Okay so on the back of the most recent Steven Universe episode where I skipped most of the episode as I wasn't enjoying it, but recieved some backlash I am now putting the question out to you guys.

Legally for copyright, I must PAUSE reactions and react to them. I must put INSIGHT into them. And I absolutely WILL NOT sit there and PRETEND to like episodes I do not like. So which would you rather I did going forward, for episodes I'm not enjoying?

Keep in mind these are the ONLY two options. As I must provide some form of commentary and pausing otherwise I'll have to take the footage away for the full episode, as I won't legally be able to show it if I'm just sitting through it remaining silent.

William Timmins

I voted for the first. You DID pay attention and back up when things seemed to shift, which is good, and you caught the important points of it.

the ole dick twist

I think watching off camera is the best option, escapism is actually important (at least the ending) and has a couple cool moments

jessie H

Skip them. Reactions should be fun. And aside from the song Escapism is skippable I usually skip it once it gets to the watermelon stevens

gemi.inv

Don't watch things you don't want to watch. It's your job, and you're your own boss. The common fandom consensus is that Escapism kinda sucks anyways

Carmilla carmine

I was worried you meant like the latest ones you reacted too aka alone together and etc I was like "Nooo,But their good I swear-" also I agree,I have been watching steven universe sense the first day the first episode ever aired where I am,And I even skip some still there's ALOT of filler,Don't worry queen you can skip the boring stuff!!

Deanie

Your reaction was to skip most of the episode. No offence but if someone doesn't like that then they can stop being a patreon member

SammyDaPonk

I’d rather you skip, because I’d rather you have a good overall experience. Sometimes it’s just needed.

Matrim

I mean, I guess it depends on what you mean by complaining. If you are talking through what bothers you, or putting insight into what you’re complaining about, that’s one thing. But if you’re just going “fuck this, this sucks” over and over for the whole episode, there’s not much value in that. In general I’d prefer you not skipping, particularly since we’re in the final stretch.

Kitsune Kokoro

SU isn't a show I'm really into, so take this with a grain of salt, but I don't think you should feel obligated to sit through something you're not enjoying. The only caveat is that I recognize there may be important plot points raised in a skipped episode that you'd want to be aware of for when they come up in future episodes, but I don't know the best way for you to get a summary of stuff like that without running a high risk of spoilers for what's to come.

Dillon Hansel

I am an incredibly firm believer in not wasting what time you have in life on things you're not enjoying, especially if it's media such as this where the entire purpose is to be entertained and have fun.

largo778 .

I'm from a family that complains about everything so I'm bias, but I say react and complain A LOT (even for just one or two episodes just to showcase why you reacting to them is a bad thing)

Herc the Human

I haven't seen the reaction yet. By skipping do you mean hitting the "skip 10 seconds" button? Cause I would assume it's also possible to just watch it quietly but cut that part out of the video you upload? You still should avoid skipping things on future reactions on the chance you miss an important detail. For copyright, just edit it out if you're quiet. That's my opinion at least.

Mal.aise

Personally, I would prefer to see you watch them and hear you complain if u wanna complain, just cuz there might be like, one singular important detail or scene or something in an episode that’s otherwise a whole ass drag, but I also don’t mind you skipping certain parts of them if you want to, like, in escapism, I personally didn’t mind you skipping a majority of it cuz you still watched all of the important parts of the episode, I just thought it was kinda funny hehe, imo it would only be negative to do that if you missed some sort of crucial detail or scene or something <3 though I would still prefer the entire reactions whether or not you’re “complaining”, cuz I don’t mind it one bit, but if you’re not interested, you’re not interested, it is *your* channel :]

cipher

Just skip them. There are a number of episodes in any number of shows that are hard skips for me. This is one of them. I have no clue why she wasted one of here 9 15 minute slots with that.

Wee Lass Reacts

A very fair assessmnt, don't worry I can read a synopsis of the episodes. And I usually only skip forward 10 seconds at a time, so if it feels like something important is happening, I stop skipping and pay attention again. I also have an excellent team of mods and admins who can recap major plot points too.

Deniolia

while i really get you being frustrated with the episode due to when it was happening, and you feeling like there are more important things to focus on, I also want to say escapism does have some genuinely interesting bits about how the watermelon people have developed, and i think its actually really cool with the wordless storytelling. you dont have to, but i would like it if you could come back to this episode and watch it outside of the wider context of the show.

bookinit

If your reaction is to skip it... then skip it. Personally I am paying for patreon to see your reaction. Not for you to hype up my Fandom. If you aren't enjoying something then dont watch it. Pure and simple. We appreciate the effort you are putting forth❤️ I will say though... very selfishly... I loved your mayor Dewey episode... becuase I had the EXACT same amount of rage to the filler episodes🤣

Kallows

I mean I’d rather hear you complain over skipping stuff and not reacting, reactions include positive and negative reactions.

Rachel Mae

I want honest opinions and thoughts and if “sucks so bad I don’t want to watch it” is your honest opinion then that’s exactly what I’m here for.

Spadez

Here is my opinion. For episodes such as SU that are 15 minutes long, when less than HALF of the episode is viewed or even a quarter of it and you skip through it, add another episode if possible. Reasoning. For shows like SU it is easier to see if it is pointless. They are 15 minutes and only viewing about 5 minutes of it due to how obvious the filler, include another episode. HOWEVER this is hard to do because of scheduling and time constraints, etc. I could say have a mod make a list ahead of time of filler episodes and skip it or put it to vote....but that is a lot of control for viewers to have over your show reactions....This is the hardest part for reactions channels is finding the best ways to deal with things that pop up like this. In the end I think you did the right thing. We got to see our reactor actually being HONEST about how she feels about it.

Kitsune Kokoro

Oh cool, I think that's a good approach! It makes me sad that people got upset over it.

Hans Frisky Andherson

If you need to skip some of the show cause you find it agonizing, then fine. However, I'm on patreon cause I enjoy your reactions and opinions. Please don't cut back on those.

