Weiss Schnee, Best Girl!

Timothy Emeigh

As Oz said in the scene itself, he had to give up his own power to grant it to the maidens. He also then gave up more to Qrow and Raven. Cinder likely beat him because she simply had more magic at this point. He's 'spent up' in a sense.

BGTitan

Ep 7: So the whole conversation with Oz about Raven is what leads me to believe that Raven and Qrow's allusions are Hugnin and Munin, the two black birds known as the Eyes of Odin. First of all, both Raven and Qrow's symbols look like eyes. So that's a good start. Then there's also the obvious of them turning into birds and working for our Odin stand in here (Oz). But the story of the Eyes of Odin, if I'm remembering correctly, also had one of the birds betraying and abandoning Odin, which Raven did. And of course there's Salem's comment after Tyrian poisons Qrow about "the last eye is blinded." So. Yeah. Fun facts. Anywaaaaaay.... Ep 8: While the conversation back in V2 is where I really started shipping Bees for serious, I know people who have shipped them since the trailers purely on aesthetic and then it only spiraled from there. This episode. Honestly I think this is easily in my top three of the season. Could possibly be my favorite. And you're reaction to it all was glorious. I love the whole interaction between Weiss and Yang. Both voice actresses killed it and the instrumental of Path to Isolation in the background. Ugh! So good. “How can I be there for her if she doesn’t let me? What if I needed her here for me?” Owwwwww… Baby girl…. Blake’s show of growth was so good. I’m so proud. Could have easily went to that meeting with Ilia by herself but no, she asked Sun to have her back. So good. Finally, I want to give it up to Cherami Leigh as the voice of Ilia. She does righteous anger so well and nailed her big scene here. Oh, Ilia. You poor, misguided girl. Also, I love that the reveal with her isn't used as a "this is why she's doing this" but that Ilia reveals the fact that she had a crush on Blake to show Blake that she didn't know Ilia as well as she thought she did.

Wilhelm Hedin

They were always throwing their map around...

Philip Dunn

The fight between Ozpin and Cinder, I always thought, maybe he threw the fight or at least allowed himself to be killed. Knowing he would reincarnate as someone else, it didn't matter to him, victory was not his plan at the time, only the survival of those who could help stop Salem in the end. If he dies he'll move to a new host as he did with Oscar, and he can hide away from the enemy while continuing to train the group.

Etheriell

The bumblebee ship actually started way back in volume one. Same with white rose. But I would say that the big kickoff for it was definitely that I'll save you a dance scene, I think that's when it took over as the number one ship. Fun fact, at least from what I remember back then, the very first fanfic was a white rose shipping story, but what was funny was it was done after the white trailer dropped so they didn't even know the character names lol. And it was very OOC for Ruby. It was pretty accurate for Weiss, but the writer definitely did not get Ruby's character lol, mostly cuz there wasn't much to go off of. But yeah, the partner pairing ships have pretty much been there from volume one, but they really solidified more I think in volume two, and it was the I'll save you a dance seeing that pushed bumblebee to become the premier RWBY ship.

SportySpice

I get people found V5 slow week to week, but it’s really full of so many great character moments that it’s one of my favorites. Also love the callout that Weiss sits like she’s in a pageant, Ruby sits like a kid, and Yang just manspreads. Gotta say, I was definitely mischievously waiting for you to get to Weiss and Yang’s big scene since it’s just Yang crying over another girl. I’m Bumbleby through and through, but I can respect your willpower. I love Weiss and Yang’s dynamic and see the appeal— I definitely see them more platonic in that they get to have a normal sister relationship w each other (given they have weird parental relationships with their own sisters) but they do look good together aesthetically. Also, Blake as the harem protagonist confirmed.

Dillon Hansel

The truly ideal ship with Yang is a thruple with her, Weiss, and Blake. The best part of it is that the ship name for the 3 of them is Bee's Schnees, which is far funnier to me than it should be.

morthasa

Did Mosco legitimately have a "Some of my best friends are straight!" moment?

JAMES D'ALESSANDRO

His powers are dwindeling. There are so many questions you can have with that info. Like, why can't he take those powers away or why can't you change how the power is transferd.

.

I believe that if Weiss ends up with someone, it will be with Jaune. Like sure, at first, they weren't on the same page and she didn't especially like him due to his immaturity, but she also had her faults, she was spoiled and snobbish. But I feel like after both their personal growth, I can easily imagine them together. I would've liked Jaune to end up with Pyrrha, but since it's not ever possible...I feel like Weiss would be the best choice for him now, and him for her.

