Your comment about how Celestia must feel isolated and lonely in her position as princess, that is at the core of at least half of her portrayals in the fandom for much of the show. You have to remember, she's not just royalty, but also basically the thousand-plus-year-old immortal sun goddess of their entire species. There was/is so much fertile ground for speculation and expansion on her character, especially early on when we had so little detail about her. She really is one of the more interesting side characters in the show, right alongside her sister Luna, and I've read so many great stories that have tried to fill in the blanks and explore them in more depth.

In the mid-1960s, comedian Milton Burle did a version on his show where he raced back and forth between the sets of the then-current shows of Batman and The Green Hornet. The bit even showed up in an episode of Sailor Moon.

One of the greatest Rarity focused episodes by far. I love how Fancy Pants subverts the usual snobby rich guy trope and is actually very respectful and kind to standard ponies. I love when upper class characters are written with actial humanity.

Good Guy Fancy Pants, the one Canterlot high muckity muck who isn't useless, and actually just a pretty great guy. Fanon has him as a high ranking minister or some such in the Equestrian government, and it's mostly agreed that he knew who at least Twilight was, if not the other Mane 6 on sight, and was trolling the rest of the self-important idiots who were dismissing Princess Celestia's personal protege as being beneath them.

Fun fact, wealthy folks used to tug their horses' heads back by the reins because they thought the snout in the air looked "proper", despite it being uncomfortable for the horses. The Canterlot ponies constantly walking with their heads up might be a reference to that.

The white pony with the pink mane who's always posing is named "Fleur De Lis" (or Fleur Dis Lee, depending on the source), and she's named as a 'supermodel' on the wiki! The fans headcanon her to be Fancy Pants' bodyguard, but in canon she's probably in some sort of relationship with him lol. Fancy Pants has a similarly vague job title, only being listed as "Canterlots most important pony", mainly by Rarity. People headcanon that he recognized Twilight the moment he saw her, either from her time living there before she moved to ponyville, or from her heroic deeds/ties to the princess. Alas, we shall never know the truth depths of Fancy pants.

According to a Rarity analysis video from a fan I watched sometime ago, what happened in this episode, along with the Prince Blueblood deal in the S1 finale, is what led Rarity to totally abandon her dreams of being a fairy tale aristocrat and focus on her career, reaching success with her own hooves. The superficiality of Equestria aristocracy simply annoyed her beyond all limits. And lets face it, Rarity is way more aristocratic and elegant than all those upper crusts!

This has been one of my favorite episodes ever since I was a kid and it helped make Rarity my favorite of the mane 6! I also love Fancy Pants, he's one of the best Canterlot unicorns that isn't a piece of work and I do ship him hard with Rarity, he does appear every now and again but I wish he did more often (with Rarity hehe) About the male ponies... Yeah, Fancy is the first one we actually get ANY characterization from, but that's only because you haven't seen more of the GOAT yet (Big Macintosh)

The fancy hats at the Wonderbolts Derby are a nod to a tradition at the Kentucky Derby in Louisville. I lived there for 20 years but never had the opportunity to attend, but my workplace held a Derby hat contest each year for the employees. Rarity's is only mildly outlandish by Louisville standards.
