The rabbit hole keeps getting deeper! 😂👍

Henning Gu

Thought-Lords sounds intriguing, as well as the glimpse we see.

gamerpro980

Wow the AM just suddenly know that deicide is going to betray him the moment before he gets into action. or the AM have to do something since he had know too much.

Miningation

how powerful is a thought-lord compared to an overfather?

Audumn

Interesting, i wonder how thought monitoring works.

Ryan

Holy shit the Thought Lords are cool

CallumStephenDiggle

They are sarcophagus looking ancient Over-Fathers in their final stage of life, they reside within the defensive membrane that surrounds the All-Mother’s inner sanctum. In their retirement they act as Sentry’s for the All-Mother.

CallumStephenDiggle

It was hinted at in the beginning of the flashback that the All-Mother was privy to Deicides thoughts. Remember when he got up from his throne and floated over to the window to look at the moon, the line is on that page. The All-Mother has no tolerance for dissent.

CallumStephenDiggle

They are roughly the same power-level so to speak, they are just more psionically adept. Two Thought-Lords are more than a match for a single Over-Father.

CallumStephenDiggle

It’s tied to the psionic network that connects minds like nodes in a trans-dimensional mesh. The greater the mind, the greater the connection to the psionic mesh. I’ll go into more detail on this in later issues.

CallumStephenDiggle

Thanks! Won’t be long before you get a proper look at them. For now though, If you go on my instagram and look at the very first post, you’ll see a very old design of one.

gamerpro980

oh that shaky text while he is looking at the window is the mark of her coming.

Meggie

Eager to see how Decide escapes!

Erika Spooner

Deicide implies that whatever's in the locust ship is a threat along with the thought-lords. Does that mean regular Imperium troopers have psionic powers other than telepathy? Also do overfathers, troopers or Imperium beings or technology need sustenance?

Davide

the last part of the page seems like a descent from the Heaven, incredible!

AllSeeingEye70

Out of curiosity how do psionic powers work in this universe? Given that it seems to be a thing that develops with super-intelligent beings?

CallumStephenDiggle

I have quite the fight planned out, I can’t wait to show you, there’s going to be lots of cool moments, along with twists and turns.

CallumStephenDiggle

The threat the imperium Locust poses is purely from its weapon systems. Imperium troopers/drones are basically automatons that are manipulated by psionic users within the Imperium like the Over-Fathers. Troopers/drones are like psionic receptor puppets, if they are disconnected for whatever reason, they can act with some degree of automated local intelligence to deal with the threats in front of them and complete whatever the last order was that they received, but little more than that. I’ll go into a depth about this in issue 7 when Deicide meets with the Tandraxian high council, he explains the mechanics of the imperium and how it works hierarchically. Yes, they require food and water.

CallumStephenDiggle

Thanks so much Davide, I’m happy with it. Although I don’t think there’s anything heavenly about the imperium 😅

Erika Spooner

The question is, why did the All Mother go with biological technology and human soldiers instead of machines? And I'm guessing the food is just gruel harvested from the imperium version of Nikocado Avocado.

Fruit hat

Can we please have a hint on how the thought lords work they look odd

Gabu

Ooo, I appreciate you reminding us this is a vacuum and explaining how he knew of the explosion visually. Good effect! (Reminds me a bit of the blind warrior Toph from Avatar the Last Airbender :)

Miningation

that’s just Deicide speaking

Gabu

Are you also wondering if they are an evolved human form like the troops and over fathers? Callum, how about a close up inside their shell, or a peeled-back look after some damage like the previous Overfather fight? That’d be cool!

bubba123

Question: where does the being on page 110 fit in the hierarchy? He looks like a post-human mixed with dog but stripped of his armor (like the unfortunate soldiers on page 95-96). Is he above a trooper but below Deicide? Is the armor that the 4-eyed drones wear also an outer shell and inside they have a human-ish base form, or have they been mutated beyond that?

