I do think the purge played a role in the virus being so effective. Killing off half your species in search of a single trait (strength) can lower genetic diversity a lot which makes a species more vulnerable to viruses

And yet the purge still caused what is known as a bottle neck event in the species. No matter how much they repopulated, the amount of genetic diversity is less than it was before the purge. There isnsomthing called "effective population" in genetics. Basically if you have 2 unrelated people thats a effective populaton of 2..if you have 4 thats 4. But if you have 4 and each couple have 6 kids that is still an effective populaton pf 4. And if one ofnthosekids have kids with someone unrelated that the group of 20 has a effective population of 5.. when populations bottleneck they become very susceptible to viruses and changes to enviroment and even after the visual effect of a low population is gone it still creates the issue. A population woth more initial genetic differences before the scourge could be able to breed among themselves too.

The reason why the Viltrumite struggled against the virus is because of how contagious it was. It didn’t matter the precautions, it didn’t matter the methods; everyone eventually got infected. And we see how quickly it targets the organs and vitals, how rapid the spread is, and how fast it kills. The virus was meant to wipe out the whole civilization in one fell swoop. They couldn’t create a vaccine or cure because they didn’t have the time to develop one.

By the time the virus hit they had billions. We dont know population numbers before the purge. They also practiced some eugenics type bs where only those deemed "strong enough" were left. Valuing one trait above others to the point of basically breeding for it also creates a genetic diversity issue.

Just a few minutes in, genuine question from someone who's studied this kind of thing Mosco, are you sure you *only* have dyslexia? Cause what you described, as well as other things that have happened in other videos that you've attributed to your dyslexia, is very ADHD coded. ADHD is very frequently undiagnosed or misdiagnosed in women, in no small part it has overlap with other neurodivergent conditions such as Dyslexia. (Also it typically presents differently in young girls, so the trademark signs are often missed) It may be possible that some of your struggles are misattributed, and maybe employing some strategies from ADHD folk might be helpful. Of course Im not your psychiatrist, and admittedly my knowledge on dyslexia specifically is lacking. I dont have all the information you do and cant possibly diagnose you. But as someone who went through having undiagnosed autism because all its symptoms got lumped in with my ADHD and depression, and struggled greatly because of it, I just wanted to broach the topic for your consideration. Could be Im totally off the mark, or maybe on reflection you could benefit from swiping some ADHD coping strategies. I don't know, but its something to consider. Alright concerned neurodivergent ramblings over, back to watching the actual reaction! Sorry if Im coming off as weird here!

THIS, plus when your species is essentially immune to being thrown into a sun, a disease is not a selective pressure generally. This is a similar idea to the reason the indigenous people in the Americas were so effectively wiped out by Smallpox. The Europeans have spent centuries with it meaning that those gene lines who weren't resistant were already wiped out. If your gene pool has never had to face disease, they're gonna be wrecked when they have no resistance.
