Seriously? Ok. True confession. I’ve never actually watched this movie. So it’ll be like Mosco and I are watching it for the first time together.

RaisedEyebrow

Hooboy. Can't watch right now because I'm at work, but this is a core memory of my childhood, and one of my bittersweet favorites. And easily one of my favorite nostalgic scores. If We Hold On Together sung by Diana Ross STILL gets me misty eyed, even now.

Eliteguard99

You’re reacting to the movie I watched on repeat when I was a little kid?! How unexpected! I love it!

Daniel Davies

Don Bluth famously said this about his movies, (At least for his 80s films), ‘Kids can handle anything as long as you slap on a happy ending’.

LaviPastelQueen

Absolutely love this movie also love Judith barsi (the little girl who played ducky sadly she was k*lled by her stupid pos father r.i.p she was one of the best she had so much talent that he ruined selfishly 😔) sorry if that was sad info I just wasn't sure who all knew about her and what happened but I love this movie since I love dinosaurs the series was always a fav.

xattygt

Wasn't expecting this but its time to reexperience my childhood

Adan Guzman

Are you really gonna make us watch this on MOTHER’S DAY WEEK?! You’re too much of a savage for that. 😭 This is still a fantastic movie after all these years and it still holds up. It’s still my favorite dinosaur movie.

Carlos Guzman

I'm glad the memory of Judith Barsi remains alive and well 🙏

Adan Guzman

I still get depressed for her last line in “All Dogs Go To Heaven”

Wee Lass Reacts

OH FUCK YOU'RE RIGHT!!! I forgot it was Mothers Day soon in America, I could have saved it for the actual DAY! DAMN, missed opportunity!!

Liam Gradwell

What a surprise. It’s been so long since I watched any of these movies. The first one is so much more emotional when watching it as an adult. 😭

Christopher Malone

oh, oh no. Mosco why did you do this to yourself? YOU NEED TO BE PREPPED IF YOU NEVER SAW THIS MOVIE AS A KID CAUSE OTHERWISE IT WILL EFF YOU UP!

Angelus Lupus

OMFG who decided to inflict this pain on Mosco? I cried not long back just listening to the soundtrack on youtube - go on, do it and read the comments, it's a shared trauma. Don Bluth man, what a run of great cartoons to terrify, and melt the hearts of everyone!

Angelus Lupus

It effs you up even if you saw it multiple times as a child! No one is immune!

Dustin Nelson

When I was like 3 or 4 my mom was starting to get kinda abusive towards me a lot and I started trying to avoid her. But this movie made me go wake her up and give her a hug when I first saw it at that time

PinkPonytail _Girl

I love this movie! It is a childhood favorite of mine! I watched like all of the other movies they made after this one. 😁😁😁❤❤❤

LaviPastelQueen

Oh also if you are interested and haven't seen it already you could always check out the cartoon dinosaur king it's a pretty good series imo you might like it

EDHPlayer

Holy crap, nostalgia at its finest vintage

Gourmande

An American Tale is really good. All Dogs Go to Heaven too. Also Anastasia Don Bluth did a lot of good stuff, there are also some misses

Alex Malix

So I remember seeing this movie in Theaters for my birthday. It was back when theaters would do second releases (because VHS was just starting to take off for) so I was 6 or 7

Meloney

I’d love to see your reaction to the rest of the movies and the show

MaoDoodles

God, I forgot how much this movie does not hold back punches. So beautifully made and still a treasure to this day. Believe it or not, some of the sequels are great too. Hits or misses, of course, since there's 14 of them haha. Rip Judith Barsi as well, her voice being memorialized in this movie is a blessing.

Christopher Malone

but to paraphrase Bane, we have lived through it, been shaped and molded by it. We were effed up by it but we have... not overcome but have been inoculated to it and are better able to help those that are unexposed to it

xattygt

The other movies are still good films but this first one is truly special

Phoenix_mercury

I wonder if it was ever put together that tri-Cera-tops... Cera... Triceratops 👀

Evil Queen

I used to watch this series when I was little repeatedly, love that you’re reacting to it!

Dinozar-Rex

"If We Hold On Together" by Dianna Ross is the theme. Mosco you're not the only one who's lost family recently. My only younger brother loved this film and ended his own life. We still love and miss him as he lives on in our hearts.

morthasa

A sobbing mess. Yeah, checks out. Going through that during primary school was dire.