Timothy Emeigh

One of her reasons for not liking him was also not true, and it was pretty directly contrasted in the scenes. She talks about "boys only want me for my name", and then he goes on about "smart, talented, have you heard her sing?"

Annieme

And a “pip pip cheerio” to you too mosco xD

SQX Barto

Thai wasn't always a good father. After Summer disappeared, he got so depressed that he neglected the girls completely. For a time, Yang practically raised Ruby by herself (or maybe even more help from Qrow than Tai).

Hollyhock

A poem about Hugin and Munin is written on the chalkboard during the burning the candle scene where Yang talks about her family. Easy to miss but pretty cool. And it basically confirms the allusion

Dre

Personally Weiss gave off very strong comphet vibes in the early volumes to me haha

Ryan

Chapter 7: I love these "reintroduce the characters" scenes. In a few minutes we get a reminder of who all the girls are and where they are in their journey. And it reinforces the fact that they can all eat. Which makes sense - they're teenagers and trained warriors. They probably need three to four thousand calories a day, and may have been on travel rations for weeks or months. Salt pork and hardtack, anyone? Bold of you to assume Tai was the top in team STRQ... Chapter 8: CRWBY: "We bring you Weiss lore!" Mosco: "It's trauma, isn't it?" CRWBY: "Did I fucking stutter?" CRWBY: "We bring you Ilia lore!" Mosco: "It's trauma, isn't it?" CRWBY: "Yes, but gay!" ---- All of us here trying to remain calm as you spot what you think are bread crumbs the writers are leaving for you... maybe some of them are even really there.

Taigan

Alone together is my favorite Elijah reaction video to watch. The way she picks up on all the Blake/Yang stuff and then her freak out at Ilia’s confession. I never get tired of that.

Nurydian

I have been thinking about this, but to me it seems that Oscar and his past selves is much like what they did in Doctor Who in that each Self didn't think their past Self did it right and there for doesn't like the other Selves.

Nurydian

Add to the fact is in this episode, Team RWBY and JNPR were talking about their past actions wish they could change somethings.

Dafydd Mac an Leigh

Ruby at 8:01: "Did it bleed a lot? DiD tHeY lEt YoU kEeP tHe OlD oNe?"

Dafydd Mac an Leigh

Also, the piano playing "Path To Isolation" while Weiss talks about her mother's alcoholism is a perfect example of why I love the score so much

Christopher Pope

I suspect what makes Qrow & Raven's power so distasteful to the group is perhaps Remnant's dominant culture has an age-old sense of at least certain animals as unclean, that having an animal form would be degrading and naturally viewed as a curse. Probably due to the evil of the Grimm, possibly connected with prejudices against Faunus, or heteromorphs in My Hero Academia. Less "I have a superpower" and more "witch turned me into a frog."

supersoaker

12:23 "Hey, you make it sound like I used to be terrible" Vol 1, referring to Sun and the Faunus in general - "I'm sorry, would you like me to stop referring to the trashcan as a trashcan or this lamppost as a lamppost"

Isadora

I don't think Ilia was aware of what really happened between Blake and Adam; in fact, up till now she appears very supportive of Adam's methods (when she interrupted Ghira's speech, she mentioned Adam as the one that could truly help the faunus), and considering her crush on Blake, she wouldn't have agreed about bringing her back to Adam if she knew how he really treated her.

EmberPanther

Chapter 8 has always been one of my all time favorite chapters, and so much of the scene with Yang and Weiss makes me want to just hug them both. Like, CRWBY, please let these girls have some peace!

Suplee215

I am personally of an opinion that Ilia is another victim of Adam's manipulation. And while she may be a little bit aware of who he is, she isnt fully still and still thinks he got the best for the faunus in mind. My guess is after Blake left, he took interest in Ilia just to have someone she cares for in arms reach to manipulate her. Doesn't excuse what Ilia is doing here either as it is wrong but I do think its helpful to view Adam's section of the White Fang as a cult and Ilia still in it.

JAMES D'ALESSANDRO

Yes, please stop with the extra love for Weiss. I said it before but she is my favorite. Like you , she grew on me, and i don't want to lose her. Maybe just like her a little., instead of a lot.

JAMES D'ALESSANDRO

This was the episode that made me say i needed Yang and Blake to be together forever. I was ok with Blake hooking up with Sun or Yang till this point. Blake apparently can get all the pus...um girls that she wants. ...and I agree with you. I have always shipped Ruby with Weiss and still do. I want those four to always be together. With that said I feel she and Juane will end up together. Yang foreshadowed this for us in volume 1.

