My favorite Grimm! The Apathy are effectively the support class, having weak strength and speed but excelling at debuff.

Martin E Melcher

Depression incarnate. My favorite Grimm as well

Dafydd Mac an Leigh

"Feeling cute. Might WEAPONIZE DEPRESSION today, idk" —Salem, at some point, presumably

Dre

Not me jumping ahead to see if Mosco saw the deliberate hand hold Yang did with Blake after they got out of the wine cellar

Dre

And probably the most painful Grimm to be killed by since they slowly tear you apart with those claws. 😰

Jason S

Mosco can be too perceptive for her own good sometimes.

morthasa

I knew of her aversion to the noises, but was unaware of her dislike for zombies (either way, I'm innocent: this was my first viewing of RWBY too). I hope Mosco never comes across Toben the Many though.

Ian Moscrop

Fun fact: Apathy was written before Volume 1 premiered. Miles Luna said they were too scary so they were shelved for a later volume.

cipher

"If this is like the gibdos or redead I'm out of here." me ... "ROFLMAO"

Mare

Argus was loosely based on San Francisco...one of the locations that Monty actually lived in and one of his favorite places to live. Maria was originally meant to debut in Volume 5, but the directors had to take her out because it was hard to balance out all the storylines. Also, she was supposed to originally have a cat and she was supposed to be found while Qrow was out searching for Huntsmen during V5.

Jason S

53:22 An Easter egg in the episode. The number on the back of the trolley car is the date this episode was first released.

Ryan

Be careful what you wish for! Wait, Elijah gave you a vague warning about this episodes, and then she left you alone!? Girl, what did you get her for Christmas to deserve this? A Lord Viren body pillow!? Mosco can have some domestic Sapphics, as a treat. And a promise that nothing else traumatic will happen this volume, right?

Hi-Viz

They also considered using them in V4, as a monster for RNJR to encounter during their journey

Celly

The calm before the storm. Like the food fight and dance episodes of volume 2. Or the carefree combats and school antics of early volume 3. Then the sh*t hit the fan. Mosco, like some others have said that you are far too good at prediction in this series and I've seen that many times now. Keep your stuffed friend close. Team RWBY and JNR (can't bring myself to include the P) are now in the San Francisco inspired Argus. Now the sightseeing of the statuesque beauty of Argus will lift our spirits, right? Have their discoveries of Ozma's secrets and their hollow, painful successes been all for naught? Time will tell.

Phoenix_mercury

Yeah I'm curious now if it's "just" an ick/dislike or if it's possibly actually a level of kinemortephobia

morthasa

Today I learned a new word. Sweet :)

Ian Moscrop

Yep I just read the trivia facts on wiki about them and Kerry's idea of how they kill was in Miles' words: "the darkest thing he's ever said."

JAMES D'ALESSANDRO

If Qrow wasn't drinking that bottle that fell out of his hands and woke up only Ruby maybe because she has silver eyes, then this would have been the last episode of this show. They never would have woke up.

Dillon Hansel

Don't worry, we ALL hate The Apathy as well. That's why I love that episode so much, it did such a great job at making me violently uncomfortable and introduced Grimm that were a new kind of terrifying.

KroganHorse

A cute detail that I love about episode 7 is the fact that the two that are fawning over baby Adrian, Yang and Weiss, are the only two members of this group that have younger siblings

CrowOfAFeather

V6 is a stellar volume. I understand the "nope" for the Apathy tho. But they are still interesting due to how they aren't ferocious, yet more dangerous than most other Grimm simply because they can make you stop wanting to run/fight. Weiss can't summon any Grimm she just kills. It has to be a foe that pushed her limits. Yep, Cinder wants to kill Ruby, but Salem wants her alive. So she's actively trying to get around it somehow. It's a reoccurring thing. "cool, good to see we get the cool fighting animations back-" There it is, I was wondering how long it'd take. Still gonna leave the reminder that CRWBY were still new to the Maya engine and could've done a lot more if a certain someone hadn't stolen from their budget. Hard to not respect that they managed what they did with what they had. Ahem. Always got a "San Francisco " vibe from Argus. Always nice with representation in any form, we got some in V5 too (Ilia of course and the couple at the beginning of V5 with the heart-shaped plant etc.)

Isadora

You could say that going down a well never goes down well ;D As for Weiss summoning the Apathy, I'm not sure how useful they'd be, since I don't think she can use the Grimms' innate abilities, just their physical strength, and the Apathy isn't strong.

