Remember them When the fire begins to fade, for the fallen and afraid We'll not let them die in vain 🔥

I definitely love Athena. You can see in her face what Ody said hurt her feelings

CrowOfAFeather

"Did he actually drop the baby?" Lol, you must've suppressed the memory because you got clear evidence last video and had a pretty strong reaction to it xD "I'm convinced he didn't drop the baby" Not only did he do it, the scene with just the hand letting go was added later by the artist BECAUSE people were unsure if he dropped the baby or not. Plus it's what he does in the Odyssey. The Cyclops Saga is my personal favourite because of the first two songs and this design for the Cyclops ^^ Can't wait to see you react to the next saga!

This saga doesn't have a lot of misconceptions but there are a few details left out as well as missing cultural context. So Polyphemus, and the Cyclopses in general, are "the other" in Greek myth. They are barbarians and are unwilling to adhere to the sacred rites of hospitality. In The Odyssey, Odysseus and his men did in fact eat some of the fruits and cheeses and meats that Polyphemus had out but intended to exchange their wine as repayment. Polyphemus effectively said "nah, fuck that" and trapped them in his cave by sealing it with a boulder. He then proceeded to kill and eat two men every day until Odysseus came up with a plan. Lotus was not used in the story as the wine is super potent. EPIC also implies that Odysseus had the chance to outright kill Polyphemus, which was not the case in The Odyssey. They had to escape or they would die. Side note, had Odysseus did as much as raised his voice to Athena, she would have wiped him from the planet. The Olympians did not tolerate disrespect, from mortal or immortal alike. The Olympians were pretty much the only ones who could disrespect each other but even then that had its limits. Zeus especially never tolerated disrespect.

You can see Polites holding the baby

The Glacial Arcana of Kassandra Vexus

I believe Jorge said that ody did drop the baby. its also heavily implied that he did in many animatics, also he do so in the actual story of the odyssey.

Fun fact: for the song just a man from the last saga. Jorge made it that when the music at the end of the song drops so does the baby.

Polyphemus + Survive: I love mircsy's design for the Cyclops. Absolutely metal. I also just love some of the cinematic choices mircsy made. Like showing the baby and then blinking and it turning into Poly on "it's just one life to take" like... geez it's so good. While he is using a voice changer, I love that both these songs are just Jorge singing with himself. That baby dead, friend. Gigi even added that hand letting go to the end of their animatic after Jorge confirmed that he did. Remember Them: The guitar is so good on this one, not gonna lie. It almost makes me forgive the fact that Ody is a big dummy dumb and basically doxxes himself! WHY ARE YOU LIKE THIS ODY!!! I get why, he let his hubris lead. He was angry and wanted throw salt in the cyclops wound. Athena (in this story) also just really ticked him off cuz she was being Athena so.... But still. Ody. Why! My Goodbye: TEAGAN!!!!!! My queen! Light of my life! I love her voice so much. Anytime she sings I'm so happy. Oh My Goodbye… I understand where both of them are coming from to some extent. Athena is right, Ody was incredibly reckless with some of his choices made in this saga. HOWEVER! Athena came at this all wrong. The man is grieving the loss of his men and she just comes in like “wow bro, you really messed that up and let your emotions lead.” So of course Ody gets defensive, fires back at her which only drives the wedge deeper. Hubris and poor communication. Truly the downfall of so much. Especially in Greek myth.

Its interesting to always see people so sure Odysseus didn't drop the baby, even after animatics that show it haha -- to me the fact that he did is what makes his character so interesting (and while I know people say that he is softened in this as compared to The Odyssey and I wouldn't say that's untrue, I do actually feel like a lot of this stuff comes through in a similar way here as well). I like that he is someone who contains these different sides: someone who can be so loving toward his family, who is so determined to try and get himself and his crew home alive, and is (and has always been) ALSO someone who has waged war and killed for ten years and is willing to personally kill a baby if he believes he has to. And I think there's a lot more going on in the lyrics of earlier songs that really emphasize this aspect of his character, that people tend to overlook. One in the "Just a Man" song in particular, but I'll come back to that later.

Zora Brightwood

Fun Fact: Every Character has their own Ensemble with Ody his is his soldiers for the gods they can make their own ensembles to whatever or whoever they want.

As Lucifer once said, "Sooooo... who's up for pancakes?" Im sorry. Im sorry, I had too XD

Something that's really interesting about what you said regarding Epic and RWBY, the reason what happened with RWBY parallels with the Odyssey so well is that basically every piece of Western media parallels with the Odyssey or the Illiad in some major way. This is the single most influential piece of writing in the Western world. Pretty much every piece of a work you've ever read can trace their DNA back to this one shared ancestor. (Which is truly incredible to think about. Imagine if in 2000 years the Elves of Amoranth was the foundational text for basically all fiction in existence, lol.) Also, what if killing the baby is WHY he didn't kill the Cyclops?

Phoenix_mercury

Yes asty was dropped, mosco is aware but... Forgot 🤣

Phoenix_mercury

🤣🤣🤣 nice to find one in the wild!!

cosmotron

oh I know, I was speaking more generally, not really specifically about Mosco.

Ferret

In fairness, when we were still early in the releases it *was* ambiguous. Like, Gigi didn't actually have the "drop" in their original video for Just A Man, it was only when they combined the two into one video after it was confirmed he dropped an infant from a wall so we all don't die.

Ferret

Point of order, Astyanax isn't in the Odyssey, or the Iliad for that matter. That story is from a different collection of the Epic Cycle (the poems that Homer compiled into the Iliad and the Odyssey). There are also multiple versions of it, only some of which were Odysseus drops him. Others have Nero or Pyrrhus do it.

