I agree with Mosco about escapism. They were pressed for time they made the decision to do an episode that barely had any lines in it. Like i appreciate it for giving us a nice song but thats about it. I remember feeling incredibly disappointed with this episode when it aired. If you enjoyed it good for you but it definitely is not everyones cup of tea.

(How dare I speak bad about this show) but I totally agree that Escapism was a narrative momentum killer, and we get nothing except the SOS and wrapping up the Watermelon Steven society subplot out of the episode. Well, not true, we get the lovely voice of AJ Michalka singing one of my favorite songs from the show simply because I love AJ’s voice lol. I like the concept of the idea/spirit of Stevonnie expressing Steven and Connie’s desire to be free

While Escapism felt a little jarring, slowing down the momentum and whatnot, I still find myself coming back to the song. it's so beautiful with Grace and Zach backing AJ's vocals and the message is wonderful. Definitely one of my favorite SU songs of them all.

I agree with Mosco that with only 1 episode remaining, the equivalent of a filler episode is not engaging. I am mad broke as well, but I still subscribe to her even though I only watch SU as well. I 100% agree with her and even was about to skip through the episode due to how LITTLE was actually done here. I watched this episode on release on CN and I can tell you that waiting for this and not being able to skip through it (I didnt have a DVR or anything back in the day) really pissed me off. She even voiced how she felt about these in earlier episodes. I get that you disliked it and I personally think the ENTIRE episode should have been skipped in the reactions. However the way you voiced it really sounds like you think she OWEs you more because you pay for the behind the scenes and early content. You are paying for EARLY access to full and uncut REACTIONS, it really isn't her fault that people like you and me watch only 1 of her multiple shows. I am not trying to put you down or anything I promise! I just wanted to give you my perspective on what we pay for and what our expectations should be. (I help start Vtubers and reactors get started so I have widespread info but you might have the same or more, just wanted to give you my background) She also doesn't read the comments here anymore due to people trying spoil stuff and all but saying what happens in the end (RWBY broke the mod team so she doesn't read these anymore due to it) If you honestly feel that bad about it, I am sure that you can contact a mod in the support section of her discord and mitigation can be had.

The Mayor Dewey and Rocknaldo type episodes isn't just that it is filler, it is plain annoying. It is more their placement in the pacing. It leaves SOOOooo much to be desired TBH. But not every reactor has to like every show we like. I would rather her be honest than force a smile. HOWEVER, I do like adventure time a lot and feel that any "filler" type episodes are actually placed well enough or at least fun enough. The ones in SU just kind of....hit wrong, lol.

I’m glad you said the part about getting her story in reverse. The biggest thing people forget is that we’re going backwards, that pink diamond didn’t start getting character development and growing as a person until she became Rose. Her arc of redemption and change was over for the most part by the time Steven was born. Seeing who she was as pink diamond is like watching Zuko from ATLA in reverse. She was selfish and impulsive and angry while growing up in a controlling and emotionally neglectful home where throwing a tantrum and causing damage was the only way to get attention, she wanted to be respected but kept getting pushed aside until she started shouting. Yellows line about “why don’t you act like it?” In the dream where she says she just as important is telling- because when she behaved perfectly she was ignored or left alone, treated like an afterthought. It doesn’t make up for the mistakes and bad choices, but it’s not like she didn’t learn and change and become a better person. She just couldn’t do that under the other diamonds.

If you JUST paid then you still are paying for the final episode and the movie since it comes out shortly after. If you paid a bit ago then you watched her last big reaction AND/OR the one before. It isn't misleading, in any regard. It is literally Early and Uncut footage of her reactions. She says that exact thing in almost every episode. Like I said, if you feel slighted, reach out where something can be done in a timely manner. Just remember I PERSONALLY spent money on literally the same amount of content since I also only watch SU on her channel.

Escapism isn't the best episode for sure. I do appreciate it more when you analyze the show through the lens of Steven being a Jesus allegory. Gem war=war in heaven, Pink Diamond becoming human, sacrificing herself to save humanity, being both fully God and fully human, etc etc. The watermelon Stevens fit in as an interesting metaphor for Christianity. Before anyone says it, of course I understand the metaphor doesn't fit perfectly, I don't think any metaphors are ever perfect, but it at least explains WHY these watermelon episodes exist.

