Best part of Rex's character growth is it doesnt feel oit of character. Hes just getting his crap together

Allermann

36:30-42:50 Chef's kiss

Vlee

The bit with the Seance Dog animation is so funny and cheeky, especially since in the comics, it was a bit about saving time and money in comic books, haha

Amadeo Escobedo

A bit of misandry is understandable LOL. Even for men, a lot of our abusers were other men.

Trey Goldsworthy

Debbie is and always will be one of if not the greatest mother in all of fiction.

Trey Goldsworthy

This episode officially cemented at least for me that Donald is the fkn GOAT.

BigPoppaJohn89

the thing is no one cares about men's mental health because that's the harsh reality that we men live in that no one cares no one listens and we can't open up to women cause either they laugh at it, make fun of it or take advantage of it. its either suffer in silence or open up to the wrong person to make us feel worse. Im sorry to say all that but im a realist and that is a real man's reality. But if you're mentally suffering then go to therapy, seeing a therapist doesn't make you weak facing your demons and willing to change to make yourself happier makes you strong

Dustin Nelson

Cecil is giving Sinclair donated corpses for the re-animen

Sweet N Savory Venom

@1:11:57, yes we are going to gloss over that. It's the U.S. government, the only unethical stuff they answer to is the stuff that they've been irrefutably caught doing. And often times those are leaked on purpose to serve a greater purpose or distract from even worse things. Otherwise its deny the accusations, cover up the crimes and browbeat investigators into stop asking questions. Also meet Anissa, she's flipping terrifying!! And hot, she's terrifying and hot!

Suplee215

We dont see them but Cecil does have therapists on payroll. Rick and William talk about what the therapist said. Certainly could be more present.

Florena Emberlin

I love the creator of seance dog scene. In the comic, it was a similar gag but about how comics work, and they did a great job adapting the joke to animation.

Shay

The new reanimen are all agents that agreed for their dead bodies to be used, Sinclair is not allowed to get any sources of his own and he's not allowed to have living people to experiment on

DiamondDawg

I think a reason why many consider S2 the "weakest" season even by the creator himself which isn't saying much because this is a very good season is that this season has a lot of setup but not much payoff. Most of the plotlines in this season are just set up to have major payoffs in S3 and 4 which is fine. Nothing wrong with a season that's more build up as long as it's written well and this certainly is. Oh and this season had a midseason break which kind of killed the momentum of this season to fans unfavorably

Trey Goldsworthy

This really is honestly my favourite animated series currently since it first came out, the writing is just phenomenal, and au cant thank Robert Kirkman for it especially since he wrote the original comics series which was already good in my book but his writing in this series is better and even he has stated that this is like a 2nd and better draft for his writing.

LikeCat

I cried during that scene between him, Rick and William... And didn't even noticed it at first. But afterwards I loudly went "Fuck man...that got me"

Trey Goldsworthy

Same, not ashamed to admit I cried during the scene though I cried a lot during this whole series.

Vlee

I think Cecil said last time the Reanimen were brought up were veterans who donated their bodies, not people who were alive, better than nothing? But ya know, still fucked

Suplee215

As Mosco points out, the position of a man and women conversation puts women at a deep disadvantage. Men are worried of being made fun of. You heard what women fear. Its certainly a problem for men and trust me know I know. Its also a problem created by men and currently being abused by those in control of the patriarchy to make things worse. Theres no easy solution.

Martin E Melcher

It was also told to us that Sinclair is working on corpses. People who donated their bodies (presumably)

Suplee215

When a more mainstream show has mainstream audiences saying a certain season is bad I am pretty sure it means I love it. The current state of media is bad because theres a strange focus on plot beyond anything else. And character development is seen as boring and not worth it if not outright divisive. I felt this with RWBY too and even movies like star wars. Most people watch this season and thinks nothing happens because its just setting up more viltrimite stuff with an ending not much different than season 1. Mark and earth are still helpless to viltrimites and just wondering what do you do.

Sweet N Savory Venom

I mean when they were used on Nolan, Cecil said that they were dead soldiers serving their country one more time. Then again I guess that in this universe ya gotta be careful what forms you sign when enlisting cuz ya might give the government permission to do stuff like this, Heck for all we know, some of these folks being used could just be organ donors.

Meãjay

Mosco: “How much does it cost every time he teleports away?” Do you know the gross economic output of Lichtenstein? Mosco: “Not even a little.” More than that.