CB Jones

I can't remember where it was said/ posted, but I remember part of the lore of the Apathy is that their "drain" effect isn't something they can direct and even affects other grimm, which is why they're generally only seen among groups of themselves (it's a sensible limitation to give them, having a grimm that can immobilise all humans while a Beowulf runs around at full speed biting heads off would be a bit hard to convincingly have our heroes defeat). Unfortunately it does mean that even if Weiss could summon them it wouldn't be a good idea to, it'd drain her as much as any enemy. But apparently they'd come up with the concept and outline of this episode back in Vol1, it didn't fit tonally or plot-wise back then so they kept kicking it down the road until they got here. And it fits so well at the perhaps teams lowest and most uncertain moment (SO FAR!) to face something that leeches that very drive to go on. It's fair to hate them but they're implemented perfectly.

Rachel Mae

Lowkey hilarious that Elijah apparently was like "good luck with these episodes! Ok byeeeee" at least she made it back in time for the next set 😂 I love the apathy arc so much. Such a nice little neatly contained mini arc among everything else thats going on

David Johnson

You got Zelda vibes, I got ones of the planet Miranda from the movie "Serenity."

TheCasualNerd

Elijah coming home at the precise time the sapphic couple was introduced is the most Elijah thing ever witnessed on Mosco's channel 😆

David Johnson

I got strong San Francisco vibes, especially as the bus thingy went down the hill to the sound of a cable car bell.

Symbolic Remnant

RWBY’s best arc IMO is the first half of V6, culminating in the Apathy. It’s got the whole backstory of the universe, AND a very effective Horror sequence (something the show rarely does) Also, Argus is basically a Snowy version of San Francisco (which, for an American city, has some of the oldest/most classic European-style architecture given that its major development came earlier than basically the whole rest of our west coast. It’s also named after an actual Earth City in Greece: Argos.

Albedo12

A sapphic called Saphron is a little on the nose.

Geass

It is interesting watching Alone in the Woods after knowing how it ends. Not just that everyone is tired, but that Ruby and Maria were the most resistant to it.

Cali Jester

Love how Qrow just fanboys out.

Ann_Temki

One of the og concept designs for the Apathy had them with spindly spider legs so it always could’ve been worse😭

RetroBeastto

I believe the city of Argus is based of San Francisco from California. I assume that because of the trollies, architecture, and bridge to the military base.

BGTitan

Ep 6: The Apathy were partially inspired by the story of Bartleby the Scrivener. To sum it up, it's a story about a man that became so apathetic to the world that he refused to eat or drink or move, stating that he'd "prefer not to" until he died. It was revealed by the writers that these Grimm were supposed to have made an appearance back in V1 but were deemed too powerful for that time in the show. They kept getting pushed back until, finally, V6. They seemed to have been made for this moment, in all honesty. Our heroes are at a severe low point. Their ability to trust Oz not to lie to them has been reduced to nothing (and he's abandoned them), they just found out their final boss is immortal. Their morale is completely shot. They have no other objective than to get the Lamp to Atlas, which to them in this moment seems so pointless after learning the truth. "Delaying the inevitable," Oscar calls it. It's such a perfect time for these new Grimm, that it wouldn't be unusual to not second guess the fact that they're all Tired (the use of ‘I’m tired’ was their version of ‘I’d prefer not to’) and questioning why they must do all this. But as the scene outside the house goes on, we get more on edge. The music comes back in with these strings, and the characters' pupils are blown and dull, and their voices become more and more lifeless until even Ruby starts to succumb. I also just love Maria’s line about how “No one was angry or sad or scared. No one was anything. Then… no one was left.” Like…That is one of my favorite lines of dialogue throughout this show because of just how simple and terrifying it is. God I just really love this episode and I love these Grimm. Crwby really blew it out of the park with this one. I'm glad you were able to power through. Ep 7: Maria using Gravity Dust in her weapons is so cool. Like, man her fighting style was crazy. What a badass. Our lovely little bounty hunter here was named Tock (based off the Tick Tock Crocodile from Peter Pan) and her semblance was to be basically invulnerable for 60 seconds. It’s like having a heavy-duty reinforced aura (normal aura keeps you from taking damage, but you still feel a lot of the impact and can even be knocked unconscious. With Tock’s semblance everything basically just ricocheted off her). The downside is that once those 60 seconds are up her aura will be completely depleted. High Risk. Usually High Reward…. Until Maria managed to decapitate her with her eyes closed. ….Too soon? Geez I’ve missed JNR. Glad our kids are all back together. Also meeting Saphron and her wife Terra is just precious. They seem like a cute little family. I will always laugh at the Arc Family photo though. Poor Jaune with his little Help sign surrounded by all seven of his chaos sisters.