CallumStephenDiggle

I’ll answer by sending you an extract from a bit of future dialogue that I’ve written up. Here it is: “How does it work? This Psionics thing?” “The world tree is both within and without.” “The world tree?” “Yes, that’s what your ancestors called it. Its roots reach down into death, its trunk through life and its branches up into the transcendent.” “Right… what has that got to do with Psionics?” “As I said, the world tree is both within your soul and is the structure of all that is, the structure that holds together all universes, all plains of reality. Whether that’s lateral, higher or lower … micro or macro. “ “I don’t-“ “When we use psionics, we are tapping into the power of the world tree, we are climbing its vast trunk like a squirrel, we are manipulating the fabric of our world. Each person has the tree within them, but some are more capable of utilising its power. The greater the mind, the greater the connection. We are more complicated than you could ever know, Losté, reality is beyond anything you could ever comprehend.” “I wish I never asked, I’m more confused now than ever before.” “Wait till you find out that every single elementary particle that makes up every quark and atom in this universe is actually the same particle existing at a different point in space-time. That time is just an illusion. That if you zoom all the way in to the Planck distance where all our theoretical models break down, you find yourself looking at the bigger picture, at the entirety of eternity. Everything is fractal, Losté. Infinity folds in on itself infinitely, reality is like an ouroboros, a serpent eating its own tail. Many species have tried to understand the true nature of reality and have failed, some dress it up in scientific language to stop themselves from going mad at the immensity and the strangeness of it all. The Tandrax have a model for reality called ‘the multitude of one’, they come close, but I’ve just come to accept that what is, is, and I find it beautiful.”

CallumStephenDiggle

Sure, they are sarcophagus looking ancient Over-Fathers in their final stage of life, they reside within the defensive membrane that surrounds the All-Mother’s inner sanctum. In their retirement they act as Sentry’s for the All-Mother. They are extremely adept in psionics from centuries of mastery. In reply to Gabu, I have just the thing planned 😉

CallumStephenDiggle

Aye I had to figure out some way of doing that and this seemed to work best in my mind. Haha yes that’s the main inspiration for that top panel.

CallumStephenDiggle

Ah yes that is what Deicides troopers look like under their fleshy environment suits. Yes he’s the same type of being as those troops that were destroyed by Oughrighadd on pages 95 & 96. That’s correct, yeah.

CallumStephenDiggle

You painted quite the picture there, Erika 😂 Well one answer is that I as the artist thought it was an interesting design choice and I really wanted to draw some bio-technology stuff. The other answer is because it’s easier to just let something grow than to construct and repair machines when they are damaged. The forces of the imperium are all genetically modified for accelerated growth, so once you’ve grown a new unit and they get injured, you just let them die and use the meat to feed other units in order for them to grow. the imperium have units that can convert dead matter like asteroids, rocks and comets into nutrients for other Imperium units to utilise.

Erika Spooner

I wonder if it would be possible for a psionic command to re-write the DNA of an imperium unit from a long distance away, perhaps that could be used to make a human who looks like an alien in order to spy on the Imperium's enemies or to make Imperium drones more powerful in order to deal with a species that's physically larger.

Miningation

if the Imperium is able to produce anything they need from any convenient matter, then it definitely seems plausible there may be 10s or 100s, perhaps even 1000s of spies among the conglomerate and other undiscovered species.

Erika Spooner

I'd imagine the All-Mother might use this by having a few spies reveal themselves causing a giant witch-hunt that eliminates numerous experienced conglomerate officers, the reasoning for that being that someone so good at defeating the enemy might be controlled by a super-intelligent AI. Then governments might start surveying their citizens for any signs of them being Imperium posthumans in disguise, that could cause rebellions, political turmoil and infighting. Even if they try to develop some sort of test to see if someone is a posthuman spy, the All-Mother could just change their biology.

Erika Spooner

And if a spy was discovered, they might use whatever genetic enhancements they have to go full John Wick and kill as many experienced conglomerate soldiers as possible and then escape to fight another day.

Erika Spooner

I guess thats the in-universe explanation as to how the government didn't manage to make psychics with LSD or something like that.