Suplee215

My thought process on the viltrimites is very different. The viltrimites did a great purge in their society and have very strict rules about breeding. It screams fascist society wjth heavy eugenics emphasis as we see them view viltrimites who die as weak and no true lost. We also see them completely dismiss the thraxan as un worthy. I do not think Anissa was truthful that they care about earth. No interaction we have wjth viltrimites paint them that way. They give off strong colonist vibes at best. Trying to conquer other planets for their resources. Including the population.

BakaSama

Ironic that Anissa shows up in the same episode that Mosco decides to discuss Men’s Mental Health…

Eco Unlogical

About Sinclair, the people Cecil are giving him are dead soldiers. Did they sign anything? Probably knowing Cecil.

MakMcPoorards

Season 2 is great but when it originally aired it had a mid-season break that pissed people off so much that it’s still viewed unfavorably. I think people have largely forgotten about the break but the exaggerated criticism remains.

John Hannon

It drives me up the wall how guys view being careful in threatening situations as some kind of "tactical awareness" but don't get why women would cross the street or avoid being alone with a guy. Women are tactical geniuses, they live their entire lives in a near constant world of potential threats. I've worked in a handful of roles where I've learned to be a talented amateur in violence (but now a pacifist aside from extreme circumstances) and my daughter, wife, and every woman I know is welcome to everything I've learned. My daughter was raised to put her safety over someone else's feelings and there are few things as important to me as giving her that lesson.

Florena Emberlin

I like the bit with Rex here but I can't help but wonder...did they not TELL him his new hand came with a badass cannon?! Maybe he just forgot out of habit but he seems surprised when it activates.

Florena Emberlin

Rex getting shot in the head is definitely a turning point for him. But I think part of him was trying before that. When Bulletproof told him to 'be better' he seemed to indicate he thought he 'was' evne if he wasn't doing a good job of it yet. And he had that great scene where he convinces Eve to go into space to help with the Sequids which is slightly before getting shot in the head. But the gunshot was definitely a big moment in his arc.

John Hannon

He was in the hospital. I get your point, but the "new ways to explode bad guys" discussion was going to come later

Jake DB

of course they don't get paid, you ever sat down and thought about how much it would cost to actually PAY a superhero, especially when you live in a world with so many of them and you have threats that cause millions of dollars worth of damage multiple times a year! Hell I bet that even if they were being given a salary in some capacity, it would no doubt be going straight towards funding the constant rebuilding that has to happen all the time

HeroNotFound

You guys are so cute omg aaaa

Luke.H

I personally have always been a man who very much expresses my feelings verbally especially things that are negative to my mental health. I am trying to teach my straight friends to start doing the same and to not be afraid to get help about their mental health and to express their emotions and frustrations. I try to emphasise bottling up the feelings will only make them more depressed. one is from a very rural place and does have some more antique point of views on some things and still believes in "be a man about it" / "man up" mentality which has only made him severely depressed. I try and get him to open up when he can in hopes it helps. will he ever fully open up I don't know. I like to tell my male friends I love them and they can come to me whenever. especially if they are going through a hard time mentally. Sometimes they see my verbally getting my frustrations as whining or complaining. However personally I find it therapeutic to verbally express my frustrations and helps me process my emotions and get in a better mental space. If I complain 90% of the time its my way of venting my anger without physically doing anything. I also vent to friends and family all the time which helps me mentally so much. I just hope more men/ male presenting folks can do the same and not be afraid to be vulnerable and express your feelings ( they matter ). We are all human beings with a brain, our mental health is important we should all be able to support each other get through our mental health issues and help get each other to a great place mentally. Please fellow male/male presenting folks do not be afraid to seek help. in fact anyone do not be afraid to seek help( you matter! your mental health matters! ). I just hope others see my point of view on this matter.

Tintros

Spike Shirt! :) -"They're so cute" (Mark & Amber as a couple) You know that's how you and Elijah are, yeah? ;) The smiles are a dead giveaway. -Yeeeeah. If i recall correctly there was a eency weency delay and there was some rumbling from the fanbase round this point. Not as bad as some others thought, I mean HAZBIN for example :P OOF. -Having recently become more of a support NPC for my wife, as she's currently the big breadwinner while I'm out of work, I totally get the 'leaving Amber at comicon' vibe, but I also get how that can be a big deal, being able to support somebody you love that makes a big difference out there. I enjoy being able to support her emotionally, be there after work, etc. -Cecil is very bad at that.. and yeah, they NEED some super-therapists. BAD. -OOF, yeah.. trauma galore in this world. -There's a series I'm reading (He Who Fights With Monsters) that has super-hero level adventurers in it, and they deal with people having mental healing abilities, essentially supertherapists, and that being a big deal to handling that sort of thing in the world. -Awwww. :) Thanks for the men-support moment. We do this really badly, especially in the US. :\ It's coming to a head with the 'Male loneliness movement', the man-vs-bear thing, and women finally having the ability and the initiative to just opt out of shitty guys. Something's gotta give, and I hope it's in a good way... -Yeah.. I get the fact that the 'good guys' look just like the bad. Kids (especially with traumatic pasts, with parents/adults) are similar. That's why when I started working with them I picked up an Owl House hat. :) "Us wierdos have to stick together", flagged bright green for them, that I was 'one of the good ones'. -I was very lucky to find my wife when I did. -"Gush, gush" AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAaaaaaa!

