I hope we get confirmation in later volumes but I have a theory that where Summer and Raven went to is possibly Salem's domain and Summer tried to kill her but obviously failed and Raven clearly didn't want to die so she left and probably told Qrow and Tai that she died and that's how Raven knows who Salem is as both she and Summer confronted her.

"I wanna know more about Team STRQ." GIRL SO DO WE!! Summer shoulder checked Raven just like Yang did at the end of V5. Like mother like daughter. And what a way to bring Raven back into relevance. Like, when she said “there is no beating Salem” something tells me she actually knew what she was talking about. Raven, what do you know!?!? Give us answers you horribly cryptic woman!! The first time I heard the tune from Red Like Roses start as Ruby was coming back I got full body chills. Now I just get teary eyed. The animation when she comes back, the lighting, the callback to her trailer with her cape in the wind! How dare! And seeing Team RWBY whole and fighting together again?! The emotional catharsis! I cried during the meeting with Somewhat. They were truly special and I’m sad to see them go. “One small kindness, in one small moment, led to such a marvelous transformation.” Excuse me while I cry about that too, probably my favorite line in the show. This volume was everything I wanted. It was so good and CRWBY really knocked it out of the park. I just love this show so much. Oh, sure, I’ve got my complaints. But honestly, this show is my favorite piece of media. There’s so much passion put into it. I love how each volume it feels like CRWBY truly try to push themselves to do better. It actually feels like they love and care about this show so much. It just makes me excited for what’s in this show’s future now that we know V10 is coming. Can’t wait to see your reactions to the soundtracks, Chibi, Ice Queendom, the JL movies, and whatever else we can dig up. Like you said, there was an Epilogue for V9 that they were originally going to include but either didn’t have the budget, the time, or just decided to hold off. There’s also the Fairytale episodes and Beyond shorts. For reading material we have the DC comics, a couple manga, some anthologies with a bunch of fan comics, the After the Fall and Before the Dawn books. Trust, there’s still plenty of RWBY content to be had and that’s before you get into any fan stuff. But for now, as far as the main series goes, it’s the wait for V10. And thank you for reacting to this show, Mosco. Again, this show means the world to me, so seeing someone fall in love with RWBY is always such a treat. Here’s to eventually making it through this hiatus!

Two little things that we already know: The cat is dead, because it was destroyed by the Jabberwalker. And all the ships and the retrofitted Amity are hints that at least a few months went by in Remnant.

At first I thought that was a Jinn shirt. Are there Jinn shirts? Or body pillows. I'm sure Elijah would love a Jinn body pillow! At last ... Summer lore! And it asks more questions than it answers. Who did Raven portal them to? It wasn't Tai, it wasn't Qrow or Ozpin - unless he lied to Ruby in Atlas about what he knew. So it had to be someone else ... and my money is on the Spring maiden. Ozpin said he used all the questions before he sealed the Relic of Knowledge away. But when they found it, she could still answer two questions. We don't know the exact mechanics of the "thrice every 100 years". What did they ask the lamp? But then... wouldn't Raven have known how to open the vault? May we get our answers in the next arc... Neo will be back. I am sure of it. But how will she get back to Remnant? Well, the only way she could is if she had someone to go back to. Unless... she meets someone else from Remnant in the Ever After who does have someone to go back to? If Neo could connect to this person, she could follow her back ... and then Yang becomes the middle child. In my head canon, Summer is trapped and/or hiding in the Ever After, and Neo will help her escape and/or convince her to go back. And if the portal stays open long enough, they can use it to take Salem to the Ever After to ascend, which seems to be the consensus of how they will stop her. ... I've worked on (counts on fingers) ten feature animations in my career - only half of which have made it to theaters (or will make it to theaters later this year... hopefully) and I can definitely say that Miles is 100% right. There's always something you could tweak, something you could change. And every day it's a little harder to see it with brand new eyes. At least your an indie production and don't have to answer to studio executives. One of the first films I worked on, we got a note from the studio at the 11th hour after a test screening and after the director pushed back, the studio effectively said, "change it or the project is canceled". And that was the cherry on top of all the notes literally filing the sharp edges off the character designs to make a kids movie about death aggressively G rated. And then the studio declined to pick up the other two films in the trilogy. You do the best you can with what you have to try and tell the story you want to tell.

