Dre

Before I forget. Did she react to the volume 7 opening at any point?

LaviPastelQueen

Woo hoo let's gooo definitely one of my top fav vols

Mordred pendragon

fun fact, this entire volume takes place over 48 hours

LaviPastelQueen

Viz hasn't done much with it yet, Crunchyroll pretty much did vol 9 with rooster teeth right before rooster teeth shut down as a test run to see if they wanted to work with them and I think they didn't so viz took rwby in but I'm not 100% sure but I believe that's what happened

EDHPlayer

You severely underestimate Neo’s hatred for Ruby if you think any5ing will lead her to switching sides

Nurydian

Just want to say that after the events of ep1 of v8, there is NO redemption arc for Ironwood. Well... the line WAS cross when he shot Oscar to deplete his aura as he fell off that landing, but he never bother to see what happen to him. But shooting one of his own fellow counsel members... he could just had them arrested. NO IRONWOOD REDEMPTION!

Savitar

It's in this video if i remember correctly

Dre

Oh she watched it halfway through the reaction lol. Honestly I totally understand why she skips them. They risk making the reactions way less fun for her and us.

Miholiday

I completely understand. I lost both my parents within 6 months of each other. They were both unexpected and too young to go. I hit a new level of pain and exhaustion that I never knew existed.

Dre

Mosco getting so protective of Qrow when she briefly thinks Robyn is criticizing him is really funny. 😂

Adrian ruiz martinez

Also an important thing is that the staff of creation comes up as monty's created by credit comes up

Adrian ruiz martinez

Mosco: im very good a picking up media and stuff, im the best at media you guys!!! Also Mosco: WHY IS SHE YELLING AT QROW???!!!

Marceline_mother

Yang in volume 1, to a Grimm: "You could've just said no" Grimm in volume 8: "No"

Celly

Given your vote-post and your personal revelations about your Gran early in this reaction, I have something to reveal too. I can sympathize with your emotional fatigue and find that things like RWBY are a way to transcend that fatigue if only for a little while. I'm not in the target demographic of RWBY being more than two decades older than you. I went through dementia with my grandparents in the first decade of the 2000s, my father's battle with cancer during the 1st and 2nd chapters of RWBY, and my mother's succumbing to Altzheimer's disease during the 9th volume. RWBY and CRWBY were there for me for these and it is a fundamental escape that I've used as a crutch over the years. I'm glad to hear you see it as a crutch too, Mosco, and that it might have helped you too. Viz didn't buy RWBY until about a year after the end of Volume 9. Nora should never be unsupervised ;) Yes, I had the same reaction to you about the pneumatic tubes. OMG I love her. This is a painful volume for me with the Renora separated. As for your vote, Mosco, I know I joined your Patreon long ago because I wanted your full reaction to the chapters. Ever since the loss of Rooster Teeth, the amount of chopping and shredding of reactions (due to copyright infringement) has escalated to the point that youtube reactions have been almost unwatchable. Rooster Teeth was much more permissive of their copyright than Viz it seems. I have supported 22 different reactors in recent years and those are just the RWBY ones. Please don't stop with RWBY. Looking at the calendar, you wouldn't finish RWBY Volume 8 until nearly June especially if you have Momo Con and all. Given the events of this eventful Volume that takes place in a mere 48 hour period, you will be torturing yourself and your fans about your impending reactions to one of the most beautiful Volumes of RWBY(I'd die on the hill to say Volume 9 is only next to Volume 4 in pure beauty). RWBY heals. RWBY affirms truth. RWBY helps us investigate ourselves. Don't deny yourself this Mosco. And this is from a die-hard Critter that will always be champing at the bit for your Vox and Mighty Nein reactions too! I even watch their full campaign episodes every week. I'm willing to wait for Vox given the precarious place you will find yourself in late May with RWBY.

Ian Moscrop

Fiona's semblance is so op. Literal pocket dimension she stole a whole ass truck.

Hi-Viz

Yeah maybe try watching 5 more seconds before raging at a character next time XD

Adrian ruiz martinez

The scarecrow didnt have a brain, and is been read for qrow is usual a blind follower of ozpin, his alcoholism make him lose his mind, his depressions, all of the above

Adrian ruiz martinez

The fuck did the reporter did that him dead?? What is this isreal?

Curtis Murphy

The Opening wasn't shown until AFTER the first episode. So you would not have been spoiled about Penny. Their looks yes you would've been. Honestly I get why you skip them. I'm thinking I just don't process supposed spoilers like other people do. When I see something in an opening I don't think "oh I've been spoiled on something that happens." I think " oh cool wonder how that happens or how we get to that" To each their own. Yeah a lot of people think Robyn is talking to Qrow originally in that scene. And good job noticing the Grimm watching them on the bridge. Not everyone catches that on their first watch

TheCasualNerd

Will say of all the volume openings v8 is the one to not watch till the end the most. Definitely keep skipping it

Emix1021

are you saying it's bad that mosco was told not to watch the intros? because if that's what you're saying then that's a bit uncalled for; because mosco is very perceptive so would you have preferred that she did watch the intros and get spoilt for all the things that she could've been spoilt for? i completely understand why she didn't want to watch the intros because getting spoilt isn't fun at all. i understand that it's frustrating not seeing the intros be reacted to but i'm sure it wasn't her intention to forget to watch them.