Zzyzzx

1:33:28 thank god for the boulder otherwise they would’ve died from hindsight.

Cropper

I have a dvd box set of a bunch of these films, as a child I'd watch them over and over, a few years back I decided to try watching this film for a bit of nostaliga... hysterical sobbing is the best way to describe my reaction

Brendon J. Dube

I remember watching this on VHS when I was a kid. I won't have time to watch this reaction until Tuesday, but now I have something to look forward to

morthasa

If this is going to be a thing, I can't recommend "Mrs. Brisby and the Secret of NIMH" enough Alternatively, Klaus (a 2019 Christmas movie) that goes hard with the old-school hand-drawn style.

Annieme

Thank you for giving us the devastation of this movie during Mother’s Day weekend 😂💜 how dare. Lmao

Faroth

There are 14 movies in The Land Before Time franchise... yeah, they overexploit it 😂🤣

Athena

Aw man, this was one of my favorites growing up. I loved dinosaurs and I'd watch the Land Before Time series on repeat next to my dinosaur documentaries and cartoons lol. To answer your question about the lava: Yes and no. Dinosaurs could handle much higher temperatures than humans can, but a large part of that is the environment they were born into. The Mesozoic era was super hot, meaning they were used to high temperatures in general. But for the most part they would burn near lava like any other creature, we don't have evidence to suggest that their scales protected them against extreme temperatures! And even if they could, just being near Lava would cause extreme respiratory issues. So yeah, cartoon logic lol

Jyoster

It really shows how desperate the Sharptooth is to get something to eat, if the Leafeaters are struggling to find food, so are the Sharpteeth. And it explains why they keep going after the kids. ugh! What is it with these franchises and embedding trauma into leaves? It's bad enough when RWBY does it!

Cropper

Watching this reaction and realising this might genuinely be one of the most devastating deaths in a kids film especially one that was rated U (also known as G). I love how it was handled even though it destroys me

Seraitsukara

I loved this seris when I was a kid! I don't think I've seen past the 4th or 5th one? There are so many now!! You should watch the Guardians of Ga'Hoole! It adapts the first 3 books of the series, and despite making some big changes, it's still really good!

Kane_Zou

God I love The Land Before Time series! Soon to get a tattoo of the main cast ^^ But speaking of animals own language and stuff…has anyone told you about the Warrior Cat series by Erin Hunter? Another favorite series and amazing fandom (art wise) anyways, cars in their language are monsters! Humans are two legs and house cats are called kitty pets!

Ovlena

Mosco: *Theorizing what’s going to happen in the movie while the mom was still around* Me: oh you sweet summer child

Kadence Robertson

OMG this was so unexpected! you should watch The Good Dinosaur!! (if u haven't already)

Rixec2

If you haven't seen it, I'd love to see you react to The Castle of Cagliostro. And here's some sad trivia about The Land Before Time. Ducky was played by Judith Barsi, also having a role in All Dogs Go to Heaven. Sadly, she never got to see the premieres of either movie, as she was killed at ten years old along with her mother by her abusive father, who took his own life two days later. Both her and her mother's graves were unmarked for years, but plenty of her fans got together to raise money to mark their graves.

Rene Sevillano

Just popped into my head for "Dinosaur" intros! Tyranno- Sirs, Tyranno- Madams 🤣

Deco the Artist

Will admit, if you're emotionally vulnerable, Don Bluth might not be the best choice to dive into; the guy doesn't pull his punches when it comes to the tear-jerker moments. Plenty of modern movies have a main character that loses/has lost a parent, but with Bluth, they linger on it. You WATCH them grieve! Still, if you enjoyed Land Before Time, you might check out some other Don Bluth classics, particularly All Dogs Go to Heaven and The Secret of NIMH, the latter of which is widely considered his opus~ Also, you say you remember (and were, appropriately, scarred by) the Watership Down movie adaptation. Might you consider checking out the animated series? Either the four-episode one that was made in 2018, or the 2D animated one from '99. I rather like both!

Akka

This series was a big part of my childhood, so seeing this movie again as an adult was definitely an emotional roller coaster.