Gone

So Mosco, would you say that you're... Convincible?

Eliteguard99

I love how they vastly improved her character in the show. In the comic she’s absolute ass.

Matthew bauer

Blaming either gender fully aint the answer tho and it never has been. Especially during a time where gender doesnt mean jack shit. Humans dont fall into just two boxes they never have we are all so different and unique. Its not any gender or identity's fault for stuff that other people do its those specific peoples fault. I think a lot of the issue stems from people saying all men suck or all women are terrible when in reality its individuals that suck and or are terrible. Even saying "not all" still implies you think a majority of that gender is doing stuff wrong when in reality its just specific examples of people doing horrible stuff. No one is at fault for actions they didnt commit just because you share a commonality with them and people on either side of the aisle need to understand that. And yes just because there are more examples of men that did terrible stuff doesnt mean that women arent at fault for the things they commit. Itd be the same even if it was the other way around (if women did a lot wrong and men little) If you dont do terrible stuff you shouldnt be vilified or made to feel bad no matter who you are and if you do terrible things then its fully justified to be hated for it. Its just comes down to blaming a whole group of people for things they dont commit because they happen to share a commonality with the ones who did that has never sat right with me.

Curtis Harvey

I'm of the mindset that you shouldn't ask out your coworkers while framed by the wreckage of the house their previous spouse supposedly died in, but that's just me.

Trey Goldsworthy

We’ll see how people respond with the infamous scene either next season or the season after.

Trey Goldsworthy

Yeah almost if not every single character in the show thsts interacts won’t him has called him an asshole or told by an authority figure what to do, but with Bulletproof he was someone on his level around his age and is technically below him in experience and such, and he earnestly told that he could be better with no real lecture or telling him hes an asshole, it’s the first time Rex saw himself from an outsider’s perspective from someone he didn’t know, someone who would call him out on his behaviour and berate him but almost no one tells him he can be better not until Bulletproof

BakaSama

I’m imagining it’ll be much like when she first appeared in the show, but much louder.

Curtis Harvey

I mean, a living salary is pocket change for the government.

Neil Prospect

I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR YOU TO GET TO THE ANIMATION JOKE SINCE YOU STARTED THIS SHOW! I'M SO EXCITED!

Craspar's Friendzone

hi john, i can empathize with the feeling that not enough people care about men’s mental health. because they don’t. but that’s what’s important about the message with Donald, Will, and Rick. men need to be there for each other more in terms of mental health support. as men it’s important that we be that change. if you feel that there’s no one who’ll listen to men’s mental issues, then be that person. lend an ear, empathize with your fellow man. and in turn show other men it’s okay to be vulnerable, that it’s safe to lean on each other, that we don’t have to suffer in silence. that we have the power to improve our reality.

Sarah H

About the powers and turning 18 thing, Nolan said even late bloomers on Viltrum would get their powers before their 18th birthday, so it seems to depend on your personal development and/or genes, like how some people reach puberty before their teens and how something like that could run in the family. Pure-blood Viltrumites probably develop powers early on, but even with Mark being almost full-blooded because Viltrumite DNA is that strong, he still got his powers pretty late.

Trey Goldsworthy

Let’s just hope that the majority of the fans won’t endorse it.

iKirbeeburgr

Someone can offer a lot of promising things that sound very convincing, but once their in power who’s to say they will actually grant those benefits at all let alone the way they made it seem just to get you to accept them.

CM

Anissa paints a pretty picture with the Viltrumite invasion, but occupations aren't traditionally all that pleasant for the occupied. And the Viltumites are temperamental assholes who can't be fought with conventional weapons and who have the ability to obliterate a city in seconds should the whim strike them. I don't think it would be anywhere near as rosy as Anissa tries to convince Mark.