Ryan

"...there’s two kinds of tired. There’s good tired and there’s bad tired. Ironically enough, bad tired can be a day that you won. But you won other people’s battles; you lived other people’s days, other people’s agendas, other people’s dreams. And when it’s all over, there was very little you in there. And when you hit the hay at night, somehow you toss and turn; you don’t settle easy. It’s that good tired, ironically enough, can be a day that you lost, but you don’t even have to tell yourself because you knew you fought your battles, you chased your dreams, you lived your days and when you hit the hay at night, you settle easy, you sleep the sleep of the just and you say ‘take me away’” ---- Chapter 1: Remember, you can't have a redemption arc until you've hit rock bottom... Ruby finally gets to go ... (undercover!) Between Ironwood, Team YORJ (Orange), and Team RPNBW (Rainbow), we get three strategies: run, hold, fight. Each strategy has its pros and cons, short term and long term tradeoffs. Taking Atlas to space has the highest chance of saving Atlas, but leaves the rest of Remnant to fend for itself. Evacuating Mantel to the crater is digging in for a fight, but what's the next move? Grimm are still pouring in from the breach, and Atlas is under siege. You're fighting on two fronts. Ruby's plan to launch Amity Tower and send a message to the work may pay dividends in the future, but in the near term it has no advantage. The most reinforcements they could get right away are from Raven and anyone in Tai's vicinity, assuming Raven would answer the call. Reinforcements from Argus would take hours, maybe days, to arrive, and would leave Argus undefended. Haven and Beacon are both out of the fight, and Vacuo and Menagerie are on the other end of the world - even if airships can make that trip, it would take time to muster forces, by which time it may be too late. But as Ren's father once said - "sometimes the worst action is taking no action at all." You don't always know how it's going to end. You can't. All you can do is act. James is thinking selfishly. Yang and the boys are thinking short term. Ruby and the girls are thinking long term. And Salem, death herself, is patient. Oscar is right, though - you can work together, fighting different battles, and still fight the same war. Chapter 2: This is why you always put "Hi, I'm an idiot!" in your intro, isn't it? For moments like these, when the writers pull one over you and you think Robin is berating Qrow. Say, aren't robins a harbinger of spring? I wonder how it will go when she meets Raven... Damnit, Mosco! You are too observant! You weren't supposed to spot the Hound!

Tammy Ragsdale

This volume certainly hits the ground running. They do a very good job of establishing the split in a very short period of time. While they certainly would have considered their skill sets in choosing who to side with, it does sort of break them in ideological lines. For instance, Yang is more of a "take action and do what I can now" type while Blake is more of a big picture person. She's stated several times that she wants to help everyone. The only real outliers are Ren and Nora, who normally you would think would split the other way. Nora was always all gung-ho in helping Mantle, but she seems to see getting the tower working as the greater good for all, similar to Blake. Ren, well he has his own stuff going on, but mostly, I think he's just looking for a win right now. The hound is amazing. He's very unique and really scary. This whole volume is so well written.

Raiza Morata

Vol. 8 is one of my favorites... honestly, it might even be my number one. I freaking love this volume, let’s go!!!

Jonathan Morgan

I really don't think waiting the entire Volume is necessary. Chapter 5 at most

Geass

Elijah was also considering the possibility of Neo switching sides this episode.

Christopher Malone

vol 1-9 is all Rooster Teeth/WB, after WB closed RT VIZ bought the rights and are now gearing up for Vol 10 as of 2024. The series was left dormant for about a year and is still only just spinning back up with the new owners And yes, Ironwood did what he did and thus we see the downfall of a good man and its Ace Ops not Survey Corps... but I can see how you can confuse them also seeing Mosco going off on Robin, knowing that she was yelling at Weis' father and not Qrow, it was like you are trying to stop that friend from "Halping" cause you have context they don't

Rod

Welcome to volume 9. Sorry to hear that life is piling on. Watch something uplifting (sure, RWBY, sure). Have a tea and a biscuit, get outside for 15 minutes, have a nap. We want you calm (?) and happy. Neo only knows that Roman is gone, how is known by Ruby only. But she’s working with Cinder, and she would only tell her the truth. Salem does like playing with Grimm. Mercury having a winged shoe as an emblem is a little on the nose.

Phoenix_mercury

Tbf to neo, Roman wouldn't have been in that situation if Cinder hadn't recruited him... And yes I love Merc's emblem being talaria 😁

Phoenix_mercury

The only way I don't get how one can be confused at the AO is *because* of their name, ace ops... Aesop's... Aesop's fables

Phoenix_mercury

Mosco has literally said in previous videos she doesn't want *any* spoilers, that was after watching an op she was told to wait on and was *glad* she waited because their was spoilers she didn't want, theirs no "disservice" when it's what the person wants as well as literally in **this** video saying how she doesn't want to watch because of the spoilers that she doesn't want🤦

Tyler Dunn

Fun fact, The Hound appears hidden in 3-4 different shots throughout the episode before he pounces on Oscar. You have to scan the background a bit but he's there watching them the entire time.

Artfulstar

Jacques' "I'm a victim!" its actually a reference to Weiss in volume 1, she says that exact line when Blake confronts her about speaking ill of Faunus, showing that Weiss' upbringing up to the start of the story really was affected by Jacques' mentality Plus, the misdirection of the camera at the start that shows Qrow while Robyn is chastising Jacques was done to give a glimpse into Qrow's headspace and show what he was thinking about himself at that moment.

Erinyes

Hard disagree. FFS people, we were meant to see these intros and the V8 intro in particular sets the tone for the whole volume. Y'all are so concerned about the possibility that something might be hinted at (it's called foreshadowing, if you were wondering) that everyone is willing to just not watch parts of the actual show.

