Before season 3, a lot of fans theorized that the guy Hilda's dad bumped into at the end was her dad.

I love how honest you are about what you thought. I'm not on patreon for hilda, I'm on it for steven- but as I've seen it I thought I'd check out your reaction to the last episode. I'm so glad I'm not the only one who finds Hilda's character with massive flaws. At first I didn't find her actually bad- but just annoying- like in the episode where they go on a holiday and frida and David just want to chill but she keeps on trying to get an adventure out of them. But by the end I actually think she isn't that goodkof a person. I get she's just a kid- but she does make some mortally unjust choices. Also- I hate the trope of killing a character then bringing them back. You can't have your cake and eat it

The bell tower guy from season 2 (the guy Hilda's real dad bumped into at the end of the series). People theorized that he was hilda's father before her real father was introduced in season 3. Again this was well before season 3 was ever and announced so no one knew who her father was at the time.

Hilda is the sort of show i put in the background while folding laundry. It's a folding laundry show

I'm so glad you took the time to finish this show no matter how frustrating it could be. I definitely agree with you about hilda never learning from her actions. It's actually crazy how convenient the plot is for her 😅 At least this was a really cute show. Can't wait to see what you react to next !

I feel like Mosco’s increasing hostility to Hilda’s writing does a very good job illustrating why having her watch adventure time is a bad idea. Much as I like it, you kinda have to be willing to go with the flow on inconsistent writing and characterization. I certainly got frustrated with it at times, much more so than I ever did with Hilda. Who knows though, maybe she’ll love it, or maybe it’ll get beaten out by other shows anyway. I haven’t looked at the polls in a bit but I’m kind of assuming we’ll end up with amphibia and adventure time next

I think Johanna deserves her past, panful or not. So trying to get around that while in the fairy realm seems incredibly unfair. Hilda is stepping into a problem that is older than she is and she unwittingly righting an old wrong. The fact is the system of the fairy isle is to blame, the one that contrives this hostage situation in the first place. It's easy to blame Hilda for shaking up the unjust status quo, but it had to be done.

It’s a shame it wasn’t more popular, I really loved watching it and the reactions to it, I’ll miss Hilda every Sunday.

And on some level, there is still a consequence. She might know who her grandparents are, and that they’re watching over her, but neither she nor Johanna will ever see them again.

Finally seeing Frieda doing magic, and why we haven't really until now, I think the witches in this world have a similar mindset to Granny Weatherwax in the Discworld series - arguably the most powerful witch in that world - that if you have to use magic to solve your problems, you're doing it wrong.

David Johnson

I think Hilda's main problem as a person is actually similar to Adora's - both feel that they *personally* have to solve whatever the problem is, and find it incredibly difficult, if not impossible, to ask someone else for help.

Chris P3

Honestly? I can relate to that. It’s a hard habit to break even when there’s no shame in asking for help.

Wee Lass Reacts

Even if that's true, Adora is an adult. Hilda hasn't learned or grown at all through the show the way we seen Adora change. And unfortunately for Adora half of the time, she WAS the only one who could personally solve everything, because she was She-Ra.

Wee Lass Reacts

My problem isnt with the complex story surrounding the fae rhelm or Johanna's past. It's that from the entirety of s2 and the movie, Hilda never thought to speak to her mother and try and ASK her for her help, which I think sends a bad message to kids watching. If Hilda had tried and her mother had said no, then I'd have stuck up for Hilda leaving on her own and critised Johanna for not helping her and being upset that her daughter left without her. But it was that Hilda literally never learned that lesson.

I think Hilda’s dad bumping into the bell keeper was a nod at the audience who at large suspected the bell keeper at being the father. While I personally would have forgiven Hilda sooner for her wrongdoing, it’s only from the stand point of wanting to enjoy the moments for what I assume were intended by the showrunners. But that is no criticism, I love your reactions and your insight and thank you so so so so much for reacting to my number one favorite winter comfort show. The art and music make it the perfect vibe. I can’t wait to see what replaces this next!

Vilmu

Also, Adora feeling like she's the one who always has to do everything was a result of her traumatic background.

Chris P3

I remember Mosco getting on David’s case about neglecting rope duty way back in season 1. Nice to see him come in clutch this time.

Chris P3

Alternatively, since Alfur was going to tell Johanna anyway, Hilda could’ve asked him to be the middle man. “Tell her everything, but we need to go now.” Leaving behind a message or a messenger would’ve even better than nothing.

Reaper Scythe

Okay, you had the same thought I did at Anders bumping into the bell keeper. I really liked his character and wanted so bad for him to be more involved. The way he respected the various magic creatures around him but was also just a chill, normal guy made him seem like he'd be a super reliable partner and stepdad so I shipped him and Johanna and hoped something would come of it. Then Anders bumped into him and I was like "Wait! Did I bet on the wrong parent?"

Faroth

Anders bumping into the bell guy is just acall out to fans to make them know they knew the theories about him being Hilda's dad Also, the lady from troll patrol had alfur in her shoulder and looked directly at him, so she signed up the paperwork to see elves

Faroth

Remind me too of the most powerful wizard in ben10, that just love street magic because is not magical

The main reason I think they took the writing shortcut of having Hilda revert to her "Don't Tell Mom" flaw is because Joanna (after a good deal of convincing) would have contactacted Astrid about how to rescue Anders. Which would have probably stopped the plot short of Joanna getting trapped in Fairy Country. They COULD have given Astrid the Idiot Ball and refuse to help (for fear of Joanna learning about her parents), which leads to the subsequent events of the last episode. But that would have had its own issues. And Astrid surviving due to Victory Van Gale is a classic Chekov's Gunman/Brick Joke combo, with its only flaw being (as you pointed out), that Hilda suffers no consequences. I choose to believe that the episode ran out of time, and Hilda willingly served her grounding until the Great Raven Parade came around, which is when Joanna lifted it. But that's just a headcanon. (Also, Anders and Bell-Guy would be kinda cute as a couple. Free spirited vs comically grounded.)
