Some embarrassingly messy pencils from a smallish thing I was going to post today...but I just had a crash and I lost a few hours of work on it.  I'll have the actual thing up in a bit.

Yeah. I use auto-save. It's technically 'auto recover' in Adobe's case, because the data only seems accessible in cases where Photoshop detects that it had crashed when you start it back up again...and it's dreadfully unreliable. In my experience, either it doesn't work at all (such as when Windows 10 grinds to a halt and you can't do anything but hard-reboot, which is what happened in this case) or the recovery file you get back is a flat black canvas with a solid red line across it instead of your big, layered PSD. Since I began using CC and Windows 10, I've had numerous crashes, and auto-save has come through for me a grand total of one time.

Sorry to hear you lost some work, that's certainly very annoying and frustrating, alas these Elsa sketches are looking good.

Tracy Butler

Yeah - my experience with 3DS Max autosave is much more positive. Autodesk's version of autosave actually works the way you'd expect something called 'autosave' to work.

Doscher

My pencils should be so 'messy'. ;P Condolences on your lost work.

They're great sketches and it's fun to see your work in all different stages, including "messy". Sorry to hear about the crash but losing only a few hours is better than it might've been -- glad you're backing up!

In the case of these sketches, messy=beautiful. Sucks about the crashes, I was having the same issue with OS X and Manga Studio until I got fed up and reinstalled everything. Hopefully you won't have to do that... anyway, awesome drawing!

Are these from one of the volume 3 pages? My hype is so real right now.

If this is what you call embarrassingly messy, I can't wait to see it completed!

I'm just gonna go ahead and make a very wild guess about what these sketches are about... I remember someone asking for a mini comic idea about the that time Mordecai got wounded and how would he act when high on pain killers. He was shot while an operation nearby Defiance, so my best guesses are that Elsa being a war time nurse would have been the one to treat his wounds rather than Doctor Quackenbush because they got back to the Arbogasts when they finished the job, leaving Viktor behind to keep things in place. I dunno, maybe call me a wishful thinker but that's what I read from the sequence of images and that syringe (probably morphine?) she is holding, but this could be anything else really. There, I said it. Now let's wait and see.

I absolutely love this character and her design

Pfftftftf "embarrassingly messy". They're not too messy at all~! They have a nicely rough/human look to them, it's actually a nice touch, you have nothing to worry about! Also, I realy love this character, so it's nice to see some sketches of her. Thanks for the update even after losing the progress :>

Garrett Simpson

Quite lovely,Elsa's beautiful in her own very somber, collected, and down to earth way!

Love Elsa, and love the sketches of her. Actually, I love all of the characters and am particularly smitten with Viktor and Mordecai as well. Okay, now for something totally off the subject -- How is Maya doing? Would love a quick update on her, as she must now be quite a little lady!

Prince Sitri

Completely agree with you word by word.

Gorgeous work as always Ms. Butler!

I have always really loved her design. She stands out as one of my favorite characters in the visual department. She might be past this phase in her life, but just once I'd like to see her smile.
