I think Vox was hoping for Charlie to slip up when he asks her if she thinks he could be redeemed. If she said no and they had that on camera, there’s a good chance that would have been enough to damage the hotel permanently. That’s my theory at least.

alovieruu

they sing a whole song about trying to find a way to heaven, they’re going to try and redeem themselves in order to take over.

Thomas

Dude. Alex brightmen is so good.

I really like this show for a lot of reasons, but it is stressful when they start to play into certain sterotypes about sw-ers with angel. Especially for something that prides itself on being so visually explicit + exploring themes of abuse. I hope they are being thoughtful about where they are going with this.

Annieme

That Cherri/Sir P song was cute

I feel like everyone was justifiably angry this episode(especially Angel), but i honestly can't really be upset at any of them. Charlie overstepped, but this day has been *extremely* overwhelming and hectic for her. Remember, literally just before the start of the episode, all of episode 1 happened as well. She was trying to cling to the good news she heard, but went too far. Husk *did* encourage Angel to go along with Charlie's plan at first, but him getting upset at Angel for jumping in front of that train makes sense. Husk didn't want Angel to sacrifice his afterlife. If Vaggie hadn't shown up, Husk would end up with survivor's guilt. I don't have to explain how Angel's anger was justified. We all know it was. But i do hope that him and Charlie repair their friendship after what just happened because i loved their sibling-like dynamic

Nightley

I wonder if that brief static in response to Charlie's straight answer was Vox being tiny bit unnerved of a thought about possibility of redemption.

xman t

I kind of think vox was asking if he could be redeemed because he's still currently looking for a way to actually get up to heaven, but i could be completely wrong

TheOcelotKing

Important to note Angeldust himself noted that his therapy sessions with Charlie have been going well. Charlie is far from selfish, and I don't really understand why everyone's reaction to this episode has been so strong. Do people not understand how incredibly stressful her job is? Clearly, when she is working directly with people, she does well. Otherwise, Angel wouldn't have said what he did about the therapy sessions.

Jessica V

Vox's smile is sinister like he has an idea how to attack heaven

Tammy Ragsdale

The cartoon villain reference is Snidely Whiplash, originally from the Dudely Do Right cartoon, but he sort of blended into a lot of Hannah Barbara cartoons. That's most cartoons from when I was growing up. So, he'd be in those other shows or there would be a reference to him.

Suplee215

The problem here is that Charlie is doing this alone and trying to do it her way. With one big action to get redemption. Im not sure thats hiw it works. She got employees but at the end of the day the hotel is on her. Which puts a ton of responsibility on her and also gives her the final say. I predict the season will end with charlie giving ownership of the hotel to the entire group in a board situatjon.

Suplee215

Also my guess is Angel killed his dad to protect Molly.

Angelus Lupus

Mosco, if you could 'be normal about cartoons' it wouldn't be so fun to watch you!

Nurydian

Charlie's sin "Forcing your good intentions on others is no different than an evil act."

Animegirl

I think the train scence was a nod to the show Rocky & Bullwrikle.

Elias Cristerna

I'm pretty sure the old school cartoon villain Charlie is cosplaying as is Dick Dastardly a villain in many classic Hanna-Barbera cartoons such as Wacky Races and Dastardly and Muttley in Their Flying Machines

Yoshinatorsaurus

I doubt the reason Angel killed his dad has to do with sexual abuse, simply because it's too predictable. Plus, if I doubt Heaven would consider self-defense killings to be a sin. Given his established backstory of being a gangster in the 40's. I'm guessing his dad was the leader of the mob and some crazy mafia misunderstanding happened. Either that or he was a piece of shit, Angel did it to protect Molly, and so it's not actually what got him into Hell, but Angel's convinced it is.

Havoc 13

I swear vaggie is going to have the most valid crash out of 2025 at Charlie at this rate.

Rupert Anderson Jr

I think Charlie is going to get a lot of hate this season.

SammyDaPonk

I took the question “Do you think I could be I redeemed?” From vox as him indirectly asking if he could undo his own sin, to get inside heaven, and thus take power. And the smile after I took to be both offense at Charlie’s persistence, and him getting the answer he wanted.