Sweg Money

Related to this I think some of the objection is the like instant paranoia you'd feel of knowing you could be being watched by any corvid

Wil DeYoung

Yang sits like that to make way for her massive balls. Just to preface this, that was a joke.

Gihellcy

Now I'm just thinking about Volume 5 Chapter 11 Ruh-roh- (I think Mosco mentionned she already recorded it, otherwise I will delete my comment)

Joe

Shcnees bees is the best ship. Weiss, Blake and Yang. If forever reason you read the RWBY fanfiction, Freazer Bern tends to have sadistic or depressing stories.

Jason S

Mosco praising up Weiss, then episode 11 happens. I say this knowing that Mosco has already watched the rest of the season, so it's not a spoiler.

Jason S

“Why do people say "grow some balls"? Balls are weak and sensitive. If you wanna be tough, grow a vagina. Those things can take a pounding.” -Betty White

LucidDreamWolf88

Laugh and joke about my hearing also, and cuz I had to amputate my ring finger on my right hand and I joke about that too. I’m always hey hi 4 lol

LucidDreamWolf88

Funny how raven left out the part to yang that her and Qrow made the choice to be able to turn into birds

Vegvisir92

have you ever been shot in the arm?...if not.. why do you think you can complain about others reactions to being shot in the arm?

Ryan

Too bad it wasn't your left ring finger. Then when nosy people ask "why aren't you married yet!?" you can hold unblinking eye contact and slowly raise your left hand.

Yannara Negre

I also got bi vibes from Yang since the trailer.

Blazestar25

It's so funny that you say you get straight vibes from Weiss, cause recently I introduced my sister (who's a lesbian) to the show, and I wanted to ask her what she thought. Cause I've never seen Weiss as gay too, and I wanted to ask if she's seeing anything that I'm not. Once we finished the show we were talking about it and I mentioned that White Rose was one of the most popular ships in the fandom, and she looked so confused. Her exact response was "What? No, I don't get any queer vibes from Weiss at all. That girls straight as f**k." So take comfort in knowing you're not the only one with that take, lol

Arashi

Whitley did mention 'mother's out drinking in the garden' back in Volume 4 when he was talking at Weiss. While the STRQ history is pretty spares, I'm some 90% positive that Summer was the team mom. In RWBY, it's very clearly Weiss. Oh, so you are a Full-Team Genes for STRQ? Yeah... good old memetic, 'any hole is the goal' Tai. Only was able to get definitive proof of the goal from two though. You don't need to worry about Ghira dying. See, while he does die here, his body was taken by the White Fang and, in volume 7, it is revealed that Adam had him cybernetically reanimated as his personal bodyguard/attack cat. Thankfully Ghira will be able to break the programing by the sight and voice of his true love, James Ironwood. It's a good thing that following his 'death', Khali went to seek comfort from her old girlfriend Willow and was able to get Atlas involved in the issue.

LucidDreamWolf88

I say that all time lol 😂 cuz I never really want to get married anyways. Plus I’m right handed too so would’ve definitely been better if it was my left lol

Nihilero

Heck yeah I frigging called it with Oz

James S

I get so amused at Mosco thinking she can stop bad things from happening to Weiss by pretending she's not a favorite character. Can't wait for the reaction to the Weiss becomes undead arc. Edit: Also, for the longest time during my first watch of RWBY, I was convinced that Ghira was some kind of great ape Faunus.

Cinder's Apologist

yes, keep succumbing to the Weiss propaganda :3 also I understand your feelings on her relationship prospects. I myself love to pair up Weiss with multiple girls (like Yang!) but can understand those who struggle to see any queer vibes with her. good eye for noticing how they seat, and by they I mostly mean YANG... yeah, Yang is going through it. I was sitting here begging you to keep watching as Yang started spouting off because no, she didn't know about Weiss's family history, not at that level. it might have been wrong of her to assume, but Weiss is correct in that their experiences of loneliness are still different. and so is Blake's. I was hoping you'd come around for Ilia once she made that confession. Elijah went through something pretty similar, it's actually hilarious... definitely go check out her reaction to that episode and that moment. no, Ilia did not know about Adam being abusive. it's not like Adam would have been publicly humiliating Blake in front of everyone else; his abuse was subtle. Ghira = Bagheera, the panther from The Jungle Book. so yes, feline Faunus. also yes, Tai and Qrow definitely fucked >.> (whenever you get to watching RWBY Chibi, there's a skit where Tai and Qrow have the divorced parents dynamic, just as a little incentive)

Cinder's Apologist

oh yeah. since this is the part of the volume where the fights pick up, fair warning that you'll start to see where the animation budget issues come into play. because some of the fight sequences are... not exactly stellar.