Kirara

I say skip them if they’re outright bad/boring like Escapism, I’m sorry but as someone who watched SU since 2014, that episode almost made me cry from how disappointing and awful it was, I was a fan for YEARS while it’s airing, I saw Rebecca singing a demo version of the song live years before they revealed it in the show… ONLY FOR IT TO BE USED IN ONE OF THE MOST FRUSTRATING EPISODES IN THE SHOW, like why?? I get that we had to have Steven’s POV and that we couldn’t get anything in regards to the diamonds in that ep but OMG I DID NOT CARE ABOUT THE WATERMELONS, I wanted to see more lars/bismuth/sadie/literally any character in the show, but nope, we had to have one ep dedicated to the freaking watermelons which I don’t think there’s a single reactor who enjoyed watching the ep btw 😭

Anonymous

I have loved your content for many years as I enjoy seeing people enjoy themselves and vicariously relive the happiness I felt watching the show for the first time. Having you suffer doesn't feel good to either you or me 🥰

Kitsune Kokoro

And I've watched enough of your reactions to be confident you wouldn't skip stuff casually or frequently.

Kyle Murrell

Damned if you do damned if you don't kind of situation. People seem to complain either way. Personally i feel like you saying im not enjoying this and skipping is a reaction. Its just not the one people wanted and thats on them. I would much rather you just skip something you aren't enjoying thatn watch you be miserable.

Beastie

Wait I'm confused. When did you skip, or is this just for your YouTube viewers? Also love your reactions and I think you should do what makes you happy. I'm just along for the ride

midge314

Personally I enjoy your commentary even if it’s negative. But with Escapism and the specific parts you skipped, if you’re not interested in the watermelons then it’ll just be boring and that probably won’t lead to good commentary. So my take is skip something if it’s just outright boring and won’t lead to entertaining commentary, but if you’re not enjoying something for another reason I’d be entertained as to hearing you talk about why.

Blaze

well, obviously you shouldn't do anything you don't want to. so if you rather skip, than skip. i will say, reactors complaining about a show/episode they're watching can be its own entertainment, so up to you whether you want to provide this sort of entertainment. there will likely be interest for it. but obviously you should prioritize yourself above your audience.

Deniolia

she skipped pretty much the majority of the Escapism episode in steven universe, since it kinda took a side plot to the much more pressing main plot at a very weird time

Kirara

sorry for the coke rant but Mosco you were so real in the way you reacted to the episode, I genuinely felt seen by your reaction

ThePirateJaz

Although I haven't gotten around to watching the reaction yet, I would honestly prefer a full reaction, with you complaining as much as you'd like. Personally, I come to the patreon for the full, uncut reactions. I don't much care for how much earlier I get the reactions, because they come at relatively the same pace. I'm here because I'm interested in you, your opinion on things, the way you react, and your experience. If you're not enjoying a particular episode, (although I don't *want* you to be upset) I want to see the entirety of you not enjoying it, why you don't enjoy it, and frustratedly make jokes or talk about why you don't enjoy it. I have no issue with you talking about how stupid you feel an episode is every two seconds along the way. Like, in the case of Mayor Dewey, you kept bringing up LARS IS IN SPACE! And you wanted that addressed, and it was rather cathartic and validating for me. Edit: After watching the reaction, I can't say I have much of a preference either way. (Without spoiling anything) As far as I remember, I don't think there really are any episodes like that left. Most annoying "filler" that I would consider to be 'filler' is in season 1, with few exceptions for anything related to Ronaldo, so I don't think you'll much have to worry about it.

AbsurdToastling

Complain. We need more complainers tbh. Keep us grounded. Keep the reaction scene genuine, and *feeling* genuine. I think fans are a little too entitled when it comes to reactors, it's not about them, it's about the reactor. Some people want to vicariously relive their first watch and get mad when reactors don't react how they did the first time. That's their damage. I say watch it and complain and especially critique. Live up to the transformative content label and dissect why you think it sucks, I think that'd be a lot of fun, personally. If you want a compromise solution, I say skip it on YouTube but keep it up on Patreon. On YouTube leave a message like "I hated this episode and y'all are too snippy about me being honest about that so you're just not getting it unless you pay me for it". At least in that case, if they do all that and come here to get mad, you're still getting paid for it. Equivalent exchange, I say.

Kitsune Kokoro

I think that's a good distinction to make.

BlushAndQueer

I always skipped the watermelon episode lmao

BeastialMoon

I'll be honest I skip mayor deweys eps too. So don't feel bad about that.

Wee Lass Reacts

Of for sure, when I say skip the episodes I mean sit and press the "fast forward 10 seconds at a time" until I find something that genuinely starts actually HAPPENING in the episodes that I'm excited for. Like I watched the beginning AND the end of that episode, everything in the middle for me felt like a GIANT waste of time.

Tsu Aloe Vera

I would like an honest reaction which i know will probably be the less desired option but Steven Universe isn't without flaw that doesn't make it a bad show. It comes off as dishonest and to me isn't a fair genuine reaction. I would rather you run the episode through then be forced to skip it for the sake of content, but we do tend to agree when an episode is a waste of time, and I to am the kind of person to fast forward through undesired content. It is no secret that Steven Universe's pacing has some undesired lulls which depending on who in the community you ask was due to a host of reasons I do not have the time to verify with my own research, but it doesn't really matter who is at fault, series have bad episodes, I never cared for the second episode of the Owl House, nor the body swap in season one, but The Owl house is still my favorite show so far in my life, dethroning none other than Steven Universe. TLDR: Be honest if you can, but I understand if the community prefers the later.

Wee Lass Reacts

I never cut up a Patreon video because you guys pay for the full raw uncut reactions. Only time I do it is if I accidentally dox myself if someone calls me says my full name LOL As for this, yes, the skipping 10 seconds at a time until something good happens is what I mean

Martin E Melcher

Complain while you skip, I say. If youre not enjoying something, dont suffer for the sake of content or "fans" trying to tell you how to do this. Especially since these next episodes will lead into the finally and then "Future."

Annieme

I appreciate the pausing tbh. I love the commentary. It’s interesting this poll is so close. Personally, I’m ok with either but for *your* enjoyment, I think skipping slowly ahead might be better. Just my opinion tho

React Eons

Whatever you do people will complain, so just do whatever you want. I’d enjoy the reactions either way.

