THIS IS MY FAVORITE SEASON!!

I haven't seen the rest of the show, I'm watching it for the first time with you, but, so we can talk about the "justifying racism because they oppressed us first" angle that some people take and discuss it with Avatar The Last Airbender in mind. Parallels as to my current understanding: 1. People with special abilities are seen as dangerous. - Eldians are told they're the spawn of the devil because they do or could become Titans, even though they don't have control over it. - In ATLA benders also have powerful abilities that could cause harm and some nations justify control because of that potential. Fire nation justifies conquest by arguing they are bringing order through power. So both worlds are showing how a society can say "we're doing this for safety" while using fear to justify oppression. 2. Fear based control systems - Eldians wear armbands, live in ghettos and are taught self hatred to keep them controlled. There's the obvious real world parallels with the Nazi times and Jewish ghettos, plus the honestly very interesting phenomenon that happened with Jewish people joining Hitler's army/turning in Jewish people because they wanted to be seen as "one of the good ones". You can see that still happening to this day also with oppressed groups. You've got the Eldians who are accepted as "honorary" members of Marlian society because they're willing to go against the other Eldians. - Fire nation erases air benders claiming they needed to be eliminated because they had the Avatar and thus could oppose their rule. Nonbenders in Korra show how fear of bending power can turn into extremism. 3. Morality isn't determined by abilities themselves. Harm comes from how power is used, how fear and propaganda reshape perception, and how trauma cycles repeat. - Some Eldians do terrible things, others fight for peace. - Soem benders become tyrants, others heal, protect or teach. You cannot judge an entire group by actions or POTENTIAL actions of a few. Fear doesn't justify oppression, it fuels it. I'll be curious how the series goes about potentially digging in deeper with these themes, very interested to see what the "solution" will be. Prediction from me will be either what you said--they want to kill all of the Marlians OR he will decide to kill all the Eldians who are not "one of the good ones". There may be a third option I'm not seeing.

The 2 at a time is amazing but still not enough 😭😭 so excited for the next couple episodes

Loved your reaction!

Adam Block

Reiner when he revealed himself to everyone: "we were just kids. What did we know?" Honestly Reiner is the protagonist of "the other side" pretty much. Probably why he has so many lives, like Eren

I always thought Willy and Magath were both disenfranchised by Marly. They almost hate it in fact. But feel there's no choice. Magath is doing it slowly. Trying to change things by getting Marly citizens to fight in the war.

Just wanna say you guys understand the story and small things so well. So many people get really confused around this point but you guys pretty much got it all down, very well done

That’s why this show is the best. It made everyone so conflicted and there’s no right side. I love it!