Ferret

"Nobody" is one of the oldest puns we're actually able to reasonably understand in modern translations, and one of my personal favorites. In the original Ancient Greek it's an even better pun, as the word "Nobody" translates to "Outis" making it a sort of pun on Odysseus's actual name as well. And then Ody goes and ruins it by doxxing himself.

HeroNotFound

Oh boy, if you think this was bad just you wait!

HeroNotFound

Hey Mosco, Odysseus did absolutely kill that child, that’s what the hand opening meant. The reason he’s trying to show mercy from this point onwards is out of guilt for that action

Odysseus is famous for his intelligence, but his achille's heel is his arrogance.

I was looking for this comment! I was going to be so disappointed if it wasn’t here!

Phoenix_mercury

🤣 same! I was hunting and if their wasn't one already I was gonna do the dang thing myself!🤣🤣

Considering PTSD is a thing, no human will ever be able to be the kind of warrior Athena wants. The ultimate fighter who will fight battle after battle and win all the glory until they pass, cannot logically exist And while she may be too proud to face that reality, she may deep down already know. Hence why Ody's permitted to say his piece, as any other god would've ended him for talking back

So!! Cyclopse saga!! I want to preface that one of the biggest changes that Jorge did that clashes so viciously with the Odyssey is this saga. To start with; Polyphemus. So as mentioned before xenia is A REALLY BIG DEAL to the Greeks. It was a constant theme in the Odyssey and a source of so many of Odysseus’ boons (when xenia is upheld) and problems (when xenia is violated). In this part of the epic, when the crew arrived on the island, it was obvious from the start that this cave was someones home. Which meant it was in the domain of xenia. Ody and his crew waited patiently for Polyphemus to return and invoked his aid, as per xenia, to provide shelter and food for his crew. Now what happened? Polyphemus VIOLATED xenia. Instead of giving respite to the sailors like he was obligated to, he immediately sealed up the cave with a rock and started eating the crew. Now Epic? Odysseus is the one who violated xenia. He and his crew broke into someones home (even if he didn’t know its someones home doesn’t change that it was a violation of xenia. People irl don’t get a free pass for home invasion just because they ‘didn’t know someone lived here’.) Killed one of his sheep, and instead of APOLOGIZING, Ody tried to brush it all under the rug with “Yeah well, we killed your friend so have some spiked wine in return”. In ancient Greece, Ody would have been the most cancelled king out there for that. He is the one who escalated things. Blinding the cyclops!! What Ody did was a huge deal, you don't mutilate someone like that and not finish them off. The ancient greeks were terrible. They were misogynistic. They were racist. They were very ableist. Blinding the cyclops and denying a proper death was, by no fucking means, a mercy. So not only is sparing Poylphemus going to cause Ody problems in the future because he had to be a dumbass and dox himself, but he did THE CRUELIST THING POSSIBLE by blinding him but forcing him to live. So if you ask yourself when Ody becomes a monster: it's this saga. Now I will give Epic this: in the poem Odysseus handles the doxing aspect even worse, because Odyssey!Odysseus had some very important knowledge about who Polyphemus was that Epic!Odysseus does not have atm, information that would make any ration person think twice before mocking and taunting the person he just mutilated. (Hell, even in the poem, Polyphemus is blindly hurling rocks at them while Ody keeps taunting him and his own crew is going "What the fuck Odyseus, please shut the fuck up." - ["Hard one, why are you trying once more to stir up this savage man, who just now threw his missile in the sea, forcing our ship to the land again, and we thought once more we were finished; and if he had heard the voice of any of us speaking, he would have broken all our heads and our ships timbers with a cast of a great jagged stone, so strong is his throwing"] Book 9, line 494-450, his crew trying to explain to Ody that the more he taunts, the more at risk he puts the crew, not that Ody cares) Now My Goodbye? This song is in my top 3 for songs I absolutely despise because of how Jorge writes the gods. Musically its good, the piano is beautiful, the vocals are lovely. The lyrics and story make my blood boil. By no means, by no fucking means, should Ody have survived that encounter. You don’t talk to a god like that. You don’t treat yourself as EQUAL to a god. You don’t talk shit to a god. But that is a thing with Epic, Jorge really wants Ody to be seen as right up there on the same level as the gods, like they’re peers. When that’s not how it works. It also defeats one of the main aspects of the Odyssey: In the poems, Odysseus begs to know why Athena abandoned him, only for Athena to reveal that she never left him. That she had trusted and believed in him, knew that he would be fine, that he didn’t need her guidance and hand-holding to make it home. And while she wasn’t directly there at his side, she never once abandoned or left him. Now Polites dying here was another change. Not only did Jorge inflate his importance, but he killed him off super early. In the epic, he most likely survived to either book 10 or 12. So its hilarious to me that he was given so much importance only to be killed off immediately.

I'd have figured Mosco was done having favorites when she saw how things go in RWBY. :) And yes...my favorite leaders are also Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin. Or as I call them...Felon 47 & the International War Criminal

Tallulahbell

Noooo you were looking down and missed one of the best shots in the second animatic! Odysseus turns the sword and it reflects the Cyclops eye

elly

im like a month and a half late but i just saw your troy saga reaction and youtube and RAN here odysseus did in fact give the cyclops a name in the first song, “polyphemus.” when polyphemus asks “stranger, whats your name?” odysseus replies with “my name is nobody.” he’s incredibly smart and knew to not give his name but in the aftermath of his men dying, he had a very human reaction to his victory of getting away and let his arrogance speak instead of his intelligence which (as you know because you’ve already watched most of the musical) does in fact come back to bite him in the ass
