Here’s a better look at those masks that I spoke about in the previous post. The idea behind the masks is that each of these councillors is merely filling a role, the individual is what is important. Every Star-engine in the Nomad-star selects a prime minister and when it’s their chance to be represented on the high council they select two, one to stay at home and one to assume a role on the high council in the stellar drive.

Seeing as this is an extremely prestigious position, I got to thinking about how that would be shown, or rather, how the Tandrax would choose to show it. What would a species that can strip mine an entire solar system prize as a precious material? I landed on stabilised Tantalum, which the Tandrax call “polished starlight”. Tantalum-180m, is the rarest stable isotope in the universe and this refined Tantalum symbolises the wealth of the Tandraxian Empire.