David Johnson

Busting walls in the Hotel is kinda traditional at this point.

David Johnson

Or possibly Snidely Whiplash from "Dudley Do-Right." Or possibly even Dan Backslide from the WB short "The Dover Boys." Indeed, it's probably an homage to the whole genre.

Phoenix_mercury

It could easily be sexual abuse, at the time period his father could have easily been an absolute pos and abused him in multiple ways(especially bcz of his homosexuality, I sadly wouldn't be surprised if his father tried to "fix" him or attempted some kind of "conversion") or it's definitely possible he killed in protection of his sister, maybe his father was threatening Molly to possibly get to him

CrowOfAFeather

I'm not entirely sure why you're surprised/disappointed that Velvette is a bad guy, Viv has even said that she's just as bad the as the other Vees xD But yeah, Asmodeus called it "artificial bullshit" and here she is concocting the stuff :/ Even the Sin of Lust doesn't approve of what she does. Between these two new episodes I had a difficult time making it through Charlie being interviewed and not listening to Vaggie...Poor gal. I hope she settles down and actually listens from here on. Wasn't Angel's dad a mobster? That would explain a lot. This was a great episode and great reaction, now to the next one! ^^

jellybrigades

“I clearly know what I’m doing because Pentious was redeemed, so why take criticism from anyone if my actions are right? And now I finally have the opportunity to rub my success in the face of everyone who doubted me i.e. all of Hell.” —Charlie

Albedo12

The love song (incidentally titled "Piss (A Love Song)") had me tearing up. I wonder if Pen is going to return to hell just as Cherri redeems herself, or is that too much of a cliche for this show?

Vince

I’m with you, I think Molly met her fate at her father’s hands and that’s why Angel killed him and eventually overdosed.

Albedo12

LIkewise the office wall in Helluva. I think Vivzie just really hates walls.

Stephen Mumford

Yep, definitely an homage to the whole mustache-twirling villain genre, but probably more specifically her "Danny Do-Bad" as a direct inversion of "Dudley Do-Right."

Stephen Mumford

Interesting point about Charlie being selfish; you can tell her intentions are good, but, well, as the saying goes, the road to hell, etc., etc. AlsoAshley recently had a video on her channel about similar scenarios, where the well-meaning intent of something by allies can sometimes backfire because they (or rather, we, as I'm in that category) simply do not have the same lived experiences that the people they are trying to support do. And since we don't have that same emotional attachment to such situations, that often can lead to blind spots where we don't realize how our attempts to help might just be causing more unintentional distress. I think Charlie is very much that same sort of person; her desperate desire TO help obscures HOW to help.

Pearl

Yeah I was very disappointed in Charlie in this episode. And the whole lore with Angel was a bit of a shock

Simon Davis

Yup, they're both playing off the villains of the slapstick silent film era - though IIRC Snidely Whiplash predates Dick Dastardly by around a decade so I image Dastardly is also taking some inspiration from Snidely himself. And the name makes clear which is the primary reference.

Gab Gab

You need to start going “Charlie… NO!” Like with Catra

CaptainChar

charlie's villian is likely Dick Dastardly

Costia Rose

This one was sooooo hard to watch... just wanting to slap a hand over Charlie's mouth practically the whole episode..

Someday Sera

Given she calls her self Danny Do Bad, snidely wiplash is probably a good bet. To be fair though, snidely and dastardly are...basically the same character.

Someday Sera

This one definitely had that early helluva boss manic vibe. Really loved the exaggerated faces etc as Charlie just kinda...spiraled into madness throughout the episode.

Someday Sera

agreed, Charlie is pretty clearly not in a good state of mind, as happy as she is, there is definitely a sense of panic and desperation throughout that keeps escalating into worse and worse decisions.

Chris P3

And since that short is in the public domain, a brief snippet of it could be seen during the pilot.