Melody

Some fun facts from someone who loves this series, or at least the first 10 movies, so fucking much! 1) Cera's name is spelt the way it is to be punny on Triceratops and Ceratopsia, the biological suborder that Triceratops and their cousins belong to. 2) Not so fun, but notice how we always saw Cera's mom and she mentioned sisters? Only her Dad greets her when she gets to the valley when everyone else was greeted by their whole family and it is heavily implied through the rest of the series that Cera and her dad were the only ones from their herd who made it. 3) This movie took so many liberties with the species lol but it actually isn't so crazy to think the predators would go after babies like that, despite the size difference. While Sharptooth chasing them like he did was definitely not worth the energy he would have gotten from eating them, it was so fucking barren out there that I don't think he cared. He was probably just as desperate for food as the babies. 4) There were more than ten sequels! I didn't watch them all but I had the first ten movies on VHS growing up and adored them all. While none of the sequels touch the masterpiece that is the original the next nine films are such a fun ride and cover some pretty deep themes in their own right like segregation, trauma, family, and redemption. I highly recommend watching in your own time even if you don't for the channel. Warning ahead for your editors, though, all of the sequels are musicals with at least 2 or 3 songs if I remember correctly.

LaviPastelQueen

I was thinking the same thing with the leaf lol

Tristan N Milner

On the subject of Don Bluth films, if you haven't already reacted to them, I'd recommend An American Tail and The Secret of NIMH. The latter of which is considerable darker since is was released in 1982, years before the PG-13 rated was implemented. Fun movie trivia: In 1984, Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom, as well as Gremlins, received heavy feedback from parents complaining about how violent they were, resulting in the creation of the PG-13 rating in America. The former was edited down in the UK to prevent an 18 certificate.

Evil Queen

This is obviously a favorite because it’s the first, but the one with Chomper will always stay with me too.

CaptainChar

you're not ready for Don Bluth films... most are pretty dark but great

Kriscerosaurus

One of my earliest memories is standing in the lobby of the theater with my mother, waiting to go in and get our seats for this.

Eliteguard99

Scientific fun fact: Spike and Littlefoot are dinosaurs from the Jurassic period while Sera and Ducky are from the late Cretaceous period. Sera and Ducky are closer in time to us humans (65ish million years) than they are to Littlefoot and Spike, who pre-date Sera and Ducky by over 80 million years.

Otaku Twenty-Four Seven

My childhood, right in the feels. As others have pointed out, All Dogs Go To Heaven is another masterpiece by Don Bluth you should definitely watch after this. Emotional damage!

Athalia

Slightly more fun movie req. Not Don but also a George Lucas film strange magic. Its funny and musical animation so maybe patreon exclusive because of the music

Kintatsu

>Be me >Open Patreon to catch up on Mosco’s RWBY reactions (currently 1/2way through volume 5) >See this post >“Hell yeah! I love watching her get emotionally destroyed!” >Get to the earthshake scene >Have tears in my eyes >“Oh no”

CaptainChar

I don't know if you could handle "All dogs go to heaven" then

ShadeWolf

Oh boy! I get to cry today! 😅🥳

Yoshinatorsaurus

You're posting this on MOTHER'S DAY WEEKEND!? That is just evil. 😈 And I love it! I wasn't expecting a movie reaction anytime soon, let alone one of the greatest animated masterpieces of all time. Don Bluth in the 80's could NOT be topped. I'd love to see your thoughts on more classics like this. Thank you.

ShadeWolf

Sarah is also a yellow or blonde character...just saying lol

Michael Doppel

58:59 I have NEVER seen her move that fast before! That was incredible! lmao

Ryan

This came out in 1988? So did I! Three weeks after my due date, as my mother never lets me forget. ... "It's a children's cartoon, how traumatizing could it be?" Yes. "What did we watch as children!?" Watership Down, The Brave Little Toaster, The Fox and the Hound, Lion King, Hunchback of Notre Dame... back then we got properly traumatized. Nowadays the "villain" is just generational trauma and animation budgets are large enough that they don't have to kill them off in the first five minutes. Cera, She-Ra, Vi ... I'm sensing a theme in Mosco's favorites. Don Bluth would have worked under the Nine Old Men when he was at Disney, and it shows. Gods classic hand drawn animation is so pretty. You can iterate ad nauseam with CG animation but pencil and paper requires continuous perfection. And don't even get me started on stop motion! ... For animated films to react to, I highly recommend "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?" in the off chance that you've never seen it.

