So for the past three days I've been working on trying to make a fun little music theory video... but it turns out the syncing process is not as automatic as I thought. So that might have to wait, possibly forever.

But I did decide to post on my second channel just the short piece I wrote for y'all to fit within a lens clip the other day.

Here's the sheet music if you want: http://vihart.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/mini-etude-in-d-vihart.jpg

Etude, Brute?

Thank you again. My turn for a scotch neat.

I don't want to be a kissup and just say oh I love this. I listen to a lot of Bach because I love---well I'm a major baroque guy. This piece of yours is in there with Bach Preludes, but you are an original of course. Perhaps you like Bach as well. a/w--i love this--(well i said it a/w didn't I) That's what I first thought on the lens clip--Baroque Prelude.

Kenny Tilton

OK, now I am hammered. So what occasioned me to ask what work it was was that, reconstructing, the unbearably wonderful fluidity of your play ejected me from the experience and made me wonder, damn, does everybody play that piece that way? I had checked my credit card balance and was headed for iTunes to buy every version. And how often do we get to use the word was twice in a row? Where was I?

Courge Musquée

Short and sweet, as they say. I guess you call it an etude because of the 4 against 3!

vihart

Nobody has ever played this piece this way because no one has ever played it before! But the "sheet music" is linked in case you know someone who'd like to try.

vihart

I am a huge huge Bach fan. He is a big influence on me!

Rick Rubenstein

A little research suggests there are more etudes in D than in E, and yet there are twice as many E's than D's in ETUDE. A deep mystery.

vihart

Even more curiously, there's a reason: e, a very good vowel, won 5th place in the letter competition, which is not bad if only major keys started with A. But the natural major key is C, so, by fifths D is only two steps away and so only two sharps to E's 4.

vihart

That is to say, order matters!

Edan Maor

OK that was really quite beautiful. I'm definitely thinking of learning it! Do you have other original music out there?

Kenny Tilton

btw, Please don't think the fade-out animation of the title went unappreciated. Perfect in itself.

It is a joy to find a sweet little musical twiddle in my inbox in the morning, and then to be able to walk to the piano and play it. Thanks!

I don't think I've posted sheet music before. I'd like to do more music though!