Ashley Silver

While I am normally all for letting a story play out, if it's a situation where it's a universally panned episode of a show that's episodic instead of serialized I don't see the problem with it.

React Eons

Literally this omg, if she hadn’t skipped it then I would have skipped her reaction lmao (if she was just silent of course)

Laiel Shepherd

I appreciated how you skipped the parts you didn't care about this time, because with "Dewey Wins" there wasn't much of your usual interesting commentary, just a lot of frustration and repeating yourself about how much you didn't like it. Also not sure which would be better for your mental health, but I can easily understand not wanting to waste your time and spoons.

Pumpkin

If you don’t like the episode then skip it I personally don’t see a problem but some people will get pissy ether way

marauderluverz (Luci)

I enjoy the honest reaction with the complaints but I think skipping ahead will make it easier for you to enjoy/get through it. Escapism isnt an episode I usually watch all the way through, I skip exactly how you did. Keep doing whatever works for you.

Albedo12

If your reaction is to skip, then skip. I'm a completionist so get a bit jittery when you skip stuff, but that's my problem, not yours.

K

Honestly, do whichever you prefer - both are perfectly honest reactions. Whatever you feel is valid as it’s YOUR reaction. I’m tired of people trying to curate reactors’ reactions to align with their opinion and mindset. People are supposed to have opinions - opinions are not meant to be the same otherwise the world and communication would be boring and monotonous. Everyone just needs to learn how to express “I feel…/I believe…” statements instead of trying to tell you how to feel. Sorry for my rant but also… grrr.

Broody Gaming

I don’t care haha you do you fam. To me even the filler episodes have merit but mostly in hind sight. I thought they were weird and boring too. But on rewatch it hits different and that’s prob why ppl lash out. But everyone is lying to themselves if they say they liked the weird slow eps the first time. I still can’t stand uncle grandpa 😂

Ant

obviously I want you to be able to skip what you don’t like, as long as it’s not often then I’m fine with skipping boring episodes if ur not gonna enjoy them anyway

Via dot 124

I'd rather ya just skip, I'm the exact same with those moments lmao, it's more enjoyable overall if we don't gotta see the raging like from that mayor Dewey episode

astroghost

i personally like hearing all your opinions even when you don't like something. i want your reactions to be authentic and true to you. i would also hate to see anything cut from the show that doesn't need to be for copyright reasons 😭

Ace_n_Anxious

I would implore you to take another look at this episode and how Steven's actions are so different from the beginning of his story. This episode was an important step for Steven's character arc. In the past, if he came across people who were fighting, he would put aside his own needs to help them find peace. In this episode he prioritizes his needs, specifically his need to escape. If you really don't want to watch it again, at least read this review of the episode to see what it's about. https://stevenuniversallyreviews.tumblr.com/post/625179354967719936/episode-156-escapism

Gone

This seems to be a bit of a subject, so I’m gonna try to keep this keel nice and even. Personally, I prefer the full reaction. I don’t mind the negativity, honestly. Here’s where I’m butting up against the content as presented so far. I say this trying to not be combative or confrontational. What I don’t enjoy are when the negativity comes in the form of just “I don’t care, I don’t care, I don’t care,” or “I wanna say something negative but I won’t cause the fans are gonna have a bad response.” The former doesn’t feel like it’s doing anything BUT being negative, and the latter feels… passive aggressive isn’t exactly what I’m looking for, but it might not be far off. If the material you’re reacting to is something you straight up don’t care about and you find yourself unable to do anything about it other than grouse about not caring, then in that case I’d say you may as well skip it. On the other hand, you could always riff on what you’re watching. I’m not trying to give notes, I’m just a viewer. But if you’re not enjoying it, you could make jokes about it or even a good natured kvetching. If that’s not how you engage with media you’re not enjoying and doing anything other than how you reacted to Dewey Wind would feel forced or inauthentic to you, then I’d say skipping is fine. But speaking for myself, I’d say the negativity isn’t an issue so much as the shape the negativity can take.

Mal.aise

Yeah that makes complete sense ! I noticed while watching your reaction that you were only skipping 10 secs at a time and after reading the comments beforehand I was confused why people were so upset and were saying you skipped the whole ep when it was just some of it, and u skipped it in a way where u could see that what you were skipping was skippable, I think that’s the best way to do it :] and you’re right, that episode IS a giant waste of time lol, u watched everything that was important and then some 😭 I like the premise but it feels like a season 3 or 4 episode imo, took up time that could have been used for much more interesting endgame plot development, I think it would have been cool to replace that episode with one final Lars episode, personally

Mal.aise

I agree with this lol I also really liked the mayor Dewey episode reaction

Warren

i like the skipping ahead 10 seconds way you did it just in case something important is mixed in with the ep, Also with Escapism not much of it is reaction worthy so i get skipping a head on it. its not a masterpiece of an ep but might be worth watching in full during a re watch when their is not as much want for lore and major plot points, but idk you do you

Gone

Sorry for being long-winded. I wouldn’t presume to weigh in if the post/poll hadn’t been made, but I try to be thorough and constructive if input is asked for.

KimSea009

I dislike the idea of skipping through them, but the other option doesn't seem fun? I mean maybe it is fun for you to do so, I don't know, but the other option seems like it'd be extremely good for engagement at least, one concern I have is that is if skipping is on the table, how much of steven universe would you have skipped? would you have dropped the show by now? but also if you talk about how much you dislike it, you'll probably miss as much as skipping it, so I guess that means skipping it is the better option? (for this episode in particular, it's a break episode from the non-stop high stress situations before we go right back into the most intense episode) anyway, good luck with project t, love seeing your reactions to things ^.^

The Baker's Ruview

Personally i prefer that you'd watch and vent your complaints/frustrations. As it feels more realistic. When watching a show on tv majority of time theres not a skip option and we have to power through the episode regardless how it makes us feel. It's the raw emotion that joy sadness anger disgust fear that keeps us engaged and wanting to watch along with you to see your reaction. Take that away just because you lost intrest or was bored. Then whats the point of uploading to patreon when you can just edit it all out when uploading to youtube.