Alvin Everett

You can understand Anissa’s argument, but it falls apart when you realize that we’ve seen Viltrumites destroy planets this season bc they rebelled. When people try to suppress others (something as small as a parent not allowing their kid to do something, all the way to things as horrible as tyrants and slavemasters), it’s in human nature for people to resist & rebel. Both Nolan & Anissa beat up Mark for rebelling, (in the alternate universe) Nolan & Mark decimated Earth for rebelling, Viltrumites destroyed Allen’s people for rebelling, and they nearly destroyed Thraxa because Nolan defied the Viltrumite way.

Shay

What Cecil said was a way to tell us, but it is literally just Canon that they are agents that specifically agreed for their corpses to be used by Sinclair; they aren't just using anyone, they all canonically consented

iCommentToPlay

Not related to the show, but my heart is screaming with Mosco's choice of t shirt!! Absolute joy!!

Tristan N Milner

I say that Amber and mark are having mature relationship problems, rather than realistic. As someone that's been to Comic Con, the San Diego one, for many years. No. This is an idealized version of a convention OR a much smaller/local convention. The type that would have writers, artists, colorists, etc in attendance but usually not many current actors and no "big names" like Hollywood celebrities'. he later of which is why SDCC is super overrated and so overcrowded I consider it a health hazard. 16:20 close but it's actual adapting a scene from the comic where they do the same joke but for comic book panels and layouts. As for pestering and impatient fans. [Title Card] had it relatively easy compared to certain anime's. The vastly overrated baby's-first-character-death-porn anime, Attack on Titan, has one of the worst fan bases online. Going so far as to send death threats to the animators. Avoid that show at all costs.

Joey Quixote

Thank you. We are not your responsibility, but thank you all the same. I pray your mods strength in the comments section when this reaction hits YouTube. Growing up in the 80s, the programming was strong. I didn't grow up in a "men need to be manly" household, but the word "sensitive" came up routinely and disparagingly in evaluations of me. Moreso, I got it from my peers. Mostly the guys, but some of the girls as well. That I wasn't as athletic, or took risks, or joined them in bullying, being harassed to the point of tears which only made it worse. They were taught to assert dominance, and insodoing taught people like me to "stop being weak". For me that meant putting up walls so robust that nobody could get in. A behavior I'm still unlearning. Part of that programming is teaching boys that the girl is the side character, or the reward at the end of the story. That yours is the weaker sex that needs us to exist. It's what creates communities of incels (which is a truly vile word, especially considering it was a title they proudly gave themselves). A bunch of angry little boys upset that they weren't rewarded with sex for doing the bare minimum. Perfectly explains our current slate of pasty unfuckable legislators who are actively stripping women of their rights as a means for them to legally require a man in their life. I could have come out the other end something so much worse, but one of the things my parents instilled in me was humility. With it, I learned that I could be wrong, which is a fine thing to be SO LONG as you correct your behavior and way of thinking. In my 20s I put my ego aside and entered a self-imposed "shut up and listen" era. I learned SO damn much, and still am today. And having a friend group that was predominantly progressive, queer, and punk rock helped me to open up again, to embrace love and empathy. Lord knows the community I grew up in wouldn't have allowed it. Part of that has been breaking a lot of programming that was instilled since I was a kid. A lot of programming that I'm still surprised to see how much of an effect it's had on me. Things I'm still breaking and unlearning. The Patriarchy fucks us all up. So I thank you, creators like you, and those who cultivate communities where empathy, caring, love, and growth are nurtured. You're not our therapist, and you've no responsibility to us. That lies in our hands. We can be the change we want to see in the world.

Jay Yusuf

Off Topic but she has a Spike Shirt she's Fully apart of the fandom lol

Tristan N Milner

This might be a little evil, and maybe I have he survival instincts of a wooden spoon, but following the Rules of Acquisition No. 9, Opportunity plus instinct equals profit, I suggest cutting out your girlfriend's reaction to the animation joke from the YouTube version. Give the YouTube audience a strong incentive to join the Patreon and help fund Elves of Amaranth.

Trafalgar D. Law

In season 1, Cecil said the reanimen are the bodies of dead soldiers serving their country one last time. Unknown if he has their families permission to use their dead bodies though

KingCurze

Cecil and the GDA have therapists on the payroll. He even offered their service to Immortal in the last episode.

CalliopeRuiz

Girl I slip into misandry on the daily lmao. I didn't expect majority of your viewers to be men, I thought it would be mainly women. Interesting. I agree, sometimes you smile at a guy or compliment a guy and they think you want to bang, and follow you in parking lots. They say we don't care but we're trying to protect ourselves.