I was watching the f’ing clock waiting for this to drop! I changed my schedule today to make sure I got to watch this. 1) The cat is not being ascended. It was killed by the Jabberwalker so it’s just gone. 2) I agree that Ruby’s eyes are part of what will happen with Salem. It that’s still going to leave her immortal and miserable. The final solution is going to be sending her back here, to the Everafter. Because *nothing* dies here. She can ascend. 3) I feel that the Blacksmith isn’t the Tree exactly. I think they’re whatever is left of Alex, fulfilling her promise to fix what she broke. 4) I hope you soon do the RWBY/ Justice League crossover. Elijah said she was waiting to do it with you. And there is at least one moment I can’t wait to see both your reactions to!

My theory is the "fix what she had broken", is her leaveing her blade with the Blacksmith to give to Jaune for whenever he Ascends when she had Ascended herself. My no evidence theory for why Raven left initially is coercion. Whoever ran the tribe at tbe time gave her an ultimatum, ejther rejoin the tribe or they'll take their newest member whk was just born (Yang). Possibly als Qrow and raven. In order to keep Yang safe from the tribe she rejoined and saw that as a sarifice worth making becuase she isnt mom material anyways. Qrow and Raven were supported at the tribe for years and then sent to Beacon for the tribe. It will be shocking if they were allowed to leave easily. She probably wasnt as jded about Oz and his war until after whatever happened with Summer

I've shipped STR-Crossed Lovers (Summer, Tai & Raven as a triad) for a long time, so this chapter definitely fueled that flame. I'm also fascinated by the fact that when Summer disappeared, Tai, Qrow, and even Ozpin were in the dark about where she went, but Raven knew...like either nobody ever asked her or she was deliberately keeping the information secret. If it was the latter, was that her being a little shit, or did Summer insist on secrecy, even if the mission went bad?

Real question is who did they portal to? Raven can only make portals to people she has a bond to. My theory is Lionheart, and whatever happened to Summer caused Lionheart to turn traitor and Raven to start drinking.

Welp, here we go. "He really liked her-" LOVED. They were married and had a child together you know. We were told in V7 that Ozpin wasn't aware of what Summer was doing. He's as clueless as everyone else. Raven left to go back to her tribe when Yang was little, and Tai lost his first love. Then down the line he and Summer got together. No, Neo isn't fighting with the rest of them because 1: they wouldn't trust her and 2: she's just selfish and petty like that. Much like Cinder who you two love to say is horrible and irredeemable. Stop bringing up the damn book, all it does in the end is showing that Neo is chaotic and uses her freedom to join up with a known criminal to not only enable him him, and do crime herself, but it's what leads to what she does in V2/3 and onwards! Yes, shitty parents, but Cinder had it so much worse ffs. What happened to Neo doesn't justify her actions nor does it absolve her of her crimes. You're not gonna convince me you'd be this adamant about Neo's redemption if she had been a male character. I hate that you and Elijah seem to think that, just because Ruby came back it's all well and done, but completely forget that Ruby only ended up with the Tree because of Neo ABUSING HER physically and mentally to the point of su*cide! Who cares if she didn't feel better afterwards, she GOT WHAT SHE WANTED! It doesn't take away from the horrible action and her crimes! "That desire has completely bled out of her" But she still went through with it! She still happily did what she wanted and even after there was no remorse/regret, only a realization that she hadn't planned ahead. She still went through with it wholeheartedly! No, they're not setting Neo up for a redemption. In the v9 commentary, Kerry, Kiersi, Eddy, and more talk about that, for that would be a cheap cop-out of a "redemption." So she becomes someone new, doesn't remember a thing, and we're supposed to welcome her? Fuck that. From the commentary: Kerry: “We talked so much about how we wanted to end things with Neo because there’s just this really weird line of ‘everybody loves her as a character.’ Like she’s got a cool design. There’s things about her that are really cool. She is also ‘a bad person that has done bad things.’ ” Kiersi: “Not redeemable at all.” Kerry and Eddy: “No” (but speaking affirmatively to Kiersi) So that's a mild comfort at least. And again, you keep bringing up everything bad Cinder has done, "just saying" but my oh my how you ignore everything Neo has done. If Neo hadn't stolen the Lamp, V9 wouldn't have happened; no lamp, no question, no reveal of Ruby and co's plan. But sure, blame Cinder for Neo's revenge against Ruby to the point that she happily worked with Cinder again and handed her the lamp, so she could selfishly abuse a minor. I hope Cinder gets forgiven and redeemed just to see the hypocrisy from Neo apologists. And again, skipping the beautiful ending music for the non-existing post-ending scene.