Jyoster

Oof, two poorly timed moments for Mosco. But she didn't know the context of either of them. Also, no executions. That's just going to cause more problems that it'll solve, Salem herself employed that plan when she and Ozma did that religions with them as gods, and that didn't do anything good. Hehe, yeah. Poor Weiss, it was funny to watch though. And introducing the Hound, Salem's newest nightmare Grimm. And made quite the big impression on all of us. And yeah, it was within the bridge earlier, but it had a few other appearances prior to the confrontation. It was stalking them, and most folks don't notice that on their first watch. And oh boy, the Oscar Protection Squad had it rough this season.

BGTitan

Honestly I think the OP is fine to watch after episode 6 for both this volume and 9. After that everything's already been shown. And this volume OP was actually pretty decent about not giving anything away. Ep 1: I think you and Elijah give Neo far too much credit. She was ready and willing to kill Yang way back in V2. She's not a good person, regardless of her tragic backstory. I love that Ruby and Yang are both right. Hence why Jaune suggests going for both. I also just love that we’re getting some interesting team ups. Nora away from Ren, and Yang hanging out with non-RWBY members. Blake has always been more big picture. Yang is more of a 'do what you can in the moment' type. More local good. Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man type stuff. The mournful sounding version of Hero playing in the background! UGH! And if shooting Oscar didn’t do it, shooting an unarmed councilman with no aura should’ve made everyone incredibly aware that Ironwood has truly lost it. And now not only is it this sense of duty/obligation/trust that is keeping the Ace Ops and Winter in line, it’s the fear that they could be next if they step out of line. Because if he’s willing to shoot an unarmed civilian… he’s capable of shooting anyone. Robyn and Qrow are…. Jailbirds. Hehe. I just think that’s hilarious. Ep 2: I’m sure it was completely coincidental that the two people shown when May mentions the other half of their team are Blake and Nora. My poor babies miss their partners. Penny and Ruby’s conversation is such a callback to the one in V2 after Ruby finds out she’s a robot. They’re so cute! Weiss going up the tube was such a meme when this aired. And it’s still freakin funny. The timing, the way Nora is so excited after she sends her up. It’s so beautiful. “…No…” And just like that this Grimm (named The Hound according to the credits) became a terrifying entity. And that’s not even getting into the fact that it can apparently manipulate its “bones” and limbs to be whatever. What a way to make the Grimm (outside of the Apathy) scary again. Also, it’s voiced by the same VA that does Qrow. Also also, if you go back to some earlier shots, you’ll catch the Hound actually stalking them. Like, okay sure.

Isadora

The scene was deliberately framed to be misconstrued, almost all reactors fall for it, and then immediately get it once Jacques is shown. There's no need to be so negative about an understandable first impression.

TheRavenWanderer

Volume 8's one of my favorites because it's got a banger of an opening set of episodes and even better right at the end of it. Also, the Weiss tube incident's always priceless. "Eliminate the discriminators." - General Moscowood

Todd Lucas

Mosco: Dis she put brains into these things... Oh......it is so much WORSE than that...

Rixec2

Just wait until you learn the reason the other Grimm are scared of the Hound is because the Hound uses his speaking ability to do standup comedy. And he's really bad at it.

Jason S

Another fun fact: Before volume 8 came out Rooster Teeth released a preview of the volume with those same shots, but with the Hound removed.

JAMES D'ALESSANDRO

Let's see, I did originally watch this show for a break till the last third of volume 3. I then continued it because I guess I am a bit of a masochist. Now I watch reactions because I am a bit more of a sadistic. The rest of us are 2 but may just not realize it. I watch rom-com and slice of life animes for a break. RWBY Chibi too.

Phoenix_mercury

Ngl I read Weiss tube as ice cube at first...

Mirly

I was also watching Morgan's reaction to it and when Ironwood tells Qrow "If you were one of my man I'd have you shot" I had to pause because I never noticed it until then 😬

JAMES D'ALESSANDRO

Blake went with Ruby because as she said from the beginning that she believes that what Ruby is doing is the thing that needs to happen

JAMES D'ALESSANDRO

What Ironwood did by murdering the councilman was not that shocking. He did the same exact thing to Oscar at the end of the last episode. Ironwood needs to die, and I hope that it's Qrow that foes it. If not him maybe Winter if she ever wakes the fuck up.

CrowOfAFeather

6:29 Thing is, even if Neo would somehow go for the good side, none of the characters have any reason to trust or accept her. It's about earning that redemption. "We love you!" Eeeehhh.... Yang, amongst a bunch of other people, would disagree. Ruby isn't exactly happy about someone who almost took her sister's life either. 14:53 I mean, I doubt Weiss would want to date a murderous sociopath. AU-wise, sure, but canonically it doesn't make sense. Anywho, enough of my gripes and on to happier things! V8 has such a great start and the wait between each episode each week back then had us all in suspense! Blake definitely aligned more with Ruby here, even though we know that she obviously would want to go with Yang. But as of right now she and Ruby are on the same wavelength. 1:00:40 Yep, we saw Fiona's Semblance already. She absorbed entire trucks, May was doing the invisibility. Blake has both cat and human ears because like most animals, the ears are more on "top of" the head, while lamb ears are not. Lamb ears on top of the head would look so weird too lol 1:05:21 A lot of people tend to forget this fact! Yes, everyone has been working basically nonstop with barely any time to properly rest and recharge.

Eric Smith

More or less, though Crunchyroll was just the distribution platform for v9. RWBY was owned by Warner Bros. at the time (hence the Justice League crossovers)

Moonas

That was a Gimm that was send personally by Salem to get Oscar.

Dafydd Mac an Leigh

Yeah, I'm more the "OK, watch the opening now and see what the creators wanted to show me" type, but I completely understand a reactor not going for that. It's also worth noting that Vol. 7 was the first time ever that Rooster Teeth did NOT preview the new OP at RTX that summer, on account of the big spoiler it contained.

