Justin Riley

Good episode but poor Spike. He so rarely gets positive portrayals in his own episodes early on.

Jared Bichler

I think I speak for everyone when I say, you stay cute and little, Spike, that's how we like you.

Jared Bichler

Trust me, that kiss was worth the gem.

Justin Riley

For better or worse, this is the best spike episode of the series for a while...

.

4:14 yess I love there dynamic as a platonic paring

Jared Bichler

"He's a dragon!" You better not expect to get paid for that.

Charlie Odinoco

Spike is the best supporting character, meaning he's terrible in the spotlight.

RaisedEyebrow

So far, FiM has shown us two designs for Adult Spike. Greed-Growth form is one. But we also see another, softer firm in Twilight's flashback of Cutie Mark Chronicles. Unfortunately, since both of these appear to be unnaturally induced, it's hard to say which form is actually canon. At least, not without going into spoilers...

Plaxoi123

23:15 you could say Spike was acting like a... bad dragon

Taigan

@18:50 Spike goes through dragon puberty and gets “grabby?” 😏

Indie Doodles

Yknow what funny you mention on if the name derpy is okay to be used. There's an episode later on there they had a censored out the name to derpy to ditzy (i believe that was the name it was used when rainbow dash was talking too her.) Which you'll see it later on, i think its either this season or the next one

Momo

The mane six have never dated anypony in their past as far as I know from the show and comics.

Julie

PLEASE watch Bluey at some point!

KylarStern1995

This to me is the final proof that spike and the gang need to actually go talk to a dragon. No one in this town had any clue what to do about a growing dragon. Also I don't think this was a true representation of him growing up properly maybe more of a magically charged hormone imbalance a puberty sign in a magical species but not proper maturity. The dragon in the dragonshy episode last season both had wings and could talk perfectly normally. Spike had no wings and seemingly lost brain power as he grew. Being taken to a vet must also have been insulting and possibly racist as dragons are clearly not animals.

Saga

Dragons seem to grow up differently depending on the reason for their maturity. This time, Spike grew up by leaning into his draconic greed, and so his model is fairly similar to other adult dragons that we’ve already seen, who also acted fairly beast-like. In comparison, when he was magically aged by Twilight (during her entrance exam) his design was simplistic and, well, childish. I don’t know if we’ll learn more about draconic aging, but so far that’s the way I understand it. :)

Jared Bichler

26:43 The Cakes are probably going to take that out of Pinkie's rent.

Jared Bichler

The Wonderbolts are basically Equestria's air force.

A.B.

26:06 Tbf they are voiced by the same person so that's probably why.

BakaSama

From what I remember the Derpy thing went something like this, the fandom named her Derpy when she was just a background Pony without a name, and then the show runners decided to give her names like Muffin out of concern that “Derpy” felt mean spirited/offensive and the fandom rejected the alternative names saying “Derpy” was a name of endearment and kept referring to her as Derpy. The fandom also assigned her the role of Dr. Whooves’ (aka Timeturner) Companion.

Serial Designation N!

I feel like it'd be easy for kids to misinterpret the beginning of the episode. It's super nice to give someone something you know they like, even if you like it too, but there is NOTHING WRONG with getting something for yourself and keeping it all to yourself.

Iago24

And so the showrunners managed to insert a huge King Kong reference in a My Little Pony show. The Wonderbolts played a part pretty much only to duplicate the famous scene of Kong being harassed by fighter planes on top of the Empire State Building. This way of growing seems to be portrayed as a species-specific disase or disorder rather than normal ageing for dragons. All the actual adult dragons seem to have wings, but Spike lacks them even in his biggest form. But he can't stay a cute little baby forever, Spike's gotta become an awkward teen sooner or later...

Always such a joy to look forward to Thursdays! Thursdays are MLP days!! Enjoy so much laughing with you for h to is episode!

Willow 404

At least he didn't steal any moldy swiss cheese

Bitter Magic

Once again Rarity is unafraid of a giant monster. Wonderful foreshadowing for the episode where she punches out a robot kaiju piloted by evil Twilight.

Rixec2

Rainbow's just so used to being tied up by Applejack each night she rarely ever gets to see Applejack tied up. Seeing Applejack tied up by herself made the brat in Rainbow laugh so much. XD

Bitter Magic

Rarity can take it without flinching.

