Theres a few AU Steven Universe's, i personally have been love the "White Steven" which is a white diamond version instead of pink. In that one they called Volleyball just Earl, which is think would have been a better name here but oh well

Pink/Rose was definitely improving over time, as the further back in her past we look the worse things we find out.

I do like how the ending was ambiguous on if her crack was healed or not. I personally think Vollyballs scar didn't heal for a similar reason to spinel's heart not changing back in the movie. That regardless of whether the scar is physically healed, even with lasting trauma, you are still able to move forward and a new purpose. Deep trauma doesn’t heal instantly, and might never heal at all, however in saying all that, one day it might be okay and get a sense of normalcy and she’ll be able to appear better

From a google search, it seems the official name of the fusion between our Pearl and Volleyball is Mega Pearl, but I've always liked the, I think, fan-made name for her, Royal Pearl. It suits her very well imo.

Yeah I’m pretty sure the official name for any fusion of the same gem is just “mega”. I might be wrong tho. I think the ruby fusion was also called mega ruby

I love both of these episodesssss I have two things I want to say. One, I believeeee the Rose Quartz gems were created after pink diamond came up with her disguise. And two, the pearl fusion is referencing an anime called Revolutionary Girl Utena (which happens to be very gay)

You said pink gave her trauma and also gave her freedom but in a round about way. I feel like it should be reversed- freedom was clearly given to her but the trauma was roundabout because it was how Roses action backfired and not anything she did purposely to pearl

In Now We're Only Falling Apart, it's shown Rose got her Rose Quartz look from Pearl's hologram. So it's Pearl's OC. And when Pink Diamond took that form, she said , "hello fellow amethyst guards" so it seemed like the persona of Rose Quartz came later. So my theory is Rose personally made the batch of Rose Quartz as a cover for when she decided to start the rebellion as Rose Quartz. I don't think it's just that they came from her kindergarten, because Amethyst and the amethysts in the zoo did too. And Pearl made the point of saying they're like her cause she made them. So that's what I think, I'd love to hear from the creators!

Incubus Ink

Pink Diamond. Immature, temper tantrums, hurt her pearl. We can assume that drastically changed her with regret as later she's completely different. Pink plays with organics. Sets them loose in the ballroom. Gets locked in the tower, crying. White threatens to take her pearl away. Later on we see that pink pearl was taken away. Pink in the garden. Fun with her Spinel. Gradually long for responsibility. Respect. Maturity. Needs to grow up. Independence and not to be abused anymore and locked in the tower. Pink get's her own planet. This is her chance. Spinel making her look and feel like a kid. Not taking a hint. Told to stay. Spinel takes it far more literally than Pink would have thought. Pink and our Pearl on Earth. Rose Quarts disguise. Discovers the destruction of organics. Tries to stop the colony. Other diamonds don't take her seriously. Treat her as a child still, who can't get a simple task done. Pink rebels as Rose quarts. Trying to give herself an excuse to fail the colony and stop it. One of her soldiers and friend, Bismuth gets too violent. Wants to shatter the diamonds. Rose tries stopping her, Bismuth turns on Rose. Get's bubbled. Rose can't find it in herself to tell the others. What if they turn on her too? If they knew the truth they would, right? She's gone too far. Can't turn back. Keeps postponing the Bismuth situation. Diamonds tell her as long as she is there to lead, the colony will be completed. That and Bismuth, give her the idea to fake her own shattering. Has been mistreated by the diamonds. Think they don't care. Fakes her own shattering. Was so wrong about the diamond's response and grief. The diamond attack. Rose only manages to save a handful. Homeworld has left. They won. But at what cost? 6000 years of no homeworld activity. Has no idea about any cluster. Has no idea homeworld is going to return. Has no reason to believe that Steven will have to deal with any of this. Doesn't even know about most of the issues he'll be faced with. Gives her life so that he may live. Probably thinks that when she's gone, Steven will inevitably discover Bismuth and can finally set her free. Bismuth won't have to be around Rose, and the war will be over, so there they'll be okay. A flawed and tradic gem who made mistakes, had relationships, found love and ultimately died thinking she was leaving a beautiful world to her child. Maybe even hoped that with her gone, Pearl would finally be free from her dependence once her heart break has time to heal. We can only speculate. We didn't see her thought process. Average SU viewer watching her story in reverse revealed in dramatic scenes through the eyes of those worst effected by her, but primarily the diamond system, through bits and fragments: "Pink Diamond was a monster!!!!"

Steven has so many mixed feelings about his mom. And honestly not a single one is invalid. I’m firmly on the “Rose was good” side of things, but I don’t blame anyone for a second for having complicated feelings about her.

I wonder if steven getting older is what's causing his diamond powers to intensify. Like a gem version of puberty. When he was younger it was hard for him to do basic things but now that he's older it's harder for him to control his powers.

I feel like the point of not showing the left side of Volleyball's face at the end is to say that it doesn't matter whether or not the crack is still there, you can still move on and heal even if the thing that caused you pain left it's mark on you Also the pearl fusion gave me huuuuuuuuge Revolutionary Girl Utena vibes I'd be shocked if it wasn't intentional given it's a pretty iconic anime among sapphic people

I can't help but think of how much crap Shy Rose was put through because Pink Diamond stole her identity. She was likely the one she modeled her Rose form on. I have to assume she got mistaken for the rebel leader all the time before she was bubbled.

Prince Pearl has to be one of my favorite fusions. Volleyball is one of my favorite episodes. We get a lot more information about Pink and Steven. And Volleyball is a great character.