If Neo is a parallel to Alyx, then her going to the Tree should result in her “fixing everything she broke in the Ever After.” Neo’s ending here is ambiguous but feels like it should essentially be a send-off (and is frankly far too soft a landing for her compared to other villains due to her popularity, but I digress). They’ve established she has nothing tying her to Remnant, and her hatred for Cinder isn’t a tie (it’s just the same single-minded vengeance that she had toward Ruby and would be a redux). This feels more like an ending where she stayed in the EA. Further, Ruby chose herself — she didnt trade herself and her memories in for a new persona. Neo choosing a new purpose/reset and leaving her memories and regrets behind — as well as the consequences of her actions — is cheap. It’s not redemption but erasure. I think it’s best she stays in the Ever After, unless the show needs a MacGuffin towards the end of the show to finally kill Cinder (bur frankly, the list of people who have beef and narrative grounds to kill Cinder is already a mile long, so dont really need Neo there either).

Thing to remember: ruby wasnt magically healed, she just decided to keeptrying, she still need help... A lot... But also, as the story of the 2 brothers goes, ruby improved herself somehow magically, meaning she might have extra powers or improved powers somehow, better aura, better semblance or better silver eyes or something... Maybe she can now hurt salem or cure her from grimm venom

Aw I'm sad Mosco didn't pick up on the Somewhat design. They look just like Ruby with the scarf, the cape and the belt. And they became a friend, a guide, a protector... They became bigger and stronger to be able to fulfill those roles. And they retained the concept of ''Huntress'' and what it means, to help, guide and protect others. That's what the Tree/Blacksmith said to the five at the end; that their impact on the Ever After was positive. This volume gets a lot of hate and I don't know why. It's such a well written volume, with valuable lessons. It's also a great therapy session for them. One can only endure so much loss. They needed this therapy session lol. It brought back hope and also a new perspective on life, creation and possibly the solution to defeat Salem.

My take on neo is she is so not tied to Remant that her new purpose is elsewhere. I can see her becoming a hero of another story. Either staying in the ever after or exploring worlds beyond remant

I hope that Neo does not come back (outside of maybe a small background cameo) Her story is finished, she now needs to find her new purpose, letting go of revenge and keep moving forward. We have some more information on Summer's last mission: In V7 Qrow said that it was not an Ozpin secret, but a Summer secret. So I think only Summer and Raven knew and we do not know what Raven experienced, but it does seem to have changed her a bit.

This is not directed at you, just fandom in general. The reaction so WhiteKnight is always fascinating to me, given how much Bumbleby fans have to carry CVS-length receipts and essays with citations about the pile of evidence and buildup for the BB ship. Until V9, Jaune and Weiss have not meaningfully interacted since V5 (and that was just to be a catalyst to Jaune’s semblance). And they each had past loves or flirtations. And yet there are no “forced” or “out of nowhere” or “bait” accusations because the bar is so low to believe and buy in to a het ship. It really just takes a wink or one comment for an audience to believe “this is happening”. Wild.

I'm happy Jaune was able to be back to how he was (though the white hair streak of stress must stay and I get it) with him being stuck there for years with a forced role to play along with suicidal paper people after he had to assist with a friends s****de, he has been through a lot and too much and I hope he does get together with Weiss because I personally do ship them a lot and I think he deserves to be happy. Same goes for Ruby and the burdens she had to carry. I'm happy she had this development, I'm happy CRWBY went this route for her to find herself. The way they went about is was 100% realistic and happy they didn't sugarcoat some areas. With little gone she had no hope left, and now with somewhat appearing she is now somewhat hopeful for the future. I may get heat for this but...........I can forgive Salem easier than I can Neo because what she did was crossing over waaayyy too many red lines to get what she wanted and forced Ruby to off herself. I know Neo went through a lot when she was younger as well but for what she did in my eyes can't be forgiven (partly why I like her as a villain because she made sure to uphold her eye for an eye deal). I do see her coming back as something better and maybe not now but maybe in the future accept her even after everything but right now........I think it's for the best Ruby didn't go to Neo after she took care of the cat. Also at the end I think the pink thing she was working was Neo before our heroes left. And though at the time RWBY future was TBD, it was very fitting the last words being from RWBY looking at us and saying "Thank you." It looks like now, you are mostly now joining us in the waiting game for Volume 10 that is green lit wooo!, my guess that we may get it late 2027 or Spring-ish 2028. I hope we do get 3 more volumes (and maybe a STRQ prequel). And who knows maybe more down the road. I recommend when you get back with RWBY, I think you should do Ice-Queendom first for certain reasons........ >:3 I would also love if in the future you can do a RWBY-ish recap of your thoughts, theories and highlights of the entire show with favorite characters, arcs, episodes etc. I never thought a show like RWBY could beat the Owl House for my love and depending how it lands it just might because one thing for sure it is definitely my current hyperfixation. I can't wait for what adventures comes next for our heroes, until next time, keep moving forward, :)

