Bees!!!!! Blake making puns and being cheeky with Yang! They’re so cute! The little moment where their fingers almost touch! UGH! Just do it already! Come on! Watching these two gives me cuteness aggression. “Despite us.” Phew boy. What a line, short as it is. Then Ruby not having enough hope to fill the jar (which due to the camera angle holds Penny’s doll and then Little) is… a big yikes. Lindsey’s voice acting was so good this episode, holy shit. I teared up at Ruby’s eulogy for Penny. “I say we follow it and stop pretending we know what we’re doing.” Give therapy to all these kids please.

I love weiss in this volume, in dnd terms she isa bladesinger wizard who tries to rationalize and use logic for everything since intelligence is her main and highest stat, but this is wonderland, logic is based on wording rather than logic and she ranting and being overwhelmed in the background is funny 100% of the time And since this place is runned by moods and wording and intentions, is a 100% wonderland world, she cant rationalize it

It's exactly that: Blake thought Yang died. Now she has been given a new chance and she's not holding back. Ruby, poor gal, is wrestling with a ton of emotions and thoughts currently, there is no way she can be called oblivious when she is going through so much internally right now. You misunderstood the price Jinxy was asking of Yang; she would have to GIVE UP the feeling of knowing what it feels to be loved. As in, she no longer would know that feeling she has felt from Summer, Tai, Ruby, Blake, Weiss, etc. Not just from a specific person, but the feeling and knowledge alltogether. Hence her hesitation. The weather isn't tied to Ruby specifically, it just responds to emotions in general. It just happens to be mostly Ruby because she's going through some serious inner turmoil right now. Ruby is definitely in her own headspace right now, and has a long road ahead of her to deal with all she's going through. Might get...painful.

I have the theory that Little IS ruby's hope, thats why he falls asleep so often now since she has her hope in a dormant estate now, and the moment the jinxy asks for hope, she dont feel any, because Little was on other place, helping her get what she wanted, giving her 'hope' Pd. When jinxy lift the jar, we can see little and the doll that is Penny's sword inside the jar, that's her "Hope" right there and she dont feel like having enough for that since she lost Penny again

Heh, yeah. Elijah went on a whole section alone on discussing on that Bmblbee moment, and it's not surprising to hear her teasing you of the scene in that matter~ But yeah, Ruby is going through a lot. Despite pushing through impossible odds, she feels like the universe is out to get her specifically. Not just the fact that she lost Penny for the second time, but learning of the possible fate of her mother, along with the uncertainty of not knowing about what happened to the relics; and don't even get me started on the entire war against an immortal witch. And unfortunately, the other girls are getting distracted by the shenanigans of the Ever After to notice Ruby's struggles. It's certainly looking like she'll reach a breaking point if nothing is done.

When people hear the Red King, they always think of the Queen of Hearts. Nobody seems to remember that there was a character named the Red Queen. Granted, she wasn't in the movie version. I am disappointed Masco isn't watching the opening, but I'm not surprised. I don't think she ever watched the volume 8 opening.

The Ever After is definitely based on Wonderland. There's bisexual flag coloured flowers in the background of the flirting scene because Blake is bisexual. I've probably rewatched the Bumbleby flirting scene ~1,000 times if you count all the times I rewatched the episode, all the times I watched it while making a 4 or 5 hour long Bumbleby video, making fanvids, making gifs, looking at other people's gifs, watching other people's fanvids etc.

Yes the weather and to some extent, the environment, bugs and small critters and rain in this case, is effected by others. It's most definitely Ruby in this group, but it's clearly something the citizens of the Ever After are aware of. Might by because Ruby identified so clearly with the heroes of the stories she read and heard as a kid. Ruby desperately needs time to sit and grieve, but is in survival mode. The others try to talk to her, but she keeps putting them off or something will interrupt them right at that moment. And that last shot, yeah, it's tilted and distant and it's very clearly Ruby walking away and distancing herself from the others while still leading them. Yeah, I think you nailed it. Blake thought Yang died. She's amping the flirting up. Heck, could just be a byproduct of being happy Yang is alive and they are all together. I will note that, other than obviously not quite catching Yang as she fell, Blake and Yang are almost unnaturally in sync, but holding hands, that's new, so Yang is just enough behind her that it doesn't quite happen. Bumblebee is my OTP in this show, but Bee's Schnees, yeah, I see it. I prefer Beekeeper Weiss as wing woman, but I see it. It's cute. How many times did I rewatch that scene? Not as many as Elijah.

