One thing i dont think is ever explained is a justification for penny. Beyond Penny being a powerful military weaoon, she is also the first artificial aura. Ironwood says himself that Atlas began looking at aura from a scientific method and that is how they made the machine to transfer aura from amber. Clearly Penny was part of thr research that led to that so it isnt like he was creating a weapon and hoarding it from his allies. It may have been a bad idea to keep the secret in hindsight but seems more like compartmentalization.

Penny was an uncover combat-ready robot, and from the audience perspective they didn't know she was an experiment with aura, they just think she's a regular robot. It's no smoking gun but the point of the speech was to sow doubt and mistrust. So even the implication that Ironwood made Penny to be another killing robot for his millitary capable of blending in with civillians is enough to be upsetting

"He sounds less like the Beast and more like Gaston." Not sure I've heard any other reactor catch that at this point. It's interesting because both Blake and Adam are both Faunus, living a similar life in the Black Trailer. If it were following the story of Beauty and the Beast, then going to Beacon would be Blakes version of going to the Beast's castle; unfamiliar surroundings, surrounded by Humans (people different from yourself, not Faunus), and having to overcome Blake's fear of it. Which means Adam would represent the normal everyday village life, which was once comforting but becomes ultimately the problem.

Yeah, so the reveal of Velvet's weapon and semblance was pretty dope. Her being able to mimic fighting styles and then make hard light Dust copies of their weapons with the pictures she takes is a pretty creative idea. Only downside is that it's only one use per photo. Weiss summoned the arm of the knight from her trailer. You can tell by the sword and the armor you can see it wearing. We've seen a lot of action in this show but somehow Roman beating Ruby with his cane while she's curled up on the floor is one of the most brutal moments to me. I love the structure of this episode. It builds up a possible turn towards things being okay for most of our heroes. Roman gets eaten, Neo takes flight, Velvet revealed her abilities, Weiss summoned, Ironwood's back, Pyrrha's about to get the Maiden powers. But then everything changes with the release of an arrow. Cinder kills Amber and gets the rest of the power, Blake gets stabbed, Yang is disarmed... Suddenly that decent victory we'd been working toward just seconds ago is flipped and snatched away from our heroes. Now the battle just got harder. It's so good! The rise and fall is spectacular. Ugh, I love this episode so much. Still one of my favorites.

One of the thing I like to say about this chapter is, you know that grimms are attracted to negative emotion, sadness, fear, anger ect ect. We saw two grimms attacking both Blake and Adam, Blake was fear, Adam was anger. I didn't search if someone at CRWBY said that it was intentional or not, but that is how I interpret this scene and find RWBY really interesting for this kind of thing, it's never said, but if you pay attention, you could see this, a little detail, but that make this universe even more "reel" in my opinion. Also, Sun is the "you got to be kidding me" of the volume in this chapter ^^. I didn't say it for Volume 1 and 2, but I'm almost sure that Weiss said it in one of them and maybe Torchwick in the other. It's just that, I remarked that this same line, is said in every volume, so it's a little game with myself to notice it ^^.

Something fun to take note of with Velvet is that her weapon is the camera. When she takes pics of other people’s weapons it makes a hard light replica of it however, that replica is fragile which is why she needs to be mindful of how often she uses her weapon. Not only that but after using a weapon that picture disappears from the camera forever. The more pics she takes the more she’s able to use the weapon. Her semblance is also copy as she’s capable of copying everyone’s fighting styles which makes her a wild card.

“Scathing eyes ask that we be symmetrical, one sided, and easily processed. Yet every misshapen spark’s unseen beauty is greater than its would be judgment.” Is the quote at the beginning of the Yellow Trailer, which shows that Yang loosing her arm was the plan from the beginning. Her VA Barbra Dunkleman confirmed after this Volume that Monty specifically talked about this event when he was telling her about Yang. People may have mentioned this, but Monty stated that he likes creating characters that aren’t who you initially think when meeting them, but are slowly revealed to the audience through backstory or character arcs. Fun fact: Yang was specifically designed after her VA (Barbra), who Monty was great friends with and wanted to make essentially a version of her to put in his show. Her “Yang voice” is also extremely close to her normal voice, so whenever she participates in announcements about RWBY, it throws me for a loop, because it sounds bizarrely like Yang is breaking the fourth wall to talk to the audience.

Jaune you had one fucking job. Let's talk about semblances! On this episode we get to canonically see Velvet and Adam's: Velvet and her weapon, Aneisidora, are a rather unique combination because they are, so far, the only character whose weapon is intrinsically linked with their Semblance. Aneisidora takes pictures of weapons and creates slides that can emit hard light copies of those weapons. That's all it does and is frankly useless on its own. However, when combined with Velvet's Photographic Memory, she can use the fighting style of those she has seen fight, thus turning the rabbit faunus into a veritable powerhouse. Speaking of faunus powerhouses, Adam. Adam's semblance is called Moonslice and is very simple. As has been demonstrated in both the Black trailer and this episode, adam can absorb energy through the blade of his weapon and store it like a battery to be unleashed later. Sound familiar? It should, it's very similar to Yang's, though the mechanics are quite different. As demonstrated Moonslice is incredibly powerful because it sliced right THROUGH Yang's aura. A certified threat, and a verified asshole.