11:18 Back when team RWBY and RNJR got their hunstman licenses, Ruby sat by herself and then Qrow joined her. There's a chance that what he says isn't accurate, but the scene felt like it was telling us that it wasn't a mission Oz sent her on. Here's the relevant part: Ruby: Her… last mission. Was that another Oz secret? Qrow: Hm. There were a lot of those back in our day. But this one was a Summer secret. When she didn't come back, Ozpin seemed just as in the dark as myself and your father. Still, who knows what he may have hidden from us over the years.

Congratulations, you have caught up with us in regards to the main show. And yeah, Volume 9 had its flaws, but I greatly enjoyed it. Thankfully, the wait for Volume 10 isn't much longer, now that it's been green-light. So we'll get to see our gang sooner than we'll realize. The truth is Raven left just after Yang was born so there’s no way to know if Raven would be better at that because she never tried.

I’m really happy you enjoyed this series. A lot of people give RWBY crap for many things. Like yes there are some things I’m not happy with but I still hold it deep in my heart. One of the things people give this series heat for is the fact that it’s classified as an anime and anime fans are not to open to it. But I honestly love how this western show became so popular to the point where it became a recognizable anime in the east. Makes me happy and I know Monty is happy knowing how far his series has come. Excited to see your Ice Queendom series watch.

I like the theory that the big pink crystal on the Blacksmith's workbench is Neo, waiting to be carved into something new. I don't expect her to go back to Remnant, as she doesn't have a reason to. Her crimes in the Ever After are trivial since death is not permanent, while in Remnant she has a lot to answer for.

I know they keep mentioning the animatics and all of that, but what i am most excited for is RWBY; Justice League and the fan made animation of team SLVR. It has that classic volumes 1-3 rwby animation style and the character designs were amazing.

One important thing I noticed here was Yang saying, "Ruby, what's wrong?" instead of "Are you ok?" Shows more specific compassion and is more likely to elicit an honest answer.

We know that Salem know who Summer is. Probably she killed her (or turned her into Grimm) and Raven saw that, that's when she isolate herself. When Yang hit her with shoulder (when Yang wanted a relic in Haven) Raven is crying, bc that's what Summer did before she died. We also know Raven have portal for Tai, Yang and Qrow so this portal was to Qrow, that's why Qrow is so protective of Ruby, bc he was there and he is feeling responsible for what happened. Also Cat isn't in the tree, if u are killed by that creature (Jabberwalker) u are dead.

My personal guess is that Neo will come out wielding those twin blades that the camera stuck on for a while as Ruby was making her choice.

To beat Salem: 1- Silver eyes to remove the Grimm-ness 2- You need Salem to understand life and death. This will remove the Brothers' curse.

As for Ruby's improving...Ruby received/gave herself a second wind, a break or renewal if you will. As we learned in Volume 5, Ruby's semblance will grow and change on its own. So who knows what 'powers' she will gain?

I don't think that even Oz knows about the Ever After (at least beyond what's in the story) and the origin of the Brothers. And...I think the Tree is going to be important in the ending because I think the *Brothers* will return for the ending.

Qrow said at the license party that he doesn't know what happened to Summer; Raven didn't portal to him. The only portal that makes sense is either the Summer Maiden (at the time) or Vernal (having a portal to Vernal would be fastest way to get back to the tribe.)