Seraphem

Mostly, they did use 'Derpy' early on, but a bunch of soccer mom's bitched at them, so they tried to pivot from even using her and tried to push Vinyl Scratch as the big fan-loved Pony, and while no one hated DJ-PON-3, they didn't let Derpy fade, and eventually Hasbro brought her back, but just used the image of a muffin instead of her name. Dodging both fan ire for 'renaming' her, and soccer mom's BS.

Seraphem

I do love Rarity quietly stopping Spike from confessing. She knows how he feels, but if he outright said it, it would make things awkward, especially for him, and she'd have to let him down if it moved that far. Just, classy move.

Mirdo

Next up, peak lore.

WillVanessa

1: Poor Spike 2:Unrelated question could you react to Regular Show on Cartoon Network?

MajorMagna

Actually the name "Derpy" DID appear and someone clutched their pearls and the studio forced it to be changed. In fact it led to the character appearing less often in the season after that particular event.

Eowyn Vitrone

I love watching this with you every week! If you have the time, you should really consider multiple episodes. It's so sad every time you end it

JHB

Mosco: "... without Princess Celestia getting involved..." Us: **snort-laugh**

Tristan N Milner

Imagine how much worse it would've gotten if an Orange ring of avarice from outer space found Spike like this.

Athena

The scene where Derpy appears she is also sandwiched in-between two other fan-favorites! At this point in the show they start to become more prevalent in the background, and almost always seen together. The teal pony being Lyra Heartstrings, and the cream pony being Bonbon! They are the fandom girlfriends. They become more of an easter egg throughout the coming seasons, as the writers take notice of how much the fandom loves them.

Tarot-Sovereign

Today's moral? One day your sweet child will become a teenager and it will be a horrible experience for everyone.

Chance

This this ep this yesterday didn't every morning as soon as I that was a diffic he and every at and try to take it out of his mouth. You had you had to physically i would have to on you he so this episod just because you i

Sarah H

So true about kids having to learn they don't always get presents or as many as they've gotten previously. Otherwise, you end up with a Dudley: ''36? But last year, last year I had 37!''

Faroth

In relation to spike and rarity stuff, dragons and unicorns in magical terms are both of the most magical creatures and often dragons are presented as attracted to unicorns, having an offspring called a kirin (or Qilin), mostly shown as a dragon scaled deer with dragon-like face and dragon tail buth furry ended , and on some old myths, unicorns werent jorse-like, but rather deer-like body with a zig zagged single horn and very furry legs with a long tail, so the kirin sharing both creatures aspects means they were... Compatible?

Faroth

13:22 Fans called her derpy, then hasbro censorship make them call her muffin in the merch of the show, but ultimetly, it came out as Ditsy doo aka derpy doo, hasbro couldnt beat the fandom and she was named ditsy in the phone game that is the canon lore drop of the show

Anvildude

We also saw Spike's imagination concept of his 'grown up' self, in the episode with the Diamond Dogs.

danny

fluttershy and pinkie sound so similar bc they have the same VA! rainbow and applejack too

Mindstorm88

As someone else will say later in the show, Spike had a case of Greed Induced Bigness in this episode. The normal development of a dragon is different.

Anzac-A1

17:31 He looks like a dodgy used car salesman

Luís Pacheco

I'm not giving him cake, I'm assaulting him with cake!

Phoenix_mercury

The best gift are either something they like, they've expressed interest in, something they don't necessarily like but are/have expressed curiosity in or(especially they say they don't want anything) something that's useful/specifically practical or decorative, for example one year I got a relative a sun catcher for her window as she wasn't sure what she wanted, when my best friend said he didn't want anything I got him a new dog training pouch as I'd noticed his current one was on the way out in its seams so I knew it was something needed and would be useful for him, my uncle never knows what he wants so... Every year it's Pokémon related stuff or Liverpool FC related stuff

Diesel Marcus

23:13 "I close my eyes and that's Juliet Starling saying that . . . . Then I open my eyes and realize it's Twilight and that's not as good"

SweetCandle

Derpy was a fan nickname that was used in an episode before it was rereleased without the name.

ShadowLightMew

Can't spoil much but this wasn't true maturing for a Dragon, that is all i can really say. Other than that this episode has some references like King Kong to name one

Dusti

HAH 🤠 oh thats a good one twilight 🤣 twilight. get my rope.

RedeemerofDark

I've gotta say the proposed theory that a dragon rapidly ages through his greed to better protect his horde is a brilliant theory for what happens in this episode and answers so much so well and easily and smoothly that I'm gonna treat it as canon now 😄
