Toad tax: we see that the frogs are at the bottom of society and the toads enforce it. Also, we see another defining trait of Ann’s character. She can’t stand seeing people being treated poorly. Prison break: say hello to Sasha Waybright Amphibia’s most complex character . You are in for a ride with her. Also Troy Baker voices Captain Grime, he’s a blast. A great mix of menacing and hilarious. Also, whenever you see an episode that has that very quick intro that means it’s very important and they want as much time as possible for the episode

Cunning strategy. -In "Prison Break" Sasha is revealed to also be looking for her friends and a way back home. -Welcome to the cast Anna Akana! Also the voice of Clara from Matt Braly's upcoming project "Clara and the Below"! 😘 -In a recent stream you and Elijah were on together, Elijah mentioned that Sasha was her favorite character in the show. Same. 100%. Not sure how you'll feel about her yet, but I'm excited for the journey. -It's rare I call favorites on a character as fast as I did Sasha. Throughout the episode I thought "Okay. She's a schemer, manipulator, and pot-stirrer. She's gonna be trouble." BUT it was that vow to rescue her friends, the soft way Anna delivered that line, my brain switched it up. "Oh... She's a protector. She's got a good heart. She's gonna be complex." How much of that plays out remains to be seen, but I was already developing my own headcanons. 💅 -It's good to know at least one of Anne's friends made it to Amphibia. But will their potential reunion be disastrous or fruitful? We'd hope the latter for Anne's sake. After all, we all need somebody to lean on.

Finally, we officially meet my favorite character. Oh, Sasha. You manipulative brat. How I missed you. Grime is voiced by Troy Baker who is a very prolific VA. He's in practically everything. I love this episode for Anne. The whole town basically adopts Anne here, and we get to see how much of a moral compass she actually has despite still being a little selfish. She is still 13 after all.

Funny you mentioned The Owl House, since they are sister series, they originally aired in parallel, and their showrunners had previously worked together in Gravity Falls, which was helmed by Alex Hirsch, the voice of King and Hooty.

Season 1 is light on story focused episodes. You'll get them here and there like you did with "prison break". Once you get to season 2 and 3 though it really starts picking up more.

Matt has stated that there are no filler episodes in Amphibia - which is not the state that there aren't episodes that really aren't *that* important to the overall story. Your mission, is to figure out which ones are which.

In real life, I can't really tell frogs and toads apart, but in the cartoon, they are drawn differently. The toads are bigger, bulkier, and often have sharp teeth while the frogs tend to have spindly limbs. I have been excited for you to get to this episode and finally learn more about Sasha. I really love the characterization this show does with the characters. They are more complex than you first expect them to be.

Amphibia is a really well done example of the Chekhov's Armory trope. EVERYTHING and ANYTHING no matter how minor may be relevant to the plot at some point in time, from the most minor of Characters to the most innocent seeming of jokes. As a result, no episode can rightly be called filler. Have fun searching for the needles in the haystacks. :3

27:15 Fun fact: The Wilhelm scream made an appearance in early RWBY, when team RWBY + Doctor Oobleck tried to stop the train, but at some point it sadly got replaced by an original scream (which is the version you watched), and to this day have no idea why.

The character from Watership Down you're thinking of is General WOUNDwort. WartWOOD is the name of the village this show takes place in. 😅 But yeah, Captain Grime's scars and demeanor are pretty similar.

Fun fact the tax collectors were based on Zarbon and Dodoria in terms of design. Also Grimes voice is great and I looove Sasha as a character she's so fun!

In real life, frogs tend to have smooth moist skin, tend to be found near water, and have long hind legs for hopping and swimming, while toads generally have dry bumpy skin that retains moisture better so they don't need to stay as close to water, are more squat and rotund, and have shorter hind legs so they tend to walk or crawl rather than hop. As always, there are exceptions, but 9 times out of 10 that will tell you fairly accurately if the anuran you're looking at is a frog or a toad Another difference in Amphibia is that toads tend to have those throat ridges, but even that's not 100% (Mayor Toadstool and Stumpy have them, but Toady doesn't).

With this episode we're finally properly introduced to the toads of Toad Tower, particularly one Captain Grime. He's one of my favorite characters, he has such a great character arc but on that I can say no more (spoilers, you know). Grime gives us a bit of world information: there are more towns in the valley than just Wartwood, and some of them have already started acting against Toad authority. Just file that tidbit away for later. It's also helpful to note that the map of Amphibia in the opening credits is NOT to scale; think of Amphibia as Europe and the valley is Andorra.
