Hello good humans!

I'm in the home stretch for the next scutoid video, and this series is really starting to go somewhere. I'm very excited about this one! (Though aren't I always? Life is good.)

Ok, so one of the weird things about Patreon is trying to let y'all know what I'm working on ahead of time, because my usual process involves a lot of trying things and sometimes scrapping them, or working on something for weeks only to put it aside for a month or ten years, or having something gel very quickly. I don't always talk about everything I'm working on because my brain is full of a thousand things that sometimes are only clearly things in retrospect.

Anyway, the papercraft scutoid how-to video is once again pushed back on the schedule, while I've been working on another scutoid baking video that I really wasn't sure would work out.

I wanted to see if we could really get into the math at the soul of the scutoid paper, as well as why discoveries like this matter. I want to leverage the kind of weird that sneaks around the barriers people construct around their hearts and minds in suspicion of beautiful things.

It took a lot of revisions and I'm still not quite sure everything will go as intended but the script finally gelled into something I'm happy with, and last week's round of footage seems to have come out well!

I have a bit more to shoot and edit to get it where I really want it to be, but it's almost in a publishable state as it is, so even if my other bits don't work out it's still happening soon.

The down side, I suppose, is that with this whole scutoid series I've been working nights and weekends like I was not supposed to do, but IT'S DIFFERENT THIS TIME I SWEAR, because I am actually getting moneybits from my current "dayjob" contract with Microsoft and from the 180 video support from Google and Patreon bits that make it all work out. Overtime is legal if you actually get paid for it for once, right?

I really like this thing where I at least get paid for overworking. Now I don't have to freak out so much about what if not much comes up in the second half of the year. EVERYTHING IS FINE.

...but I really do need free time in life again, and this will be the final video in the Google-supported set and then I will try to be a real human being for real I promise!

I'm also now over a month into the Microsoft contract, and I'll talk more about that another time... I'm working with M and Jaron on a presentation about it that will hopefully have a public version in the coming months before my contract ends.

Anyway, I'm realizing that Pi Day is also on the horizon... not sure if I'll have any free time between now and then... ok I just realized I titled this "Feb 2018 updates"... and that's my file finishing converting, so I'm gonna hop back to it!

Oh but I do like this video!

Don't overwork yourself on the non-time-critical stuff. If I know anything about my fellow patrons, it's that we're happy to wait a little longer to get a polished product and a not-burn-out Vi.

The Dogget at the ready! I can see that pentagon or hexagon...or both?! question in the eyes. Money for work has a nice balance to it. Sleep rocks, too.