For your 2- I said hurt her, not kill her, like say a wound that even if she resets herself the wound remains, but also i said cure her from the grimm stuff which is already corrupting her more in the 1st place, making her wanted to destroy humans, without the grimm venom on her it would be easier to speak to her and talk her out to understand To ruby's renewal, all who ascend get that regardless, i have read people saying that restoring her energy is what the tree gave her but thats no sense since it already does that for everyone, so just as the brothers who improve something even if they choose their own form, she get something extra, yes, a semblance can eveolve just like her already did to atomize herself and others or like neo's did to be tangible and stronger overall when reached the world of imagination. So im pretty sure they didnt just ascended ruby specifically just for the drama, they wanted to make her "improve" something, gave her an extra boost that will give them the advantage they need against salem, even if is just a boost to a power she already has, like imagine if she can petal burst a whole city transporting all grimms out and drop them from 1km high and become a single-person army, or that she can use her silver eyes powers with her weapon so a single hit or bullet of her crescend rose can take down a goliath, leveling her up to maiden levels of power

As with RWBY, “made with love” always trumps perfect (whatever that means). Love and perseverance is built into the DNA of the show and always shines through. It’s a passion project through and through, and I’ll take that over bigger budget and star studded any day because I know it’s worth my time and that they are sharing something with the world that they put their hearts into. Buffy is one of the greatest shows ever made IMO and I can write treatises of its flaws and shortcomings. RWBY is long form serialized storytelling of a bygone era. Like Buffy, time smooths some of the lumpiness or gives delayed payoffs added gratification. I think we are blessed to get RWBY, and it’s a miracle this show exists.

That Raven and Summer scene finally sheds the light on why that shoulder-check from Yang broke Raven for good back then. Her daughter was headed down the same route Summer was going and Raven firmly believes there was nothing she could do to stop it all from happening again. Hey, perhaps that "I'm sorry" Raven whispered wasn't even entirely addressed to Yang. She could even be telling it to Summer, apologising for not being able to keep her, well their, children from meeting the same fate. But that's just a theory.

Man, I still remember seeing Elijah's tweet about considering/planning to watch RWBY. I was so hyped, and THEN she managed to influence you and Morgan to watch it as well, and I am SO fucking happy about it! I really like the detail that the purple brother refused to condemn their creation (the jabberwalker). It would be very easy to map the brothers to good and evil, but they’re not. They’re creation and destruction, and neither is objectively good or evil. In all honesty, the brothers are probably the most guilty party in RWBY. Their careless decisions are the root of most problems in Remnant and even a few in the Everafter (e.g. the cat left with no way to ascend on its own)

The series opened with Red Like Roses (pt 1) and it effectively ended with Guide My Way (Red Like Roses Pt 3). Somewhat's design has a cape and shawl, fingerless gloves and a 'hair' frill copied from Ruby. Also, we 'saw' the Blacksmith forging a large-ish mouse-shaped skull. The second part of the RWBY x JLA crossover movie technically takes place after this, though even more then usual with movies from a show, it's questionable how canon it will be considered/integrated. You may want to copy Elijah's pattern for RWBY Chibi of 4-6 parts per upload as they are pretty short per part (not that it stop your girl from turning into a 13-year-old at multiple parts and adding 15 minutes to her vod-time. :p )

RWBY really is a special show. It's nowhere near perfect and has it's fair share of flaws but damn does it have a lot of heart. It's a story that persevered despite losing it's creator and suffering constant harassment online, all the while telling a message of hope. I think this where a lot of the hate originated and it only grew as things continued to change following Monty's death. Sometimes, I love the imperfect shows the most. They feel the most human, and especially in the case of RWBY, you can feel every thought and every ounce of love that was put into it regardless of how well it's executed. Open question if Caroline Cordovin will recognize Winter's authority as Ironwood's successor. Cordovin should face a court martial for her actions in Volume 6, but it may get swept under the rug because they managed to pull off a victory and did aid Team RWBY & Co. belatedly.