Mechadon

Are you cool with fans dictating what you skip? Not giving it a chance? What if a paying Patreon is looking forward to a specific reaction; but you skip it because some mouth-breathing gatekeeper arrogantly declares it "universaly disliked". You don't know what you are skipping. And promising to complain throughout an episode regardless is arrogant and childish.

Sarahnade

Yeah I'd definitely prefer a skip through than a tantrum

gemi.inv

Subscribing to Mosco's Patreon just to call her arrogant and childish is certainly a choice.

Robbie Thornton

Everything you have said; It’s really uncalled for here. You don’t tell Mosco what to do. Complaining is part of reacting.

Wee Lass Reacts

You commented and complained before you'd even WATCHED the reaction. Then you want to sit here and name call like we're back in the school playground. If you'd actually WATCHED the reaction, you'd realise that I was skipping in bursts of 10 seconds, looking for important content or information. I will not let ANYONE tell me to skip episodes. I will make that decision myself. Your behaviour isn't doing yourself any justice. So you can either leave the patreon yourself with a shred of your dignity in tact or talk to me and mods like an adult. Failure to do so, will see you refunded, then banned and removed from my Patreon.

Blaze

i think you misunderstood the situation. she skipped because she didn't like it. the poll is because she received backlash over skipping it. so let me reverse the question back to you: do you think it's cool if mosco let fans dictate what she should force to watch even if not enjoying it? also, regarding the "complaining" part. seeing as mosco prides herself in giving genuine reactions, i think the point being made here is not that she's gonna complain even if she enjoy it but rather giving a fair warning that if she will end up watching something she doesn't enjoy she will complain. which, is valid if you ask me.

Mechadon

I would be cool about either option if there wasn’t such a “Just deal with it” attitude attached. Offer some compensation. How about one week you do a SU reaction in place of the RWBY reaction to make up for it. Compensate the show you are being short with.

alovieruu

dude i understand what youre saying but that was way too far. give it a rest dude ive apologized we were just being cunts. we’re allowed to be a bit upset but why are you straight up insulting her like that

alovieruu

pasting this here because i really want you to see my apology/suggestion: i know youre pissed at what i said and i do apologize, i hear you, and i know i couldve said it better, i wont sit here and act like i wasn’t being a dick. if you skip it, maybe you could add something extra? like watch a fan animation or maybe create a theory? again, i apologize for being a cunt, youre doing the best you can. i was very caught up in my feelings after waiting for another reaction and the guilt of spending money i could spend on something else. thats not an excuse, just an explanation.

StarCutz

Do what you want doesnt effect me 👍💜

A Dead Diehard

I'm tempted to say the Dewey option cause at worst it's still Content, while at best, your complaints can spark comments that might end up turning you around on it. At least you covered what you set out to do. But on the other hand, I'm not comfortable with pushing you through something that makes you miserable.

Blaze

are you operating under the assumption that you are owed something? because it's a huge irony that in an earlier comment you called mosco "arrogant and childish" and yet here you are, acting like an arrogant child.

ArthurianMyst

We get it, "Townie" episodes in any series can be a slog, but can we call something a "full" reaction if you only react to part of the episode? hmmm it's a conundrum for sure. I've supported both you and Eli for years (only stopping when Patreon and other services get "dumb") in any case your true fans support you either way. The only request is don't neglect Hamish, that poor creature is there to support you of course. Stay strong and here's to lots of fun future reactions going forward!

Crazy

Honestly do whatever is best for you. I would hate for you to sit through an episode you don’t really like.

bo_the_fish

Skipping the escapism episode is 100% valid in my opinion, i hate that they would shove a stupid, nonsense, unimportant episode into some of the most intense moments of the show.

Auranymph

I'd prefer it if you watched the episodes and gave your genuine reactions to them, as that's what we're all paying for. When you skip through them or make us watch an empty chair, I can't help but feel cheated in some way. And while I understand that skipping the episode could count as a "genuine reaction", it's not very satisfying for the viewer. You can at least be satisfied knowing you're making money, I get nothing out of that. Rest assured I would never say something like that to a creator I wasn't directly paying money to, and I'm only saying this now because you asked for our opinions. It does look like I'm in the minority here on this, and it makes me wonder how many people here are being genuine and how many people are validating you for parasocial reasons. I'm not a member of the discord, I'm not here hoping that if I'm a loyal enough fan then one day we might be friends, I'm just here for your Steven Universe reactions. I understand our relationship is purely business. But yeah, it's only $9 a month. It's not enough money to make you do anything out of character, and it shouldn't be. Do what you will, it's not a big deal in the grand scheme of things.

Andrew Pineda

[Mod] I will clarify that Mosco's Patreon specifically is for "raw" and "uncut" reactions, so by the very advertisement she states in every video, it is by definition a raw and uncut reaction video. Mosco herself also stated this same thing in a reply to someone's older comment in this thread.

Bamberoni

Escapism really did suck. I’d support a reaction where you just roast the episode haha, but I also sympathize with not wanting to watch it at all. I remember personally resenting that episode so much due to its placement in the story.

Mechadon

Before I watch the reaction. I’m sorry for my display of arrogance and entitlement. My apology is for the Mods and Mosco and all of you reading this. What an atrocious way for me to speak of someone who regularly gives me joy. I don’t get to talk about animation with anyone in my life. Mosco’s reactions are kind of one-way conversation I am privileged to have. I do get annoyed during some reactions; but I often look back on those reactions with fondness and laughter. Mosco if anyone has ever called you childish it is one too many times; I am ashamed to have called you that. People like you have been forced to be mature before anyone else. You of all deserve the right to be childish from time to time.

Adrian

there's really no winning here unfortunately. Cause Option A you run the risk of actually missing important stuff or context needed for future episodes because you don't want to deal with it, since you don't actually know what you're gonna be skipping. I.E. You find the conversation boring, you skip it and thus miss a massive piece of lore dropped in the convo. Or take adventure time since by the poll theres a good chance you'll be watching it: one of the episodes you find extremely boring so you just skip a whole chunk of it, only to find out that you missed all the background build up to a major event happening in a future episode for how XYZ happened because it happened in the ep you skipped. Which is very much a thing that AT does on several occasions. Option B, well, no one wants to spend 30+ minutes just listening to someone go "I hate this, I hate this." the whole time because, imma be honest with you, it gets obnoxious, fast. It's also gonna offend people way quicker, as you've probably seen, because no one likes hearing someone spend half an hour saying they hate something that the person likes. You'll also likely miss lore or plot that gets sprinkled in because you're not actually /watching or listening/ at that point (IE how you missed that Nanafua became the new mayor / Dewey lost his election, which while miniscule on the surface, was kind of a mark of how things can't stay the same despite how hard Steven tried.) Either option you pick, especially in regards to a show or movie they love and hope you love too, is going to upset the masses.

