Thanks for being so patient with me! I spent so long working out how to show the star engine constellatio, it was so tricky to figure our and I still don’t know if it looks right, but that’s a close as I could get it. Initially I wanted to get the star annnnd the constellation coming towards the viewer in one shot, but that proved to be too difficult. To do that would require a very wide panel over two pages (otherwise it would be too small).also, happy 250 pages! 🎉 That feels like a landmark to me.If you’ve just joined my Patreon and you’re wandering where to get started with reading Humanity Lost, start here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/issue-8-ongoing-91659721?I also just wanted to say a massive thank you to all of you for supporting my work, I wouldn’t be able to put the time into making Humanity Lost that I do without your patronage and Im just so grateful. Thank you!

I see what you mean about that depth perception. Beyond Excellence.👌

Davide

The art is incredible, the explanations are incredible, my ability to understand all the informations? Not so incredible, my bad😁

Isaac Young

Wow this is incredible, there’s literally thousands of city sized ships all gathered in one spot if this isn’t the most defended spot in the galaxy I’m not sure what is. Excellent work here can’t wait to see how this is expanded upon

I’m glad that I could explain with some clarity what my troubles were with this one haha I opted for looking down and across the constellation so that we could catch a glimpse of the engine plume from the stellar drive that was to show up in the very next panel. I just felt that made the most narrative sense and gives the reader sommmmme kind of special awareness. Thanks as always Nicholas!

CallumStephenDiggle

Oh no haha that’s alright, it’s a tough concept to get your head around to be honest. Thanks so much as always Davide, I hope you’re well!

Arets Paeglis

This is stellar-grade slappage! 🤘

CallumStephenDiggle

Indeed, There’s a reason so many species seek sanctuary around these Goliath's! We’ll be seeing a lot more of this environment and also we’ll be exploring a multi-species trade post station very soon where we’ll get lots of glimpses into alien cultures and even new alien species in the form of livestock and exotic pets. Thank you Isaac!

Charlie Horse

Someone's been watching lots of old Isaac Arthur videos about megastructures and stelar engineering, I see. I agree that this scene is very effective. The magnetic lines, the hot engine, millions of ships where before we thought even one was impressive... Love it.

It gud

Seriously no wonder this page took so long. I bet getting the reflection on each of those mirrors just right itself probably took hours.

Gabu

Happy 250! Losté be like “Prof Deicide, is there a quiz? when can I go to recess and flex my new muscles?” Haha Seriously tho, great visuals and clear explanation:)

CallumStephenDiggle

I used to watch a lot of Isaac Arthur too, dude goes deep. It means a lot Charlie, thank you!

CallumStephenDiggle

Thanks as always, Elijah! Oh you bet, every little detail on this page took hours. The biggest thing was laying out all of those Star-engines.

CallumStephenDiggle

Cheers Gabu!! Haha literally. I’m glad that you think so, thanks mate 🙏🏻

What are inside the massive spheres on the star engines? Do they contain entire landscapes like an O'neil cylinder? And how do the Tandraxians travel from one star engine to another without having to move the star engine? By the way, with the way the star engines are neatly positioned, could a powerful attack like a black hole or the beam from a Leviathan's giant laser smash through one star engine and fly into the next smashing through it and so on? That way, the Imperium would be able to damage multiple star engines with one attack. Imagine what would happen if they spun the laser around like a lighthouse, just erasing everything.

Incomplete Machine

Doubt the could get close enough given the capabilities of a single Star Engine

CallumStephenDiggle

The spheres are habitable modules of a scale that would boggle the mind, I’ll be showing that off at some point soon. You’re right, a kessler effect scenario is a potentiality. Any kind of mega structure like this is precarious by its very nature, but attacking it would be like kicking a hornets nest. The Star-engines would depart from their positions and annihilate the attacking force. It has not been shown yet, but the Tandrax rely on masses and masses of Von Neumann probes for the construction and maintenance of their civilisation. In combat situations these self replicating Von Neumann probes act as smaller fighter like craft. But what you’re saying is right, the imperium could certainly do a heck of a lot of damage if they got the first punch in. Oh and to answer your question about travel, Tandrax tend to stay put in their home Star-engine, but they can shuttle between star-engines on the Von Neumann probes that I mentioned.