A couple of fun details from the flashback: While Ruby takes strongly after Summer in terms of looks, it's clear that her behavior imprinted far more on Yang. The way she sasses and shoulder checks Raven is basically identical, but also the way she cups Tai's face is the same as how we've seen Yang touch Blake. (which is another little thing, their signiture "cup cheek-> touch foreheads" is a blend of how their respective families express love). Which makes a lot of sense given the extra 2 years of time Yang had with her, it's not clear if Ruby remembers much of Summer at all, but Yang actually knew her. Another thing that's worth thinking about, Summer placed her rose emblem on top of her "Girl who fell through the world" book. And while Ruby picked up the emblem and tried to turn herself into a little red reflection of who she imagined Summer to be, Yang would pick up the book, read her sister bedtime stories and try to fill the hole Summer's disappearance left in their lives. So that's fun! Kinda. In a heartbreaking sort of way.

You're doing a good thing with that and I'm grateful for that. :) As for Neo: I think it's unlikely that she'll return, since her actions in the Ever After are too irredemable, which is why we probably won't see her again. Honestly, this would be a good descision, because how can you redeem someone, who tortured a minor into the point of ending themself? But that's just my opinion and I like the fact that some characters aren't redeemable because of how this also is applying to the real world. She may not be redeemable in case of being a good person, because again, I think it's too late for that, but she can always better herself. But this would take time and the fact, that one actually feels remorse for their wrongdoings, which Neo doesn't. Neo didn't feel bad for what she did to Ruby and I think they did her send off in the best way possible. She won't get redeemed because she can't, but like Ruby said "she'll find her way" and it's probably by being in the Ever After. How long? Who know's? But this ambiguity of an outcome would be the best for everyone. I can't wait to see you and Elijah reacting to the RWBY x Justice League movie(s). But again: Based on all the reactions, the talks and the merch you guys got, it makes me happy to see how much you enjoyed the show (also a fresh wind to all the negativity RWBY (mostly unddeservingly imo) gets. ROSEBIRD! and you are far from alone for wanting a STRQ spinoff; there is so much backstory and history with those four that desperately needs to be explored, though I suspect we will be getting some of that in v10 or later volumes. also I firmly believe this was something Ozpin knew nothing about. the framing of it all heavily implies that whatever Summer and Raven did, only they knew. and yes, the fact that RAVEN KNOWS SOMETHING... you can bet that is coming up again in the very near future. sooooo yeah. it's not immediately obvious, but Ruby's problem up to this point has been this: she was LARPing an idealized form of Summer Rose, her "super mom" that was a great hero or so everybody told her. and that was slowly killing her, because she now knows that her mom not only "failed" but kept secrets and lied... in other words, Summer was not the paragon of a Huntress that Ruby had made her out to be. so why should Ruby keep forcing herself to be That Huntress? she can't! it was killing her! that's why she had to choose herself - acceptance that she was good enough as she was, not aspiring to be Completely And Utterly Perfect In All Things. oh and another thing: Ruby cannot be Fearless Leader all the time like before. that NEEDS to change. we already saw Blake stepping up to lead at times in this volume - and we love to see it! - but moving forward, it needs to be a true team effort, not just WBY falling back on Ruby to lead the way. because surely, Summer faced the same burden...

I know what the Blacksmith reveals is a LOT to take in and requires several rewatches to get it all, but yes, it is undeniably going to be pivotal in how the story moves forward and gets resolved. just as the Fall of Beacon changed everything in the story, so too will this conversation with the Blacksmith. the Brothers being revealed as not the all powerful gods as they clearly wanted to be seen? REALLY BIG DEAL. thus the final showdown is not with Salem... it is with the Brothers who broke the world and turned it into Remnant. as for the stuff about balance: that is calling out both Salem AND Ozma - force and calculation cannot restore balance. neither can subservience to a so-called god that demands humanity stop fighting and submit to divine will. this is something that Team RWBY needs to grasp real soon. but the focus on love and patience should be a crucial starting point. as for the final shot of Vacuo, take a closer look at the airships. and if you need to, revisit the earlier volumes to observe the airships in the different kingdoms. because you'll realize that there are airships from ALL the kingdoms... in other words, they got her message ;)

