Episode 8: Honestly this was the episode that got me hooked on this show. As it was for a lot of people. Seeing the teams coming together is beyond amazing. And then Red Like Roses II coming in. Ugh. I love this show. Episode 9+10: Don’t worry. The bunk beds only look unstable. And just speaking on the animation for a second. It never bothered me, per se. Like, obviously I always saw that it was a little janky, stilted in some places. But as you said, it's very endearing because you can see the effort and passion by the people making it. It started out as a group of like ten people and a budget of basically whatever change they could find in between the couch cushions. Going back to it now, after having seen how far this show has gone so far, it's still very charming. I'm glad you're enjoying it.

[Mosco] The fact that when Ruby cuts something it shoots out petals must mean something significant! [My Clair Obscur-addled brain] It's the GOMMAGE!!!

Magikltrevr

More RWBY Fun Facts: Weiss and Ruby are both left-handed.

David Johnson

There is more backstory and lore than you can comfortably imagine coming in this show. Hey, at Ruby waited until Weiss woke *up* before she blew the whistle... Sure, the bunkbeds are unsafe...but they regularly fight killer *monsters* as classroom projects. Their standards of "unsafe" are probably different from us...and their teenagers, so basically *have* no concept of self-preservation yet...;)

Justin Payne

Oh yeah basically the shattered moon is very important to the story. Once we meet Ruby's mom we find out she got launched into space and broke the moon. Craazzyy Thursday

Rachel Mae

Already wanting to go back and rewatch episodes? We got another one boys! Outside of the lore and the story and the characters the thing about RWBY that I truly love is how much it's progressed on a technical level - animation, writing, voice acting, all of it! - I think it's inspiring to see what was very much a low budget passion project grow so much and come into it's own.

Evil Queen

Fun fact Mosco: Casey Lee Williams does nearly all the singing for the show. She was 13 when they made the title song for Vol. 1. She also is Weiss’s singing voice.

WolfieOo

Psssh, the bunk beds are fine. They won't need those books anyways. lol. yeah, the animation that isn't pure fight is jank but it's endearing. Honestly, it lets the story really shine because it's not the animation that holds the attention, it's the story it's telling.

CrowOfAFeather

I'm so happy that you're loving this show so much! It really does make you want to binge it, I know I felt the same when I started! :D

Joe

I really love the fact that both Ruby and Weiss bead to work on there team work and connection. I’ve Sean so ment reactors just jump die Weiss throat.

Benjamin Sones

The bunkbeds ARE unsafe. In Volume 4, they are revealed to be the show's primary antagonist.

Symbolic Remnant

Yeah, in chess terms Light colored wood and Dark colored wood are still called "White" and "Black" respectively.

Rachel Mae

what's a few bumps and bruises from a bed collapsing on you when you have the ability to naturally heal them yourself with aura before breakfast? 😂

Violet Takuya

Apropos of nothing while preparing to watch this episode, I had the silly thought of maybe having the intro be 'gunslings and sword swings' since, y'know, 'it's also a gun.' I don't dislike Mosco's current intro but my brain had a think, and so thus I share.

Ryan

I wonder if there's a correlation between how popular any given series is on your channel and whether or not you can roll your Rs when saying the name of the show. The Owl House being the outlier. Given how hard you can roll you Rs on "RWBY" I expect this to be *very* popular. Well, that, and from an outside perspective, the FNDM seems to be as rabid as Earpers. ---- The moon is, in fact, made of cheese. The reason it is broken is they are actively mining it. Unfortunately, the big bad's plan is to make everyone lactose intolerant. ---- There's no foreshadowing in RWBY, at least not in the first few seasons. The rendering engine only supported two-shadowing.

Vex Valor

Those bunk beds are definitely more dangerous than the monsters they fight.

Bryan Forquer

Seeing Yang jump into a birds open mouth and shoot shotgun blasts down it's throat, will probably always be my favorite moment of this volume!

man-of-bvz1n3ss

There is a series of shorts called World of Remnant which establish a lot of the lore around things like kingdoms, Grimm, Dust, and Aura. I reccomend you check it out.

Wildgameseeker1

You are basically Nora in real life from how much of your reactions I've seen

Wildgameseeker1

Ozpins beginning statement and the moon get explained in volume 6 so Elijah is going to act a bit different soon because of the explanation because she will know

RetroBeastto

Such a great episode to start off on. Something that I love that you noticed is Jaune’s leadership and his ability to use his teams strengths. So excited to see you react to his growth as a character.

Arashi

Early volume(s) animation jank is absolutely a thing. When they shift to a new engine later, it comes back as a super grimm to eat the school. Thankfully, it's weak point is the bunkbeds team RWBY managed to put into it months earlier. The condition of the moon a /fascinating/ bit of lore in the series. It's also one you are a ways from learning. So toss out all the theories you can, write them down and disrepair as none are correct! *laughs evilly in front of storm clouds*

Hollyhock

the moon is shattered because Ruby's evil twin Duby (Dark Ruby) (with the white cape) got hungry and bit a chunk off it

Rachel Mae

The face journey I went on when I read “Two shadowing” 🤦😂 very good excellent joke 10/10

Phoenix_mercury

This sort of thing is why she stops reading comments 🤦 seriously? "X and Y get explained in *this specific season*" how about don't tell *blind* reactors when a specific thing/s is going to be answered

Jittercritter

Mosco’s theorizing is actually insane

Jittercritter

Considering the way aura seems to work you’re probably 100% right, actually. I doubt aura can remain fully functional while asleep but they subconsciously have it running when they’re fighting monsters.

Jittercritter

I was baffled when you said there was no foreshadowing, then I read the rest of it and just shook my head. Well played.

Alec-Zelda Alderson

People have noticed Weiss leaving the room after giving Ruby the coffee and it seems like the general fandom's head cannon is that she gave Ruby her coffee and is going to make another

bloodyshadow1

ep 8 is the one that tends to be the make it or break it for people. Seems like you're a make it

Diesel Marcus

The thing for me in the first few volumes is the dialogue, no shame on new show writers and whatnot but they definitely worked out a better balance later in volume 3 and beyond. Just a bit too cheesy/amatuerish in the beginning.

Isaiah Gonzales

You silly Mosco! Xs mean hugs and Os mean kisses!

cobaltbeau

mosco says "these kids" like she's babysitting them

Vince

Nora, my ADHD queen 💜😭😂 eta: I can’t believe Mosco already figured out that Ruby can turn into a giant grimm, damn!

Silverbell_TTV

Yeah, when I first discovered Rooster Teeth, they were just a youtube channel making videos in Halo with machinima, back in the Red vs Blue days. Then the show started to develop an actually interesting, slightly more serious story. Then Monty joined the team and suddenly there was actual animation. And then came RWBY. Coming from that, RWBY volume 1 was actually really impressive. A huge step upward. And like everyone says, it only got better from there. ^_^ In these early days they didn't even really have an animation department. It was pretty much just Monty at first. In fact, the big scene in the forest where they fight the Nevermore (giant bird) and the Deathstalker (giant scorpion), was pretty much Monty doing it all by himself, as far as the action animation went. I remember them saying in the commentaries how in the storyboards, there was just a big block there that said "Monty ACTION!" xD

Ferret

We're very spoiled these days with indie animated series, but it's worth remembering that before Monty, online indie animation was all machinima and Flash shorts. A lot of it very good to be sure, but RWBY as an original long-form indie animated series was the first of its kind, and especially in 3D animation.

Casey

I see what you did there 😂