Matt’s wrld

If you haven't already watched How to Train Your Dragon, that would be a good movie to react to

Hearsvoices

This movie is the oldest theater going experience I can actually remember. I was 5 years old. I remember one of the sharp-tooth jump scare scenes made me jump out of my seat and start running away up the aisle away from the screen. I guess the shock made me forget it wasn't real and then part way up the aisle it wore off and I turned around and was immediately entranced by the movie again. Walked back to me seat and sat back down. One of my all time favorite kids/family movies.

EDub

Same

YNB

Bruh, this is the one you need emotional support for.

Verdigree

The one I remember is Ferngully: The Last Rainforest, the one that made a BIG impression on my older sister was The Secret of NIMH, which tends to be pretty memorable for reasons, I think it would be very entertaining

Verdigree

Speaking of other movies from a similar era, Rankin-Bass’s adaptation of The Hobbit I would recommend over Peter Jackson’s any day, and The Last Unicorn is a masterpiece

Wee Lass Reacts

That one i have seen, its one of my absolute favourites!!

Justin Riley

An excellent but gut wrenching movie. Nobody made them quite like Don Bluth did.

Enby_Ember

i wanna know your thoughts on brave

Chet Bliese

Don Bluth films. A hug and a gut punch.

Jittercritter

The first Land Before Time movie has such a unique style in that it blends a fake nature documentary type of style with a fictional/xenofiction character driven style. Such a cool genre mash and it isn’t really done anywhere else as far as I’m aware!

Joey Quixote

I'm old enough to remember seeing this in theaters. I wasn't emotionally mature enough to get sad over it, but revisiting it in adulthood... and I'm an absolute mess on a Saturday morning. No wonder my mom never stuck around when we watched it. I'd be here for a revisiting of The Secret of NIMH! Loved that movie growing up. We watched a ton of cartoons and animated movies growing up. A few older recommendations whether or not you've seen them: -The Last Unicorn Excellent fantasy story about... well... the Last Unicorn, as she flees something seeking to bring about her extinction. Unicorns are Scottish. It's thematic to the channel. -The Enchanted Journey Dunno if I'd call it anime, but certainly Eastern animation. A domestic chipmunk hears tales of The Great North Forest and decides to go there. -Ferngully: The Last Rainforest Came out when conserving the Rainforest was all the rage. Also has the talents of Tim Curry and Robin Williams. -The Chipmunk Adventure Much more commercial, but I used to love this one. The Chipmunks and The Chippettes engage in a race around the world in a battle of the sexes with loads of musical numbers.

Allan Robertson

When I saw the title popup in my email, my first thought was 'kleenex factory on standby' this one is a sad one. Even so it's a great movie with some amazing animation. I first saw this in about 92 or 93, my mum taped on VHS. I would watch it now and again for a few years, ducky was my fave.

Bruhwley

Have you seen the iron giant?

Heather Mayhew

I think you would like Miraculous Ladybug. It has amazing lore, great stories, and incredible characters. Its about a girl who becomes a superhero after being chosen to be the holder of an ancient relic that has the power of creation. She partners up with a boy who holds the power of destruction. The two battle against an evil villain who uses his own powers to corrupt people's emotions to create villains. It also as an adorable yet frustrating love square because of secret identities. It's on Disney plus and Netflix, its on season 6 with a projected 12 season or longer run and has a full length movie and several specials. It has a diverse cast and lgbt characters. The voices of the main characters are Cristina Vee and Bryce Papenbrook.

Shay

As a child, I *despised* Sarah and still do, she's literally a bully and never actually learned anything or improved like everyone else did😮‍💨

Tristan N Milner

The Last Unicorn would need to censor the Harpy scene for YouTube. Her reacting to the tree will be worth it though. Funny how both The Hobbit films are massively flawed in opposite ways. Jackson's are way too long and Rankin-Bass is way too short. Also Rankin-Bass has some atrociously bad Elf designs. Nothing like the book.