CalliopeRuiz

Yes, I try not to be after psychical and mental abuse I find myself slipping into misandry

bearMathilde

I can't wait for Mark to go into a portal leading to equestria

Speed1247

They are a post money but not post hierarchy system. You live to serve the empire, from the emperor to the lowest viltrimite, none are exempt. They reached end stage fascism where everything is for the state.

REDE

"ANGSTROM!!!! YOOUUURRRREEEE DEEEAAAADDDDD!!!" - Mark or something probably

James S

Fun fact: While they've changed her character at least somewhat, in the comics Anissa is THE most hated/despised character in the story. And if you watch reactions to this episode, there is a very stark and obvious difference between the reactions of people who have read the comics and those who haven't. People who haven't read the comics: She's kind of a baddie tho... People who have read the comics: Oh my god, what? WHAT?! Oh no no no no no no no...

William Wilson

Yeah Cecil also mentioned immortal refusing help cause he didn’t want people poking around in his head so a few here and there

I-Superpanda-I

I agree about the male mental health segment of the episode. As a guy myself, the best thing I ever did in my life was taking my mental health super seriously. I was in a really bad place a couple of years ago and I didn’t like what bottling my emotions up was doing to me. It took a pretty big toll on me and ever since i started to change that I’ve loved the person I’ve started to turn into. Thank you for bringing it up because it really is important.

Giovanni Hernandez

The show just gets better each season. I have no idea who said season two was bad. They’re on something if anything they’re probably comparing it to all the other seasons, which are five star meal to season two which is a 4 1/2 star meal

Crusader688

I think we got to see that with Alan's backstory earlier this season. The Unopians by all accounts were doing well for themselves, they had none of these problems and were quite advanced themselves but the Viltrumites came in anyway and slaughtered them to force their compliance. Alan's people gained nothing from being slaves to the Viltrumites, it was all for the empire's benefit. That alone shows that Anisa's whole spiel is just propaganda to justify their warmongering and mass murder. Some of the species they conquer probably do benefit overall, but that is always incidental and never their true motivation for doing this. Season 4 gives a better view of their real reasoning behind the scenes.

bagel

Thank you for talking about the patriarchy and its toxic effect on EVERYONE. Some people must have really needed to hear it if they have not already.

Pikagirl

Viltrumites get their powers before 18, not at 18. I think they normally get them much younger than Mark did.

Pikagirl

I'm at the Debbie and Mark talk. Commenting in reply to what you said around there. Not gonna lie, I wish I were bi, being straight sucks. I'm always afraid of trying to meet a new guy. I've been hurt in multiple ways. Unless a miracle happens I'm likely just going to stay single for the rest of my life.

Pikagirl

On the rooftop scene when Donald smiled at the end, I think he realized that he just saved a life in a way he couldn't have done before if his memories had been erased again.

Le-Vaughn Hicks

Just an FYI not a spoiler. Viltrumites usually get their powers between 9-13 years old. Nolan told Mark that even the LATEST bloomers on Viltrum would have gotten their powers before what would be their 18th birthday. Mark got his powers late. If you remember The Atom Eve special end credit scene, it showed Mark as "Duct Tape Man" and Nolan said to Debbie, "that boy is never going to get his powers, is he..". And Debbie saying something to the effect that even if he doesn't get his powers, we'll love him anyway. The range of emotions that Nolan went through, one of them being Nolan looking like he was going upstairs to kill Mark. From Nolan's point of view, if Mark had been a Viltrumite he would be at the age where his powers would be kicking in. Not a "weak" human that would need to be eliminated.

Le-Vaughn Hicks

I love the insight you give into why certain shots were animated as they were. And what the symbolism means. Both overtly and subtlety. It's made me rewatch with a different perspective. Thank you.

Le-Vaughn Hicks

The fact that Mark and I guess The Guardians don't get a salary is insane. I understand that heroes don't do it for the money but there are practical matters that need to be taken care of. Like buying food and paying rent. Mark may live at home but those indestructible super suits that Art makes aren't free. And what about all of those comic books. How is he supposed to pay for all of that. When we saw the original Guardians (before Nolan Killed them all) they all had day jobs. Except maybe Darkwing, I think he may have been a billionaire like Bruce Wayne. And the Immortal is thousands of years old; he probably has treasures stashed away.

Jakob Eslinger

"we aren't our bodies, we are the decisions we make, the lives we chnsge. The people we love, or who love us."
