Thanks so much for being patient with me while I did everything that I needed to do.

The new edition of Humanity Lost is all set up and ready to publish, I’m just waiting for the proof copies to arrive so that I can check them and green light it for publication. I also had to finalise the interior & exterior designs for the station that we’re about to visit and that took a fair while, lots of technical drawing. The station is such a rich environment, with a hanging city strewn between two asteroids. I’ve tried to be quite realistic with the asteroids by having them be represented as quite loose clumps of rock that are prone to lose material. So to get around their flimsy nature, they’re wrapped in collection sacks similar to the one in the proposed asteroid capture mission. You’ll get a much better look at the station on the next page, it’s going to fill the whole thing!

So cool to see the mix of technologies being used in this universe. Some that appear to be "legacy" tech still have their use, like horses still being used today.

We are off to see the wizard!?

Thanks Justin! For sure, they’ve got to make use of everything they can get their hands on in this difficult situation. Sometimes however, a low-tech solution is the best option for the job. For example, a rope or a pencil are still extremely useful in space and they may even trump technologies that require a higher level of complexity in the manufacturing process.

How is the air kept breathable on stations and space ships? Do you think Deicide is going to try to give Loste psionic abilities so he and Belfast aren't at the mercy of whomever they are meeting with? Also, why are Over-Father's and other Imperium units still shaped like humans? Why not have a larger body with a bigger brain for more psionic power? Did AM purposefully limit them so they wouldn't be a huge threat if they rebelled?

Gabu

I like the flight path, after tracing it with my finger I was able to figure out what it means! Great, clear storytelling!

CallumStephenDiggle

Ah thanks Gabu, I’m glad it was understandable! Stuff like that is always hard to depict.

I’d imagine in a similar way to how we scrub carbon from the air on the ISS, but no doubt there are many more advanced ways to do it too. Like genetically modified algae like life forms etc… That’s a very good point about the brain size, but it sounds like you’ve come up with a pretty good answer yourself there. I don’t know that absolute brain size is necessarily a determining factor for intelligence and cognitive ability, there’s certainly a correlation there though. From my understanding, it has more to do with brain to body ratio and the distribution of cells in different sectors of the brain. An Over-Father’s cranium size is somewhat limited because they still need to be able to move around effectively. Honestly, the reason why a lot of the things look the way they do is because of the “rule of cool”. I basically just think it’s really cool that there are mass produced post-human automatons wearing living bug armour that deploy from biological drop-ships. What you’re saying is totally logical, but I am stuck with the designs and decisions that I made many years ago now though hahah and don’t get me wrong, I’m very fond and happy with those designs, but there are things that I could have done differently that would make more sense. It is what it is, I’m running with it and making it work the best that I can haha

Does the imperium have tanks of ground transports ? I know there are the tripods but do they also have an artillery equivalent, and is there a physical difference between warrior drones and the drones that would be ship crew or repair crew or something like that?

CallumStephenDiggle

They do indeed, we’re yet to see them though. The imperium have a unit to fill just about every niche that you can think of. There is a standard template drone that is extremely versatile across rolls, but yes there are also specialised drones that are specifically bred for roles as you said. Warrior post-humans crew ships for the most part because ships are primarily used as seeding devices for the creation of Womb-worlds, most of the crew are deployed as part of the invasion force. .

Pencils are not used in zero-G, actually. Conductive graphite dust flying around and getting sucked incide equipment - not a good idea. Capillary pens must be fine.

Gabu

Cool indeed!