Elijah having the time of her life watching you suffer during volume 3 is the mark of a true RWBY fan. She is One of Us for sure XD

Kind of an insult to her intelligence. It's kind of very explicit what it does in both shown examples. You can literally see it working in the show and it's even more obvious in the trailer. I literally said nothing even most people wouldn't have figured out by paying attention to what happened. He literally GLOWS when absorbing attacks and then glows when attacking. The only way they could be more obvious would be if they had commentators explaining it like they did with Nore.

I'm not insulting her intelligence, I'm telling you that the show explains it later, so let her find out that way instead of acting like you're doing her a favour. Where's the fun in just having it explained by someone else when the answer will come eventually in the show itself? Velvet's one thing, but let things being explained in the show BE explained in the show when the time comes instead of spoiling. So simple, really.

The reveal of velvets weapons and abilities after she was told not to use them back during the train attack is one of my absolute favorite moments in rwby.

Juane gets a lot of hate over this. I get it, he really screwed up, but he has only a few months at Beacon to get into a Huntsman mindset and no other training at all. Adam remains Adam and one of the most hated characters in the series (though there has been competition depending on who/when you ask) Keep Elijah on hand, you will need her as you go into the Real Story of RWBY.

Could be. But honestly, using robots for aura experimenting is more ethical than alternative methods. We dont know the full details (especially from a v3 standpoint) but a lot more horrible things could be done than Penny from an ethical point of view. Although some ethical violations with Penny's existence are there too.

I honestly realistically could never count it as a spoiler. For reactors they might be more strict in what they classify as a spoiler and want to go into a show as blind as possible, but let’s be honest Adams semblance was never a secret. Everyone in the RWBY community knew his semblance long before they outright explained it. It’s not meant to be a grand reveal or a secret and it won’t change honestly a single thing in regards to her reactions or feelings. Maybe you can technically call it a spoiler, but it’s a completely inconsequential one. Besides a lot of characters don’t get an explanation for their semblance and is simply something you have to deduce yourself. I can’t really fault anyone that gives explanations on any of the semblances in the comments as long as it’s something that is easy to deduce based on what the reactor has watched and is clearly not meant to be a big secret from the creators perspective. Regardless, you said yourself that she doesn’t read the comments or at least doesn’t have to, and thankfully she has Elijah to clear up anything that confuses her. Explanations on certain things like this can be helpful to the others watch her reaction. I’ve seen people comment explanations or fun facts about inconsequential things before that I hadn’t known about despite having been a longtime fan.

So Velvet’s Semblance is Photographic Memory. She copies fighting styles of those she observes, though she cannot copy their Semblances. Her “weapon” is Anesidora, her special camera. It captures images of gear in fine detail so as to simulate their full range of movements. The mimicked hard-light gear will only last for a few hits (why Coco has held her off earlier from using it). Even without Anesidora’s copies, Velvet’s Photographic Memory lets her recall the fighting styles, quickly switching and even combining them, which makes her a difficult opponent. And obviously a talented and strong fighter on her own just to be able to take on these styles as needed (probably spars with Fox and Yatsuhashi regularly). Roman,…I’m kind of sorry to see him go. He was certainly an opponent with style and flair. That “A Clockwork Orange” homage. GEN Ironwood and his condition is really only a surprise to the audience. I’m sure the history of how he was wounded so badly and needed such an extensive cybernetic rebuild is known. But like some he chooses to keep his prosthetics “tastefully” covered. The high society in Atlas likely prefer not to see physical reminders of the cost of Hunters and soldiers can end up paying. Again…WHY is the hallway so long and ceiling so vast in the vaults under the Academy when there is only one item of interest?!? Can we maybe exploit this some more? Will they later in the show? I think people unfairly judge Jaune in his role in the events in the vaults. Ozpyn did not provide him any information as to what was going on. So when he hears the woman he is in love with crying out in extreme pain, and not knowing this is likely an effect of a procedure, he’s probably to lose focus for a moment. Just bad timing there. And no one is expecting a stealthy Cinder to get within bow range. Likely everyone, Ox included, is thinking the first thing coming down the elevator will be a bunch of Grimm (don’t ask me how they’d work the controls) or White Fang.

I'm still sad that Roman died so early in the show. I loved his design, his personality and way of thinking and seeing the world, and him and Neo as a duo. I would've LOVED to see more of him, but I think I get why they got rid of him, and I understand it, but it still sucks. He's still one of my favorite characters though, 6 volumes after his death.