I'd rather of skipped the multiple mayor dewey or Ronaldo episodes but she pushed through them. Or majority of early season 1 or any of the Lars centred episodes before his kinda death. So why not just push through watermelon steven. I get the frustration of putting a "filler" episode in the middle of such a strong story arc but it all ties together because without this episode Bismuth and the others wouldn't know Steven needed there help. Tbh if we really wanted to argue i'd say we could've skipped both these episodes and focused on the finale. Because even the ball episode to me was considered "filler" but that's just me.

Escapism i do like as an ep on rewatch, it would work a lot more if it wasn't at the very end before the finale but ye for what it was for it didn't need to be that long, contacting bismuth could of been a 10 second physic convo and the rest could of been in the tower and dealing with the main plot.

Lol, like a lot of filler episodes, (that you've hated), they are more about subtle theming and giving breathing room. Garnet's Universe and Uncle Granpa have so many bits of foreshadowing it's awesome lol. This is also the last time we get an update on Watermelon Island, potentially? So just wrapping that thread up really quickly, for the (admittedly) few people who wanted it. It also just allows time to pass and set up some things for the next episode lol. I understand the need for a breather, but I agree with Mosco - I'm just not a fan of the watermelon episodes. Instead, spending a few minutes with Steven looking around his home, delivering the message, and then returning to Connie to talk with her would have, to me, felt like a more satisfying breather. Quiet, contemplative, but also relevant to the current storyline.

They had to do what they could to actually speak with white diamond, which meant making sacrifices. The diamonds are supremely powerful beings, and it doesn't take a whole lot to piss them off, which could lead to not just poofing, but shattering if they're angry enough. If Steven protested too much about it, they could lose the chance of talking to white - even if it didn't end up working anyway, it's not as if they could've predicted that.

ehh, I like the movie, it's fillery in the way anything titled "blank: THE MOVIE" always is, but the songs are great and it has some really funny moments. It sure is a good thing your job isn't, you know, to react to things. I sure am glad I came here to watch you skip an episode. Look, I get it. When you get something that you weren't expecting, you're the type of person to just tune out. Typical shounen tropes dictate that being this close to a finale means that it should be getting more action-y. But if you accept what this episode is, you'll understand what this episode is doing. IF you don't SKIP THE ENTIRE PLOT OF THE EPISODE. Escapism does what every watermelon episode does, make religious and/or social commentary! Rebecca Sugar knew she didn't have time, and more than anything, this final season was about the message. And rather than feed us a simple setup episode for the finale, she snuck in one last allegory in the guise of a simple filler. It's certainly not a complex message, it's about religious factions getting so twisted up that they lose sight of who they were originally following. It's about religious extremism. It's a message that the world needs to hear, but too many people tune it out when cartoons try to get heavy-handed with their messages. And yes, this was all in this short little episode that you skipped. If you bothered, you might've been able to read into these messages by yourself and demonstrate those keen observation skills I know you have instead of having someone like me give you the cliff notes. Look, I get that you're excited for plot, and many were disappointed with this episode because it wasn't their speed. I can understand that, it's less an enjoyable episode and more an episode that needed to be heard, for the people who take the time to appreciate a good message. I don't mean this to come across as being mad. I'm not mad, just a little disappointed. Disappointed because I know if you had tried, you might have gotten a lot out of this episode all on your own. You're really smart, and you pick up on things really fast, even if you don't think so. That's one of the reasons you're one of my favorite reaction youtubers.

What you missed was the war between the different factions of the steven watermelons. Which can be be very powerful. And the next skip you did was Steven's travel across the ocean to make it home. I understand you skipping this over as it was mostly nonverbal this episode. I am glad you didn't skip over the entirety of the escapism song. Although I will say, people pay to watch you react to the entirety of the show. You skipping some boring parts should not have the impact on your patreon community as it has. I just hope you don't split up the finale 😅😅😅

I'm sorry, I do have to be honest with you. And I apologize in advance if I make any mistakes doing so, because English is not my first language. It's okay if you may not like some episodes and favor others more.. but skipping parts of the episodes can make it confusing for the viewer who's watching your content. Personally, I find it a bit unprofessional and chaotic because you could be missing important parts of the story. It can also affect the viewer's experience watching your reactions as in.. they might want to skip some reactions too. Especially when they're new to your Patreon. Overall, I think you're a very good reactor and you notice small details very quick. That's why I love watching your content. That's probably the reason I didn't expect this to happen. DUUUUUUDE!! mosco, the skips were so effing valid, trust me. i was like... "what is happening.." when i first saw escapism. i understand what they were going for to explain how steven traveled back to get home and get backup, but liiiikeee... i feel like there was more potential for escapism. don't get me wrong, i love watermelon steven and their little village, but this was kind of an odd place to put him near the literal end of steven universe. i even glaze over this episode when i rewatch the series and get on my phone, or even skip it because it was a little.. ehh. so, don't even worry about it, this was completely valid.

