This and the finale are the perfect culmination as to why I love this series. I mentioned this before but Amphibia out of the 3 big Disney shows of the 2010s (Gravity Falls and The Owl House) is the most episodic but in my opinion, given that it’s a character driven series, it works to its advantage. Hop Pops little speech to Anne meant something because despite her flaws, we’ve seen her go from humble beginnings and well being who she was in the beginning to now being rewarded an annual award because we’ve seen over the course of the season how much she’s grown. We’ve seen her bond with the Plantar family, we’ve seen her get to know Wartwood, we watched them grow attached to her over time. That’s why it always irritates me whenever someone makes the claim about how much “filler” season 1 has. Honestly, people have been misusing the term filler for years and I blame anime for this. It’s such a shame that if an episode doesn’t connect to the story/lore then it’s labeled filler. It’s even worse when people actually suggest skipping most of season 1 and just watch the first episode, episode 10 and the final two episodes. Imagine if they did that with Steven Universe and skip most of the Townie episodes. How are we supposed to care for the characters whenever danger or certain events occur when y’all are too busy trying to get to the good stuff. News flash: there’s good stuff when you’re taking in the world and appreciating the time you have with the characters and the world they live in. It’s a shame because episodic content has been taken for granted these days. Whether it’s due to streaming services or people’s attention span being worse than a two year old baby, or both. Nowadays shows with 8-10 episodes seasons people want more episodic shenanigans. Should’ve thought about that before you unnecessarily complained about it. Didn’t know what you had until you lost it. The title of the first episode is a reference to the 1984 horror film "Children of the Corn" in which children in a small Nebraska Town form a demonic cult.

"Children of the Spore" I get that children Can be a lot of trouble But mind control, dude? -Anne's disrespect for authority on display again. I love that "Boo...". Wonder where she gets that from... -This whole episode is a horror show. From the mind controlled villagers to the villain being devoured. Just... yikes... -When the cats are being particularly annoying, I break out the catnip. Chills them right out. Not mind control, but a little unethical I suspect. "Anne of the Year" A celebration, For the city's newest "frog". But what of her guest? -In "Anne of the Year" Sasha is revealed to be the guest waiting for Anne. -Anne getting cleaned up never lasts. The shoe goes, the leaves return. Maybe she is cursed. -Sprivy! These adorable little dorks! -On the topic of shipping, yes, there is a segment of the fandom (and Elijah) that ships Sasha and Anne. Some insist Anne fell for Sasha, but I think most of them claim it's the other way around. Im very excited for the finalé! Don't worry! Everything will be fine! And if it isn't, at least you have Elijah to lean on. She'll be your friend. She'll help you carry on.

Children of the Spore: Featuring references to Children of the Corn, Night of the Living Dead, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, and The Last of Us. Add Cordyceps to the list of dangers in this world. Model ship builders can be obsessive. By the way, that’s Jeremy the Beetle who we’ve seen before getting taken over at the end. Anne of the Year. 99 people can praise you but the one critic can drive you mad. Anne can rock a Thai Dress and a suit. There’s a fashion icon that’s waiting to emerge. Anne is such a shipper for Sprig and Ivy. Yo Stumpy, you have cut the fish up earlier. No wonder it went on a rampage. Anne sees Sasha and we see her joy at being reunited with her friend. Then we get the reveal of Grime and Company. Uh oh. Next week: Buckle up.

Even without the additional meaning, which does matter, I think people miss that the point of the show is not to reach the end. Like, of course I want the plot to advance too, but why would I want *less* time with the characters? People who skip episodes are the perfect example of missing the forest for the trees.

Yeah and sometimes they have the audacity to want to see more of the show and characters like an epilogue of some kind but the show is already over. You should’ve appreciated your time with the characters instead of rushing to get to the next plot point. Now you’re stuck creating interpretations through fanfics. People really should appreciate whenever shows do have more down to earth/chill time to appreciate the characters more. It’s about the Journey not the destination (one of my favorite things about Frieren iykyk) though I guess if the ending is bad then was the journey worth it? I guess that’s the interesting thing, because endings are everything. Like okay, Scenario 1: imagine you’re on this bumpy a$$ roadtrip. It starts off well and everyone is excited. Several hours in the car traveling later, You’re annoyed, your family starts getting on your nerves. This feels like hell. And then all of a sudden you’re at Disney world and you had the greatest time of your life. So was it worth it? The destination made it worth my while so I would say so. Scenario 2: it’s the reverse. Basically you have a very exciting and fun roadtrip. But then you get to Disney World only to discover that they shut down. So it’s like I had a really great time but that last part kinda sucks. So would I rather have a satisfying journey but a disappointing destination or have a very rocky, irritating journey but an unforgettable satisfaction of a destination? I don’t know 🤷, it mostly depends on the person. Thankfully there’s scenarios where both positives and negatives can coexist within the same context (the good journey with a positive destination for example). Sorry I went on another tangent but you get my point.

It’s a fun short but it does fill you in on stuff from Sasha’s story that wasn’t said in the show. And can easily be done in the same reaction as the first season 2 episode

Yeah, Anne of the Year does a good job of showing how Anne's journey has done so much good for her throughout the season, as all those episodic episodes showed her growth through everyday life in this world.