Zirkumflex

Salem made a giant whale-i-carrier.

Kitsune Kokoro

The avoidance of intros is Mosco's preference, not something that anyone else has told her to do. And I've never seen her criticize anyone else for watching them, it's just a her thing. I respect her choice on that.

Kitsune Kokoro

Especially after pontificating about how good she is at picking up on stuff when watching the intros XD

Arashi

Oh, they're not sleep deprived just yet. They will though, this volume is going to be covering a LLLOOOONNNGGGG 30-odd hours (definitely less then 48) of their lives. "What's he gunna do? Is he gunna arrest them?" Ah.... sort of? Welcome to the obvious effects of Mettle. Nothing and No One is allowed to get in the way of James' plan. Not the Grimm, not Salem, not Civilians... and certainly not Morals. For opening induced spoilers... again, you should be effectively safe after chapter 5 'Amity'. Though pre-warning, Volume 9 is the only volume that changes the intro mid-volume. "Why are you blaming Qrow?!" Man, really demonstrating that this is your first viewing. First the Ace-Ops and then Robyn. :p Though fair, the scene was structured to give that impression but... :p Qrow started with the basis of the Scarecrow from the Wizard of Oz, though he's added more Mugin from Norse mythology. Vacuo's headmaster is 'now' the Scarecrow. Good job naming the Hound. This lovely little boy is the last of the named Grimm, and the most horrifying. It's not an alpha, they can't talk. The Hound is... different then them. You'll find out why in chapter 8.

Arashi

What do you expect? Everyone always told Tai to screen his dad joke/pun college applicants more.

Kitsune Kokoro

I think it's worth noting that the reasons you've given for wanting to see Jacques and Watts killed instead of captured are *exactly* the reasons Ironwood had in mind when he shot Oscar and the councilman. "They're only going to cause more problems. We need to put a permanent stop to them so that doesn't happen." (Also, both Jacques and Watts had already been captured before Ironwood started shooting, so that's not a contradiction for him, it's a shift to him being willing to unilaterally execute people.) Also also, we've seen multiple times that RWBY is not a show that narratively rewards choosing the brutally pragmatic option over the hopeful one. Look at Ozpin, for instance- he had pragmatic and somewhat understandable reasons for keeping his secrets, but in v6 when those came out everyone was (rightly) pissed at him for lying to them. The narrative does not portray him for being in the right for doing that; in another story, that could well be different. Same for Ironwood's decision to save Atlas at the cost of Mantle- in a different show, choosing to save some and let others die instead of running the risk of letting *everyone* die might well be the least bad option available. But RWBY is hopepunk. The narrative portrays hope, trust, and teamwork as being the correct choice, even when cold logic would point to a different choice. And that's one of the things I love most about it; I love that it's a show where despite everything it feels *worth it* to believe that things can become better.

Taigan

The official name for the übergrimm seems to be The Hound, even though I’ve always called it the Big Bad Wolf

Luminaxtea

I think regarding the openings it really depends on what you consider spoilers to be vs what you consider as foreshadowing because CRWBY did intend for the viewer to watch the OPs after chapter 1. Like I personslly don't consider any of the foreshadowing in the RWBY OPs as spoilers, especially since none of the animations are clips in the actual show (v5 and v6 do use clips but it's sparse and careful to avoid being outright spoilery). However, I'm used to shows that just mash together a bunch of clips from way later on in the show and are full of blatant spoilers so... your mileage may vary, I guess.

Geass

I can't help but wonder what Masco would guess from watching the volume 9 opening.

JAMES D'ALESSANDRO

I caught that Maria had silver eyes from the intro as well. RWBY intros since volume 3 spoils the shit out of the show. You actually should always wait till the end unless someone you trust let's you know when you can see it

JAMES D'ALESSANDRO

Penny would not have been a spoiler in volume 7 since they first show it after the first episode

Mare

Lol I second this!!

JAMES D'ALESSANDRO

Not sure why this Grimm can talk, but i think that if it was because it's an alpha that it would be well known that alphas could talk.

Mare

As a Bumbleby shipper (a pretty big one), I gotta stick up for Blake and say, that she is her OWN person and not defined by anyone else. Her character is not defined by who she's partnered with or has affection for. She is a woman of strong and moral convictions and the choices she makes reflect that, which is why she chose to go with Ruby's team. Yang is more about the "here and now" and Yang's language of love is "Acts of Service." Neither one is wrong about their choices as both choices are noble and about putting other people's needs first before their own. So no one had to force Blake's hand in her choice and it wasn't about using her stealth abilities either.

Mare

Also Faunus are essentially human with additional appendages/animal parts. The situation with Blake can simply be explained by Kerry Shawcross. Miles and Kerry believed characters looked "weird" or "creepy" without human ears. Also remember that even Velvet has human ears so Blake is NOT the exception. If anything, it gives Blake and Velvet an advantage with hearing things that the average human can't. They also needed an excuse to have Blake go incognito with the Bow in the Beacon Arc. Can you imagine the wind blowing and people noticing she didn't have ears where a normal human would normally have them? People would immediately know something was up. (Transcript) Miles: "It's funny...Uhm...I feel like I was the only one in the world that didn't think that was weird." Kerry: "No, there's two of us." Miles: "I was like...Uh... I mean, the fact that she has cat ears already is also weird. [...] The boring answer was because back in volume 1 we were like: well, because then it would be really obvious that Blake is a faunus, if she didn't have human ears." Kerry: "People look weird without ears!"