Cali Jester

I want you to enjoy yourself more than anything. If you want to RIP into a episode then go off Queen but if you feel like just skipping it then do it.

MAX

lmaooo i hated that episode too. i always skip that like i dont even remember what happens in that episode so i totally understand skipping

Ollie

Personally I’d rather you say what you like and didn’t like, escapism is a pretty meh episode in the midst of a high stakes point

ArthurianMyst

that is and has always been understood, but thank you @Spywi for the clarification, I'm sure others may surely need it.

Adrian

Kind of agree. Like I'm fine with negative commentary *to a point.* Not everyone is going to like an episode, seeing and hearing /why/ they don't like it gives new perspective, regardless of if you agree with them or not. But when it becomes the kind you mentioned, being negative for the sake of being negative... it feels kind of insulting and disheartening? both from a creators pov and as a viewers pov, if that makes sense?

Ríon

Yeah, this actually sums up my feelings too! I actually came to the comment section cause I can't choose either. So, Mosco, I know you said no third option but: if possible maybe sit through it silently and then cut that from the edited version completely?? It's just YouTube that you would get in trouble right?? I mean, your angry stare is commentary enough lol. A sped up timplapse of you doing nothing could also be funny. Maybe get a fidget toy and do that in the corner or something, so you have a better chance of absorbing lore but don't loose your mind lol? Ultimately up to you though. No happy options here currently tho, if you are just going with the two binary options above. 🫠

Simon Davis

Of the two options, I'd sooner you bail out of a bad episode than complain through it, but I'd really like to echo everything Gone said further down. If you don't mind a rando's rambling: I like to watch your videos because your energy is infectious when you're enjoying things, and you generally give good / insightful commentary on what you're watching whether you enjoy it or not. I think that's why the Dewey reaction in particular felt 'off'. With Escapism, it was the jab at the audience that stung, but I can see the context for that in the thread here. (And yeah, I'm pretty sure these are nobody's favourite episodes) I'd never want you to pretend to enjoy something you really don't, or be annoyed that you didn't like something. There's just a really different feeling to someone going "Yeah, this isn't working for me because..." or "OK, I'm just going to skip through and see if there's anything that looks interesting/important, and then let's chat about why I didn't enjoy it", or even mercilessly taking the piss out of a bad episode, and someone going "This sucks, this is stupid, I don't care about this" all through the episode. Can't speak for anyone but myself, but that last one just feels uncomfortable to watch, not fun.

Gone

I don’t know that it comes across that way for me. The “negative for the sake of being negative” part I mean. I think the negativity was sincere, it didn’t feel put on or for its own sake. I just didn’t feel that anything was done with the negativity. I got that she didn’t care and that it was, at best, a badly placed or timed episode. But that sentiment was all there was. I would’ve been fine with, off the top of my head, her talking over everything by making up some over the top scenario Lars was dealing with that we could be focusing on instead. I sincerely hope this isn’t reading as too critical. If how Mosco reacted to the episode is how she engages with something that she just isn’t feeling, that’s absolutely fine. But if that’s the case, yeah, once the negativity is expressed if you feel like you’re going to be stewing in it the whole time I won’t be put out if you skim.

Rando_mIndividual

Maybe just watch episodes you dislike on 2x speed because my biggest worry about skipping through is missing really important information However, as some others said, I think people will dislike your reaction for disliking the episode no matter what choice you make- so good luck o7

Sanmei

I keep going back and forth. After watching the reaction, I think the skipping was fine since it was mostly just the initial "how to make a raft" sequence, which didn't exactly cover anything interesting, just a few semi-cute interactions between the watermelons (god, this must sound weird out of context). Skipping the shark (as opposed to jumping it!) was a little more regret-worthy, but not a biggie in the grand scheme of things. SU has a tendency to pump the breaks on occasion and that's not going to be to everyone's taste, especially in a media climate where shows don't tend to have as much filler because XYZ streaming network only approved 8 episodes and might not greenlight a second season. That's fine. You love the other 98% of the show and that what matters.

TheMadDragon

I'd rather you skip than suffer through something you actively hate.

Daphne Pfister

If you are going to watch, complain away or bring in chair and have it complain. Otherwise just skip ahead. Option C, where it makes sense, watch in background and talk about unrelated stuff with the video and its audio off until it gets to interesting stuff again.

Adrian

Fair enough, the “negative for negativity” was more cause I don’t know the exact phrase to use so sorry if that caused wires crossed. Like her frustration with it is 100% genuine, as you said, and that is perfectly fine to feel! It just feels more hostile when it’s a broken record of “I hate this. I don’t care. I hate this” even when the feelings are her honest reaction.

Someday Sera

for a show with episodes as short as steven, i'd say go with the full react, at least for stuff like dewey where there is something to react to. Escapism doesn't really have much going on, so skipping most of an episode that is largely just ambience feels fine. If it was something in a 22 minute format or longer, cutting it down is probably the way to go. Regardless, I don't think we have any episodes like that left in anything you are watching, so it's not likely to come up again. (though I have no idea about rwby)

Porpoise Power

It's okay not to like something. As patreon supporters we are literally paying you for your full honest reactions. It can feel like too much since we're getting the full blast of you being annoyed when you are getting filler content, when you feel like too much important stuff is losing screen time. Expressing that frustration is valid criticism.

