Gotta say, this one was a surprise! I was not expecting this level of emotional depth and maturity. And that it was so much more than a silly premise. Wish I'd prepped some gyoza for my initial watch. "Are they queer?" Well... the fanart community seems to think so. And Mira's VA as well. Frankly I ship all 3 of them with couch. They've earned it. I love the fact that they thought Golden, a song about being their best selves, was gonna be what won the day. Instead, a masterpiece about how they're flawed is what brings the people together. A simply wonderful message. You don't see the likes of Disney and Pixar "making an effort" with their animation because... they don't have to. Virtually anything they slap their name on will be a hit. They don't have to go through the effort of, well, everything that happened here. People are still gonna buy the ticket. I loved how so many tropes you predicted got subverted. There's a lot of predictable routes this movie could have gone, but they didn't, and they still produced a cohesive story. It's funny to me how quickly I drew a parallel to Huntrix and a certain Trio in a show you may be reacting to next if it wins the poll.

One nice touch is the Saja logo looks like a stylized lion...until the mane fades away there at the end, and then it's a demon face. Favorite Asian cuisine? Probably Thai. But of course it's going to entirely depend on where we're eating at the time.

Thirty seconds in and Mosco's already gushing about the cinematography. No wonder the reaction is twice the length of the film... Geek boys are the best, but it takes a goddamn crowbar to get us out of our shells. Favorite Asian cuisine? I usually go for Yakisoba.

There are some cool kpop culture references in this movie as well! Some of my favorites are: Their performance costumes are to kpop standard where their arms can be exposed or their legs but never both! When Rumi is falling in slow motion, they are making of fun of the dramatic editing in kdramas. Game shows are super silly and popular and many kpop groups participate to gain traction or promote new singles. The backup Saja boys are named after common stereotypes in boy bands.

so several things I would love to share: 1. The shaman women you see in the more ancient times are called Moodang, and serve as spiritual mediums for contacting spirits and warding off evil. 2. Rumi's sword is a Sa-in Geom (Four Tiger Sword), a ritualistic sword forged in the Hour of the tiger, in the day of the tiger, in the month of the tiger, on the year of the tiger. Tigers were seen as divine beasts, and was thought to channel the energy of the Tiger into a sword used in rituals to ward off evil. 3. Mira's Glaive is called a Wol-do, (moon blade), which are still widely used by moodang in ceremonies. 4. Saja boys is a Korean pun, as the word Saja is a homonym of both Lion and a psychopomp like the grim reaper in Korean. The black traditional outfit the Saja wear are the same outfit Juhsung Saja are described to be in. 5. While not explicitly named, a lot of the demons shown are those that appear in Korean folklore, like the Dokkaebi wielding clubs, the water dwelling Mulguishin (souls of drowned victims that become ghosts determined to share their fate by drowning others with them), and Mongdal Guishin (The faceless guishin).

If you like this movie about fighters beating back enemies w/ singing then you should check out the anime Symphogear! Basically in the near future, musical warriors wielding armor known as Symphogear fight against an alien race known as the Noise. Hibiki Tachibana, a girl who was rescued from the Noise two years ago by a Symphogear user named Kanade, who died in the ensuing battle, ends up inheriting her power to fight against the Noise.

I definitely think the boys being demons is at least partially why the girls swooned so easily; demons being able to charm people that wouldn’t otherwise fall for them/act like that is a SUPER common idea in pretty much any culture that has them. And god… Rumi… new comfort character ACQUIRED!! Her voice is absolutely ENCHANTING, those notes are insane especially that one at the end. I went into this not even really expecting much of a plot… holy crap I couldn’t have been more wrong, this was such a rich and inspired movie. I love Rumi so much. She’s so sweet and resilient, and seeing her so panicked and betrayed onstage and under that tree hurt SO MUCH. Celine when I catch you🫵

Really enjoyed this movie the first time and everytime after Ive watched it, its really excellent, though I do wish even one of the girls was canonically queer, the rest of the movie was so excellent I don't mind as much. The music was all an insta-add go my music library. The visuals were stunning, and a lot of the writing was EXCELLENT. Also, I was surprised you Didn't mention Vox Machina as far as having Heterosexual ships you like, but then I remembered none of those characters are Heterosexual (except maybe Grog, who is Aro & not in a relationship), so I take it back

This REALLY reminds me of LoL: KDA "Popstars" music video. Check it out if you havent already. About the relationships in cartoons: Disney's Tangled (the series) had a decent relationship between Rapunzel and Eugeen. It is really hard finding a show that actively makes a point of depicting an active relationship. And for asian cuisine I'd go with Korean.

(Pretty basic Thai 'Garlic chicken with vegetables' from any Thai takeout place) Really enjoyed the movie and was glad to see you were doing a reaction to it! I think partly because of the music in Jentry Chau I was up for this movie when I saw it first advertised, though I thought it was going to be a series for some reason. (That would've been cool, too) I think we don't get a lot of pyrric victories or characters sacrificing themselves because A, Western media sees that as 'kinda losing', and B, It makes it hard to sell merch for the dead guy. Neither of those mattered here, and I really enjoyed the end arc for Jinu, though if this gets a sequal it'd be cool if he was basically her sword/sidekick ghost guy now...