Alec-Zelda Alderson

Possible Spoiler? To add to weiss' 'we're never going sleep again comment' , volume 8 takes place over 2 days

Luna

The wheels on the Grimm go round and round

SauceyRed

Ah volume 8, my favorite, my beloved, we're here!

Vex Valor

The Scarecrow has no brain and they implemented that idea by making Qrow an alcoholic which I think is a genius idea. Much more creative and interesting then just writing him as stupid. I have been excited to see you react to a Grimm speaking and it did not disappoint.

dilemmafordays

Fair enough on wanting to wait for the intros, I think for the majority of the fandom part of the interest is analysing and theorising about the volume from the intros as we get a new episode week to week. It's fun to talk about and I honestly can't wait to get that again for Volume 10, but I can appreciate wanting to go in blind and I will definitely respect your commitment if you decide to hold off on the intro when we get new episodes. (Also worth noting the intros are dropped at the end of the first episode, so Penny wouldn't have been a spoiler)

RaisedEyebrow

Wasn't entirely clear if you caught it, but this was the Grimm that Salem had sniffing the Lamp, in order to retrieve Oscar. I'll say no more on it, obviously.

Vex Valor

I love the framing of how episode 2 starts with Robyn on a rant about how everything is "his" fault and though when it pans out, we see it's toward Jacques rather than at Qrow, but because the frame focused so long on him, we can see that he is blaming himself for what happened with Clover even though it's not true.

That1blindkid

Viz media took over back in 2025 after Rooster Teeth closed down

SauceyRed

50:08 I've NEVER noticed the Hound there, and neither has any reactor I've watched before now. I knew it was hidden in some scenes leading up to it showing up, but I was never curious enough to actually check where it appears.

David Johnson

I can't be the only one who thinks the Brothers are the *real* villains of RWBY? I mean, literally everything happening is their fault.

Artemis Delphinia

Blake and Weiss probably went with Ruby because they also agree that warning Mantle is the best plan, but also they know that Yang and the others are handling the evacuation. Yang tell Ruby though that following Ruby hadn't really worked out well was crazy of her. The problems that happened were completely out of Ruby's control and mostly Ironwood and Jaques fault for giving the openings for Salem and company to ruin things. Also the only spoiler openings are Volume 7 with the outfits. You see Penny in the first episode so it doesn't spoil her and the Survey Corps would have just been new faces, not really a spoiler. Volume 8 doesn't have any spoilers and Volume 9 doesn't either unless you count new faces that you don't know as spoilers.

Butterfly Warrior

It’s so cool that if you are quick enough you see The Hound stalking them on like 2-3 separate occasions before attacking. I don’t remember the exact time stamps, but I remember where you can see it. You can see it on top of a building, on the bridge where Mosco spotted it, and running across another bridge when the dragon Grimm goes under it chasing the team.

Butterfly Warrior

To me The Hound saying “No” gives me at least the same level of chills to when Caesar shouted “No” in Planet of the Apes. I say at least cause with The Hound it’s more like “I’m fucking terrified right now”.

Shaky Tail Studios

Fun fact, there's an image of Cinder in Vi's prison cell in Arcane.

Shaky Tail Studios

I think also cause he let Ozpin do all his thinking for him and trusted blindly.

Shaky Tail Studios

I adore Monstra, peak Grimm a living aircraft carrier/mobile fortress that flies!

Shaky Tail Studios

Plus Neo herself never shows any guilt about what she does, she just dislikes being disregarded. She was gleeful about murdering Yang in V2 and found tearing Vale apart with Grimm fun. She's just mad she & Roman suffered consequences for their actions and wants someone other than herself to blame that she can actually hurt cause she's to much of a coward to swing at Cinder.

Shaky Tail Studios

Yuup, Ironwood's been weighing other people's lives against what he deems most important (Atlas) the entire time and other people always came up short, Vale, Mistral, Argus, Matle, Oscar, everyone.

Shaky Tail Studios

Mhm, Ren sort of adopted his fathers ideal of "It is better take action than not" and ran with it as meaning "Taking any actions is the best option no matter what" hence his aligning with Ironwood for a bit there. He doesn't think calling for aid will lead to fast enough results if any so he doesn't see the point.

Shaky Tail Studios

Worth noting Atlas can't survive without Dust from Mantle and Ironwood has no proof Salem can't just follow him and when he came up with that idea Cinder was still running around Atlas too.

Shaky Tail Studios

So regarding the evacuation Ironwood called it off last volume right after his fight with Watts barely anyone actually got evacuated before he called it quits and re-adopted his "Fuck the poor" mentality. Also eeeeh, I love seeing Penny's overwhelming Atlas complex and self sacrificing mentality XD I also feel people are a lil harsh on Yang for this bit, especially as she clearly intended to try and soften what she said to Ruby before Ren interrupted but she was consistently uncomfortable with hiding the truth from Ironwood & co from minute one so its not a surprise she feels bothered. Blake going with Ruby makes sense given she she thinks so highly of Ruby and tends to be a very big picture person, and she's more confident in her relationship with Yang now that she's willing to try disagreeing with her after Yang and she's talk that led to then helping Robyn. That "loooosers!" bit XD Ironwood's "If you were one of my men I'd have you shot" line is much less funny but far more telling on re-watch no? ;) I would say its because he said Ironwood was afraid, he's always responded VERY poorly to implications of cowardice despite how easily Salem has him shaking in his booties. I think you could watch the intro by mid volume and be fine, doing so afterwards feels like it saps some of the magic but that's just me and I do understand the desire to not be spoiled. Poor Robyn she didn't deserve that tongue lashing XD That prison group is half amazing bong rotation and half nightmare bong rotation. It is so sad that Penny considered Ironwood a friend meanwhile he always treated her like a pet at best and a disposable military tool at worst. Also regarding Watts, CRWBY's general theme is that militant fascism and police violence is bad even when it happens to people you hate. By the time they were robbing supplies they knew the supplies were for Amity and continued doing so afterwards because Ironwood was still leaving a gaping hole in their defenses that was getting people killed. "What do you mean no!?" Big mood XD