NeoScarlet

Prediction: I had a lot of the same assumptions that Mosco did when it was revealed that Angel's sin that got him into Hell was murdering his--likely abusive--father, but if we're going along with that then there's a pretty dreadful answer to the question of "What could Angel do to redeem himself of such a sin?" I think the answer is that instead of taking a life, Angel would have to forgive someone and spare a life--very likely one in a similar "abusive father" type of role, i.e. Valentino. Furthermore, it definitely is interesting to consider the possibility that Angel murdered his abusive father in order to protect his sister--or maybe it's that he tried to channel all of their father's abuse towards himself to protect his sister, but then his father killed her or abused her/assaulted her, and thus Angel killed him in turn? Considering that potential context, it's interesting how much we saw even in season 1 that Angel is very protective of Nifty--like when she started interacting with Valentino/Val started taking an interest in her and Angel stood in between her and Valentino--taking all the abuse for himself and protecting Nifty. As for Vox's reaction to Charlie's affirmation that even he could be redeemed, personally I think it's a simple matter of Vox being a manipulative reporter. Sure, he can doctor up the footage and "spin" the story to suit his own narrative, but I think what he really wants is to uncover a REAL scandal--and that if Charlie had instead admitted that all of what she's doing is some sort of game or a falsehood, then broadcasting that story would be the ultimate experience for a "reporter/broadcaster" like Vox.

Kitsune Kokoro

Yep, with the name inspired by Dudley Do-Right

Ryan

Oh to be a fly on the wall in your neighbor's flat as they hear you screaming, "I CAN BE NORMAL ABOUT CARTOONS!" while they're waiting for the kettle. Thing is, Vox is an unreliable narrator. And his information is second hand from Valentino. So I don't think we have the full story. More thoughts on it in the reply, but trigger warning - my theory is very dark.

Ryan

My theory is that Angel Dust's father was abusing Molly, and she got caught in the cross fire when Angel tried to put an end to it. Doesn't matter whose bullet hit her, Angel would blame himself. That's why he overdosed. I hope it's not true, but given how dark "Addict" and "Poison" have been...

Dinker

I would either say sparing a life or protecting/sacrificing his own life for a perceived parental figure would be the redemptive act. I can't comment on Angel's relationship with his father, but I feel Valentino is far too villainous a character to have a positive or even neutral end. In the end I hope the most important thing Valentino adds to Angel's story line is a reinforcement that abuse doesn't have to shape, define or even matter to your story; your life is what you make of it.

William Wilson

I really like how in this episode Charlie’s PRIDE gets the better of her

RavenFairy

In the song cherry sings she said “Since 89” that means Cherry’s been there since 1989 dose explain the punk rock a lot

TheCasualNerd

Im glad Im not the only one who seriously struggled with the secondhand embarrassment and "charlie no!" feels. I struggled so much recording my reaction lol

Void Fairy

Danny Do-Bad is a play on the old Dudley Do-Right cartoon, which had a villain named Snidley Whiplash that dressed in a similiar purple outfit with mustache. There is a a 1999 live action movie with Brendan Fraser playing Dudley Do-Right, you should do a reaction to it! xD

Chance

Hey, buddy, can you put a headphone warning? And next time, that would be very appreciated.Thank you.I'm already dead in one morning.\nI'm sorry, just please headphones in on the picture on video.Have a dress night

Vex Valor

My theory of Angel's sin is that their father was physically abusive and attacked Molly. Molly was gravely injured and Angel killed their father in self defense, but Molly was too far gone to save and she died as well that night so Angel blames himself for her death. Possibly Molly got attacked in relation to something Angel did which would make him blame himself even more. So how do you repent for the murder? Reconcile with Molly over his grief on her death because that was the actual sin, not killing their abusive father. I think whatever they feel guilty over is what their sin is.

Scorrel

Just noticed with Baxter and Pentious' labs; despite being a bio engineer, Baxters half looks mechanical and cold, nothing natural. But Pentious' side has teeth, a clock that almost looks like a veined yolk, eyes. Despite being a mechanical engineer, Pentious was closer to the natural world than the one who messed with it. Baxter is cold and clinical and removes the nature from biology

Thundefair

as a fellow huskerdust shipper i also simp for them