CaptainChar

oh look, its the redead from zelda...

Quentin.

The Zelda / ReDead influence is of course very apparent but the overall Resident Evil vibe of Eps 5 and 6 is done SO well by CRWBY. They have some real ability as horror creators.

Zirkumflex

You do not trust us because we did not warn you? I am confused. You still trusted us after the Volume 3 finale?

Dre

When was this recorded again? If it was before the 25th then this is a sort of nightmare before Christmas for Mosco.

TheyWereMarried

Can everyone stop mentioning HP for f*ck's sake. HP was my whole childhood, I was a Slytherin and I haven't been able to read a physical book since the last HP book. But as a transman I get extremely uncomfortable when it's even mentioned now. And as Mosco is Scottish, she should know how bad JK Asshole and her ilk have made things here and are continuing to do so. Blake was definitely imagining a future with Yang where they have a kid when Yang was cooing over the kid in this.

Evil Queen

I think she’s mad at us idk what do you guys think? lol

NeurovascularEntrapta

So Qrow needs to meet someone who can nullify semblances, huh? Good thing there's a character inspired by Aizawa from MHA coming up in later seasons

Wootcat

And there we have the reveal of The Grimm Reaper. Her and Sienna Khan are unquestionably my two favorite character designs in the show thus far. Such a shame they also have the lowest screen time!

Arashi

Ah... Apathy, the second of the top three creepy/just-no Grimm. I suppose Weiss could summon them, but I'm not sure how good they would be on the whole. Other Grimm wouldn't really care about the apathy effect, and assuming it didn't affect Weiss, there would be no assurances it wouldn't also affect allied human/faunus as well as any opposing ones. Outside of their cry, as Maria (Grimm Reaper) said, they're not the strongest or most combat capable of Grimm so even if Weiss can summon them, almost anything else would just work better. Still that scene in the wine cellar with Blake just 'this is fine' as she was about to be stabbed by one... nope. Just nope. Argus always struck me more as based around San Fransisco. Trollys, and steep elevation blocky buildings and such. We get our first sight of the full younger Arc generation... and Juane is stuck right in the middle, in many senses it seems. Elijah was offering the tissue box for chapter 9. It's a great chapter but... fuck them.

GlitchedLetters

As someone with a major phobia, I felt your pain with the 6th chapter.

Kitsune Kokoro

I mean, Qrow and Raven are pretty on the nose too. It's not like the show is particularly subtle with names.

Vex Valor

As someone who is nonbinary, I agree we need more nonbinary grimm rep. Less plural, more nonbinary. I have been excited for you to finally get to Saffron and Terra. I love them and it's great to meet someone from Jaune's family.

Eric Smith

I think the warning was about this recording session in general, so likely v6c9

Stephen Portela

Can we just take a moment to appreciate how well young Maria's VA did those screams? Evoking that kind of emotion isn't easy.

EmberPanther

Apologies for the lack of warning, if I had known I would have tried to give a non-spoiler heads up, but this show generally works best without any spoilers. Also, I absolutely love all the little connection moments and character details in these chapters! I find it fascinating that not only was Yang absolutely loving the baby, but Weiss was too, so it seems like a cute little detail is that she is also someone who loves kids. Also, the look that Blake was giving Yang during that scene was so cute, it looked like she was just falling all over again. ❤️ The fact that the Apathy are essentially the Grimm embodiment of depression gets even more scary when you realize who they effected the most: Yang, Weiss, and Qrow, aka the characters in the group who canonically have had to fight depression in the past (Yang having been deeply depressed after Volume 3, Weiss being confirmed to have been so depressed when she got dragged back to Atlas that she didn’t leave her room for months, and Qrow constantly fighting against depression).

Becca ^-^

Soooo remember when you were like “I hate it” to the Nuckelavee 🫣🫣🫣 well I was profusely saying sorry because I knew you’d get here eventually, because in my opinion… these were worse 😬 say hello to the Apathy Mosco…. I’m so so sorry 😰😰😅😅💜💜

Albedo12

I guess if she is literally a reference to Sappho then it tracks.

Todd Lucas

Mosco: Qrow needs someone whose semblance can counter his... Volume 7 has entered the chat...

Ryan

🍁

Todd Lucas

Also....the irony of Mosco not wanting to rewind the book to pause it on the page showing The Apathy....but then pausing it on the ACTUAL Apathy when they appear... lol

Wilma Fingerdoo

Fun fact, the VA was pregnant and those are her labor screams that they used.

man-of-bvz1n3ss

Thirding. And I'd recommend you read a physical book again tho, it's pretty good for you. Considering you apparently like RWBY, there's a similar series called The Locked Tomb that I suggest you check out.

man-of-bvz1n3ss

Maria's scythes are called Life and Death, and they have got to be my favorite weapon in the entire damn show.