Andrew Hart

That’s the thing, when watching week to week and waiting for a new chapter you take whatever RWBY content you can get and theorising from the intro is part of the fun. I can see why it’s not as important when you can just see the next episode though as you can get straight to the answers. A lot of the time people do guess correctly based on the intro (like from the shot of Maria to Ruby in the volume 6 intro) but people do get it completely wrong too (like in the volume 4 intro where a lot of people thought Blake was going to fight adam that volume or that Tai’s semblance was turning himself into Yang in the volume 4 intro also 😂

Flufux

I bet what Neo's thinking during that opening scene is "Wait, did I just accidentally join a cult?"

Andrew Hart

Agreed, volume 9’s intro is the least spoilery as everything in it is an unknown, sure you could guess the main direction/goal of that volume but other than that, little to no chance of guessing details

CrowOfAFeather

EXACTLY! No remorse or regret whatsoever. And somehow people think she's redeemable simply because they think she's hot and wants her to have more screentime.

Dayash

its so funny to me how much faith you and Elijah put on Neo's sense of morality... lol

Migli

you also see the ace ops at the end of the first episode arresting the crew

Stephen Mumford

I just noticed on this rewatch that after Ren demands Oscar back, The Hound takes a moment to create a set of vocal cords in its throat so it can respond verbally.

I get kind of annoyed when people can’t find any sort of explanation for why Blake doesn’t go with Yang, as if she’s just SUPPOSED to follow her around because they’re a potential couple. Ruby’s plan is to warn the world about Salem, to hopefully find help, and to unite everyone in the fight. Yang doesn’t believe this plan is possible, and chooses to work on the immediate problem that’s in front of them instead of wasting time. Think back to volume 2 in Mountain Glenn when we learned all of their motivations for becoming Huntresses. Yang has always been a thrill seeker, someone who lives in the now and doesn’t think about tomorrow. Blake is someone who thinks about the future of the Faunus, and the future of the world. She fights for justice and revolution and HOPE. If you really think about it, she was always going to follow Ruby’s plan here. The 2 teams are divided by who is capable of focusing on the bigger picture right now, and who can only perform their basic job functions. I love bees but come on, they are still separate people with distinct mindsets.

Albedo12

Looking forward to Mosco's reaction to the upcoming scene where Yang goes to kiss Blake and accidentally knocks off her fake human ears, embarrassing them both.

Cinder's Apologist

it is so hilarious how much these two adore Neo and have such hopes for her. adorable and love to see more Neo fans, but yeah XD

Cinder's Apologist

well said. Yang is very much "in the moment" and Blake is "bigger picture"

Cinder's Apologist

another Neo simp... gotta love it XD splitting the team is hardly a bad thing; I can promise you that Salem did not put all her evil eggs in one basket at each phase of her plans. she was likely laying the groundwork for Haven at the same time as the run-up to the Fall of Beacon. and now, Team Hero needs to learn how to do the same - deal with immediate problems while still working toward long-term goals. I literally sat here and clapped "KEEP WATCHING" as Mosco started going off on Robyn before realizing who she was speaking to. I get it but come on, you gotta let the scene play out XD Yang getting hyped over a bike will never get old. she deserves a new Bumblebee by show's end! Fiona's Semblance is basically video game style inventory pouch. or Infinity Pouch. whatever you call it, the pouch that holds a cartoonishly large amount of stuff. that's how she was able to fit an entire truck into a pocket dimension. and yes, some Faunus do only have one set of ears. doesn't seem to be any hard rule as to why or who gets them, but it has led to a few good jokes regarding Blake having two sets of ears... definitely plenty of tension going around right now. everybody close to running on empty and facing the Mission Impossible. lots of stuff to work through! yeah so um... Oscar got whacked quickly cuz he already had his Aura depleted not very long ago and barely had time to rest. and that Hound... yes, it is the Hound and there are definitely more surprises to come. but no, Grimm do not speak. none of the other alpha types or Big Bads can speak. only this one, the Hound.

Cinder's Apologist

yup. when you step back and look at the story in its entirety, it is very obvious that the Brothers are the end game villains. it's why I have certain theories I cannot share here just yet but would likely fly in the face of "popular fandom takes" lol

Cinder's Apologist

lotta good points here. Fuck Ironwood(TM) and those abandoning the poor. also regarding Ironwood and that v3 callback... going back a tad further to v2, it really adds more to Glynda's assertion that his bravado is just a "dick-measuring contest" really tracks more once you get to this point. always dick-tator coded, always one bad day away from fear-induced breakdown. and YES to Robyn, both the prison bit and what they were doing in v7 with the supply raids. (literally how America runs - always infinite money for wars but never enough to help the people at home who actually need it)

Suplee215

While true, volume 7 did focus on the fact that theyre always together a lot. I dont think its the biggest deal but I do think Blake voicing the reason why is a missed writing moment.

Suplee215

I can totally see that happening but I dont think its going to. They certainly get a lot of blame for creating the mess. But I dont know if they will need to be defeated for the story. I can see them being reasoned with instead and showing them a different way or even not showing up when called and the characters need to handle it themselves.