Rupert Anderson Jr

I think Cinder was able to beat Ozpin because he is not as powerful as he used to be. He said it himself, his power is dwindling. We've already seen that a one on one fight with a maiden is a losing battle.

milkystross

Ive always gotten queer vibes from Weiss because my girlfriend was EXACTLY like her when they were deeeeeep in comphet hell

Vex Valor

Tai x Qrow is a decently popular ship that I support as well. I do not doubt Tai has not flirted with Qrow before at least once especially after hearing about the time Qrow went to school in a skirt. I get bisexual deep in comphet vibes from Weiss. Though I don't believe anyone on team RWBY is straight. Let me dream. I am glad you picked up on Ilia! I was wondering if you were. I remember watching this season back when it aired and picking up on it as well. It was amazing finally having a queer character with lines saying that she was. This was back in 2017 so it was a pretty big deal. A lot of queer characters in animation prior was mostly subtext.

man-of-bvz1n3ss

Tai: Entire team, Qrow! Cinder beat Ozpin because he had divided his power so much that a Maiden is stronger than him. I really like how Blake shows intelligence here. She assumes Ilia is going to be spying on her, so she and Sun act like Blake is leaving without him. You only notice in hindsight and it's VERY subtle, but the way the camera pans to the seemingly empty trees around the house says it all. RWBY's characters are smart. We did get a line on Weiss' mom in Volume 4. She was "out drinking in the garden", according to Whitley. So she's still alive, but not in the best headspace. To be fair to Ilia, she's not CHOOSING to send Blake to Adam so much as Adam demanded Blake be brought to him and Ilia's just telling Blake what's going to happen. Still shitty though.

man-of-bvz1n3ss

Oh man, that's my favorite arc in the entire damn show.

morthasa

Oh, I didn't consider it offensive or anything. At that point she was clearly flailing trying to verbally backspace and the absence of malicious intent was obvious. That is part of what made it so funny that she ended up accidentally stumbling into the stereotypical "Defensive bigot" cop-out phrase.

man-of-bvz1n3ss

I know, that's what makes it so funny to me. Straight people getting the same treatment they tend to give LGBTQ+ people is both karmic and very ironic, which I appreciate.

Myrtenaster18

For Yangs sense of humor, her voice actress is a terrific pun master (depending on who you ask) so the fandom tends to treat her as a jokester/punner

Connor Hines

We all know all of SRQ were involved with Tai at one point or another.

Phoenix_mercury

yeah ilia is just a case of "*I* dont know what to do so i'll do this"(a kind of negative version of what Ren's dad said about the worst action to take being *no* action....)

Phoenix_mercury

yeah def outsider looking in "why did you leave him? he's great" without knowing(obvi) about what was actually happening

Wootcat

I strongly believe the way Raven phrased the event made it sound like she and Qrow were given the power without their consent "...what Ozpin did to my brother and me". Yang's anger instantly changes to surprise when Qrow states "We wanted this." After that, although she isn't altogether happy with Ozpin, she accepts that the power wasn't forced on them.

Vince

TAIYANG “WHOLE TEAM” XIAO LONG eta: Ozpin said his power is ‘finite and dwindling’ and he didn’t expend a lot of it fighting Cinder because he knew he’d reincarnate so he, for lack of a better term, ‘burned a body’ to get out of the situation.

Vic Walker

I'm late but let's go. Oz gave up A LOT of his power to gift it to the first maidens, so what he has left is not as big as before. Plus, Ozpin's body was old, the model wasn't that good showing his age, but he wasn't in his prime for some time. So it's not impossible for Cinder to defeat Ozpin back then, even though you could argue that she didn't have too much time to practice with her powers yet, compared with Oz experience.

thatguyravis

The curse isnt real, sure your favorite characters got hurt, but qrow and weiss didnt actually die 😅

Christopher Herrera

How did Ozpin lose to Cinder? Seconds earlier Oz explains that his powers are dwindling

Christopher Groenewald

21:42 Ozpin did just say that he's not as powerful as he used to be. His magic if finite and he gave away most of it when he created the maidens. He even pointed out that despite it being such a small and insignificant feat compared to creating the maidens, turning Raven and Qrow into birds still took a lot of the magic he had at the time. At this point in time I'd say Oz is probably still the most powerful character on the good guy side, but he's not that much more powerful. With out his cane, I'd argue that someone like Qrow could definitely hold his own against Ozpin. They wouldn't win, but they would still be able to put up a good fight.