BGTitan

I think Sappho also had something to do with making Terra Cotta pots or something? So they're both kind of tied together in the reference.

Leon Lesser

I think the Apathy are definitely the best and most spooky grim they have ever made. Their abilitiy is extremely subtle yet horrifying. Making others loose their motivation and will is so powerful. If they were any more physically powerful there would be no stopping them.

Adam DeVree

“Cool design”, and I see we have learned nothing from Sienna Khan 😆

Gafgarian

I've been running a homebrew version of the Apathy as a critical monster in my current level 20 D&D campaign for the last five years. My players absolutely hate them and legit fear them, even at lvl 19 where they currently are. They are a truly brilliant monster design. Not fast, not strong, simple.

Kadaver

Freezer burn? I always called it yellow snow

SauceyRed

46:45 I... never made the connection that she was referring to Yang's arm... lmao

SauceyRed

And with that, I'm FINALLY caught up! This is the first reaction series I've watched so far, just wanted to focus on one and get through it, but now I'm absolutely gonna start some other ones (Gravity Falls, TOH, She-Ra, and quite literally everything else other than like a couple I'm not interested in).

Amber Cook

Not me sitting here in the first episode screaming "COME ON MOSCO! Put it together!" XD

Cinder's Apologist

yep, I knew the Apathy would do a number on ya! kudos for making it through that episode. and to be fair, this goes to show that CRWBY can do a good job with horror themes! that's the kind of episode you don't watch by itself; you have to do the whole Apathy arc in a v6 binge because it's just so good at being creepy. I was so happy when you caught on to Maria having silver eyes well before it was confirmed. good observation skills! so yes, that will definitely come into play very soon ;) one more note about the Apathy and their effects... while those particular Grimm definitely caused the bleak mood for the team, I will always insist that it wasn't JUST the Apathy; they merely amplified the doubt and despair that had already taken root. remember, these guys just found out all this shit that Ozpin was hiding - that Salem is immortal, that humanity has already been wiped out once, and by proxy this war they got recruited into seems pointless. so team RWBY was already hitting a low point when they arrived at the farm. the Apathy just made those negative thoughts and emotions much stronger to the point of being debilitating. which is why Ruby (and Maria!) being able to resist the effects more than the others is indeed quite telling! okay, so the Faunus woman who cut the eyes? name is Tock... based on the crocodile from Peter Pan. and cool trivia about the clock thing: when they were working on v6, they had limited time for fight scenes so Miles Luna recalled wanting to do a fight sequence that would take exactly 60 seconds... and that's how this one came to be. Jaune is and will forever be known as Vomit Boy. this is law. yay canon sapphics who are married and have a kid! I hope you go and watch how Elijah reacted to that moment because it was so freaking adorable. (and don't worry, this family will be fine.) up next: Saphron and Terra Cotta teach Weiss and Yang the language of sapphic romance through poetry!

The Wolf of Chaos

It’s the Hamish therapy moment. You were lied to by a transphobe, the chocolate doesn’t work nearly as much as a cuddly companion. You’re reactions make me grin like a maniac, so happy to see this one

The Wolf of Chaos

Of course she wasn’t home when Mosco was freaking out on the Apathy (which would’ve been funny) but showed up for the moment that made her grab rainbow flag in excitement

Sam

I feel like i must say, alchol does not explode when lit on fire, even in large amounts, it will burn and spread fire, but it won't explode like gasoline or something

Ky McKenna

Ah yes, the apathy. You have my sympathies mosco

Rixec2

Fun fact, the Apathy was actually designed early into RWBY's development. They were just held off because they would have been too strong for them early on. They almost appeared in volume 4 but were held off again until volume 6. And it worked out perfectly, what with how everyone was handling the revelations and the Apathy's power making it all the easier for them to want to give in.

Shaky Tail Studios

Them? THEM!? i love it, the Apathy are so good, they basically weaponize depression, which I imagine Salem has plenty of experience with herself.

Shaky Tail Studios

The background for Maria VS Tock is really neat, they only had enough funds for a one minute fight so they designed Tock's Semblance to make her indestructible for exactly one minute.

John J Ronald

Argus is sort of San Francisco but with a climate more like Seattle or Vancouver, BC.

John J Ronald

RWBY once again showing itself to be surprisingly good at horror.
