This page evokes a new level of creepy and sadness, and the colours...wow

I really like this panel. My imperfect interpretation is “it’s all fun and games until it happens to you.” I like how Deicide’s conscience is getting kindled.

Isnt it way to dangerous for the allmother to let this dead himans remain under the moon.shouldnt there genome be useful to reconstruct a functioning human genom to recreate the human race? Radiation and time shouldnt be a problem at this point.

so what is the thing deicide trying to find on the remnant of the luna colony? and how's earth after the AM takeover? do that planet become her HQ?

CallumStephenDiggle

He’s not trying to find anything in particular, at this point he is still loyal to the imperium, his curiosity just got the better of him. He went to investigate those shapes (bodies) on the surface and their trail lead him down into the lava tube, at this point he’s just wandering around bewildered. His entire worldview, everything he thought he knew is being tipped on its head. What happens next will push him further over the edge… There’s a whole history of events that happened between the All-Mothers activation and the formation of the imperium. Eventually these events will be told, so I don’t want to spoil them here. The end result was the earth being transformed into the defensive membrane (that huge coronavirus looking thing that we saw briefly in this issue and more so in issue 2 of volume 1 when Oughrigadd was summoned to meet with the All-Mother). The defensive membrane houses the inner sanctum at its centre, that’s the All-mother’s main connection point to our universe, the central emitter if you will. The All-Mother herself now resides in a pocket universe of her own creation and seeps her consciousness into our plain of reality through the emitters (beacons that amplify and spread the All-Mother’s psionic signal into the universe) and the Over-Fathers (who act as living minor emitters for the All-Mother, further casting her consciousness out into the universe). There’s a whole network for how the imperium work, I’ll explain that in better detail and with visuals later on this volume. The TLDR of this is, the Earth was destroyed and transformed into a super fortress for the All-Mother called the defensive membrane.

It is a bit of a gamble yes. Deicide speculated a few pages ago that it is kept there as a test of loyalty for the Over-Fathers, to see if they will betray the All-Mother’s order not to go there. The moon is a trap basically. But there are perhaps other layers for why she keeps it there, could it be sentimentality? Deicide said it is foolish to attribute human level emotion to the All-Mother, but could it be that he was speaking retrospectively from a point of hate? Could it be that the All-Mother felt some level of guilt and maybe even remorse for what she had done in some way? That she went to destroy the moon, that reminder of what once was, but something in her stopped her. In the end she still twisted it to serve her. It’s one of those questions that I’m going to leave open for now, because I believe it is best to. Sometimes a series needs mysteries, questions left unanswered.

"across many a dead forest" im sorry if im wrong but i think that spelling is wrong english is not my first tongue so i may be wrong

Gabu

I like the visual symmetry of his fiery glow and his words “that once held the flame of life”

Gabu

Good eye, but This is correct grammar. It’s just a more poetic way to say “many dead forests”. It draws attention to this individual forest as the subject of the speakers story. Ex: “Many a man had looked upon these trees, but none with such a gaze of loss as this man”

CallumStephenDiggle

Thanks for checking over it Cubirk, I appreciate you trying to make sure that errors don’t slip through. Gabu explained the usage well in the replies, it’s correct way to use it.

I just got found your page and read the entirety of humanity lost in the last two days up to this page, and I just want to say WOW. Like seriously dude from your breathtaking artwork to the concepts that feel so original. Its incredible. (Also I personally love how your illustrate the cross section off every ship and the little directional arrows for movement like in one of the old “how it’s made” books)

CallumStephenDiggle

Thanks so much, that was so nice to read. I’m really glad you’ve enjoyed the journey, it’s a journey that has taken me years to create! Haha yeah I love drawing those cross-section pages, I’ll be sure to fit some more in in the future. I’m just taking a little break this weekend to refresh to avoid burnout, but I’ll be back on Monday with a new page, so stay tuned!

Ketch Traveler Severs

Hey man I’m amazed you’ve done as much as you have all on your own. Rest all you need bro this stuff is worth the wait

Erika Spooner

Your welcome! I think it would also get rid of any notion that the Imperium is some cartoonishly evil galactic empire with troopers who can hit everything except the target. I'm imagining a bunch of Bo sitting in a trench and then suddenly getting ambushed out of nowhere.

Ashley Blake

Fantastic work. A world setting that is original and deep. Just recommended it to my RPG group of fellow sci-fi addicts!

CallumStephenDiggle

Aw thanks so much, I really appreciate you spreading the word too! 🙌🏻