I get skipping through most of the episode, but I wish you had seen how he got away from the shark. It was adorable! Just not really relavent to the situation going on in the show.

I finally was able to watch this. I thought based on everything this reaction would be a hard watch, and come to see how much she skipped and it’s barely any? I feel like her reaction was better than mine to this episode lol. I was worried she was gonna miss a ton of it or something by the comments and seeing the poll go up, and I thought I would think she should just watch the episode in 2x speed. I still think that might be a good idea for sometimes but with this idk. It would’ve been annoying and high pitched and she only missed like a couple minutes of nothing this way. And I agree with every complaint she made and she could’ve complained more and I wouldn’t mind at all so bcs it didn’t have major dewy episode vibes. And please never stop “complaining”, as long as it’s spread out (so you don’t miss everything), it’s honest reaction and what I’m here for. Edit: I agree with all complaints she made but not the insult to the episode where she called it total bull shit or whatever. That was uncalled for

I do hate the episode for its placement (and I think it’s a bit boring personally) but the episode itself isn’t “bullshit”. It was very well done and quite beautiful on its own. I think it was nominated or won awards. But I get it’s your opinion ! I feel like it might just be strong wording, especially when you didn’t get the full story of the episode as you skipped a lot (which I’m glad you did) I feel like maybe that leaves you not informed enough to call the whole episode bs 😭 that’s just my opinion tho🫶

Ah, so that's what the poll and the hubbub was about. No worries, rant all you want, and don't force yourself to watch something you aren't enjoying. This is the first time I'm seeing these (I stopped a few episodes in my solo watch, but your reactions have helped keep me interested) and I would've been bored out of my mind with the silent watermelon episode too. Go for it. You showed enough we can keep up on things, and if people want to they can watch the episode THEMSELVES! :)

Yeah I agree tho I think they did need to do something to have Steven send a message. It could have been 2 minutes of watermelon Steven tho. This episode is almost better separate from the show. As almost a spin off episode. I’ve grown to appreciate it on its own.

Escapism is one of my fav episodes even though it is filler. I think the show was intentionally attempting to slow down the pace and I can appreciate that. But the real reason is that the song came to me when I needed it. It’s still in my shower playlist years later

I paid to watch a reaction in full to one of my all time favorite shows and this is the attitude toward it? I'm glad I found the reactions well after she was done with the show because I will not be continuing my subscription after I'm done watching, which won't take an entire billing cycle. I refrained from saying anything earlier when she was constantly complaining about Lars still being in space with Steven not visiting him when Steven literally had no way to do so. I didn't feel it was worth my time to comment even if her attitude about it all irked me. I just can't keep letting this go. If she wants to react to something with no filler, she can go find some magical series where the writers wrote and storyboarded everything in advance and always had time to implement every idea they ever wanted to include in it. I'm pretty sure that doesn't exist though, so good luck with that.

thoughts on something from a year later- but while i understand beings honest about not enjoying something, i do think it’s bad faith to skip episodes in a show were there is no true “filler.” this is an emotion and subtext driven show and you choose to skip through the emotion and subtext and it kinda just makes it depressing to watch this reaction series when seeing people react to those things is the only reason i watch SU reactions :( Not to mention you can say you dislike an episode and not have it be the only thing you say for the whole episode. You can meaningfully interact with media even if you don’t like it. You can thinking deeper about the themes and give notes on them even if you don’t think it’s necessary to the storyline. Obviously this is a year old so it doesn’t really matter. But it actively affects the enjoyability of your reactions having to sit through you being willing to ignore parts of the story just because you don’t like them as much as the other stuff. And makes me kinda really concerned for watching you react to other things like TOH or Shera, as those are both semi similar in pacing choices at times (tho tbh SU feels more forgivable than some of the pacing choices made in Shera at times xD). Idk i just feel like if your career is based around making reaction videos for the enjoyment of the audience and to interact with themes of media in a deeper, more thought-out sense, then you should be able to still interact with an episode you don’t enjoy as much without making the whole reaction “i hate this” or just skipping it over entirely. idk this is just my most expensive subscription i allow myself in my time of being very poor and it such when i go to enjoy it and it ends up being an unenjoyable experience solely because you dislike a singular episode.
