with your post lol. Good luck on figuring out what to do next. What ever it is I'm sure it will be successful. Dont be like me lol, see it through.

Glad you like my dog! I like to keep her secret from the wider internet because she's part of my personal life, but hopefully I'll have other more open content before long.

This is a good idea because I want a desert mansion made out of 50 Cadillacs.

I know a lot of folks with that problem, including my younger self! For me, eventually I decided I just needed practice finishing things, and so I decided I was just going to spend a month practicing finishing things. I picked a pile of old projects and said I don't care if it's finished well or as I originally intended, I'm just going to do whatever it takes to call them finished and get lots of finishing practice. Old abandoned short stories got abrupt endings, books turned into short stories, piano pieces got repeats and weird transitions, project outlines turned into "creative art project performance piece", whatever it took to call it done. It was actually a very helpful exercise, and I remember it as a very good month! Then I spent a while picking practice projects that were within a scope that I knew I could complete from start to finish in reasonable time, for start-to-finish practice. My philosophy is that it's a skill, and you just gotta balance out your start-things practice with finish-things practice, and it's less about the project itself or how exciting it is.

Wow. That makes a lot of sense. Thanks for that!