CaptainChar

seeing that you're almost done SU as is, you can prob just watch them as is

Gone

I’m glad you touched on the comments, that’s something I had nebulous worries about that I couldn’t bring into focus. I’m chronically online enough and have seen people even here be crumb bums enough to know that the “oh the fans are gonna have a bad reaction” isn’t coming from nowhere. And not being a content creator, I can’t pretend to know what it’s like to have to deal with that as part of your job. Cause it’s personal even though it’s the job. So I don’t want to minimize that aspect at all. Some people in the comments are definitely not JUST disagreeing. And I haven’t even been exposed to the TDP thing. But yeah, I think it’s good to remember that what’s said in the video IS said to all of the viewers, not just the ones behaving poorly. Ríon makes a good point there. I’m not exactly feeling all fucked up about it, but it is a bummer seeing combativeness (that feels too harsh a word, but I can’t think of a different one. Confrontation, maybe?) leaking into the videos. Again, though, I’m not in Mosco’s position, so I am very much aware that this is all easy for me to say.

Zefram Mann

No need to glaze. We're in this to hear your honest opinions. If you're gonna react to something you might as well react to all of it.

Alyssa Gallagher

Girl just don't throw a fit because it's not what you wanted/expected. It's not your show it's a show & you gotta take it as it comes. Find things you like about it & make that the focus. Do something else until you're bored & curious enough to go back to it. It's meant to be enjoyed, & people paying for full content are gonna be mad you didn't provide because "you didn't care".

peachy af

Youve never watched this show so even in some episodes that may prevent "fillery" there might be a crucial detail or something so i think it would be ill advised to skip it like you did today. Maybe just watch on a faster playback speed and please pretty please dont repeat "i dont care" the entire time either lol But tbh, at this point for SU, i dont think this will be an issue movie forward. The movie is good and Future is short and to the point with every episode being pretty good imo

Lord

My opinion about it, I prefer a full react and if I don't like how you are reacting in that moment I can decide to skip it, I like to have the full episode, but I understand if it is the other way.

Evil Queen

I would rather have your thoughts than stifle what you actually feel about an episode or show. We don’t have to like every episode or moment in shows and I’d rather it be genuine than not.

Davy

People are going to be mad with whatever you do but don’t sit through something you don’t genuinely enjoy just for people who would complain about everything

Caitlin

I’m so disappointed! The fact there isn’t a 3rd option to watch the episodes and just complain half as much! I didn’t even mind the complaining! If you only did it half the time you did and didn’t miss things you wouldn’t have gotten 100 comments to 20 likes or whatever. I don’t think a single comment was mad you didn’t like the episode, we don’t either! All the comments say “please don’t miss things”. I can’t believe you missed escapism.. totally understand hating it but did you at least watch the end? The end with the song? I’m scared to click on the video

Caitlin

I hope this comes across nice! I’m a bit autistic and some times what I say comes across not as intended! I mean this so nicely and love this channel as I’ve been watching you watch Steven universe here since end of season 1

Caitlin

I guess I’d rather skip through complaints tho! To see if you see the part we are watching for

Emmy A.

I vote for you reacting to the episode itself rather than skip it. I can’t speak for everyone, but for me, I’m watching to see you react to a show, so you having critiques, dislikes, or simply not interested in an episode is still part of that experience.

Andy

I don't mind reactions with criticism in them, in fact I support that over just blind un-geniune praise, but I do admit I get frustrated with reactions that become NOTHING but negativity. At that point, where it feels like it's gonna stop being a balance of positives and negatives and just be pure frustration? I'd personally prefer to just skip it

WyvernKing99

I'd prefer a full, honest reaction to everything over just skipping certain parts. I'll be the first to admit the fandom can be volatile, but for me at least, I watch reactions to see people, well, react. That's what I love, to see people give their opinions and critiques whether positive or negative. It's part of the experience of the show, and I prefer seeing it over part of the experience being ignored. Besides, in a show like this, even the least consequential episodes can have some deeper meaning, parallel, or foreshadowing within, all of which is hard to spot when fast forwarding.

David Johnson

If you're not enjoying yourself, skip that episode. Not every single episode of any series is a perfect gem, after all...there's a reason why abridged series are a thing.

Caitlin

I’m just gonna put those videos on 2x speed and stop when I wanna see if she has anything to say or if she’s gonna miss it

Caitlin

I agree! But in the mayor dewy episode she missed so much because she was out of her chair or complaining during it. I just wish there was a slight in between

Caitlin

THIS!!! Thank you! While I found the episode frustrating through most of it, the end is seriously impactful. I don’t mind complaining at all, I complained through most the episode watching it alone, i just wish she watched it and complained about what she is seeing not just the same complaint the whole time (being “I hate this episode” or “this sucks”)

Void Fairy

So Idk which option to pick, because on the one hand, I didn't mind you skipping the bits of this episode that you did. But on the other hand, I wouldn't necessarily want to sign off on you doing this a lot more, especially since I could see how things *could* get missed. Also, I DO actually enjoy hearing your complaints, why you dislike the scene or how it's fitting into the show, the emotions it makes you feel and express. I mean, I do watch for your reactions, and that INCLUDES your anger or annoyance, as long as you have something to say about it. Admittedly I did enjoy your reaction to the mayor dewy episode. I mean come on, you can't be surprised that some fans find it endearing when you get so passionate and animated when you're so mad about something? I agree that at a certain point it's just beating a dead horse once you've said everything you have to say. I think it's sort of a fine line to walk. You seem to have shown good judgement so far with skipping, I haven't really seen you do that before this episode so it's not like it happens all the time. So I think overall I'm fine with skipping as long as it's a last resort option and you've already attempted to voice your reasons for disliking it.

peachy af

Yeah i agree. I know a lot of people didnt like dewey wins or escapism too but reactors like scoot and sorta stupid (my fav SU reactions) just kinda took it in stride and said "i didnt really like that episode there wasnt much to say sorry" which was what i feel like to be an appropriate response

peachy af

I also prefer a skip over a tantrum but i was kinda hoping for a full reaction anyways while like curbing a tantrum? Like she doesnt HAVE to complain as much as she did in the dewey episode but idk that might be too much to ask maybe that would just be inauthentic by that point 😔

KittyPryde21

I honestly don't mind how you handled watching escapism now that I think about it, I mean I personally like that episode but I also know I am in the minority on that lol So I vote for that moving forward, im sure if you need clarification from something you might have skipped on accident you can ask on the discord♥

Alp

Ehhhhh. Yeah. I dunno. I'd say sit through the things you hate, REact honestly, but don't go so far it's nothing but nonstop complaints. Considering how evenly split the poll is you might just have to pick one for yourself and deal with it, no pleasing all of us by the looks of it

Candace

I love Steven universe but even I skipped past some of the episodes on my first watch and when I went back and watched them it wasn’t worth it so I say just skip past the bits that aren’t important and aren’t interesting to you 🤷🏽‍♀️

LikeCat

Skip them if they aren't interesting, but at least give us a heads up beforehand so that people who are expecting a full reaction (and are paying for them and they matter about the full reactions) will not as annoyed when they find out you skipped certain episodes.