The Auction and how it unfolds is one of my favourite scenes in the show. We're told that Jinxy names "whatever price he wants" but that's not really true. He asks for a hug for the statue which Little tells us is very valuable, and then we discover that the statue is actually a mouse like Little. Jinxy's prices are whatever the "treasure" or it's previous owner valued most, it seems to be a deliberate ploy to extort anyone trying to buy back what was stolen in the way they'll feel the most. That's why Penny's sword was priced at "Enough hope to fill this jar", hope was Penny's driving force, even her last decision was driven by the hope that she could see Winter again. And that's why Yang was stumped by the price for her arm, because her missing limb wasn't worth giving up the feeling of being loved. How could it be? She lost her arm in the first place because she loves Blake and was desparate to protact her, she put herself back together out of love for Ruby so that she could be there for her. In a team of girls who have lofty ambitions in the world Yang has always stood out as the one who is mostly motivated by her desire to protect the other members of her team. Ruby was drawn to the doll because of her bond with Penny, but Yang felt nothing for the sceptre, because her arm is ultimately just a tool for her and has never meant as much as the people it allows her to protect, let alone the feeling of the love they show her in return.

Now that you're noticing how bad Ruby's mental state is I think its safe to point out that she's been sliding towards this ever since volume 4. There's momemts here and there but its particularly visible in volume 7/8 But before now there was always something to focus on. Get to mistral, save the lamp, get the lamp to Atlas, get Amity tower up, save Atlas... always something to distract from how she feels in the quieter moments thats been growing. And now there's nothing, they lost, and there's no clear next step to take so she's just sitting with her thoughts. So yeah, thats a thing.

Like so many other commenters, I also loved Weiss in this Volume. You even said Weiss is the comic relief in this volume. They don't have Nora after all (deep sighs) and they needed something to offset the angst and spiral you are predicting for young Ms Rose. I sort of wish that Elijah would just watch this whole volume with you, Mosco. Sincerely, watch five and six together. I love love love that Elijah has copied some RWBY dialogue or vibe in her flirtations with you :)

THE EYE COLOR SYMBOLISM!!!! THE MATCHING COLOR PALETTE SYMBOLISM!!!! I have watched this a few times, but you should really ask Elijah how many times she's rewatched it ;D buzz buzz :3 yes, Weiss is handling this splendidly. Weiss being the comic relief in this volume was such a pleasant surprise but well deserved, another indicator of how far she has come. Yang does have people who love her, but she also has major abandonment issues! her moms left, Blake left, even Ruby left after v3. Yang can't "trade" the feeling of being loved because it's so fleeting that she can't give it up. the humor in v9 is truly immaculate - RWBY has always been so good with weaving in humor like that since the start. of course v9 feels like a welcome reprieve after the events of v8... yep, this is not the usual Ruby. but it's been a long time coming...

I think some people’s minds go directly to “Alice in Wonderland” (the first book) rather than its sequel “Through the Looking Glass.” I always felt that the Ever After was an amalgamation of the two. To be fair, the one with the “Off with their heads!” Was actually the Queen of Hearts so that probably adds to the confusion. Although yeah, the Red Prince in this case is the one with the Chess pieces just like the Red Queen.

How many times have I watched that scene? Well, if we're not counting you (or Elijah) rewinding it... maybe 3 or 4. There are much better scenes to re-watch obsessively for reasons. Weiss, being the 'logical' one would naturally have the most issues with somewhere that doesn't exactly care about logic. And Ruby gives the eulogy for Nuts and Dolts. :( Of course Weiss is, herself, mourning her home as well. Blake and Yang are the ones in the 'best' mental states for this volume.

