Book 5 of Worth the Candle is now out in ebook and audiobook form!

This is book is called "Sound and Silence" and largely covers the chapters where Juniper goes to mage college, along with all the fallout. It might be my favorite of the eight books, mostly because I'm a fan of mage college.

This does also mean a stub continuity chapter on RoyalRoad.

As always, reviews on Amazon are enormously appreciated. Since I know I'll get this question, the book is largely unchanged from the web serial version, though it has undergone copyediting to reduce the number of spelling and grammatical errors.

(Minor update on AGARES: it's taking longer than I thought because I wrote the ending of the first book and didn't like it, so am rewriting something that I hope works better. Hopefully out in the next week, but ideally I'd like to reread the whole thing twice.)

Who's the red dress elf looking person? Can't easily recall a character looking like that

Steven Zuber

I wasn’t sure either and it’s been a couple of years since I read WtC but maybe Val? I just want to register my guess, I’m also curious for the answer. :)

Never thought of val as elf looking... Though she is fallathar daughter... (?)

Surely it must be Valencia. She wears red and is albino due to being non-anima

Kevin Vermeer

I, too, had not really thought of Val as elf-looking. She was created by Fallatehr through soul magic, but for whatever reason I assumed that meant tampering with the soul of a human baby. I also didn't expect her to be nearly so gaunt, whether elven or human. I am confident, though, that's Val: Pale, red eyes (or purple with contacts), Red Armor of Arramor.

i was so worried when there were difficulties that we wouldnt see the series finished out. so happy to insta buy this and load it up on audible. Keep it up AW your works are really cool. I bet you're a crazy dungeon master too.

Dear Alexander, Is there any chance to get the "Worth the Candle" books as physical prints? It is one of my favorite books and as far as I can see your other books are available as print versions.

Darryl Greensill

Seconded. POD would be fine, as expensive as that is, even without wars and chaotic tariffs going on

While we all wait for AW to cook our next wholesome meal, a shoutout/recommendation for Zenith of Sorcery by Domagoj Kurmaic (AKA nobody103), also known for Mother of Learning. I was reading the latest chapter today and it occurred to me that here is another author on Alexander’s level for worldbuilding!

Getting them as print-on-demand through Amazon is in the works, I have contracted someone who's said they'll do it, all it requires is some files to be created. No timeline on this, aside from "eventually".

*SPOILERS*: I think it's Ermarator, his professor (sorry mary) at the Athenaeum who they suspect to be part of the mischief, but who turns out to just be possessed by Harold. She's some kind of shadow person, with only gray-tone skin and hair and who hides from the sun, but wears super bright clothing in sharp contrast.