Via dot 124

I think it's valid to be complaining, like I get like that too, but since I'm not reacting to it for a living, I can just skip, if I *had* to watch those episodes right after watching some grade a story progression and lore, I'd also throw a bit of a fit, Imo the way she did it with the watermelon episode was good, I didn't even notice on the first watch lmao, I was confused by the title for a second till I read the comments

Davy

But if she doesn’t like the episode, she doesn’t like it. You can’t change her opinion and she’s not just gonna sit there and pretend that she likes it when she doesn’t 😀

morthasa

I'm not sure how to answer: on the one hand, I'd say I'd prefer complaints, because ranting and grumping are often enjoyable; on the other hand that would be rather hypocritical of me, because I can't pretend I wasn't hammering the -> key during the last episode. I also didn't care for that.

Chris P3

Generally we want you to enjoy stuff you’re reacting to, even if the occasional angry rant is fun too. As you’ve specified, skipping ahead 10 seconds at a time until something important or interesting comes up sounds doesn’t sound that bad or unreasonable, but it begs the question of how much reaction would we lose if you’d done that for past videos?

Mauranne

Yeah I agree ! That was her first time skipping parts of an episode. Escapism is incredibly frustrating : they had to show us how Steven used his powers to transmit the message to bismuth in the least interesting way. I wished she at least tried to understand where the watermelons' religions were coming from or empathise with how desperate Steven was to get to Beach City (literally losing parts of his watermelon body) but I can't blame her for just wanting to move on and get to actual lore. This episode being the one before the last was definitely a bad move from the production team. I honestly don't think she will find other fillers that badly timed in another show though so I don't think she will need to skip in other episodes. Also it's definitely not fun when an 11 min episode reaction turns into a 5 min one so it's definitely better if it's a last resort

Artiphex

I'm voting for skipping the episode, and on the next reaction video you can just briefly comment on the episode you skipped. Hearing you complaining is funny, but I felt kinda bad watching you watch the Mayor Dewey episode cuz you just seemed really miserable. This IS a great show but some episodes are stinkers. If the stinkers ruin your experience that much it'd be better to skip them so they don't taint the enjoyment you get from the amazing episodes.

Jergin

The mayor Dewey episode was unbearable to watch, id much rather you just skip the episode if youre not liking it.

Tarot-Sovereign

Have you considered playing episodes that you find dull, on 2X speed?

dannyzee123

I'm gonna share my two cents and say that you should keep an open mind to what an episode is trying to do. I shared my full opinion in the commentary of the episode on patreon, but TL:DR, I was not mad, just disappointed that because you got so impatient that the episode wasn't going how you wanted, you missed out on some solid anti-religious-extremism allegorying. Every time the watermelons show up, you're gonna see some heavy social commentary, and that's why Rebecca Sugar put it there. It's why she fought so hard for a gay wedding, and yes, it's why she has the diamonds constantly fall back into calling Steven as Pink, even when Blue seems like she's making an effort. It is 100% an allegory for gender identity. The message is everything for Rebecca Sugar, especially in this final season when she knew the show was ending. So when you claim you just don't care about the watermelons so you're gonna skip it, you're basically saying "I don't care about Rebecca Sugar's message so I'm gonna skip it." So yeah, nobody's asking you to glaze something that you're unhappy with. But rather than immediately writing off the episode and tuning out, try and use that brain of yours to understand why the episode is doing the things it's doing.

peachy af

Yeah escapism was better than the dewey one for sure, i agree. But by curb the tantrum i mean literally not doing what she did in dewey wins because it was incredibly grating and even though i also dont like the episode i found that reaction to be like really incredible in a bad way (sorry thats just how i felt)

Via dot 124

Yeah that's understandable

Corvo Joka

I think it's best to watch it and keep an open mind about it. Please complain, if you don't like it, critique it as much as you want, this is why we watch your Content after all, but don't skip the episodes, even if you don't like 'em. I mean maybe you'll miss an aspect about the episode or a type of symbolism that would change your opinion about the episode or at least make you dislike it less. I know you care the most about driving forward the plot, but sometimes some episodes are there to just take a break or build the world/characters further or relay a message through symbolism or just be some silly fun.

Jesus Zavala

I voted for skipping it, but I'd say it's a wee bit more complicated in some cases, like if an episode is making you really frustrated, I'd say keep... Watching??!! Cause it's pretty funny hearing you rant hehe however, if you find it BORING... Then yeah, skip, no doubt! Hopefully I'm not alone on this one but I REALLY enjoy when we're enjoying the same content and just as it is frustrating for you having to watch something you don't like, it really bumps me out having to watch you not having a good time... So yeah, in general, skip if you ain't feeling it!

oopsglitch

Seconding this! I loved the Mayor Dewey reaction, that was funny, but escapism is super boring and unnecessary.

AriOwl

Jesus Christ that’s split

detective potato

So I picked skip only for one reason. I know that you will sit there and watch the episode anyways in case something important happens that is lore related and you'll react to it or bring it up in the edited video. But for the viewer sake we don't want to sit through something unrelated to the main plot either so when we watch the reaction most of us won't be paying attention any more than you are so keeping in the important stuff seems more beneficial and means less busy work for you and the editor. At least in my opinion.