The 2nd are a set of 4 short segments of post volume content, called Volume 9 Beyond. Please react to them as they are currently considered working canon while volume 10 is in production.

Fun theories in the opening, also a shame you don't watch the intros, old or new, cause there's like... Authorial intent in you watching them. Oh also had a two day black out here, hence my late comment >< Also yeah Weiss is adjusting sooooo well, just great XD I also love how Yang was at first dubious but the second Weiss was critical of Blake's ideas was just like "Nah she's right" like girl get up lmao. Also Little remains precious as ever and good eye on seeking purposes and purpose equating to names! Aside but I like the detail of Yang clearly thinking on the themes of the book and having done so long before speaking to Blake. Also the sly detail of Blake placing an importance on local custom over pushing one's way into another culture and declaring you know best. Good eye on the stars! I LOVE reactions to "How disarming~" like how did she annunciate that symbol and italics XD Also nice character perspective and analysis there too! I have re-watched this scene soooo many times I lost count! Weiss Third-Wheel Schnee strikes again! Weiss is sad & Ruby tries to comfort but gets rejected, Weiss notices Ruby is sad & tries to comfort but gets rejected, the not cooping well partners everybody! Little is just a baby XD Also I love that Yang is low key the first one to realize that only by like a second or two but in animation every scene counts. Love all the subtle body language and background stuff that goes on in RWBY but especially this volume with such a colorful background, also yeah Weiss was 100% trolling haha. Weiss said they read it when they were kids, but we don't know beyond that. Blake lit major - "What does your heart tell you?" Yang engineer major - "That one is roughly arm sized." The thing is Yang would have to trade knowing what it is to feel loved for her arm. Also I love how fae realm-ish the Ever After is. Fun detail but Little was briefly seen inside the jar, also yeah big oof on Ruby's seeming lack of hope. Lover all their reactions to the theft and the expedient retreat XD Also hah, the tree really does not appreciate Weiss's creative critique! One thing I think a lot of people forget is how pressed for time everyone on RWBY must feel as they understand it while they are being jerked around by trees and sales people the evacuation to Vacuo is not only still ongoing but likely in need of reinforcement, let alone the greater war against Salem, I feel this informs a lot of their "Focus on getting out now" attitude. I love how Ruby has steadily become so much more eloquent as the series has gone on, such a touching eulogy. Good eye on the camera angle, also! Ruby: & Stop pretending we know what we're doing. Also she had more general optimism, Qrow was out there, Leo might help, Ozpin came back, Ironwood could turn things around, etcetera. But then Qrow started collapsing in on himself, Leo was a traitor, Ozpin bailed, Ironwood just got worse and worse. She's steadily had reasons for optimism ripped from her while having more and more weight put on her shoulders as the people who should be bearing said weight shirk their duty or fail miserably or come to rely on her.

Little is an allusion to the Dormouse of OG Alice in Wonderland. Has the same root as words like Dormitory [lit. place for sleeping] & the verb for "sleep" in Spanish/French: dormir, probably so named for their long hibernation periods. Real world dormice look more like a variety of Gerbil than true mice like Little but that's a minor quibble. Some also linguists also dispute this etymology altogether, but Lewis Carrol seems to have accepted it because his Dormouse character also fell asleep quite often in Alice in Wonderland. Little behaves the same.

I feel so bad for Weiss because on top of being the one who has ALWAYS tried to be the most logical and strategic of the group, she also just lost her entire home, witnessed a friend die, and has no idea what has become of her planet or wether she’ll see it or anyone she knows again. And now she’s stuck in a fairytale where all logic she knows has been thrown out the window and all of her intelligence and strategy means absolutely nothing anymore.

If she had thrown the rock anywhere else, it wouldn't have hit her, but because she threw it while going, "Stupid tree!", it had to not go toward the tree and hit her. XD