CrowOfAFeather

It's like they ignore/forget everything Neo has done since the book and think that, just because Neo had bad parents, she's excused of everything...lol

CrowOfAFeather

Thank you, well said! Especially about Neo, I don't understand why people give her that much undeserved credit. Like, they think she's so hot they have to comment on it even when she's doing bad things. Always loved the callback to V2 with Penny and Ruby, it's so adorable and I felt that short conversation was much needed with the way things are at this point in the show.

Jittercritter

Yeah that frustrated me a little bit. Blake will always go for the option that saves as many people as possible, as indiscriminately as possible. ALWAYS.

Jittercritter

Blake going with Ruby makes wayyy more sense. Blake was a freedom fighter before she went to Beacon, she will always take the path that saves or at least helps as many people as possible. It would have been massively out of character for her to go with Yang’s plan.

Mare

Yeah I remember Miles and Kerry (I believe at a RWBY panel) mentioning that the brothers were based on both Greek gods as well as the Brothers Grimm (Wilhelm Grimm and Jacob Grimm. Them resembling Greek gods makes sense since those mythological gods made a lot of stupid choices as well as acted schemey, petty and vindictive

Mare

Technically Headmaster Theodore is Dorothy. Even has the ruby-decorated gloves too (Dorothy has ruby slippers). And his silver boots are a reference to Dorothy’s silver shoes from the original novel

Mare

RWBY wasn’t exactly left dormant for a year. As Rooster had officially announced their shutdown the same year that RWBY was acquired. Shutdown announcement was March 6, 2024. Announcement of Viz Media Aqcuisition announcement was July 5, 2024 at Anime Expo. During that time and 2025, Viz was going through transition of assets and licensing which does take awhile. Then we finally got the chance to stream the series again during Viz’ announcement on the July 5th anniversary of the acquisition as well as the anniversary of RWBY’s RTX premiere.

Christopher Malone

I was less going by when RT shutdown and when Vol 9 ended, we have no idea how far along in the planning stages vol 10 was in before the shutdown and they also had a lot of infrastructure in place that now has to be rebuilt with Viz not to mention how much lead the team had before they were told that Vol was not gonna happen with RT/WB. Vol 8 wrapped in Feb of 2021 and Vol started 2 years later in 2023, we have no idea how much planning was done between then and RT shutdow so a fair estimate can be made that the series was down with nothing being done creatively for about a year might be a touch high... it's not outside the realm of possibility, depending on what was going prior to the shutdown

Jittercritter

I agree it was out of pocket but tbf it wasn’t horribly out of character either, Yang has never been good with words. The only time she delivers a good speech is to Blake in s2 and even then she has to face completely away from her and she ends up resorting to shoving her (then hugging her) in order to finally get her point across. She just isn’t a word-driven person, Ruby, Blake, and Weiss have always had far more success at expressing themselves verbally than she has. I don’t think she MEANT to blame Ruby, she was just trying to say that they needed a different strategy. But it certainly came out way wrong.

Mare

Yeah you could tell that Yang was about to elaborate but Ren interrupted her. I remember being annoyed with Ren at that moment at first watch LOL.

Colin Bradley

Rens angst is quite interesting to me...it makes me think he's not just "masking" others emotions, but bottling them all up...like where does that emotional energy go during the mask...if he is bottling up everyone's emotions (which are ALWAYS negative) his angst makes a bit more sense to me...or maybe it is just an internal struggle about how much they have failed, and how his feelings for Nora made him loose against Neo (he would have lost anyway though lol). Love the reactions ♥️ Keep being awesome

Jittercritter

The Robyn bait is so funny because when volume 7 was airing she was kind of a divisive character, with a lot of people thinking she was annoying or cringe and a lot of other people really loving her. So I think they definitely did that fakeout just to mess with people

OrangeCoconutt / Drew

Alright, I'll finally chime in on the Intro debate. So, despite RWBY being American-made, it is heavily Anime inspired as I'm sure you know, and because of that, RWBY treats their intros like anime series do. They put the intro to the Volume at the end of the first episode, and the beginning of all the rest, just like anime. In Anime, I find it's usually a way for weekly viewers to get hyped up and excited for the show, just as you would a cartoon opening or literally any other show with a jingle or theme before the episode starts. For the fact that the intro/anime opening reveals what is it in store for the Volume/Season, that is very common for anime openings to do so, with, of course, trying to stay as vague and ambiguous as possible. RWBY does reveal a lot with it's intros and I totally respect if you prefer to wait until the last episode or later to watch the intro for the volume. I find it does tend to reveal things very early on, but some people love that kind of stuff when watching a weekly series. I remember back in Volume 6 as the show was releasing weekly, people immediately caught on and theorized that Maria was going to teach Ruby about silver eyes. People also wondered about Ironwood fighting Oscar in Volume 7's opening, only to find it was for training rather than an actual conflict. There are a lot of foreshadowed nuggets that occur in the intros that later on make more sense as you continue through the volume. I find it's kind of a fun challenge for the creators/animators to give to the audience. I feel like the intro is definitely something you can pass on if you're binging the series like you are, but I just hope you understand the intros hold a special place in people's hearts and are crafted with a lot of love and care, just like the show itself. The revealing nature of them is just par for the course of Anime and if that's something you don't vibe with, that's fair. I hope people aren't annoyingly on your case for your decision on them, I just hope they aren't disregarded because of it! ANYWAYS. Love the reactions and keep up the great work! <3 Also, your shock to Ironwood shooting the council member was incredible and I couldn't help but laugh. I think that moment shocks a lot of people.