Serinthia Kelberry

The thing about Don Bluth in the 80s, with films like this and The Secret of NIMH and An American Tail...he was on a mission back then. He and his fellow animators quit Disney because, at this point in history, Disney had given up for the most part. Their founder was dead and they weren't taking the risks that Walt himself once had done. They kept making "Safe" animation. Don Bluith's goal was to prove....and I think he did, admirably...that animation could tell complex stories to appeal, once again, to the whole family and not aim solely at kids. I have a lot of respect for him for pulling that off. He did kinda flounder in the 90s, especially once Disney took his inspiration and kicked off their golden age, but I think Don Bluth gave western mainstream animation the kick in the ass it really needed at the time.

Tristan N Milner

Addressing the credits. Yes, both George Lucas and Steven Spielberg had their own film houses at that time but where executive producers on this film. Fun Movie Making Trivia: George Lucas signed away his Director's Fee on the original Star Wars in exchange for a cut of the toy sales. He used that money to not only independently finance the next five Star Wars films but he also heavily invested in Digital Filmmaking technologies. A lot of digital video and audio editing software, including Photoshop, exist as a result of Lucas not wanting future filmmakers to be gatekept. He felt making movies shouldn't be limited by a group of industry insiders. Sad trivia: Duckie's VA has the "Yep! Yep! Yep!" on her tombstone. Fun Wee Lass Patreon Trivia: released in 1988, this is the oldest Movie you've reacted to. K-Pop Demon Hunters being the most recent.

Tristan N Milner

56:40 the spiritual sequel to "Catra, No!" Hoping one day we'll have the full series on Blu-ray with cast and crew commentary tracks and bloopers.

Liam

If you're looking for more animated movie recommendations, I'd suggest any of the Cartoon Saloon movies. The Secret of Kells, The Song of the Sea, The Breadwinner, Wolfwalkers. Also, not really something you could react to, but if your into stories like Watership Down and Secret of NIMH there's a web comic called Scurry. Definitely worth a look.

William Wilson

Another movie I would love to a reaction of is Bridget to terabithia. Don’t worry it’s not as sad as this one (it’s worse)

William Wilson

I would absolutely love to see your reactions to more of the land before time movies. It was one of my favourite movie series growing up right next to Scooby doo

-ImSn-TheExecutioner

Wow, I absolutely loved these movies growing up, so cool to see you reacting to this these movies are absolutely amazing. I would love to see you reacting the rest as well.

Angelus Lupus

I actually had to pause this multiple times because I got emotional watching it affect Mosco! Side note about mentioning the asteroid (re. the end of the dinosaurs): When this film came out it was still unknown/debated as to what the cause was (the earthquakes and volcanoes theory was a strong contender) - it's surprisingly recent that the impact site at Chicxulub was established as the main culprit.

Craig York (Yorkie)

Another classic Don Bluth film I recommend is An American Tail. There's also a nostalgic one from 1985, The Black Cauldron, used to watch that regularly as a kid. Plus when I was a little older I used to watch Willow religously. Jumanji also has some good memories. My absolute favourite childhood film however, is Muppets Treasure Island!

Craig York (Yorkie)

Some good live action films as well. Recommend The Dark Crystal, also Time Bandits and The Adventures of Baron Munchausen by Terry Gilliam.

detective potato

I don't know if you've seen it but even if you did could you please react to Brave.

Novakira

fellow elder millennial here! i loved these movies growing up! I had almost all of them on vhs. been a while since ive seen any of them, cried along with you on this reaction. would love to see you react to some of the other land before time movies.

Aiko

Mosco forgot it's an older animated movie with a nice parent in it, of course she's gonna die, they never let them be happy and alive long

Aiko

Same, i'm sobbing already 'cause little foot reminds me of my little brother

Aiko

Why? Why do we need tissues? What happens?

Aiko

The way he's voice broke 😭

Aiko

47:45 as soon as i heared her voices i feelt my tears coming back

Raiza Morata

37:35 Yeah… this is horrible… I still cry my eyes out over it to this day. The music back then was so good… damn… it gives me chills and brings back so many memories. My favorite dinosaurs have always been the long-necks, apatosaurus, brachiosaurus, etc. haha I even have a tattoo of them. Damn, I’ve watched this movie a million times and I was crying the whole time with you haha

•☽Tessaraꨄ︎Scorpia☾•

The second, third and fourth felt like good continuations for the films (i have seen all of them as a kid admittedly) but the second one and third one for sure are totally worth a rewatch through ❤️

Stellar Kruize

I was crying even before anything happened from the trauma this movie caused me as a child lol

Stellar Kruize

A movie I absolutely loved as a kid growing up isn't on a lot of people's radars, so not really a reaction suggestion. I loved Little Nemo as a kid. It's pretty well animated for it's time.