I'll admit, I'm not normally an emotional kind of guy, but in the final song, the "all the beauty in the broken glass" line? I started to tear up a bit. Powerful stuff. Also, my favorite Asian cuisine is probably Filipino Chicken Adobo, but sadly, a modified version of it my ex used to make for me. I've never quite found the same variation again, but it still remains one of my favorite foods ever.

the girls in the recording studio in the end credits are 1/3 of the girl group Twice which has been around for 10 years. they didnt have any speaking roles in the movie as far as I am aware of but they sang takedown in the end credits (the members who sang it in case you are curious as Jihyo, Jeongyeon, and Chaeyoung) and their most recent release Strategy played when the girls first entered their tower

I can't speak for Mosco, but I do think part of it is also where the character focus is. Jentry and Rumi are the main protags, where Michael is a supporting character and Kit and Jinu are conflicted antagonists. The relationship doesn't overwrite the girl's story arc because her story arc *is* the main plot.

I also would've liked a lot more with Celene and Rumi. Their final conversation in the movie is something so relatable to a lot of people, *especially* queer and neurodivergent people. That parent that does love you, does mean well, and does want what's best for you, but sees the part of you they don't like and not only rejects it but tries to make you reject and suppress it as well. Her influence is such a major part of Rumi's entire conflict and we barely see her.

What’s an original movie from Disney? They haven’t released anything recently except for live action remakes that are trash, unless you’re referring to Wish which had a very poor reception for various reasons.

actually between httyd 1 and 2 theres a canonical series called race to the edge that dives deeply into each of the characters including astrid. def recommend a watch.

Yes unfortunately, it’s making bank and getting critical acclaim despite the fact that it’s a shallow shot-for-shot remake of the original with an extra 20 minutes thrown in to slow down the pacing.

Ahhhh this was an absolute blast!! I watched Elijah's reaction a couple days ago and this movie has had me in a chokehold since! I loved it so much more than I was expecting. It was so fun and such a great story. The animation and character designs are beautiful. And the MUSIC I have not stopped listening to the album since. (Its bad i've listened at least 20 times ,XD) I also wish we would've had more backstory about Celine, especially her and Rumi's relationship bc that girl has TRAUMA. The fic writers have been going off and its been fantastic. I haven't watched the Nimona react yet but Im def gonna. As for Asian cuisine I'll admit my experience is very limited to American Chinese food.

I have a theory about the demons. The ones with the exaggerated features, horns, and such are one that were stolen- like the saja boy fans. The ones dressed in black like the Saja boys were the ones who sold their souls like Jinu did- and the other Saja boys who no doubt were human k-pop singers who most likely sold their souls to make it big. It would explain the difference in appearances of their demon forms.

So the version of Takedown in the credits and the clip at the end of the credits are a very popular K-pop band by the name of TWICE. They are not the ones that voiced the girls but they are an incredible band. I love their music.

It was Pixar and largely played it incredibly safe with the story it was telling. Did you know it was originally supposed to have a queer relationship in it, but got corporately neutered? It’s just a generic nothing story because the story it was originally meant to be telling got struck down

So happy to see your reaction to this! I knew I'd love this movie but it still surprised me with its complexity, character-wise, musically, and visually. Apparently this movie was originally 3 hours long but Netflix made them cut it to about 90 minutes. They've gotten renewed for a second movie, I can't wait to see where it goes! My favorite asian cuisine is Korean BBQ in general but specifically bulgogi, it's so good!

This is the best reaction to the movie I’ve watched. The emphasis is on the girls working together, Jinu is a good character and he definitely redeems himself, but Huntr/x and the girls working together is the point of the film. — and I’m a bit restricted in my multi-screen ability. for Hiccup and Astrid's relationship, Astrid's side is more explored in the TV shows. we get a lot more depth to her character there - all the other characters too, actually. furthermore, we find out how Stoick and Gobber got their dragons, a possible reason as to how Fishlegs ends up pursuing Ruffnut in the 2nd movie, and even more expansion to the world and the lore of HTTYD than the movies can ever fit. so like, the shows are a definite watch if you want to know more about the characters and the world.

Still hyperfixated on this movie. Wanted to share my favorite theory, it's wordy. Commoners weren't allowed into the Imperial Palace 400 years ago, unless they were musicians. Jinu never made a deal with Gwi-Ma, his own talents won him a position as an Imperial musician. His shame about leaving his family is what allowed Gwi-Ma to whisper to him, that was the source of his marks. Deeply traumatic experiences and depression can severely impact your memory. Over four hundred years of listening to the voice of doubt and fear (Gwi-Ma) he's convinced himself that he abandoned his family and that the shame spiral he was in is what caused all his problems. It's a deeply personal hell he's created for himself. Because he was good but not good enough to support his family in an era where that's not really feasible for musicians... He condemned himself to the underworld. The only hold Gwi-Ma had over him was how loudly he could whisper in Jinu's ear, and if he'd actually gone through with the plan, Gwi-Ma definitely wouldn't have honored the deal.

Interesting view point, I never really saw it like that? To me the story is more focused on say Steven or Hiccup is because they are the main character. The story revolves around them in particular. I never saw it to do with gender. In other shows where there’s been a female and male partniship and the main character is female then their partner often takes a back seat and is more support. To me it’s not about relationships or gender just how a main character is treated in the story compared to a supporting character