Wee Lass Reacts

My counter to this would be, strawberries are good. They're good for you even. And sweet and fun. But not in a carbonara pasta. There's a time and place for certain episodes, but when the whiplash of the tone takes me completely out of the show I am watching I cannot enjoy the episode and my frustration bubbles over. When that happens I can promise you I won't be able to critically analyse why someone put fucking strawberries in my carbonara except to complain about it. There's a time and place for strawberries and watermelon. But in the meat of the plot, in the meat of the meal, isnt it. So you're asking me to do something ill find absolutely impossible. The exception might be to skip the episode and return to it when the show is completely over. When I've finished the carbonara and I'm now in the mood for strawberries and watermelon.

tapdisneyintome

While I prefer full reactions I get the frustration of not enjoying yourself. As long as your mods are keeping you aware of info I think the 10 second skips are fine. That said, maybe a post like this one as a heads up before it comes out so people are more aware of what to expect as I think for some it was likely feeling blindsided by it.

Nihilero

I'd like the full episode, but I don't want you to do something ull hate.

seth

To be honest, I don't mind the skipping. I'm just happy you didn't skip the song.

Neil Marshall

Selfishly I like the idea of a full-throated teardown of episodes that don't pass muster. I would find that entertaining and I'd learn a thing or two. BUT, if you're up to your eyeballs already AND the reactions from viewers is going to stress you out, I withdraw my vote and say skip.

Thor

You could take it as practice to improv commentary on boring content. Or you skip though it and add another episode if possible, but that would only be an option if you basically skip the episode entirely instead of quick watching. So I say, just sit through it and engage in the "boring content challenge". XD Somtimes it's fun, somtimes it's work. Another point would be the baseline respect towards the people who worked on the episode.

Samuel Wilson

Use your own discretion. If you don't wanna watch it then that is fine. Part of me thinks people are reacting the way they are because you did skip several stunning visual cues. If that isn't your thing then so be it. Im just here to watch your journey!

Angelus Lupus

I voted rant, but any combination that suits the situation is fine. It's a shame about the spoiler comments, because discussion there can be very interesting when some people loved and others hated certain parts of an episode

Caitlin

That’s actually a great suggestion. Then she’ll at least see everything. It’s how I watch all my videos lmao

Caitlin

Yeah I understand that fully. Let us know you’re gonna come back to the episode with an open mind at the end! I think people would appreciate that tho it’s not something you are obligated to do. I get very try one tack minded as well:)

Caitlin

Also the analogy is very cute

Caitlin

Disagree! The end has the best song and a super heart warming moment! I hated 90% of it to be fair but even that bit was interesting coming back. I see the watermelons praising and dying for Steven as a mirror to the gems praising and dying for the diamonds. I think if that’s Rebecca’s goal then it’s an interesting perspective on how the diamonds view others

Caitlin

Yeah I’m worried about adventure time. She’s not going to like it honestly

Vex Valor

I subscribe to you to hear your opinion even if I don't always agree with it, I want to hear it. If you are not enjoying an episode, I think the way you went about it was better than the Mayor Dewey one. You skimmed it and reacted to scenes that seemed interesting to you and I think that is a better option than zoning out and complaining. I don't want you to pretend to like something when you don't. I think as long as you explain your point of view on an episode, that's commentary to it. I don't hate that episode, but I get why it's boring and just want to hear what you would have liked the episode to be about instead. I think we could have had a more emotional episode, but it went for more atmospheric which is not everyone's taste. I don't think the pacing of a Steven Universe episode is all that pressing of an issue. I want to hear other opinions. If I wanted the same opinions as me, I would go talk to a mirror. It would be fun to read over comments once you finished the series.

deny

well there wont be more episodes like this so it doesnt matter really

Lord Hubris

In general I am happy to get your take on things regardless of whether it is positive or negative. That said, I can totally get finding it harder to bring the energy you might want to when something is simply dull to you and am not opposed to you just kinda skimming past something that isn't to your taste. I certainly do so plenty when consuming media myself and so it would be a bit weird for me to not treat that as a clear and valid reaction to the media in question in itself. So while I suppose I generally favour the Major Dewey approach as content in itself, I took no issue with either reaction and am not about to complain whichever route you take or if you opt to go back and forth between the approaches with whatever suits you in the moment.

Justin Payne

This is a bit of a tough one in general, I don't actually mind either way personally, but I would recommend watching through even if you don't like it. Obviously you don't have to pretend you do like it, you can be as vocal as you want, that's part of why we watch your reactions in the first place, but the reason it's important to watch them anyway is because you don't always know something will be wasted time. There's TONS of episodes in tons of shows that have like 90% filler, and then one bit of information that's under 10s that is either heavy foreshadowing or will later become VERY relevant to the plot. Not gonna go into spoilers ofc, but Adventure Time has this happen quite a few times, and that show is #1 on your poll so I know you're starting it at some point. I don't want you to accidentally skip anything that will become relevant later and get confused. I know it sucks to watch through something you're not interested in, but even outside of the content creation side of it, I think it's worth it to sit through the bad stuff anyway in case there's something really big to be seen.

CrissyJay

Sometimes episodes are necessary if it contains important information. That said, I think you should be able to fast forward to find the information if you're not enjoying what you're watching. Honestly, your Mayor Dewey episode was a rough watch for me. It's not fun seeing you upset. I really like you, Mosco, but I did not like hearing all the constant complaining. And really I think that goes for anyone. If you're not enjoying it, then you're not enjoying it and I'm not the type of person who likes to see someone I like (friend, family or content creator) be constantly annoyed and miserable. I have fun watching your content when you're having fun and enjoying something cause your personality is great. I don't think you should feel forced to watch something you don't want to. Personally, I didn't really like the Mayor Dewey episode either but I understand it did have some important information.

Film Vagabond

You can skip if you want, I feel that the circumstances of the frustration were rare & probably won't happen again but a lot of people were equally disappointed when originally watching the show. So you've experienced a cliffhanger & instead of moving forward you're thrown into a townie episode where Mayor Dewey & Ronaldo try to babysit Onion - Crazy whiplash, but that's so specific it's probably never gonna happen in your career ever again

Katelyn Benroth

Just do what you’re comfortable with mosco!

frameschick

Speak for yourself! I love an honest Mosco!! Her complaints are typically valid and when she does something like listen from the floor and speak for her chair, that's funny and adorable! Let the girl complain when she needs to, however she wants to. I just want to see it happen.