BakaSama

Don Bluth has put out some great animated films. One that I would highly recommend is The Secret of Nimh. If you’re looking for other older animated films to react to, I’d like to suggest Wizards by Ralph Bakshi. It’s got Wizards, Elves, Mutants and Nazis. It’s trippy, especially with Bakshi’s use of rotoscoping. It does have blood in it, but nothing on the scale of like Helluva Boss or Invincible.

Tristan N Milner

I'll argue that the first time Sharptooth attacked Littlefoot, his mom showed up. If not for the earthquake, Sharptooth would've eaten well. The next time, there where more kids. More kids, more parents, more food. Also, in the third act, he was ahead of the kids on the path to the great valley. He was looking for a full meal the whole time.

BigPoppaJohn89

Don Bluth movies are great you should react to another one like An American Tail

detective potato

So interesting fact. Trex was an ambush predator. Meaning you didn't see or hear them till it was too late.

Adam McLeod

Might I suggest a slightly less emotionally devastating film in "The Flight of Dragons" for an unappreciated 80's classic.

Reiicakes

Aww this is a treat. :3 I was obsessed with the movie as a child. My other absolute favorite Don Bluth films are Anastasia and All Dogs go to heaven!

Fusssel

ah, the childhood memories.

Fusssel

growing up getting read the original Grimms Fairy Tails to as good night stories, watching these children movies, we had a great childhood. And I mean this unironically.

David G.

If I remember correctly, they added the scene with "Rooter" because it was just so grim. They needed someone to tell Littlefoot that its not his fault. "It's not your fault. It's not your mother's fault. It's nobody's fault."

ItsKyle

ur evil... i love it xD

Spadez

You got me crying. When he is talking to the old dino and you are talking about these messages being watered down now a days.....you losing a lot in the past and being real. We both cryin our eyes out. TT_TT Had to stop subscribing for a while (finally back). Gram got diagnosed with Dementia and it has been full time care. When you mentioned your nan it made me realized why I subscribed to begin with. We have a lot in common. I hope your day goes well, I hope you truly are enjoying life! I am so proud of you with what you have created! I told you Years ago when I first saw you and your mic was SUPER quiet...you are gunna go far kid! This is just the beginning! Buckle up!

Wealthy Toad

I think after me and my brother watched this movie we went to the library and get this GIANT dinosaur book and by giant I mean it was like absurdly big not even a lot of pages XD And we would play zombie apocalypse but we would go but we're getting attacked by this dinosaur and point at the photos

Herbie Wiles

I really hope she reacts to more Don Bluth movies. Especially An American Tail, thats one of my favorites.

dannyzee123

If you're looking for recommendations for other movies in a similar vein, I know you mentioned you've already seen Secret of NIMH, but it's still good to rewatch. Also, there's the An American Tail series of movies, as well as All Dogs Go To Heaven, both also by Don Bluth. There's also Brave Little Toaster and Once Upon a Forest. Have fun (and bring tissues and blood pressure medication)!

Prise par J.A.Z.

Can't help but think your harsh words were still too kind to that wretch of an existence.

Devon Smith

I was honestly starting to get concerned when I didn't cry at the death of Little Foot's mother. Thankfully, the repeated emotional beating finally got a few tears out of me by the time the dew on the Tree Star carried his mother's message, so I'm not quite emotionally dead for whatever that's worth.

Devon Smith

59:00 I hereby dub the unconscious Sharp Tooth 'Well enough', because Cera just couldn't leave it alone.

Andy 322

You're not the only one whose lines get weird subtitles. Just check what Littlefoot's "mum" says at 44:02.

Andy 322

Mosco: sobbing like a baby over Littlefoot’s mom. Me: “Hahahah, other people’s suffering is fun.” Mosco: “Ducky is so cute!” Me: …
