Fun fact: when this show first came out, I was totally uninterested. Girly nonsense, I thought. Then I saw a YouTube video where someone had recut the audio for the trailer of 300 with clips from the show. Most notably Fluttershy shouting down the dragon yelling “THIS! IS! I LOVE Fluttershy!!!! Especially as a kid who was extremely shy, she was my favorite pony growing up! I fell off of MLP during high school but with the way the news is going, I might have to pick it back up. Can’t wait for the episode where you find out Fluttershy has a shed of actual skeletons!

Whoooo! one of three eps from this season that are most often brought up as the ep where someone got hooked on the show, and for good reason! The first of the 'adventure' eps, and a great one at that. Sadly, these are far less common, especially early on. Lauren Faust's original plan was for the show to be a more even mix of these adventure stories and the slice-of-life ones, but budgetary issues made them have to cut down on the number of the far more expensive to produce adventure ones. But, we get to see the deeper aspects to Fluttershy. Sure, she is a massive ball of fear and anxiety, but when it matters and her friends are in danger she can intimidate a freaking dragon with her wrath! You do not mess with the quite ones! Also this ep, great catch on the background ponies, pat attention to those, they might be important later on. Especially the mint green on who was sitting oddly. That, is Lyra, one of the more popular background ponies in the fandom, who entirely due to that image has gotten an entire fanon personality around being obsessed with humans. If you ever want to see some awesome fan stuff for the show, the music video for Anthropology is amaing. Speaking of music, there is an official extended version of the theme song. Though the video with it has a few scenes from episodes later in the season, but it's safe to watch at the end of season 1! And the official term for non pegasi/unicorns is Earth Pony.

A few episodes ago I spoke of dragons in legend being apex beings. This seems to confirm it as super magic girl twilight did not once suggest trying to fight the dragon possibly implying she knew they would never win. The dragon defeated them whilst barely waking up with a roar and belching smoke had that been fire they would all be dead. Fluttershy seems to instinctively understand all beings not just non sapient beasts as she seemed to attack a dragons pride, a trait often in myth, claiming that he should know better and that since he doesn't it is a source of shame. This is a glimpse of the heights of strength spike could reach if hoarding is instinct then I wonder what Spike may collect. Legends are a bit hit and miss with hoards but generally dragons gather things of great value and never part with them, but value can be subjective, if spike is raised to value people and friends then how will he veiw the citizens of ponyville and especially his crush or any future romantic interests. Some food for thought.

Fluttershy is my favourite for many reasons i cant get into yet, i wanna blab so much but were still at beginning of her character, but i will say I love how flawed fluttershy is, she is capable and has skills but her own anxiety and lack of confidence holds her back so much, its very relatable to me

We get a handful of Rarity episodes this season, but in my opinion she's the last of the main characters to come into proper focus (around season 4). She's at her best in her solo episodes but tends to be used as comic relief when she's not in the spotlight, which i think distracts from her better qualities. That said, her VA comes so naturally to comedy that she makes it all work.

The pony you noticed sitting weird near the start was named by the fans. Lyra Heartstrings for her lyre cutie mark. And the creators adopted it. :-) One of the cool things about the creators was, while the writers were forbidden to read fan creations and theories, the creative team as a whole did try to look at what fan creations they were allowed. The artists I think were even encouraged to look at fan art to make sure any new designs did not match fan creations as the show grew in popularity. I think, I'm not certain. Also your pony sona is very cute with little Hamish. ^_^

I've just caught up on all your MLP reactions! This show changed my life, I'm excited to watch it again with you. So many episodes that I am going to struggle to wait for xD This show is very episodic, but it does have a good sense of continuity. A lot of things are introduced within the seasons that become important later in ways you might not expect. With the exception of the season 1 finale, each season premiere and finale (usually a 2 episode special) is what really pushes the story forward in massive ways. Also PLEASE react to "Lullaby for a Princess" by WarpOut on YouTube! The season 1 premiere about Nightmare Moon is all the context you need.

My favourite part of this season was when the two dragons time traveled to before the age of the Titans, when the old gods ruled from their citadels of nightmare and they gain the foreknowledge to orchestrate the events that led to the time travel hundreds of thousands of years later

Oh btw a big Fluttershy fan . I find that most people clock their favorites almost immediately. My bff is a big Applejack fan and she is severely underappreciated. I feel that whatever your favorite is, you're not wrong. Originally, Friendship is Magic was aimed at a young girl fanbase, so it's appropriate to have different main characters represent different types of girls... and all ways girls express themselves from the princess to the tomboy, is valid.