I finally had time, welcome to the Volume finale!! Also I saw you posted the start of V9 to Youtube, I hope it goes well, def sharing it around! I disagree with Alyx being a terrible person, strenuously., she was a scared child in an alien world and a creepy adult who knew way too much about her trying to guide her every step without explaining things, that'd freak anyone out. The Blacksmith even notes she was negatively impacted by the expectations of others, IE Jaune. Oh gosh I forgot we opened on the flashback, love Summer's tone and the subtle expressions! Love how we see Summer also masking in front of Tai (& compared to Raven) much like Ruby kept downplaying her own issues with her team. Also the implication Ozpin kept jumping at shadows with no Salem behind them is super interesting. That was quite a drop~ >:3c Love how chipper Raven is here, implies whatever happened on the mission broke her. Also the shoulder check, Yang got that from Summer!!! Ruby: Did you sleep with my mom Raven!? XD A Team STRQ flashback series would be like "Traditional heroes doomed to fail" to me lmao. I love your observations on Raven, few people sympathize with her motives. Red like Roses is interesting to think on given in the lyrics Summer makes clear she values her duties as more important than her kids while Ruby resents her for not choosing her family. Low key the leaves plan was legit genius, also reminds me again that it kinda makes sense the Cat is so deeply, deeply fucked up and isolated from other Afterans. Love the design though its also fun how some noted becoming a big monster is one of the worst strategies against Hunters, that's what they trained to kill XD Also I adore the Blacksmith, excellent trauma counsellor and so TOL! One thing I think is that Ruby's time in the tree works best when viewed all in one go, as she notes earlier that all of them feel equally heavy so none of them would be 'better' than her just different, but its easy to forget between watches. The pure Aura farming of her return, glorious! Nice idea with the mothers promise! The massive multi combo was cool as fuck and also intriguing with that glow effect! Neo also wants to kill she delights in it way too much. I did like the touch with Neo performing a proper bow compared to her usual mocking bows, actually dipping her head. CRWBY's body language is on point! The Parasol leaves is also great. Somewhat's design is so good, welcome back Redwall XD Also love Ruby's body language and word choices with Somewhat she is much more deft and diplomatic now than people give credit for. The heart remembers!!!! :'D Nice attention to detail with Jaune wiping a tear away too. I also tear up around Somewhat. Love the major lore reveal with the Brothers origin and the borderline naturlaistic lovecraftian-ness of the Tree, its a god but not exactly conscious so much as reflective of the consciousness around it. Also the storybook images are gorgeous! Also the interflowing nature of creation and destruction intrigues me a lot thematically as does the Darkness brother being the one who refused to condemn their creators for their mistakes. Same for the thematic ideals on balance. Love how the trees response was basically "You're making a mess, GTFO" XD Also good ear there, also aaaah the Little/Somewhat flashbacks! Really do not see the alleged set up, ugh. The Ever After played with time travel already, and RWBY is one of the few shows to do so that I actually liked. That final "Thank you" felt like it was directed tot he fans, also gosh the music, divine! Honestly I think V9 mainly suffered cause of a lack of budget, RWBY's always biggest hurdle is it is incredibly ambitious and frankly I respect ambition more than playing it safe. Sorry it doesn't do as well on YT, but also I also adore the show, def my fave!

Flawless is not perfection. There are plenty of flawless works, but no perfect ones. RWBY is one of the closest to that unattainable perfection of anything i've seen. Like how Marvel set up everything initially around the Inifinity Stones being this ultimate power in the universe... TBF I get why it gets hate. I don't dislike it at all, it is not what we've seen from RWBY for 8 volumes. It's beautiful, it's wonderful and I love it, but it is, in many ways, the opposite of volume 3, which is arguably the best. Relatively little straight up fighting, Ruby is a mess, nothing is really loreable because it's all new and sort of random and will likely be left behind. Plus, we had just watched Atlas fall to the ground, we had seen the biggest blow up of the series, and the next volume, while having gravity, feels kinda like fluff. We get some amazing things here, seeing Ruby finally deal with her pain, Bumblebee finally stinging, a bit of backstory on Summer, Jaune's mental break and of course Little, but nothing like previous volumes. I've watched it through 3 full times solo and a handful with reactors and I love it a little more every time but I wasn't a huge fan initially.

I get that but this was a rare opportunity. Often when a character builds their whole identity around vengeance, after they get it, they realize there's nothing else and they're stuck with their grief. Here she found that, then Ruby was able to return, so she had her revenge, realized there was nothing to it, and got to face her target after coming through the other side. I think the tough part was making her have a believable change of heart in a small enough time to be narratively useful. This kinda puts her in a pocket for later where not only can they bring her back at will, but they can have a great reason why she'll be redeemed. She'll have gone through the tree and grown into a version of herself that isn't so filled with hate.
