Nicole

I know you *saw* the killer, but I would almost consider that a red herring! That's how many twists and turns you will take, if that brings you any consolation 😊

Jenny Jackson

Hey, don't beat yourself up about that spoiler. Its actually not a big deal! There's like 2 scenes that'll be a little different for you now but other than that its fine!

Melissa

That's what I was thinking, Nicole!

Kate

This show has been on my to watch list for so long but I never got around to it so I’m really excited to be watching along with you. Really enjoying it so far. Also completely random but every time you say Tax Man the song Sax Man by Jack Black and Lonely Island immediately pops into my head 😂Not quite the same vibe lol.

ArcAngel

So glad you like it! Been so excited for so long for these 8 hours here on your channel!

frankfreezy

happy we're all enjoying it togrther lol Lonely Island was a plague on me in early college, them dudes were so stupid yet so entertaining. i think i missed that song

Melissa

Rustin Cohle is one of the all time great TV characters.

Susan B

Frank, I knew who the killer was as soon as he was on camera. Not from a spoiler, but from growing up in an evangelical church.

ArcAngel

Little detail... When Marty drives like a psycho to his side-chicks apartment, he drives up onto the sidewalk and totally flattens a pink little girls bicycle. After hearing how Rusts daughter died...yikes...

frankfreezy

Fakkkkkkkkk!!!!😭 my brain picked up on the recklessness of him crashing into the bicycle, but I definitely didn’t put it together with rusts daughter

ArcAngel

It was nice to see (in episode 4) Marty finally does some actual police work after hours! . Which was good because as you said, the pressure really ratchets up in this episode (they are running out of time). Before this episode, it was mostly Rust that was deep into the evidence...if Marty hadn't done some investigation himself and found Tyro Weims and the name of the Iron Crusaders, I'm not sure Marty would have been willing to take so much risk at the end. I feel like finding that evidence invested Marty more in the case and helped snap him out of the downward spiral he was clearly on after his worlds collided. Although, in the end, it seems like Rust might have rather just jumped Ginger from the beginning... but on the other hand, if the awful biker guys had done that 'job' and Rust wasn't there to try and mitigate some of the damage, they probably would have caused way more carnage. So maybe it's good Rust was there. That scene is tense tho...the one-take is really effective! I'm so impressed you noticed the one-take, btw -- I totally missed that on first watch. 🙏❤😇

ArcAngel

I will admit to a character specific crush! (weirdly, not into Matthew McConaughey in anything else, but Rust ...😻).

Valaree

That sequence at the end is so insane. Absolute chaos.

Melissa

I'm also mad for "A Time to Kill" Matthew. 🔥🔥🔥

Melissa

I'm still of the mindset that who Frank saw may not be the killer. There are several red herrings in this show.

Melissa

The actress you recognized from IWTV -- you're right. Her name is Dana Gourrier, and she is listed as being in this show. You have a great eye for noticing actors from other shows.

Melissa

That one-shot gets better every time I see it.

Susan B

I mean, look at the news. Trump’s “spiritual advisor” in Texas is going away for sex with a 12 year old.

Susan B

Don’t worry that the killer-spoiler will ruin this for you. It’s less a whodunnit than a how-do-we-figure-it-out

Susan B

I can tell how one of these detectives would vote, and that the other one wouldn’t. 🥸

Susan B

IMO, the USA’s obsessive religiosity has raised generations of people for whom critical thinking is a sin.

Susan B

This show, y’all. Frank, thanks for watching this. It’s my second viewing, but it’s been many years and I’m reminded now of how exceptional this was. It is the best season of the four, but they are all worthwhile.

Susan B

You mentioned having a near-death experience. If you want to say more, we’d all benefit from hearing it.

AngryGreen

Love these two and their bickering, but I have to side with Rust on most of what he has to say as a bit of an atheist pessimist myself. Whenever I see these types of shows I'm always stuck by how religion is used to manipulate, control and drain people and communities. On an unrelated note, I see you teasing us, yet again, with the Louis de Unfinished du Painting. 👀

Cristabel

Cohle kinda reminds me of Beric Dondarrion in Game of Thrones when he’s talking to Jon and says “we won’t find much joy here but we can keep others from dying.” I had a near death experience about 25 years ago. I remember feeling terrified then suddenly, perfectly calm. Happy even. It was weird. I just thought I wanted to spend my last seconds engaged and involved and not blindly terrified. I thought of the two things I was most proud of (how I have a strong connection to animals and how I was able to disentangle myself from the damaging religion I grew up with) and felt satisfied with how my life had gone and how I’d lived it. It wasn’t scary at all. This experience has really helped me. I don’t really fear death anymore. I know it’s not scary.

Cristabel

Also from White Lotus and San Andreas!! Love her

Cristabel

Unflinching. It’s what I think of when I see him. He has seen and lived the worst humanity and the random cruelty of life and does not shy away from it. He embraces it. He uses his connection to the dark to ferret out killers. He can read the hearts of these evil men because he does not flinch away from the hard truth. But it is pure misery to live that way. He may be punishing himself for his daughter’s death or maybe he just doesn’t care about his own feelings or well being he just feels driven to drive out as much of the evil as he can. It doesn’t make him much fun to hang out with but it sure makes him interesting and honorable. Love Cohle so so much.

2026-09-30 14:00 The whole reason a lot of people don't like Season 2 is how the fuck could you follow this season? It is a good season if you unhook it from the name True Detective. But it is held to the level of this season. Of course it isn't gonna hit this level. It is just different, but in my mind, it is still quite good.

Also, only 8 episodes of this IIRC.

Melissa

OMG, yes!!!

Rigo

I've noticed that you don't often comment on the visual aspects of things you watch (mise en scène, cinematography, visual motifs, etc.) which I guess surprises me, given your incredible artistic talents. Do you deliberately avoid commenting on those things? Or are you so invested in the characters and the plot that you don't really pay close attention to the way the visuals enhance the storytelling? I'm asking under this video in particular, because I feel like this show has such a rich visual component that I'd love to hear you speak about if it ever crosses your mind.

Lynn Baker

oh shit, man. rust is truth without comfort. and marty is comfort without truth.

frankfreezy

Good question. I do notice them and take it all in. It helps enrich what I'm watching. But I don't think speaking about it comes naturally to me, as the plot and characters do. I will try to say more about those elements when they cross my mind

frankfreezy

Religion is on hell of a drug Louis de Unfinished du Painting🤣🤣🤣

silly goose

"can you imagine the shit ppl would get up to if they didnt believe?" "the same shit they do now. just out in the open." the way the writer nailed that shit. and then damn, Frank the way you followed it up with "treat other ppl good, TREAT YOURSELF GOOD" thats so A+++++. i think ppl often emphasize treating others well but not ourselves and that is so crucial to the human existance, to treat our own selves good.

silly goose

im so glad you understood of the altercation between rust and marty after rust returned the mower and mowed the lawn. the way marty was so insecure because of his own infidelity and the way he projected onto rust, was so hypocritical. i've seen reactions where dudes will trash maggie or the fem reactors for 'not getting it' but like bro, marty is legit so insecure already, tag on to that the fact that he is cheating and justifying it as 'good for the family' is so SICK. and like the way maggie and rust were having innocent, casual conversation just triggered marty to no end because of HIS OWN SHORTCOMINGS.

Oh man! I thought you had season 2... Idk why people be hating on season 2. It is definitely my fav season. I love season 1 as well. Almost a tie. But there are some things that I think really make 2 amazing. Rachel McAdams is amazing! And Vince Vaughn. Colin Ferrell too. I promise it is very good. Please watch it!!! 🤞🤞🙏🙏🙏