Jittercritter

I agree, especially with Raven’s criticism of Yang in s4 and 5. It seem like Raven had a lot of frustration with Tai and Qrow (and potentially Summer?) not listening to her warnings about Ozpin and she projected that onto Yang when Yang didn’t listen either, even though Yang had a lot more reason not to trust her. It makes sense why Yang and Qrow had the most aggressive responses to Ozpin’s reveal in s6, what with Raven’s siding with Salem still being fresh in their minds, they HAD to be thinking about her warnings, surely? It really makes you wonder how things could have gone differently.

Jittercritter

Her reactions to the episode endings are always so good lol!!

Wee Lass Reacts

I totally get your point, I think I'm just frustrated because the show keeps glossing over Blake as a solo person. Even in her own personal trailers when they're meant to be ABOUT HER they're usually always focused on / shine a spotlight on other people instead. And here was a great moment to have Blake and Yang have a (potentially?) heated discussion about their different views and the show (once again) glossed over it. Personally I would have loved to have seen more from Blake in that moment there, because I feel so disconnected from her. Maybe in the future they'll do some more cool character trailers or shorts and Blake's one will feature her more specifically and not her WITH someone else.

Wee Lass Reacts

I think that's why it's something I will do with volume 10, because it will be fun! But for these current ones I want to wait and be surprised

Suplee215

As for the intros, I view them more as foreshadowing information than spoiling but I completely get why. I just view the Intros as part of the story telling. Totally a person's choice though.

EmberPanther

As always, loved the reaction! You are actually one of very few people who spotted the Grim watching them before it attacked, so hats off to you. Meet The Hound, the Grim that is universally agreed to be the scariest in the entire show! Also, the sounds are so incredibly horrible that they genuinely made me nauseous the first dozen times I heard them. My personal interpretation of why Blake went with Ruby rather than Yang has a few layers. First off, I agree that she chose to go on this mission because it is a stealth mission and she is best suited to that objective. Secondly, Blake knows how much Yang cares about Ruby and would be worried about her going on this mission without her being there to protect her, so Blake likely decided to go along with Ruby so that Yang knew someone she trusted wholeheartedly was watching out for Ruby. Thirdly, I think Blake was aware that her being a Faunus would unfortunately complicate trying to get people to cooperate, as was shown by the old lady resisting just the thought of being around the Faunus.

CB Jones

Ironwood only shot one of the councillors because he only needed to kill one to take over "legally". It's been a plot point that Ironwood holds 2 council seats, and therefore 2 votes on policy. The 2 councillors have held him at a stalemate, but with the Mantle seat empty he couldn't be outvoted, and it's part of how he got away with bending so many laws. By killing one of the councillors he now has 2 votes against a total of 1, he is in effect a dictator but is still working in accordance with Atlas' laws (minus the murder bit, but given he named his pistol "Due Process" I think he might not be worried about that). So it's there as a little window into how Ironwood sees himself, he's convinced still that he's in the right.

CB Jones

Blake going with Ruby happens for a couple of reasons, on a character level it's because she's always been a "bigger picture" person. She, like Ruby, wants to do what's best for everyone. On a narrative level, there's a little more. Remember Blake's previous patnership with Adam was controlling and abusive. We saw in his trailer that he responded to any disagreements with anger and manipulation. So the volume is paralleling and contrasting the way Adam treated Blake with how Yang treats Blake. And on Yang's end it's testing her trust in Blake coming back to her, something that she's lost and regained faith in but hasn't been tested on so much with how Blake has stuck to her side since their reunion. It's asking whether she's really grown beyond her own insecurities.

bloodyshadow1

not gonna lie, I kinda of wanted to hear all the bad things Mosco was gonna call Robyn before the reveal

James Derrick

Viz didn't buy RWBY til after Volume 9 when Rooster Teeth went up

John J Ronald

"It should not be that hard just getting people to cooperate" Remember that RWBY8 was worked on and released during and in the aftermath of the worst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Jase93

Calling the Ace-Ops losers just for the camera to flip around on a dead body did send me into orbit

John J Ronald

Blake seems to always side with Ruby, pretty consistently.

TheyWereMarried

The Ace Ops aren't inbred, they're brainwashed.

Symbolic Remnant

Spoiler rules seem to evolve over time and be especially strict for reactors. There are whole countries (outside the anglosphere) that literally do not care about being spoiled on a story. Shakespeare’s plays in his own era had no plot content that was a full surprise to the incoming audience

Mare

Yes Crunchyroll was a distributor but it was Barbara who mentioned that Crunchyroll had funded all of V9. If it wasn’t for Crunchyroll, she implied that Rooster Teeth would have had a tough time producing V9. And what sucks is that according to Eddy Rivas they also slashed the budget after they finished up to 7-8 episodes of v9. They had to remove 40 minutes of footage. They never explained why Crunchyroll cut the budget at the midnight hour though

Vic Walker

"Discrimination execution", soooo do you mean EXACTLY what Salem was doing before the divorce with Osma happened? Like, before Osma told her everything about what the God of Light said. They were becoming the new Gods of Remnant and killing every civilization that didn't agree with them.

Hollyhock

Ah yes, RWBY boys night vs girls night! (Yang is an honorary guy)

RenWillsen

With the whole Qrow being based on the scarecrow, I hope that the whole not having a brain thing was brought into Qrow's character through the alcoholism thing, and that he doesn't lose his mind later in the show, like how Ironwood lost his heart.

Vince

…..okay ngl, Mosco ranting about “I know how to analyze media!” only to immediately misinterpret Robin yelling at Jacq for scolding Qrow had me *on the floor*, I’ve done that EXACT thing 😂
